“Something like that,” Alexander replied with a half smile.

“Not really.  But it’s nice… right now.”

“Of course it is.  But it grows old fast.”

“You’re so rich,” Amanda said, “why not… just stop?”

“It’s not always about money.  There are millions of people who rely on me.”

“Millions and one,” Amanda said and pointed to herself.

“I wanted to show you how beautiful the world is, your world.  I wanted to show you how open you can be when you try.”

“I want to be in your world.”

“You do now,” Alexander said.  “But you won’t forever.”

“So what do I do?  Fly home and waitress?”

“You fly home and do whatever you want,” Alexander replied.  “You’re free, Mandy, in ways you don’t even realize.  You can do anything, and be anything.  You’re beautiful and free.”

“What about you?” Amanda asked.  “You’re powerful, rich… you can do anything you want… anyone you want…”

“I don’t think about anyone,” Alexander said.  “I think about my sweet Mandy.  Now, why don’t you get another shower and freshen up.  Your plane is waiting.”

Alexander stood from the bed and started to tie his tie again.  There were many thoughts and feelings rolling through Amanda’s body and she didn’t move an inch, watching Alexander and how he moved.  Even as he stared in the mirror and she watched his reflection, she couldn’t pick up a hint of anything besides the sexy, stone faced billionaire she had the privilege of sharing a bed with.  Twice.

He was an expert at everything he did… from business to the bedroom.

When Alexander turned around, Amanda sat up and jumped from the bed.  She walked to him, naked, and pressed her body against his.  She rested her head on his chest and took deep breaths, inhaling his smell.  To her surprise, she felt Alexander’s arm move around her and tighten into a grip that was much more than sex or lust.

Amanda smiled and when Alexander broke his lock, she walked to the bedroom door.  She looked over her shoulder and smiled.

“I’ll see you when I get out,” she said.

“Don’t worry,” Alexander said, “I’m always watching…”

Amanda knew as she turned back to walk down the hall to the bathroom that when she came out of the bathroom, he wouldn’t be there.

She took a long shower, enjoying the smells of the soaps and shampoo, looking out the shower stall to the large window in the bathroom, well aware that wherever Alexander was, he was watching her on the cameras in the bathroom.

When she finished, Amanda got herself dressed and stood at the window for a minute, thinking.  It was really the first time she got a chance to think since standing outside the restaurant, waiting for Alexander to show up.

Thinking led her to questions, but without answers, questions were useless.

Amanda left the bathroom, checked the bedroom to see it one last time – and to confirm that Alexander Porter had left.  The cell phone was gone too, leaving Amanda with nothing else to do but leave the cabin.  She opened the door and saw the same driver standing at the same car.  He nodded, tipped his hat, and rushed to the porch to help Amanda to the car.  The outside air hit her with a little chill but not as strong as it appeared looking out the windows.

“Enjoy your evening?” the driver asked.

Amanda looked at him and didn’t reply.

She smiled.

That said it all.

As the vehicle started to move, Amanda strained herself in any way possible to see the cabin.  She managed well, until the driver took a sharp turn that took the view away.

It bothered Amanda that the view was gone, but worse yet, she wondered if the view would be gone forever.

That thought made her eyes well with tears.

“There’s no lines in this steak.”

“What do you want girlfriend?”

“Emilio, there’s no lines in this steak.  The man wants lines.  Grilling lines.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?”

Emilio threw a dirty towel over his shoulder.  He pointed to the grill and said, “I got a dozen steaks cooking, three workers that don’t know their thumbs from their ears, and you’re going to hound me on a fucking steak?”

“It’s not me, it’s the customer.”

“Lines,” Emilio growled as he grabbed the plate.

With a quick throw, Emilio tossed the steak back to the grill and threw the plate towards the counter.  It hit, slid forward, bounced off something, and turned over, spilling juice all over the counter.

“Damn,” Emilio said.

He snapped his fingers at one of the other cooks and had them clean up the small mess.

When he turned around, Amanda blinked her eyes and sighed.

Back at the restaurant.

As expected.

So far she had two overcooked burgers, one overcooked steak, and a piece of undercooked chicken that cost her a tip.  Oh, and now a steak with no lines.

It wasn’t even eight in the evening yet and she already saw herself walking out the back door again.  And never coming back.  However,  it was her life, right now, her reality.  People didn’t go on vacation and come home to never work again, right?

So why would a couple nights with Alexander Porter be any different.

Plus… Amanda had her own intentions in mind…

“There’s your steak back,” Emilio said sliding the plate to Amanda.  “With lines.”

“Thanks Emilio,” Amanda said.

“Now shake your sweet ass out of my kitchen.”

Amanda took it in stride and walked the steak back to the table.  The man seated at the table wore a suit but looked nothing like Alexander Porter.  He was fat, balding, and had terrible wrinkles everywhere on his face.  He was probably in his forties but looked sixty.

“There you go,” Amanda said, “the chef took good care of it for you.”

“Thank you, love,” the man said.

He smiled and winked.

Amanda waited until she walked away to scoff.

Just because someone had money and wore a suit didn’t mean shit to Amanda anymore.  She dared anyone to top Alexander Porter.

Just try.

Amanda had to face Barbara tonight too, early in the evening but she quickly disappeared.   She always took the time to scold Amanda for her thoughtlessness and carelessness the night she bailed on the restaurant.  Amanda let it roll off her shoulders because the first thing she did when she got back home was call Charlie and explain there had been an emergency and she had to leave.

After taking a drink order for a new table, Amanda walked to the bar to find Jacqui awaiting her arrival, holding a piece of paper.  It was an old receipt ripped in two.

“I have a drink order for you,” Amanda said.

“Fuck the drinks, you need to hear this.”

“What’s wrong?”

“This paper has something on it you’ll enjoy.”

“Oh?”

Jacqui raised an eyebrow and then pointed.  Amanda turned and saw that Jacqui was pointing at the empty table in the back corner.  The table that had started it all.  Alexander’s table.  The table that hadn’t been filled by the right man in weeks now.

From the first night Amanda came back to work, she wished for that table to be full again.  She wanted to know what it would be like.  What it would feel like.  She wanted to bring the fantasy to life again.

There was a small red card on the table, indicating it had been reserved.

Trying not to get her hopes up, Amanda turned back to the Jacqui, wishing she could hide her smile.

Jacqui just nodded.  “He’s coming back.  Tonight.”

“Business?” Amanda asked.

“I doubt it,” Jacqui said.

“Let me see.”  Amanda reached for the piece of paper that had the reservation handwritten on it but Jacqui pulled away.

“I need to warn you first,” Jacqui said.  “You’ll get to stare, but there’s more to it…”

“What are you saying?”

“He’s bringing a date.”

Amanda’s face flushed and her smile fell.  Along with that came a momentary second where she swore her heart stopped and she felt she could collapse.

But that was life, right?

That’s how it went.

Alexander Porter promised her nothing but pleasure and to crack her shell, both of which he did very well.  Amanda knew it was naïve to think that he hadn’t had other women in his limo, or plane, or cabin before.  Hell, who knows how many women he had enjoyed since Amanda left.

But at the restaurant?

That would be a new low… or worse yet, a sign.

Maybe it was Alexander telling her just how things would be.

No matter what, even if Amanda had to serve the billionaire and his date, she could at least look into the eyes of the woman he was with and know that she could read her eyes… she would know all the wild things she and Alexander did.

That much at least made Amanda smile.

“How do you know it’s a date?” Amanda asked.

“I just get these feelings.  Sort of seems serious too.”

“Why’s that?”

Jacqui put the paper on the bar and shoved it towards Amanda.  “I think he has a girlfriend…”

Amanda looked down and gasped for air.

She read the paper and had to put her hands on the bar to hold herself up from collapsing.

Alexander Porter was going to be on a date tonight, yes.

His guest?

sweet Mandy
