Chapter One

“Cadence
Nicolle Farris...”

She
could already hear the sound of Dean Presley calling her name as he handed out
the degrees at the commencement ceremony. It still seemed unreal that her four
years of college were finally over. Starting in less than a month, she and her
friends would all go their separate directions into a new world.

Tonight was the final hurrah, the last time
they would sit around a table sharing beers and pizza. Already she heard the
sound of Julie Morris’ heels clicking as she came up the hall toward Cadence’s room.
The young woman had come to school a little over eighteen months ago, a
transfer from some small college whose name she forgot. Julie managed to insert
herself into the tight group of friends after only a few days.

She
gave her reflection a quick glance in the mirror. It was the first time in over
a year she’d actually headed out in anything other than a ponytail and a tee
shirt. Tonight Cadence let her dark hair cascade across her shoulders, covering
the thin black straps of her tank top.

She’d even taken the time to put on makeup.
The only thing left to do was dig through one of the boxes piled on the bed for
her favorite pair of knee high boots. Her roommate Kelly helped her pack
everything earlier, and Cadence never thought to leave the brown leather boots
out where she might get to them.

She’d
thought perhaps they might be with her karate uniform and sweat pants, wrapped
with care so not to get scratched.

“Candy,
you look amazing girl!” Julie said after letting out a shrill wolf whistle from
the doorway. “They are going to eat you up under that big hunter’s moon tonight!”

Cadence
did an exaggerated spin as though she were some high dollar runway model before
giving her friend a wide, toothy smile. To hear Julie explain it, all hot guys
were wolves in human skin waiting to grunt their way to a mind-boggling orgasm
under the full moon, and she was the alpha bitch ready to screw them into
oblivion.

However, Julie was more of an
omega in every aspect except sex.

Cadence doubted the girl had opened a book or
studied for a single test the entire time she’d been in college. Her grades were
proof enough of that idea.

“So are
you ready or not?” Julie asked as she walked over to check her lipstick in the
mirror. “Kelly called and said the place was wall-to-wall hunks.”

Hooligan’s
Tavern was a short walk from the dorms, and a warm breeze made it a perfect
walk. The bright moon shined down on them as the pair of woman walked arm and
arm along the nearly empty sidewalk, meeting only the occasional fellow college
students in their journey between the usual haunts and the residence hall. Approaching
the bar, the sounds of laughter and music greeted them. Julie had been right:

the place was the focal point of partying for
the evening.

The
small building was packed, and the crowd spilled out into the sidewalk as
Cadence and Julie moved between various groups, weaving in and out of clusters
of students talking and dancing to the rock beat that drifted through the front
doors.

Making her way past the bar, Cadence
smiled and waved to Angelo Mullein who owned and operated the place for the
past ten years after inheriting it from his father.

He pointed toward the far corner of the room,
and following his guide she saw that the table in the corner held her usual
group of friends.

“It is
about time,” Claire said as she handed her a cold bottle of beer and a plate
for the pizza they had already half devoured.

“I thought perhaps you had decided to bail on us,” the short blond said
as she squirmed in her seat to the beat of the music.

Cadence
had met Claire, who was majoring in
forensics,
two
years ago the two had been placed in the same study group.

The two women became instant friends.

She had even spent a few weeks that past
summer with Claire and her parents at the beach house they owned on the coast
of South Carolina.

“So
what did I miss?” Cadence asked as she took a large bite of cheese and
crust.

Not that she expected to miss
anything to exciting.

“You
missed an awesome fight between two jocks,” said Brad Drain, a junior majoring
in business who had the biggest crush on Claire. He motioned one of the
waitresses for another round of beers.

“Not a lot of blood, but they did both get in a good shot or two before
Angelo threw them out,” he continued as Kelly Wright rolled her eyes from
across the table.

Kelly was
the epitome of a cliché sorority girl, all boobs and no brains.

She had all the right curves and was not
afraid to put it all on display.

Despite
that, Cadence sort of liked the girl, and often accompanied both her and Julie
when they went shopping.

Unfortunately,
she had to be a bit more cautious in her spending because, unlike the other two
women, she could not just pull out daddy’s credit card to pay the bill.

“Hunk
alert!” Julie squealed as she looked past Cadence toward the dance floor, her
eyes bright as she ran her tongue along her bottom lip, while Kelly adjusted
her top to provide a generous view of cleavage.

“Oh, and look at what he’s bringing with him!”

Even
Brad stared past her with a look of awe.

Cadence turned slowly to glance over her shoulder at the one who had
caught the attention of everyone at the table, only to feel her mouth go dry.
Eight drop dead gorgeous men strolled across the floor toward them. Each looked
the part of the perfect co-ed’s wet dream. The one at the front stood a good
six and a half feet tall with sandy blond hair and bulging muscles, swoon
worthy lips and piercing blue eyes that made a woman feel she was wearing far
too many clothes.

The man
striding only a step behind was nearly the same height. Dressed in a pair of
boot cut jeans and a black short-sleeved tee shirt that allowed her to see
tribal tattoos circling both biceps, he was breathtaking and forbidding all
rolled into one. From his dark hair hanging about his broad shoulders to the
scuffs on the toes of his biker boots, he screamed sex.

His lips turned in the slightest of a cocky
grin as he stopped at the table and looked down intently into Cadence’s stunned
face.

“Well
what do we have here? An entire table of delights and a…” his gaze wandered to
Brad, who now shifted about nervously. “Are you supposed to be the protector of
these lovelies?”

“If
need be,” Brad said, his voice cracking with each word.

“Well then,”
the man said, grabbing a chair from a nearby table and pulling it up beside
Cadence so he could straddle the seat and lean against the back. “Let’s see if
you’ve got balls enough to drink like the hero you want to be.”

The
other large man, which seemed to lead this group, pulled yet another chair from
nearby, dumping its occupant to the floor. With a silent smile and a slow once
over, he seated himself to Cadence’s other side. She was sandwiched between the
two so tight, her hips rubbed against theirs with even the slightest
movement.

“Now,
you don’t mind if we all join you?” he asked, his voice a seduction that washed
over her like a silken embrace.

Not
waiting for an answer, the entire group roused others from nearby and slid a
second table against theirs to accommodate everyone.

Motioning to a passing waitress for a round
of drinks, the male with the enchanting voice turned his attentions back to
Cadence, slowly running his tongue along his lower lip before smiling.

“I am
Anton, and this is Nigel. You are?”

Obviously
unable to tolerate the fact both men were paying attention to someone other
than her, Kelly cleared her throat and answered before Cadence could gather her
thoughts.

“That’s
Cadence but we call her Candy. You
know,
all sweet but
empty calories. I’m Kelly, by the way, and I promise to fill your appetite,” she
purred, leaning forward to ensure everyone received a good view of her
endowments.
