The first thing I’d like to acknowledge here is my own trajectory around writing a book. The first edition of
Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom
was a kind of forced march—a “do or die” mission to change the language and practice of women’s health. I felt as though I were hiking up a mountain overgrown with brush and strewn with treacherous rocks. And there were no trails. But I was compelled. And I succeeded. Karmic debt paid.
And though that first book was a most painful process, I have always believed that creation doesn’t need to be that way. After all, I know that some women give birth to their babies with orgasmic pleasure. Why not create a book the same way? And I finally did just that! The writing and editing of
Goddesses Never Age
has been a most pleasurable process. Part of that has been simple evolution. We now have the tools and the science that have documented the profound connection between the mind, the emotions, and the body, so my work isn’t being questioned at every turn, requiring me to “prove” what I know repeatedly. And the other part is, of course, my own personal evolution. I am now able to recognize and receive the kind of support and assistance I have always dreamed of—much of which has been there all along! I just needed to let it in. And so with that, I joyfully acknowledge the following individuals.
Nancy Peske, editorial assistant and researcher extraordinaire, whose Midwestern practicality and work ethic have been right up my alley. You have been a Godsend and were instrumental in making this book so much fun to create.
Anne Barthel, my editor at Hay House—you “got it” from the beginning, and all of your suggestions have made a much better book. You made the editorial process pure pleasure.
Patty Gift—for bringing such bracing editorial East Coast rigor to your work, as well as the joys of tango, Paris, and all things pleasurable.
Reid Tracy, Margaret Nielsen, Christy Salinas—and the whole staff at Hay House. I pinch myself that I get to work with such a simpatico and fun group.
Hope Matthews—Intuitive Movement healer extraordinaire. You have borne witness to and catalyzed my personal transformation for many years through your knowledge of both classical Pilates and the impact of emotions on the body. I am profoundly grateful.
Julie Hofheimer—my massage therapist and intuitive healer who has kept my muscles and my spirit supple and tuned for many years and has borne witness to and documented the rebirth of my body.
Ataana Badilli—crystal healer extraordinaire. Your work supporting the energy grid of my life has been a most treasured and beautiful gift.
Bob Cooley and the elite trainers at The Genius of Flexibility Center in Boston. Bob—what a gift you and your work have been in my life. Your generosity, your genius, and your knowledge continue to amaze, delight, and transform me and my body.
Paulina Carr—my girl Friday, who does whatever it takes to keep my company and my life afloat and does it with good humor and willingness.
Janet Lambert—my trusty bookkeeper, who keeps all the finances on the straight and narrow, when she is not skydiving or waterskiing and demonstrating the physical prowess of an ageless goddess!
Judie Harvey—for your editing skills and sense of humor with the e-letter, website, and social media.
Fern Tsao and her daughter Maureen Manetti—I have been so blessed to have you both as the most skilled practitioners of TCM right in my backyard. You practice the medicine of the future—here and now.
Tosha Silver—you arrived in my life at precisely the right moment to remind me of Divine Order and how to use it. The healing of my life and heart have been profound.
Mario Martinez—your work has given me the scientific foundation upon which the message of this book is built. I can’t thank you enough for having the courage to reframe health the way you have and for articulating an entirely new language of actual health and flourishing. You are a gift in my life.
Bob Fritchie—thank you, thank you, thank you for your dedication to Divine Love and for creating a practical method for bringing this to everyone in the world, and for personally being available to me and my family. Thank you also for being such a good friend.
Doris E. Cohen—for coming up with the phrase that became the title for this book. You have been a spiritual midwife and skilled guide through my deepest sorrows and the dark night of the soul. You have fanned the flames of my deepest desires and given me the courage to keep on going. I can’t thank you enough.
Melanie Ericksen —my magical mermaid medicine woman. From the first session I ever had with you, I knew that I had found the real deal. You are a goddess of healing, joy, beauty, high magic, and skill. And I am thrilled to have you and your consort Thor in my life.
Deborah Kern—for your friendship, your mirroring, your Divine presence, your moon in Pisces, all of it.
Regena Thomashauer (aka Mama Gena)—thank you, dear sister, for the courage and cheekiness required to bring the discipline of pleasure and joy into the hearts, minds, and bodies of women throughout the world. May our dance of joy continue forever.
To all the skilled and loyal members of my “assisted living” program here at home. Stephen Meehan, whose skill with flowers and plants is otherworldly. You have created a personal paradise for me that never ceases to amaze me. Mike Meehan for the plowing and shoveling and tree work, cheerfully accomplished at 5
A.M.
Mike Brewer for being a most reliable and cheerful handyman for many years. Carlo Dorio for being the most amazing plumber on planet Earth. To Vern and Mike Cassidy, my
father-son electrical geniuses, for maintaining all the things that keep it “lit up” around here. Charlie Grover for the weekly trips to the recycling center—and also for making sure Diane gets fed and watered. And for that twinkle in your eye that we can always count on. And Barbara McGivaren for housekeeping skill and charm—and for loving Mr. Moon.
For my brothers and my incredible sisters-in-law—John and Annie, Bill and Lori. Your love and support mean the world to me. To my sister, Penny, and her husband, Phil (who calls us his sister-wives). What a pleasure it has been to share so many adventures with you during the writing of this book.
Mom—your physical prowess and adventuresome spirit have blazed this trail from the very beginning. Without you, I would never have developed the backbone to carry me through until now.
Annie and Katie, my beautiful daughters. Watching you both flourish in your adult lives has been such a gift, and so has spending so much time together. Thank you for hanging in there with me despite my eccentricities and occasional fierceness. Plus there is all the falling-down-laughter part. And to Mike Watts, my new son-in-law, a man who is “all in,” handsome,
and
handy. Seriously, how did I get so lucky?
And finally, to Diane Grover—my CEO of Everything, my business partner, my close friend. My sister-in-arms. From the beginning, for decades, you have been there for me and this work—in ways too numerous to list. You are truly the pearl of great price, and I have no idea how I would have done any of this without you. I bow at your feet.
