The twins recovered from their injuries and were on their feet smiling at her. Lillian glared at them and before she knew what happened, Corbin stood in front of her. His eyes were kind and inside she heard his voice telling her to stop, if she didn’t then she would destroy the twins, and that was something he just could not allow. Lillian closed her eyes and relaxed. Corbin took her in his cold embrace and held her, planting kisses all over her face until she burst into laughter. The twins had taken their leave, leaving Corbin and Lillian alone in the cemetery.

Corbin cupped her face in his hands and said “Rage is a part of our nature, in time you learn to control it, and use it to your advantage. Trust me on this, my love.”

“Corbin I give you all of my trust.”

They held onto each other for a bit longer, and then made their way back to the club, hand in hand.

Corbin and Lillian were back in the club and made their way upstairs as was their usual routine. This time it was just the two of them. The triplets were in the process of luring three unsuspecting victims outside and Lillian noticed the look of anger on Corbin’s face. Lillian knew that the vagabonds in cemetery were fair game, but they were never allowed to feed off of the patrons of the club, those were the rules. Then out of nowhere, Lillian watched as the triplets all had their hands covering their ears and dropped to their knees. She looked over at Corbin and saw that he was doing something to them, but she didn’t understand why and she couldn’t hear what he was saying. The triplets slowly dropped their hands to their sides and held their heads down in shame. They knew they had messed up and didn’t make eye contact with Corbin as they made their way to the other side of the club. Corbin looked at Lillian and told her that he blocked her from hearing the scream; he didn’t want her to feel any pain at all. Lillian smiled and kissed Corbin on his cheek as they both took their respectable seats next to each other. They sat in silence but carried on a conversation telepathically as they held hands.

“Corbin, can you tell me the story of how you were brought into darkness?”

“For you, anything.
I was the mortal age of nineteen when I was given the dark gift. My father was wealthy and my mother had passed from an illness. Now mind you in those times a fever could kill you. When she died, my father was so grief stricken that he was like a walking corpse.  He stopped eating and taking care of the cattle so it was left up to me to handle everything. I didn’t mind, I have been doing it since I was old enough to walk. Then my father got into gambling, and one time he made a bet and lost. There was no way it could have been repaid, so he traded me off as payment. The man was nice and took care of me, but I was his servant. He took me places and showed me affection, more than my own father did. Then our village was all buzzing about a stranger that says he is the son of God. My master told me that no good would come of this, and he was right. Two weeks later that man was crucified on a cross for all to see. My master began to fall ill and I knew that he would soon die, but he made sure that I would be taken care of by a friend of his that he trusted. The friend was an odd man; he would only visit at night. I asked why this was and I was told that he was ill and the sunlight hurt his skin. I trusted my master and never asked again. My master died the following morning and his friend took over the household. At night when he did make his presence known, he would glare at me and not say a word. After the evening meal he told me to go to his bed chamber an hour before dawn and I agreed.  I knocked on his door and he told me to enter. I stepped inside and before I knew happened, he had sunk his fangs into my neck and drained me. Then he instructed me to do the same to him. This transfusion of our blood went on for what seemed likes hours but it was only minutes. Once I was transformed, he gave me a crash course and as the sun began to rise, he climbed out of the window and was consumed by fire and turned into ashes. So there I was, a vampire all alone and scared to death. I grabbed a blanket, covered myself and hid under the bed. The next night when I awoke, the fear that I felt had vanished and I felt alive, more alive than I ever had before. I left the house and never looked back. Over the centuries I have found others, but their strength did not match mine in any sense. My maker was the second vampire to walk the earth. I finally found the very first one of our kind, and he became my teacher. He taught me everything that I know. He and I spent two centuries together and I loved him very much. Then one night he told me that he was tired, he told me he had taught me everything I needed to know and that he was going to end his life at dawn. I cried blood tears and begged him to stay. He wrapped his arms around me and like my maker did before, we exchanged our blood over and over. His blood was like liquid fire and I became even more powerful. His ancient blood ran through my veins and I was dizzy. He kissed me on my cheek and left me to go into the sun. I cried so hard that my entire body was in pain. We vampires suffer as no other can, and the emotional pain we feel cannot be measured. I watched as he burst into flames, like my maker before him. For at least a century I stayed hidden, feeding off of rats and cattle. I finally took human victims and fed until I couldn’t feed anymore, and went into a state of hibernation. As I slept I heard the world changing with each passing year. My slumber lasted close to a century and then the hunger took its toll. I fed once again until I looked like a mortal, and then I walked the earth among them, fitting in as a normal young man. I made a few fledglings, but most I had to destroy for one reason or another. Time passed and I found the triplets. They were starved and sick, almost to the point of death but they were strong. I gave them the gift and we lived in happiness, just the four of us. Annabelle told me about the twins, Damien and Dagan. I gave them the dark kiss as well, and then I found Brandon. He was beautiful and very modern. I brought him over so he could teach us the new ways of the world and he did. Those six were my finest creation. Of course we fought but what family doesn’t. Brandon wanted to have his own living quarters and of course I allowed this. He was always the wild child of sorts, but he always followed the rules. He did make a few mistakes every now and again, but the triplets and twins did as well. Of course I had to clean up their messes from time to time, but I loved them, they were my children. Now it seems the freedom I have given Brandon was a mistake, but I knew that he would bring you to me, so I allowed his rebellion. Now that you are here, he is planning a war as we speak, and this is something I also saw. No harm will come to you nor I and we will be the victors in the end. I have talked enough for a night my love. Let us get some rest and tomorrow, we hunt together and I will exchange my blood with yours. You are strong enough now. Let’s go to our chambers my love. Tomorrow is a new day.”

Lillian was in tears and Corbin kissed them away. They walked into the room and Corbin assisted her to her coffin, closed the lid, and once again his voice filled her head until she was asleep.

This time when Lillian awoke she was not as scared, and she even arose before Corbin. She got out of her coffin with ease and went to pick her clothes out for the day. She chose a back cotton dress and a simple pair of sandals. The weather was cold but she had mortal girls wearing less at the club the previous night. She got dressed and she was startled to find Corbin right behind her smiling at her outfit choice. She went to the other room and got dressed as Corbin was looking for his clothing. He had chosen a pair of black linen pants and a white linen shirt as well as sandals. They looked like the picture perfect couple of the immortal world if there ever was one. Once they were both completely dressed Lillian began to make her way downstairs as the usual fashion to join the club patrons but Corbin stopped her. Lillian looked at him with a puzzled look and he just smiled.

“Now my love, tonight is the night when you and I exchange blood. After you drink from me, you will find the urge to feed will become less and less. You really won’t have to feed unless you choose to. My blood is the most powerful and most ancient, and your powers will become even more than you could ever imagine. I have only done this type of exchange once before, and she turned into something dark and evil, her name was Marie. Still to this day no one has laid eyes on her nor have I heard from her, but that is a story for another time. I will warn you now, this will hurt, my blood will make you feel as if you are on fire, but rest assured you will not burn” Corbin pulled Lillian into his embrace. Lillian knew she should be afraid to receive a gift such as this from one so powerful, but she wasn’t. Corbin pulled her hair to the side and the exchange began.

Lillian was lost in the memories just as she was before, but Corbin’s were so strong and so vivid that she actually felt the heat of the fire from his masters going into the sun. She cried out in agony and Corbin pulled away. He guided her head to his neck and she pierced his flesh. The rush of his blood set her on fire and she tried to pull away, but Corbin forced her to feed from him. She moaned in agony as she fed. She had never felt this intense pain in her entire life, mortal and immortal alike. Corbin forced her to drink, and then he fed off her again. The exchange went over again and again until both of their blood was mingled together. They were now bound together for all eternity.

Once the exchange was done, Lillian was weak but her mind was wide awake. She looked over at Corbin and noticed that he was just as weak but he was smiling at her. As her mind was flooded with memories and her blood was on fire, she did her best to relax. Corbin wrapped his arms around her and they both stayed in a demonic embrace until they had their composure once again. They relaxed and walked over towards the widow and noticed the sun was beginning to rise. Lillian
was shocked, she had no idea that the exchange took as long as it did. The exchange of their blood didn’t take nowhere near as long as it did with the triplets or the twins. Corbin explained that what happened with the others was nothing compared to what they did. He told her that they fed off of each other nearly to the point of death, and then replenished. Lillian nodded and she understood completely. She tried her best to relax, but one image kept coming into her mind, it was a woman. This woman had deep blue eyes, jaw length black hair, pale skin and a smile so sinister that it sent chills up her spine! Corbin looked at her and said “The woman you see is Marie. She is very powerful, maybe even more powerful than me. If Brandon’s cry reaches her, then we may be in for trouble. But for now let’s sleep, tomorrow we will begin to gather others and prepare for the war.” Lillian looked into his eyes and once again they went to their coffins for their immortal slumber.

Lillian had troubled dreams that day. They were plagued with war and death. When she was a mortal, all she had to do to stop a bad dream was to close her eyes real tight and she would wake up, safe in her bed. This little trick didn’t work; she had to suffer through it. In the dream, she saw the triplets being ripped apart limb from limb by Marie. She laughed a maniacal laugh as each one scream in agony! Brandon was in the dream, and he was feeding off the twins, draining them until there was nothing left but a bag of bones. Corbin was bleeding out at Marie’s feet, begging her to stop! Lillian herself was nailed to a tree and could not move. All she could do was sit and watch as her new family was being murdered right before her eyes. She was screaming in agony when she was finally awakened by Corbin.

“Oh! Corbin! The nightmare I had. She was killing everyone and we couldn’t stop her” Lillian cried as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

“I know darling, I had the same dream. We will fight them, and we will lose. This is one thing I never saw coming, but the fact that you and I shared the same nightmare tells me this is the future. The time is now and I can sense Marie, I feel her getting closer and closer. I can hear her voice. It is just a whisper now, but Brandon has called her and she has awakened from her slumber. I just don’t understand why she decided to answer him and why now. Over the centuries I have heard others cry out for her assistance, and she replied with setting them ablaze. Perhaps it is the fact that Brandon is calling out for my destruction. She has hated me from the very beginning. I have killed many of her fledglings over the centuries, so she has had hatred for me, and as I have for her. One thing I didn’t tell you was that she was made the same time I was. The reason for that was because my master and I didn’t know that she survived the exchange of the blood. She screamed in agony and fell into a deep sleep. We buried her in his family tomb. As I told you what I had done after, Marie awoke and went insane. No one knows how long she was locked in that tomb, and when she was let out, she fed off of every human that she saw, men, women, and the purest blood of them all, infants. She has no soul, no rhyme or reason other than to kill and feed off of mortal and immortal alike. She remembered my face as she was carried into the tomb. I have never seen her face to face but have seen glimpses of her in the minds of other vampires, and in the blood of the ones I have fed from. She is cruel Lillian, the cruelest and to be honest no one can blame her. I knew that she would find me one day. Don’t be afraid, the only harm that will ever come to you is watching our demise. Don’t you see? In my visions I killed her, I sacrificed myself to save you! Marie is evil, but a woman of her word. Let’s find the others and get ready, our time is over, she is here as we speak. I sense her and I hear Brandon and the others. Lillian we have to find the others right now!”
