Or maybe it had more to do with the fact that it was Alex, and less to do with how she felt about her body. He loved her, and had proven it with his words and most of his actions over the last eight months.

"The buffer won't be you. I don't want you near him." Alex rubbed his erection against her bottom. "Anything else before I get to make you scream my name again?"

"Nothing that we need to talk about tonight, but tomorrow, I get an hour of your time. I'm your PA, and there are a lot of things that we need to discuss relating to the company and such." She stretched her hands up and cupped the post nearest her, settling on her knees and elbows. "That's all."

Alex groaned at the sight of her body as the sheets fell away. "Good. You can be my PA tomorrow. Tonight I want my woman." He rolled over her and moved up behind her, pressing himself deep into her before stretching out over her back. His fingers wrapped around hers as he pressed in farther and tucked his face into the side of her neck.

"Fuck me, then," she whispered roughly. She moved her derrière against him and panted deliriously, needing Alex to satisfy her again. “Fuck me, hard. Please, Alex?”

The begging turned Alex hard. He sat back, and watched her from behind as she begged and wiggled her butt. He slid his chest over her ass as his hand reached for her knees and spread them further apart.

Jamie arched her back for more exposure as Alex position his hips and slid inside and out of her. He groaned as her tight, wet tunnel surrounded his cock. He thrust in and out of her, causing her to cry out as he grew harder and forced himself further into her.

Every part of Jamie’s body was in motion. Her breasts swung back and forth as her hands gripped the poster of the bed, her arms trembling with desire and exhaustion. She held on tightly as Alex rammed against her again and again. Her heels lifted to press into his strong glutes, so only her knees were on the mattress.

Alex’s hands spread across her ass and hips. “Fuck, I love your rock-hard ass,” he huffed as he guided her back and forth against his shaft.

Jamie couldn’t stop herself when her orgasm came. There was no pre-warning. She cried out as millions of sensational explosions erupted inside of her. She swore she had never had an orgasm that intense. Her body tightened and trembled over and over.

Alex increased his movement as she came and he erupted inside her, crying out loudly as he orgasmed. His motions slowed as he continued to press into her, their bodies covered in sweat. He finally withdrew, and Jamie moaned as the feeling of him inside of her left her feeling momentarily empty.

She collapsed onto the bed as he dropped beside her.

“I’m never fucking let you go,” he mumbled, half laughing as he wrapped his arm over her shoulders. “You’re beyond amazing.”

She couldn't think of a better way to fall asleep than wrapped around the man who held her heart, her body beyond exhausted and her desire for a life with him and no one else.

"I love you. You're mine," she whispered as she started to doze off.

"Only yours, Jamie. Only yours."

Chapter 5

Alex was gone when she got up the next morning, and with the thermometer outside reading twenty-three, there was no need in trying to take a jog. She would most likely freeze in place. The only good thing about that was the idea of just how he would go about trying to warm her back up. She hit the gym beside the apartment and enjoyed running on the treadmill in tights and a sports bra. Her body ached from last night, but it wasn’t entirely unpleasant. She showered and dressed, taking a bowl of food down for Jake.

Mark wasn't at the apartment when she stopped by before heading into the office, which could only mean one of two things: He either grabbed a ride with Alex, or called a cab. They would have to get him a rental car until all his stuff got delivered. She made a mental note to ask him why he hadn’t driven his old truck on the trip. She let Jake out, and brought him and the now-empty bowl of dog food back to the house.

At the office, she grabbed a cup of oatmeal from the cafeteria downstairs, and prepared for a long day. Between helping Alex prepare for their tax filings, getting Mark settled, doing her own job, and trying to work through Nicholas' desires for the additional governmental audit, it was going to be ugly. She dug her heels in as she rode the elevator. Part of her dreaded the day and the other part of her couldn’t wait to get started, check things off her list, and organize. It was days like this that powered her like an energizer bunny.

Gina wasn't at her desk as Jamie walked through the ornate lobby of their offices, which was a little unusual. The woman rarely got up to even go to the bathroom. Alex's door was shut, and she could hear voices behind the closed door, but couldn't make out who he was talking to.

She could catch him a little later in the morning. Mark was her first priority.

Walking into her office, she stopped short, a little surprised to see Mark already bent over a stack of papers on the table. Paul was at his desk in the far corner of the office, typing away.

"Morning, guys." Jamie smiled and walked to her desk, dropping her stuff and turning to realize they both had earphones in. She spoke louder the next time and almost enjoyed them frantically tugging at the wires in their ears. "Morning, guys!"

"Morning." Mark stood and smiled. "You're a late bloomer in the mornings, I see."

Paul chuckled. "This is actually early. She's usually at least another hour from being here on a good day."

"Easy, freshman. I used to come in before Mr. Reid. My morning started before five. I have a dog I need to feed and walk. Plus, I take a lot of my work home with me now." She ignored the smirk on Mark’s face, figuring if he made a dirty comment, she would kill him with a warning look. She moved around to the other side of her desk and sat down. "Everything going okay?"

"Yeah, I think so. I wanted to show you a few more things, but I'll wait until you've had your breakfast." Mark stretched and nodded toward Paul. "Your whiz kid over here already looked through it and said we needed to check into a new login ID that was added to some of the accounts."

Jamie's eyebrow lifted. "A new ID was added as an authorized user for the accounts?"

Paul spun around in his chair and nodded. "Yep. Looks like whoever it is has the same access to certain accounts that you and Gina have."

"That's impossible." Jamie got up, forgoing her breakfast due to her stomach tightening in worry. "Let me look at it now. Unless Alex hasn't told me something, there’s no one but me and Gina who should be listed on all of the purchasing accounts.” She was almost positive it should only be them.

"Well, there is. Let's figure out who it is, and maybe we can better understand some of these odd reconciling items on the bank accounts." Mark sat back down and pulled out three packages, handing all of them to Jamie as she stood beside him.

"JPK134. Who the heck has that user ID?" She tilted her head and flipped through a few more pages. There weren't but a handful of charges, but even still... there shouldn't have been any.

"No clue. Let's talk to Barton down in IT." Paul moved up beside her and scanned his finger down the paper, stopping at a few thirty-dollar charges. "Why would we have a grocery store on our expenditures? Did you guys throw a big Christmas party and cater it yourself? If so, why wasn't I invited?"

Jamie gave him a sideways glance. "Yeah, Alex would let us do that. Please."

Paul laughed. “Who knows? I got an iPad Air for Christmas from him and a Mac Notebook. I sure as hell ain’t complaining.”

Jamie smiled, too distracted with the stacks of paper in front of her to laugh at Paul’s appreciation for Alex’s Christmas spirit.

"Wow." Mark leaned back in his chair. "It honestly looks like we've caught someone in the middle of a criminal act. I'll be interested to see who it is."

"Me too." Jamie rubbed her fingers over her lips. "Alright, well, you guys keep doing what you're doing. I need to talk to Alex. I don't want to dig into something that he already knows about. It would be a waste of our time."

"Agreed," the guys responded in tandem.

Jamie walked back to her desk and took a quick bite of her oatmeal before making her way to see Gina. The woman still wasn't there, but a middle-aged business man was.

"Morning, sir." Jamie moved around the desk.

"About time. I've been standing here for fifteen minutes." His brow pulled tight.

"I'm sorry about that. I'm not sure where Mr. Reid's secretary is, but I'm happy to help you." Jamie kept her attention on the man, and forced the pleasant smile she was used to giving onto her face.

"Oh. You're not his secretary?"

"No, sir. What can I do to help you?" She opened the appointment book on Gina's desk and picked up a pen. Whereas Alex made the poor Gina put his appointments on an electronic calendar, she was far too old-school to not have a physical book to write everything down in.

"I have an appointment with him right now." The man’s tone was a little better, but not much.

Jamie glanced down and scanned the page. "Mr. Canning?"

"That's me."

"Have a seat and I'll let him know that you're here." Jamie gave the man the last smile she had in her for him and finished scanning the book. Annette's name was listed just after lunch, which was more than a surprise.

That woman was one of Alex's many exes, and had tried to pin a false pregnancy the year before on him. They hadn't found out why she’d done it, but Jamie reasoned that it was a last-ditch effort to get him back. It hadn't worked in the end, but the distance it had put between her and Alex was more than enough to be upset about.

She ignored the sickening feeling that rolled around in her stomach and walked to Alex's office, knocking softly and poking her head in to find him and Gina in a heated discussion.

"Hey, guys. Sorry to interrupt, but Mr. Canning is out here for his nine-thirty meeting with you, Alex."

"Thanks. Send him in." Alex glanced over at Gina. "We'll talk more later. I'm not done with this."

She shrugged. "Fine, but my words aren't going to change."

"Not good enough for me, Gina." He moved back to his desk just before his eyes met Jamie's. "Morning, Jam—Ms. Connors."

"Morning, Mr. Reid." She moved back as Gina walked out, the other woman not saying anything. From the looks of things, she was quite pissed. "Everything okay?"

"Nope. Send Mr. Canning in. We'll talk about the rest of this stuff later." Alex turned and started to type on his keyboard, effectively shutting down the conversation.

It wasn't a good time to bring up the bank reconciliations, from what she could tell. She was his right hand. She would just dig into it, and if nothing came of it, then good. There was no reason to bother him with it anyway. "Okay." She turned and half expected Gina to be back at her desk, doing her job, but she wasn't. The tension between her and Alex wasn't good. She motioned to the gentleman sitting by the window in the waiting room. "Right this way, Mr. Canning."

"Perfect. Thank you." He got up, and Jamie ushered him in.

After making sure everything else was fine, she walked the long way back to her office to grab the files that had the new user ID on them. The guys were back to working with their earbuds in, which was almost too cute. Jamie grabbed her coat and buttoned it up, picked up the files, and walked to the elevator.

A pretty blond with a pixie cut and vibrant green eyes was getting off as Jamie got on.

"Oh sorry." Jamie moved back and held the door.

"No problem." The girl looked a little lost, but Gina could redirect her. Jamie had to get something done or she'd feel like she did the night before... useless. With so many things piling up on her to-do list, she needed to stay focused and not let little things, like Annette coming to see Alex later that day, bother her. He was hers, and he’d made that more than clear last night.

Alone in the elevator, she spoke quietly to herself. "By the end of the week, all of your stuff will be in his place. Stop worrying all the damn time. He isn't Stephen." She walked out of the elevator bank and pushed the doors to the front door open as the wind whipped around her. Her ex-boyfriend, Stephen, who was now her brother-in-law, had only been interested in one thing... sex.

Not that she didn’t like sex. Just not with Stephen. Yuck.

She pushed away the thought of having been with him too many times for their current relationship to be healthy. Knowing that he was with her sister, Christine, now left her stomach soured. The man had very little in the way of human decency. The hope was that Christine would leave him and find someone who made her a better person, not let her stew in her selfishness, as Jamie's mom had allowed their whole lives.

"Not just stew in it, but she fostered it." Jamie shuddered and picked up her walk to a jog. The IT building was a few buildings down, and didn't belong to Alex. They were a third-party vendor that provided services for small and large investment companies.

Jamie walked into the tiny lobby and was greeted by a nice man in a bright green shirt and striped pants. A smile tugged at her mouth as he spoke rapidly and adjusted his glasses a million times.

"I need to see Barton, if he's free. I'm Alex Reid's PA." Jamie slipped her hands back into her jacket pockets, and held the file tightly under her arm as she tried to not think about just how freaking cold it was outside. Her teeth weren't chattering as badly by the time Barton poked his head out of the back.

"Hey. I'm free for about ten minutes. Will that work?”

“That’s all I need.” She smiled.

“Then come on back and let's talk." He smiled and opened the door wider.

Jamie walked around and slipped into the back with him, the place a sea of cubicles. Everyone was dressed in business casual. She let Barton take her through the normal pleasantries before asking about the fellow out front.

He chuckled and pulled out a seat by his desk, nodding for her to sit down. "Chuck? He's a little eccentric, but we love the guy."
