Nearly jumping out of her skin when his hot breath came next to her ear, she heard him whisper, “You don’t need to pretend with us, sweetheart. You can relax your stomach. Be yourself with us.”

These two men were driving her libido crazy. It had been so long since she had been aroused, let alone touched. The two law enforcers were the first men to touch her in over two years. She hadn’t let anyone get close to her since Frank, and now, she was letting them both touch her at the same time. What was wrong with her? Was she a slut like someone had accused her of being in the past?

Looking around, she saw two dedicated ménage relationships and one budding one. Around here, relationships with multiple men seemed to be becoming the norm. Could she let two men love her? She felt secure with these two men, and they had shown her nothing but gentleness, but her past was coming back to haunt her and that frightened her to the core. Perhaps she should come clean to them, let them decide what to do about her future? Though prison was the only option for her and she knew it. No, she couldn’t go that route.

The problem she was facing right now was the attention these two men were showering upon her, and the sensations that were building up within her had her feeling cherished, loved, for the first time in her life. Would they continue to cherish her in her old age if she stayed? She had to wonder, but right then, she couldn’t think straight. Jared’s fingers were rubbing against her clit through the cotton underwear, driving her toward what she didn’t know. She had never felt the tingling in her cunt before. What was wrong with her?

When she felt Jared’s hand pull the crotch of her panties aside and slip a finger into her wet pussy, she froze. She had to stop him. Pushing her hands against his forearm, she tried to dislodge his hand, but he was stronger than her. Connor’s free arm came and grabbed both her wrists in his large hand and brought them up between her breasts, holding them close to her body.

“We are not going to hurt you, Gina, I thought you understood that,” Connor whispered as Jared’s finger stilled, remaining within her depths. Her eyes lowered in shame and embarrassment. “We have told you before we won’t hurt you. Why are you afraid of us? Are you a virgin?”

Shaking her head, she answered his question silently. Though with the feelings they were generating within her, she might as well be. Frank had never made her have these feelings before. They were making her feel heady and her pussy was throbbing. She actually felt as if she was going to combust there.

Connor caught her attention with his gruff, whispered command. “Look at me, Gina.”

Brown hair shook between the two men as she continued her downward gaze, not really seeing anything in particular. She felt Connor press in closer to her before his breath was right against her ear.

“Look. At. Me. Gina.” The emphasized words were a threat to the frightened woman. She had heard that tone of voice before, right before…

Chapter One

The door to the sheriff’s office slammed open so hard it slammed into the wall with its force, bringing everyone’s focus to the large bear of a man standing in the opening. Lyndee stood slowly to her full height of five three and began to make her way over to the man.

His face was beet red with anger. Various remnants of the morning breakfast rush were stained into the white apron he wore from his chest down to his knees, and perhaps some were permanent markers of his position. Glen Harris was not only the owner of the Polson Diner, he was also the chef. He enjoyed cooking, which was why he spent so much time behind the stove and not socializing with the customers as a lot of restaurant owners did. With his lack of social skills, it was probably best that the public didn’t have a day-to-day interaction with the man.

“Glen, what a pleasure to see you,” Lyndee said with her nicest smile and voice. “What can we do for you this morning?”

As if she hadn’t greeted him at all, he began the short trip from the front door to Connor’s office, pushing Lyndee out of the way. Trey popped up from his chair so quickly it fell back onto the floor with a crash. He would have charged the man if his fiancée hadn’t shook her head at him to stop. They all knew why Glen was there. They all knew that Gina had been upset last night and stormed out of the festivities while the fireworks were still going on. He must be upset that Gina was upset.

“Connor Lawson, you better get your ass out here!” the barrel of a man shouted when he got outside the sheriff’s private office. Connor sauntered to the door, his eyes dark from lack of sleep but red from the beers he had downed the previous night, or rather earlier that morning. After Gina had left Jared and him, he drank a few beers too many. His hair was disheveled as it hadn’t seen the comb when he dressed. Stubble lined his jaw and upper lip.

“What the hell do you want, Glen?” he asked even though he knew the man was upset with him. Perhaps he needed a good belting for what had transpired a little more than nine hours ago.

“Where’s Gina?” Glen asked, barely able to contain his anger, his hands balling up. Trey and a now standing Lawrence were edging toward the man, hoping to defuse the impending brawl.

“I’m sure she’s at home, Glen. There was a misunderstanding last night. She’s probably just upset,” Connor explained, leaning on the door jam.

“She’s gone because of you, you little shit!” the man accused, trying to keep himself still.

Connor’s gray eyes flashed to the hazel eyes of the man before him. “What do you mean, gone?”

Taken aback for a moment, Glen gave the man the once over as if he was looking for a shred of the truth. “She didn’t show up for work this morning. After the morning rush I went over to her place and all her stuff is gone.”

Physical pain seemed to stab at Connor’s chest at Glen’s announcement. He couldn’t believe that she would up and leave without a word to her employer because of what happened between her, him, and Jared. Had they pushed too hard? No. She had been scared, just like that night in the parking lot of the diner, but…

Turning, Connor grabbed a pad and pen and shoved it at Glen. “Give me her address and phone number.” The man wrote what was requested as Connor grabbed his cell phone off the desk and his coat off the chair. Rushing to the door, he snatched the paper from Glen and headed out the door, leaving four stunned people staring after him.

* * * *

Connor slammed his SUV to a halt half on the sidewalk and half in the street as Jared pulled his ’65 Ford Mustang into the driveway of the small cottage Glen had led them to. The street was quiet as the two men emerged from their vehicles, slamming their doors closed simultaneously. Several dogs began to bark in the neighborhood as they strode up to the door.

At that point Connor was beyond caring and he turned the knob on the door, surprised it opened. Stepping in first, he stepped into the small living room, overstuffed furniture sitting around. There were no personal photos on the walls or on the tables. Jared had made his way to the kitchen and found all the food had been left behind.

The two men found the bedroom and stepped in gingerly, as if invading her privacy, although she was no longer there. The high queen-sized bed was made with a purple bedspread upon it and matching pillow shams at the head of the bed. Everything looked as if someone lived there, until Jared opened the closet door. The hangers hung empty from the rail, a forlorn sight. Connor opened up several dresser drawers and found them as empty as what his heart felt like at the moment.

Anger rose within him and he pushed against the bed, slamming the mattress to the other side of the room. As the item slid away from the box spring, two items caught the men’s attention. Connor picked up one, examining it as he opened it while Jared picked up the other item and stared at it in disbelief.

“What the fuck?” Connor exclaimed as he read. “We need to find her!”

Connor was out the door first, and as Jared passed the end table closest to the open door, he noticed the note to the landlord with the set of keys. Grabbing both, he pocketed them, knowing she was going to need them again soon.

Jared followed the angry Connor out to the SUV and slid into the passenger seat as Connor was putting the vehicle into gear. Within seconds, Connor slammed on the brakes and Jared had to brace himself from hitting the dashboard.

“We don’t even know which way she is going!” he spurted out.

Jared, a little more even keeled than his boss, spoke out, “What did you find?”

Connor handed him the paper he had inadvertently crumpled in his hand and Jared perused the item. “Shit,” he whispered.

As his deputy read the paper in disbelief, Connor dialed a number on his cell phone. Waiting for the connection, he glanced at Jared, whom he had become rather close to in recent weeks due to their interest in Gina. They had been having conversations longer than they ever had in the past. They knew every little detail about each other’s lives that they wouldn’t have before Gina. Jared now understood about Angela’s actions and her past, which he hadn’t really understood while the drama with Owen Taylor was going on.

Jared appeared in shock at what he had read. He was now on his smartphone looking up some information on the browser while Connor continued to wait for someone to answer. The call connected. “Hey, Brian. Connor. I have a request for you to be on the lookout for a specific car. I don’t want the woman spooked, but we need to bring her back home before she decides to leave the area.”

The man on the other end of the phone, Brian Hawthorne, was the Area Supervisor for the Montana Highway Patrol. He handled Lake County along with two others. Connor and he went way back to their Academy days. “Your woman?” he asked Connor.

“We’re hoping,” Connor answered vaguely, not wanting to get into all the details with him. “We had an argument last night and she took off. I just want to make sure she is safe.”

“Ok, give me the description of her car and license plate.”

“Ok. It’s a Toyota 4Runner, 1990, faded red with a black passenger door. It needs a muffler,” Connor offered before rattling off the license he had memorized in the past several weeks as he watched her come and go from the diner. After giving a brief description of his woman, Connor bid Brian a quick good-bye before disconnecting the call.

Jared looked over at Connor, confusion covering his chiseled features. “How could she have not told anyone? Do you think Glen knows?”

Throwing the vehicle in gear, Connor pulled a U-turn in the middle of the residential street. “Only one way to find out.”

Pulling up to the single empty parking spot in front of the diner, Connor cut the engine and the two men climbed out. On a mission, the pedestrians on the sidewalk seemed to sense the urgency in Jared and Connor’s statures and moved out of their way. Jared, seeming to take the lead, pushed the glass door to the diner open with a little more force than necessary, drawing the patrons’ gazes from all the tables when the bells tied to the door tinkled loudly. Silverware stopped clinking against the plates, and glasses and mugs were set down with a bit of force as everyone wondered what was going on.

The single waitress stopped pouring coffee to turn and see who had captured the attention of all the occupants of the diner. Connor could have sworn he saw her sneer at them, before she smiled and sashayed over to the overwhelming duo.

Her platinum-blonde hair was pulled back in a ponytail, trailing down her back to her waist, right above her nonexistent bottom. She had more of boyish figure, a bit of hips and drawn-in waist, but in the pink waitress’s uniform, you couldn’t make out much of womanly curves. Her breasts couldn’t have been much more than palm full if even that. Connor had watched the girl grow up and knew what she looked like in street clothes, and there wasn’t much to her, which was why she never caught his attention before.

“What can I get you boys?” she asked with a bit of sass as she came to a stop before them. Leaning in closer, she whispered, “The one you have been falling all over has left. You frightened her away and left me with running this floor myself. I hope you’re happy.”

Yup. It was a sneer. Tanya was not quite twenty-one but she had been after him for several years, insisting she was in love with him. Once he started paying attention to Gina, the young woman had become hostile with him. On more than one occasion he had worn coffee home on his uniform, an accident of course. One morning, he came in and automatically sat in Gina’s section. She had been late for work and Tanya had brought him his usual breakfast of eggs, extra bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. As she set the syrup down, she accidently spilled it on his lap. She tried to help him clean it up by running her cleaning rag across his crotch, pushing down on his cock painfully. He had to walk across the street to the station with a big sticky brownish stain on his crotch along with whatever bits of food had been in the rag. Thankfully he kept a clean uniform in his office closet. He still got ribbings from everyone in the office over that one.

Nerves running high at the moment, Connor wasn’t going to take another bit of grief from Tanya. Nodding at Jared to handle Glen, Connor wrapped his hand around Tanya’s wrist harshly and pulled her out the door, letting the item shut loudly, the hanging bells ringing wildly. Connor shoved the brat against the wall separating the diner and the fabric store to the dismay of many women trying to get into the latter’s door for they had to move around them. Connor leaned down close to Tanya’s left ear as fear finally absorbed itself into her brain. “Listen, brat! I have had enough of you disrespecting me. I have been nothing but nice to you. I have looked the other way when you have been at parties you are too young for. I have taken care of the tickets you have amassed from driving without a license. I didn’t do that because I was interested in you. I did it out of friendship. If you continue to treat me the way you have been, I will not be so generous in the future. Is that understood, Tanya?”
