Steven had been on guard that night.  The barn had one door in or out, so Steven was right inside the door.  Cans on strings had been set around the barn, as an alarm system.  When the alarm rang off, Steven was asleep.  Tim, Dr. Justin’s son, was a light sleeper.  He heard the cans crash together and had gotten up to check it out.  By the time Tim reached the door of the barn, two monsters had gotten in.  The first one had already started eating on Steven.  His screams woke up the rest of his group.  Justin’s son managed to kill the other super zombie, but not before the creature could tear into his neck, for one huge bite of flesh.  Dr. Justin tried to save his son, but was not successful.  The boy had kept fighting and lost too much blood, before his father was able to treat his wound.

Dr. Justin's group was down to eight people.  One month later, there was another attack on his people.  This time, the monsters took out four folks.  It had been another surprise attack, as well.  Dr. Justin and his wife were part of the four that had survived.

When the four had came up on the fenced in warehouse, they thought that they had finally came up on a place to settle down in.  The warehouse looked completely abandoned, as it did to Carla when she came upon it.  Finding a hole, already cut out in the fence, the four of them entered the grounds. The fences were tall, and strong.  They would find some metal off of the warehouse to make it even stronger and less transparent.

The group were celebrating their discovery, when Rusty found them.  Rusty acted friendly and said that the group could join his little community.  This was a trick to get them inside the building. Filled with joy, the group accepted Rusty’s invitation.  They had finally found a safe home.  They would finally be safe, away from the super zombies.

As soon as Dr. Justin and his companions let down their guards, the thugs attacked them.  Dr. Justin watched as the men raped his wife, over and over.  He watched the evil men do horrible things to the two men that had been traveling with him and his wife.

The two men that were traveling with Dr. Justin were Ray and Allen.  Chris tied Ray to a chair, soaked the man with gasoline, and lit him up like a torch.  When Carla heard this story, she remembered seeing a scorched spot in the concrete, right outside of the front offices.  Allen was beaten to death by all seven of the thugs.

The men made Dr. Justin watch every bit of the horror.  Right before they were about to kill him, he pleaded with them.  When he said that he was a doctor, the men stopped.  A doctor would be useful.  This is when they locked him up in the room that he was found in.

Dr. Justin had been locked up in this room for three months.  He weighed around two-hundred pounds, when he was thrown in the cell.  The thugs had only been feeding him three to four days a week, so he was barely at a hundred and thirty pounds.  He was also severely dehydrated, when Maggie found him.   Another few weeks in those conditions, and he probably would have been dead.

He told Brian and Carla about some of the victims that had came through the warehouse.  These men had killed children, and raped women. They had killed at least fifteen people, just in the time that Dr. Justin had been imprisoned.  They were land pirates.  They would rob a person of all their resources and then kill them, unless they had a use for them.  They had kept women alive for a few days at a time.  They would rape them to death, without even thinking twice about it.  When Jason heard all of these stories, he had really wished that he would have killed every last one of those men, before leaving the warehouse.

The army was about an hour away from home, when they heard sticks snapping in the woods.  By the sounds that were echoing through the woods, the object or objects were heavier than an animal.  An animal that would be around the East Texas area, anyways.

Suddenly, a thought hit Carla and Brian at the same time.  What if this was it.   What if it was the wickedly fast zombies and they were out in the daytime now!  Brian and Carla positioned themselves into a fighting stance, as they anticipated the monsters to shoot out of the woods at them.  Jason had a feeling that his son knew what was to be expected.  He did not question his sons paranoia, instead he joined them in being ready to defend.  When others saw the army members, they too took a fighting stance, as well.

None of the army expected what happened next, well except for Carla and Brain.  Carla was right.  The first monster pounced out onto the trail. The army was ready, but not for what they saw come out of the woods. Three evolved zombies jumped from the tree line.

One of the monsters leaped at Maggie.  She had also been in a fighting stance, so she was ready.  Before the monster could reach her, she shot it with her crossbow.  A flood of relief came over the group, when the zombie went down. Maggie walked over to the twice dead corpse and ripped her arrow back out it’s skull.  The army followed Maggie's lead and was able to put the other two creatures down.

It wasn’t over yet. There were two more creatures came that had came out of the woods at a high speed.  One in particular, was hard to put down.  The creature had once been a sweet little girl,  at the age of eight years old.  Her hair carefully put into pigtails, but knotted into nests on each side of her little head.  No one could kill the undead little girl. The little girl hadn’t even looked as if she had rotted at all.  Apart from the dried blood on her face and messed up hair, she was not in bad shape.  It was hard to look at here as a monster.

The little super zombie creature charged at Carla.  Carla could not move, she could not shoot her weapon. She had slain child monsters before, but this one was different.  She had no emotional attachment to the ones that she had killed in the past.  This had been a little girl that she had watched grow up.  The little girl was a previous neighbor.  She even baby sat the girl once or twice.   The monster jumped on Carla, and wrapped her little legs around her waist.  Opening her mouth to taste the neck of her prey, she stopped suddenly.  Her eyes froze and she started falling backwards.  Carla had stabbed her in the side of her head, with the knife that she had in her hand.

Time had stopped at that moment for Carla.  She went into shock.  She wasn’t even aware of her surrounding for a whole minute after the child zombie fell from her waist.  If there had been another monster coming for her, she would have been dead.  Luckily, no other monsters popped out of the woods.

The eyes were not the same as before.  All of the monsters that Carla had seen, up until now had been a burnt yellow with a cat-like pupil.  These monster’s eyes were a green color, with almost no pupil at all.  Their skin had a darker color than the night walkers.  There was one thing about these new hybrid killers, that was the same.  They were fast and furious.

"How in the world are they out in the daylight?", asked Maggie, as she was trying to catch her breath.

Jason shook his head in amazement and said,"I don't know young lady. If I didn't know any better, I would think that the crazed zombies are evolving some how."

Maggie thought about what Jason said for a moment and said,”You know, we don’t know much about these monster.  Jason you could be right.”

With a puzzled look on his face, Jason said,”That would be impossible.  That would mean that they were never dead.  When you're dead, you stop growing, right?”

“Ain’t your heart suppose to stop beating, as well?,” Maggie asked.

Jason suddenly remembered discovering that the monster’s hearts did beat inside their chests.

Brian interrupted his father’s thoughts and said,"Dad, Carla and I have to tell you something.”

Carla shook her head in protest to Brian's words. She did not want her father to be the last to know about her dream.  That did not stop Brian.  After taking Jason and Carla aside.  He started to tell his father about Carla and her secret.

"We have to tell them, Carla," Brain said, staring into his best friend’s pleading eyes.

"Tell us what?", asked Jason, as he looked back and forth between his son and Carla.

"It's not her fault, but Carla has been dreaming of this very event.”

"What!  Why didn’t you tell me!”, he said in amazement.

At first, Jason was angry with his Carla and his son.  After thinking it over a moment, he realized that nothing would have been changed.  The team would have still went on the rescue mission.  Well, maybe not so big in numbers if they had known about the new monsters.  Defending themselves would have been the same and they would have still been done everything the same.

Jason’s voice calmed down, and he said,”Even if you would have told us before the mission, we would have still went and all would have been almost exactly the same.  I am not angry at you at all, but please don’t let them get this intense before saying something allowed.”

Carla bowed her head and said,"I just wasn’t sure yet.  I didn’t want to give any false alarms.  I didn’t  want to start a panic for nothing.”

Jason put his arm around Carla’s shoulders and said,”If it is a false alarm, it would be better to be overly cautious then unprepared for what might be to come.”

Carla gave Jason a look, that said, “Are you sure?”

Jason turned Carla, so that the two of them were face to face, and said,”Everything will be alright.  I have a plan to hide your identity.  You have to trust me, and I have to trust you to tell me when you start dreaming again.  That a deal?”

He knew that part of her fear had to do with people thinking she was a freak or something.  He had already been thinking of a plan.  He was going to tell the all the residents of Bark’s Ranch the same thing.  He would tell them that there was a couple of secret agents.  These agents would go out and search for conversation or updated information.  When they found something, they would return to the ranch.  The secret agents would only talk to him and Zeke.  It would then be up to Zeke and himself to pass on any information that the agents might run into.  He would even remind the residents that the information may not be true, but precautions were to be made, just incase. The reason for keeping the agents a secret, was to protect them.  It wasn’t really a lie, there were two secret agents, of sorts.  These were Zeke and Carla.

Carla nodded her head to agree with Jason.  She set down on an old log, to rest a minute, before the army continued.

After the Carla sat down, the army rested for five more minutes before continuing the trip home.  They needed to get their wits about them, but had to keep moving.  The gates would be shutting in only forty-five minutes.  It would take every bit of that time, to get back home.

Dr. Justin was walking beside Jason, when he saw something on the ground.  The last of the day's sunlight was gleaming in rays and bouncing off the object.  The doctor celebrated when he picked up the chrome colored whistle.  Jason looked at him like he was a bit on the crazy side.

"Why on earth are you getting so happy about finding a whistle on the ground?," asked Jason.

"I have an idea that might work against the monsters.  Something happened a few months back.  That incident gives me an idea.”, Dr. Justin said, as he examined the whistle in his hands.

Jason looked at Dr. Justin, with wonder in his eyes.  What was that old man up to?  If he did come up with a weapon, he had better tell him about it right away.  He was glad that they had rescued this stranger. The doctor seemed as if he would be a great asset to the ranch.

The army made it back into the gates, with only three minutes to spare.  Zeke and Kate were standing right inside the gate.  They were getting nervous that their little girl had not made it back yet.  Carla ran up to her father and wrapped herself around him.  She was glad to be home.

Carla whispered into her dad’s ear,”Dad, they can move in the daylight now.”

Zeke back away from his daughter, with concern on his face.

“What do you mean, baby girl?”

“I will tell you later, tomorrow.”, answered Carla.

Zeke let it be and took his daughter home.  He was just glad that his daughter was alive and well.  They would talk about the details of the adventure at a later time.
