CHAPTER 9

SUBSTANCES OF HEAVEN

We are filled with the substance of heaven in the measure we submit to the knowledge of Christ. On the Day of Pentecost in Acts, the Holy Spirit was described as a mighty rushing wind. We know the event was heavenly because afterwards unexplainable miracles happened.

One sign of heaven invading earth is the manifestation of the prophetic realm. God created man as His voice in the world and to establish His kingdom, but without knowing Christ, even experiences from heaven are empty and with no substance.

Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?

Then I will declare to them,
I never knew you;
go away from me, you evildoers.

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man that built his house on rock.

The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock.

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!

Matthew 7:21–27 NRSV

Jesus says, in essence,
knowing me
is more than prophesying and casting out demons. The word knowing is the same word used to describe a man and woman intimately loving one another. Women can be married to wealthy men with privileges to purchase expense gifts without being intimate with their husband. That describes a marriage without substance, selfish and irresponsible.
Responsibility demands love and intimacy in order to understand relationship.

Moses made a remarkable statement, which illustrates he understood “knowing” God was much more than miracles, signs and wonders.

Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You [progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, perceiving and recognizing and understanding more strongly and clearly] and that I may find favor in Your sight.

And [Lord, do] consider that this nation is Your people.

Exodus 33:13 AMP

In other words, Moses saw the miracles but he wanted to “know” what made God, God. He knew His power and awesomeness, but did not understand the source or substance of such amazing love that flowed from the heart of the Father.

The substance we use to feed our inner abode will determine how it will survive the rough seasons.

The story below describes two methods used in building such a house.

I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them.

That one is like a man building a house,
who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock
; when a flood arose, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built.

But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against it, immediately it fell, and great was the ruin of that house.

Luke 6:47–49 NRSV

Tribulations demonstrates ones commitment to Christ and the depth of the foundations.
We will encounter humiliation, suffering, hardships and most certainly discomfort.

However, unless we are willing to trust the Holy Ghost in our renovations, our structure will not endure.

The rock of course is Jesus Christ.
The substance is formed from our experiences with the Holy Spirit.

His Word is the very substance that impregnates our hearts and minds. The very essence of Christ is capable of penetrating our very cells; hence His substance in our souls migrates into our bodies resulting in divine health.

We define substance as that which underlies all outward manifestations.
Therefore, the invisible foundation that constructs our beliefs is revealed by our actions.

In other words, substance is the matter or material that constructs a belief system. We have defined
belief system as the structure of thoughts, which may or may not be true, which produces behaviors in accordance with the information.

Like the Wright Brothers who believed man could fly. The substance was the physical airplane constructed from their imaginations or invisible realm of thoughts.

The physical world was designed from the invisible world.

Faith convinces us that God created the world through his word. This
means what can be seen was made by something that could not be seen.

Hebrews 11:3 GW

In order to examine the transformation of substance into physical material in greater detail, let us imagine what may have happened to the Wright brothers. Many people probably dreamed of flying, but the Wright brothers were the first to make their dreams physical.

Most history books omit the fact their father was a Bishop and leader in the United Brethren in Christ Church. The young men were taught Christian principles at an early age.

Their dreams became a belief that man could fly. Their belief was mixed with faith, which released the understanding to accomplish what others could not do.

Faith in the hearts of these men became knowledge in their souls. Nevertheless, it was not until the substance of faith became a tangible presence were they able to build a working model.

One important point to see in this illustration is the invisible substance became a blueprint for the material world.
The invisible becomes visible as faith becomes tangible. Many creative people say, “if I can see it in my mind, I can produce it in the natural world.”

Many people believe they will get sick each year during the flu season. This produces a harmful substance that manifests as infection and disease, with the material results of illness.

The substance of our belief is founded on either the rock or the sand.

One day I was praying for a woman who had cancer. Before I could touch the person, the Holy Spirit said, “wait.” I stepped back and just listened. All of a sudden, I sensed something coming into my body that felt like electricity. The Holy Spirit said,
“Release this sensation into the person now.”
When I touched the person a feeling like lightning, shot through my body into hers. She fell onto the floor. While she lay there, I saw the Holy Spirit ministering to her.

I received a call the following month from the woman’s pastor, who said she was totally delivered from cancer.
The substance of God passed through my body and dissolved the cancer.
This is an example of the substance of faith manifesting in a miracle. PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME.

The more we uncover the truth about believing, the better we will understand our substance. Most of the thoughts and ideas in our minds originate from physical and spiritual encounters.

Are you beginning to see the relationship between your life and your beliefs? In order to change the way we believe we must accept the substance of heaven in our spirit not our mind.

• SUBSTANCE EQUALS WEALTH

Most of us are taught in order to obtain material wealth we need should be trained for a professional career in business administration, medicine, engineering, computer sciences and such. We know by the scriptures the visible is created from the invisible.

So why is it we spend more time pursuing the visible rather than the invisible?

Substance may also be used to describe a person’s wealth or material possessions. One of the many remarkable scriptures in the Bible is found in below.

As he was walking along the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew. They were throwing a net into the sea because they were fishermen.

Jesus said to them, Come, follow me! I will teach you how to catch people instead of fish.

They
immediately left their nets and followed him.

As Jesus went on, he saw two other brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee preparing their nets to go fishing.

He called them, and they
immediately left the boat and their father and followed Jesus.

Matthew 4:18–22 GW

Those who follow Jesus are blessed, but those who leave everything are true disciples.

Many times people will follow Jesus after they have lost everything and have nothing left to lose, but those four brothers left their jobs, family and security to follow Jesus.

In reality, they left their visible substance for a belief outside the natural world. Their belief in Jesus as the Christ caused them to leave a tangible resource for a heavenly supply.

Education, knowledge and the pursuit of your passion are vital in the souls understanding of dominion. The mind is an extraordinary instrument designed to construct and implement systems beneficial to the kingdom of God.

However, the mind in its unconverted birth condition will not desire the things of God. The systems of this world are corrupted from the mentality of the first Adam, which is the knowledge of good and evil.

If we spent more time alone with the Holy Spirit, meditating on the words of Jesus, our capacity to believe would unite with our spirits and produce dramatic results.

One outcome would be the joining of our spirits and souls to form believe and faith to mean the same. The power in this connection is the consciousness we are discussing.

Throughout our entire discussion, continue to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal more revelation into your spirit. That exercise will train your spirit to become the authority in your life. You will be amazed at how quickly your surroundings will change.

CHAPTER 10

TRAINING THE SOUL WITH THE SPIRIT

Most of us have heard the messages of faith over the years. They are very essential and significant for anyone who follows Christ. Perhaps one of the most quoted scriptures regarding faith is found in Hebrews 11:1 (several different translations following).

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1 NKJV

Now faith is a well-grounded assurance of that for which we hope, and a conviction of the reality of things, which we do not see.

Hebrews 11:1 WEY

Faith assures us of things we expect and convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see.

Hebrews 11:1 GW

One resounding truth, which emanates from these scriptures, is the inseparable connection between the invisible and visible.
Faith is the certainty conceived by the spirit that makes the soul believe.

Man is created a spirit, with a soul and body. Adam was created with the physical and spiritual ability to see the visible and the invisible at any time. The Bible says God walked with man in the cool of the evening, which seems to indicate Adam’s ability to see the spiritual realm, because God is Spirit. The fall removed man from communing with Him face to face in the spiritual dimension.

Faith is a spiritual material or substance of God. The Holy Ghost releases this substance according to the demand made on Him by someone who believes from his spirit. This demand is what many people call “releasing” our faith.

When Jesus resurrected Lazarus, His spirit and soul released his faith in the invisible realm and produced the visible miracle. Miracles are often used by the Lord to encourage people to believe.

If a Christian is to live victoriously in this life what he believes in his mind must be the same thing he believes with his spirit.

Jesus trained His soul to believe according to His spirit. Were the Words of His Father from His spirit?
This should be the first goal of every Christian. Otherwise, how can you trust the Bible?

The Bible is a spiritual book written for our spirits to understand it. The substance of the Bible is the invisible God manifested in physical words. Herein lies the heart of our current discussion.

Our spirits are constructed to transform our souls with the Bible. The substance of the Bible is God manifested in physical words.

All substance or material matter is created from the invisible realm. Most Bible teachers describe this invisible substance as faith. In our description of the invention of the airplane, faith was the substance from the invisible made visible in a flying machine.

One of the questions asked most often by Christians is why doesn’t my faith work? My response to this question is found in Habakkuk 2:4 DRB:

Behold, he that is unbelieving, his soul shall not be right in himself: but the just shall live in his faith.

The truth is, many Christians who ask that question are more interested in material substance rather than the spiritual. This is not a condemnation, because most people do not understand the distinction between the soul and spirit.

Tribulations forced me to study the scriptures to understand why my faith was not working. Many of the truths from that search are in this book. One truth that helped me and will help you is the revelation of Christ. That understanding alone transformed my doubt and unbelief, and it will do the same for you.

It was during those trials I discovered a different baptism than what I was taught earlier. I was transformed by this experience and I know you will be challenged as well.

CHAPTER 11

BAPTISM BY THE SPIRIT

I baptize you with water so that you will change the way you think and act. But the one who comes after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Matthew 3:11 GW

Many people speak about being baptized in the Spirit. The experience is Biblical and very real. Many people believe and even say that speaking in tongues is the evidence of being “filled” with the Holy Spirit. Nothing can be further from the truth. Speaking in an unknown tongue is a gift of the Spirit, not its fullness.

First, if someone uses the word filled it implies full, with no room remaining. An unknown tongue does not describe the verse in Matthew. Otherwise, why would some of these people who speak in tongues surf the Web for pornography and commit adultery.

Now, is it possible for someone filled to capacity with the Holy Spirit to willingly sin? Of course, the answer is no. This belief has created horrible consequences, the least of which is cheapening the experience with the precious Holy Spirit.

The sweet Holy Spirit is searching for a sanctified vessel in which to reside. His purpose for leading Jesus into the wilderness was to complete His total consecration that He began at the river Jordan.

Is it reasonable for us to believe we can respond to an altar call, recite a sinner’s prayer and have hands laid on us to be “filled” by the Holy Spirit without being led into the wilderness like Jesus?

The infilling begins at our crucifixion, when our sinful nature is nailed to the cross.

And they that
are Christ’s
have
crucified
the flesh with the affections and lusts.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:24 -25 NSAB

These are the primary steps necessary for a vessel to house the Holy Spirit.

He will not reside with anyone who has not cleaned his vessel and moved to the “servant’s quarters.”

Speaking with tongues is a tool the Lord uses for cleaning a vessel to occupy.

Jesus answered him; Those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will go to them and make our home with them.

John 14:23 GW

The importance of the baptism in the Holy Spirit cannot be emphasized enough. Do not stop “pressing in” until He possesses you. The Holy Spirit is the substance that produces faith, belief and true reality.

Faith is the invisible substance, which produces the physical manifestation in our souls to believe. Reality is only discovered with faith. If your substance is not formed from the Holy Ghost, your believing and your reality will be false.
