“Hank? I thought you were going to make me tea?” Perl asked innocently. Hank snarled as Nana struck his thigh with her cane. He turned and placed the mugs before them.
“Anything else? I have work to do.”
“Did you put honey in it?” Perl asked sweetly, wrinkling her nose as she tasted it.
“You don’t like honey in your tea!”
“Don’t shout at me. I want honey.”
“Perl, I swear… Ow. Nana, cut that out!” Hank barked, clutching his kneecap where she had popped him again with her cane. “You’re teaching her this! I don’t like it and I will not tolerate this type of behavior coming from my wife. You’re going to get her bottom warmed if you encourage this, Nana. I’m warning you.”
“What type of behavior, sweetheart? I’m just asking for some help while I finish this up,” Perl pouted. “I thought you loved me.”
“Don’t even start with the Italian guilt. There is nothing that’s so important that you can’t put it down and get your own tea or blankets.” Hank glared at her.
“Really, dear? Are you sure? Because I beg to differ with you. By the way… look what Nana taught me to make. Isn’t it pretty? I’m getting really good at making new things lately, aren’t I?”
She held up a little yellow baby sweater with a smile.
