About
This Book

NOTHING SEVERS FATED MATES. NOT EVEN
DESTINY ITSELF.

Jenna Argo never imagined she'd see
Alaska for the first time as a prisoner. A ruthless treasure hunter's
plot to use the curvy half-blood tigress as bait means a tragic first
contact with her own kind.

Good thing Erik Nordclaw is smarter
than human evil. Wild, strong, and deeply protective, this Alpha
tiger shifter protects everything he claims. As soon as he lays eyes
on the voluptuous angel, he knows saving Jenna won't be enough. Erik
won't be satisfied until she's settled in his village and his bed.

Under her handsome savior's watch,
everything makes sense for the first time in Jenna's life. A man to
love and a place to call home are finally in claw's reach.

Then a devastating prophecy changes
everything. Jenna's bloodline is cursed, and its Erik's job to
convince her otherwise, no matter how much a sinister scheme seems to
confirm her dark fate.

Will
determined Erik prove she's his fated mate, or will Jenna's prophecy
doom him and all of Tiger Tree?

I:
Cold Stupor (Jenna)

I woke with a start in the cage. The chilly air on my
skin contrasted with the feverish heat blazing in my veins.

Where the hell am I?

I lifted my head, gazing out the single rectangular
window in the dingy cargo room. The icy, rugged looking mountains
below told me I wasn't in Kansas anymore.

Or rather, Georgia, the only place I'd ever called home.

It was hard to sit up in the cage with my hands bound.
Curling my lips, I cursed his name, but it was hard to think and even
harder to hate with an awful heat nipping at my brain.

Lust. Artificial and cruel. Lust that shouldn't be
there.

I looked down. The puncture mark from the big needle
they jabbed into my arm was still there.

Doctor Tarken himself had shot me up with the stuff, a
sickly gleam shining in his evil eyes, before he leaned down and
whispered the words I never wanted to hear again.

Night-night,
kitten. Sweet dreams. Rest up so you can make me a very rich man.”

I snarled at the memory, allowing a low growl to rise in
my throat. Too bad there was nobody else around to hear it, to
tremble before my wild killer instinct.

It was only me, totally alone in the cage. I focused on
my hatred to keep calm, alive.

Anything was better than the strong male bodies that
kept intruding on my thoughts. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw
men.

Hard, powerful men who looked like magazine models with
sleek muscles and lots of stubble, raw men who turned into full
blooded tigers and tackled me to the ground, claiming me with a swift
love-bite to the neck before we turned human again and went at it
rough.

Men who were too big, too hard, and too handsome for a
girl who carried too many extra pounds like me.

Ah, yes. This drug was powerful stuff. They might as
well have shot me up with something for mind control because this was
having the same effect.

It caused me to hallucinate, to desire sex with men
who'd never so much as give me a second glance.

Mercifully, my ears started to pop, a welcome
distraction. I rolled my head, fighting the dull pressure in my
sinuses.

For a moment, it blunted my uncontrollable lust and
piqued my curiosity.

We were landing, but where? And what new cruelty would
Tarken and his men introduce on the ground?

I held both arms in front of my face when the cargo door
slid open. The light was pure and blinding, stark sunbeams filtered
snow white through a sheet of clouds.

Come
on, come on. Let's move her out and into the van. Doesn't look like
she shifted in her cage,” an irritated voice said.

Men piled into the cargo hold, unloading everything in a
rush – including me. Two men gripped my cage by the handles,
making sure to keep their distance from the place where I crouched in
the center.

They weren't gentle, shoving my big cage into the van.
Several big poles from portable tents came through between the bars,
dangerously close to jabbing my sides.

Hello,
Jenna. I hope you've had a wonderful trip.”

I
recognized the voice instantly, a dead and calm tone almost as
glacial as the air. I glanced up once, and had to look away a second
later. No doubt about it – staring at his face too long
would
bring
out my tiger.

What's
that? Tiger got your tongue? Well, no matter.” Tarken adjusted
his owlish spectacles and pulled his jacket tighter. “I get it.
All this travel is difficult. Draining. Good news: you're almost
done. It's just a short ride into the Alaskan wilderness. You'll get
to touch your natural soil for the first time.”

Alaska?
The cold
wintry place at the top of the world was a universe away from
everything I'd known.

Smiling, he turned to go, but paused at the last second.
He reached into his pocket and let something drop from his hand,
holding it upright by a ropey black cord.

My amulet. The silver tiger tooth glinted in the
sunlight, a beautiful reminder of everything I'd lost by stupidly
wandering into his trap.

Bastard!”
I spat through the cage. My voice cracked, distorting into a hiss the
way it always did before I was about to shift in anger.

Tarken turned around, still wearing his sinister smile.

Save
some of that fight for the forest, Jenna. We want your scent to
travel far on the cool wind. Takes a tiger to catch one, you know.”
Tarken turned to the two young guys next to him. “Go ahead.”

They jerked forward and slammed the van's door, sealing
me in new dim shadows. I let my head fall to my breasts, panting to
refill my lungs.

I was totally on edge, feeling like a junkie. The need
for blood pulsed in every part of my body. So did the mating urge.
I'd never wanted to fuck and kill so badly before, and never at the
same time.

My hands jerked in the chains. They were strong –
well made to hold a big man or an even bigger animal. There was no
hope of breaking out, as I'd learned on the jet ride.

I just wished he hadn't gotten his filthy hands on my
amulet. I used to clench it tight beneath my shirt when I needed
strength, especially after my mother died. It reminded me of her, and
it was the one thing she'd passed along from my father, a symbol of
the strange attraction between a human woman and the skinwalker who'd
created me.

The ride into whatever desolate destination Tarken had
set was bumpy. I stared out the window. Under different
circumstances, I would've admired the pristine beauty of the tall
pines and the distant snow capped mountains.

Why do a feel a connection to this place? Is this
really ancestral tiger land?

I shook my head. The answers would come soon, but they
wouldn't come easy.

Alaska was a mystery, a world apart from the humid,
urban jungle of Atlanta. Hell, I'd never been more than a couple
states away before with Mom, and now this bastard had carried me
halfway across the world against my will.

I must've gotten lost in the beautiful scenery.

Rage, confusion, and throbbing lust caused time to pass
in a blink. I didn't even notice the van had stopped.

Next thing I knew, Tarken and his aides were at the
door, pulling it open with a pop. He gestured to me, and then waved
off in the distance, saying a few words to another man I couldn't
understand.

We're
going to open the cage door so you can slide out,” a man with
hard eyes said. “You won't run, jump, pounce or do anything
else to escape. Don't even think about shifting until we tell you to.
I've got two guys propped up on the roof with their sights on you.”

I rolled my eyes. How long was this lecture going to
run?

I knew a man trying to console his own fears when I saw
him. Tarken's men feared me, even if the professor didn't.

After I tuned out his words, I watched him fingering the
handgun in his pocket. As if that would do him any good against fangs
and claws like lightning if I decided to strike.

Those guys with sniper rifles on top of the van, on the
other hand...

I glanced back at the vehicle as soon as I stepped out.
He was telling the truth, much to my disappointment.

It was only early October, but it already felt like a
deep Georgian winter here in Alaska. The air was cold – too
frigid to tolerate for long in human form, even with the long sleeved
shirt wrapped around me.

Move.
We know there are tigers in the area, and you're going to bring them
to us.” The man nudged his gun into my back.

I had no choice but to walk, climbing over fallen logs
into a clearing.

The area ahead looked like something out of a wild
Alaskan documentary. I practically saw grizzly bears walking up to
the small river surrounded by high grasses, sipping cool water, or
maybe catching a few small salmon.

When we reached the point by the river, my captor
stopped. He fished a small metal stake from the bag he was carrying
and a mallet, and began pounding it into the ground.

I watched, numb, wishing I had a jacket for extra
warmth. Across the clearing, the goons on the van had their scopes
trained on me, eyeing us with deadly focus.

Hold
still. It's looser than I like, but it should be plenty tight when
you shift.”

Metal clicked on metal. I looked down and saw the chain
around my leg, stopping just above the ankle.

We locked eyes. I beamed hatred, never letting my gaze
waver as he unlocked the binding around my hands and let it fall to
the ground.

I didn't fight until he reached for my shoulders. Having
this stranger's unwelcome touch on one shoulder did it.

I pushed back against him, throwing everything I had
into it. My foot impacted his shin, sending him down to the ground.

No one had discovered my super-human strength the hard
way for years. Even a half-blood like me was stronger than any human
boy. The ones who teased me too much on the playground found out the
hard way, and now it was this full grown thug's turn.

Pride glowed. For a girl who'd never been in a real
fight, I'd done my job.

On the ground, the man looked up, serious anger flaring
on his face. He scrambled to his feet and started to close on me
again.

Harrison,
stand back! I'll do this part!” Doctor Tarken shouted from
across the clearing, moving on our position quickly.

You're
going to be a good girl and hold still for me, Jenna. Let's get that
sweater off. Cool air will feel good after being cooped up on our
journey from Atlanta...”

I tried to slap away Tarken's hands as he reached for
me, but he was too quick. Something told me he'd dealt with tiger
shifters before, or else he'd studied us well enough to know what to
expect. He was cautious, but firm, ripping my sweater off over my
shoulders, and then above my head.

The cold air blowing in from the arctic north suddenly
became three times colder He stepped away, watching as I hugged my
bare skin. Nothing felt worse than being in front of this creep in
nothing but my bra and jeans.
