“That’s it?” I was grumpy.

“What do you suggest I do, Evelyn?”

What did I suggest he do? I wasn’t sure. But I hated the thought of Little Miss Perfect getting away with talking to me the way she did. Treating me like dirt. Telling me I was nothing but an alcoholic after her brother’s money.

Okay. I’d suggest he do nothing, because the time for me to do
something
would be at hand shortly.

“Nothing. Forget it.”

We reentered the bedroom. I’d started to undress myself when Parks perched at the end of the bed and narrowed his green eyes at me.

“What?” My frown was deep and curious.

“Snap out of your mood, Evelyn.”

“I’m not in a mood,” I snapped. I damn well
was
in a mood. My back was facing him when I pulled off the dress and let it drop to the floor. As I stood there in a pair of lace knickers I felt him staring at my arse.

“Yes, you are. You feel distant. I hate it when you’re like this. It feels like I can’t get to you.”

“Oh?” I turned and watched his eyes quickly shift to my tits. “It’s not nice, is it?” I was referring to
his
moods. When he acted cold and distant, I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs until he heard me. I was glad he felt the same.

“Time of the month coming up?” he teased but quickly dropped his smirk when he witnessed my complexion pale. “What?” he asked in haste.

“Did you pack my pills?”
Shit!

“Your pills?” He frowned, his complexion suddenly matching mine. “No. I thought you carried them in your handbag?”

Double shit.
“I do, but they’re in my Mulberry bag. Back at home,” I added, horrified.

His Adam’s apple bobbed. “How many have you missed?”

My eyes rolled to the ceiling as I nervously worked it out in my head. “Two days.” I exhaled in a rush as my pulse started to fluctuate.

“Okay.” His tone was back to being calm. “So everything is fine?”

Oh was he in for a shock. “Depends. Do you have condoms?”

He scoffed. “Of course I don’t.”

“Then sex is off.”

“Excuse me?” He was mortified, like I had announced the most obscene thing in the world.

“I can’t take chances, Wade. If you don’t have condoms, then sex is off.” I loved telling him that because his face was a picture. So funny and horrified. But I also hated it because fuck if I wanted to go without sex.

His loud groan echoed around the room. He even childishly threw himself back onto the bed. “I should punish you for this. No sex is going to kill me.”

“It’s your fault for being so careless. Or you could just go get some condoms? Unless—” I smirked, “—you can cope with blue-balls syndrome?”

“Fuck no.” He sat up, and a menacing grin spread across his lovely face. “I will be fucking you. It doesn’t have to be in your sweetness.”

My stomach tensed, and a sweet ache began to make itself know between my legs. “Then you better show me what you mean.” My tone was soft, purring, and seductive as I pulled my knickers all the way down to my ankles, then stepped out them. Naked and standing bare in front of Parks clearly made his appetite for my body surge.

“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes upon.”

“Glad to hear it.” I turned on my bare heel and padded into the bathroom.

The bathroom was huge with white marble floors and walls and contained a spectacular egg-shaped floating bath, a hexagon-shaped walk-in shower, gorgeous, hand-carved cabinets, and soft lighting. There was also a long wall covered with mirrors sitting above double sinks. I headed toward it and began mindlessly brushing my hair.

Parks followed me in naked. I shifted restlessly on my bare feet as his gaze travelled all the way down my backside and he caught his bottom lip between his teeth on a growl.

“You drive me crazy,” he said with solid conviction, padding over to me. Stepping up behind me, he slipped his arms through mine and held on to the cabinet in front of me, trapping me between it and his body brushing against my backside. Oh God, the rigid length of his erection was skating over my arse, making me quiver.

Parks pulled my hair to one side, then trailed feather-light kisses along my bare shoulder, sending my legs into a quiver. My head tilted to the right as he began licking into my ear, skimming his tongue down my neck, then biting gently at my shoulder blade.

“Tell me how much your sweetness is going to miss my cock.” His erotic, raspy words had me melting into a puddle of lust.

“It’s going to miss its partner in crime very much,” I teased, my head rolling as I relished in his lingering kisses to my neck.

“Then you better open your mouth. You can’t get pregnant from that.” He smirked.

“Yes, you can,” I teased him.

“Shut up, Evelyn, and come suck me off.”

“So romantic.” I chuckled.

Chapter

Thirty-Two

For dinner that evening, I wore a blue Chanel dress that fell just below my knees and black pumps. I kept my hair down straight and makeup light. My eyes, though, were pinned on Parks. A black shirt defined the sharp edges of his shape, and tailor-made, dark grey trousers accentuated his long legs. I loved every spectacular inch of him.

Parks ignored my amorous gaze and dipped down to kiss my pink, glossy lips. “You look stunning. I want to peel this dress off your sweet body, unravel my prize, and delve into my gift.”

“I need to fuck you.” My dirty words spilled from my mouth before I’d even thought about it.

He chuckled as he scratched his delicious jaw. “Excuse me?”

I slipped my hands up his chest just so I could touch him. “Parks, you look so fucking hot. I can’t stop looking at the way your muscles are straining under that shirt. Can’t stop looking at the outline of your dick in those trousers. I want to jump on your cock while you’re still wearing those clothes. And if we don’t fuck now, I will be frustrated throughout dinner.”

“Wow,” he gasped, faltering a little. “My impatient, sexy woman has it bad for me.”

“So fucking bad.” My voice was breathless. I had the most perfectly handsome, hot sonofabitch as a boyfriend. As a lover. And that was hard to take at times.

He took a short step towards me, then leaned into my ear, his scent and touch electrify the hairs on my body. “Too bad we forgot your pills. You won’t be riding my dick, Princess.” Taking my earlobe between his teeth, he nipped it, then gave me a smack across my arse.

“Ow.” I sulked. “What was that for?”

“Calling me Parks.”

“Did I?” My lips were pouting.

He rolled his eyes. “Yes. You did.” Changing the course of conversion, Parks went on. “Listen, my father will be joining us for dinner. If it’s possible, please give him as little of your time as you can.”

“Why?”

“Can you just do as you’re told without asking questions?”

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. “Bossy bastard,” I muttered, but he’d heard me and flashed me narrowed eyes.

“Bossy bastard. Arrogant arse. Douche. Is there anything else you would like to add to the list of hating on me?”

I stalked towards him, ran a finger down his chest, and snaked my arm around his waist. “Well, yes, actually. But we’d be here all night.”

He gripped at my wrists and held them tightly. “I think I should teach you some manners.”

“Oh?” That got my attention. “Will you tie me up and spank me?”

“Would you like that?” He licked his lips slowly, forcing my eyes to follow the wet trail he left on the curve.

Blowing out a breath, I replied, “I would love that.”

“Later.” He let my wrists drop from his hold and kissed me chastely.

“Bore,” I quipped.

Hand in hand, Parks and I strolled through the wonders of the mansion. It was decorated like a palace. Golds, fine china, marble, hand-carved cabinets, expensive paintings. It was the most extraordinary house I had ever seen.

By the time we made our way out into the garden, where we were having dinner, the sun was setting magically in the distance, shadowing the land with deep oranges and reds. Our table was set up under a gorgeous white canopy near the pool side, and tea candles were sitting around the edge of the pool, lightning it up. I noticed three candelabras on the table amid white rose petals scattered stunningly. Six places were set up to dine, and it reminded me I had to share a space with Jasmine.

Instant buzzkill.

“Wade, my precious boy.” Harriet came out of nowhere and took Parks into her arms. She smelt divine and looked dressed for a royal occasion in a white cocktail dress, beautiful black sandals, and with her hair pinned up.

“Mother.” Parks addressed her formally, hardly hugging her back.

“And Evelyn. Beautiful girl.” She gave me a soft wink and embraced me, which made me stiffen, but I had to accept her hug. It warmed me that she seemed to like me. Parks watched on as myself and his mother embraced. He was happy that we got along. Thankfully.

“Oh. Evelyn, meet my husband, Clinton. I don’t think you got the chance to meet last night.”

Clinton came out of the house and headed towards us wearing a sharp, fitted suit that showed off a toned body. For a mature man, he was gorgeous. Dark hair greying a little at the sides, clean-shaven, and with vivid green eyes just like Parks and Jasmine had.

“Evelyn.” Clinton reached me, his mouth opening wide on a smile, showing me perfect white teeth. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He took hold of my knuckles and kissed them gently. Parks stiffened immediately and pulled on my hand, sending me behind him.

“My wife has told me so much about you. It’s a shame I had to hear it from her and not my own son.” Clinton shot a look towards Parks as he let my hand go.

“Yes, it is.” Parks glared at him as a warning, then ushered me to the dinner table and pulled out a chair for me to take a seat. I couldn’t help notice it was the chair furthest away from Clinton, who was sat as head.

Parks got seated next to me and soon after came along Jasmine and her partner Trent. He was a handsome man with black hair styled to perfection and sparkling, hazel eyes. He looked older than Jasmine but wealthy. I could see that a mile off. Harriet sat at my end of the table so I was nearest her. A waitress came around and first filled each glass that was placed at the table with water, then placed a jug of watermelon juice onto the table.

“Is Abigail not joining us?” Parks inquired.

Harriet shook her head, making the beautiful dangling pearls in her ears rock. “No, dear. She’s attending a piano lesson.”

“She’s getting good,” Clinton piped up. “Better than you were at her age.” It was a clear dig at Parks, and the way Parks balled his fists next to me told me it was something Clinton did often.

“Yeah?” Parks scoffed. “Three hours of piano lessons a night and that talent has no relevance in my life.”

Clinton’s nostrils flared. “It was a talent I brought out of you. Are you going to try and tell me that French, Italian, and Spanish classes didn’t help you, either? Everything I forced you and your sister to do as children has great relevance in your life. Don’t dare to undermine me.”

Forced? Parks was
forced
to do all those things as a child? I lifted my glass of water to my lips just to hide my confusion.

“Please, can we just have a nice family dinner? I haven’t had my son home in months, Clinton.” Harriet was almost begging, her voice timid and frail as she asked her husband nicely. It was a sure sign that Clinton wore the trousers in their relationship and Harriet did as she was told. Suddenly realizing it made me feel extremely uncomfortable and utterly sympathetic towards her. Clinton was coming across as self-centred, strict, and a controlling dickhead.

“He’s been working, Harriet. Where he should be. The less he’s home, the better.”

“Well,” Parks added, “that’s something we agree on.”

Jasmine’s eyes rolled back and forth from her parents to Parks. She was almost embarrassed, but I felt her pain. Even though I hated her.

“So, Evey.” Clinton clasped his hands together. “Tell me how you and my son met? I know I won’t acquire the information from Wade.”

“Neither will you get it from Evelyn.” Parks stopped my words coming out as he shut his father down. His mother shifted in her seat, but the smile on her face remained.

“Wade, you are so private,” Harriet went on, seeming to stick up for Clinton. “We are a family. You can share things with us.” She was pressing, and I felt bad because it seemed she so desperately tried with her son but got nothing from him.

Wade took a glass of watermelon juice to his lips. “We’re all private around here, Mother.”

Harriet tensed but uneasily kept that smile on her face. A smile I quickly got to know as fake. Putting up pretences. Keeping up appearances. For what?

When Clinton was served wine, I noticed Harriet’s chest rising and falling. Jasmine exchanged a glance with Parks, and he clenched his palm around his fork.

“Evey, Wine?” Clinton asked me while the server came towards me with the bottle resting across his forearm.

“Evelyn doesn’t drink,” Parks snapped, making the waiter retreat. Clinton glowered at his son, then turned his attention onto me.

“Oh, a lifestyle choice?”

Harriet’s full attention also seemed to be resting on my answer, but I played it down.

“I just don’t like it very much.”

“Nonsense.” Clinton waved his hand around dismissively. “We have the best wine growing here on this estate. Come, try some.” Clinton beckoned the waiter back with the wine. “Pour the lady a glass.”

“She doesn’t drink,” Parks yelled, banging his fists on the table, making the glasses clink.

All expressions fell, all except Clinton’s. His eyes were narrowed as he watched his son thoughtfully. “My apologies,” he said before taking a sip of his wine.

I caught Jasmine starting at her brother in a way that said, “
calm down,”
but
Harriet seemed oblivious to her son’s outburst. Either that or she chose to ignore it to keep the peace
.

“So what is it that you do, dear?” The question Harriet asked made me feel a little uncomfortable. I was dining with wealthy, high-profile, educated people. I really, deeply did not want to go into me.

“Evelyn works at my law firm in London alongside Clarke Muriel,” Parks answered for me, which I was both grateful for and pissed. Pissed because it seemed to be a diversion from me actually telling them I was just a simple assistant.

“You make it sound so glamorous. I’m just an assistant.” No, I never wanted to talk about me, but I wasn’t going to feel like I was too ashamed to tell them about my actual job. Ashamed was something of the past.

Clinton almost choked on his fine wine. Everyone could see he was starting to get rowdy and rude. It made me wonder if he was already drunk before the dinner party started.

“An assistant?” he spluttered, banging his fist against his chest. “Jesus, son. I brought you up better than that.”

Harriet gasped at her husband’s remarks, but I wasn’t offended. I could take the shit people thought of me. Parks, however, seemed incensed. “Evelyn means a great deal to me. I dare you to say one more remark about her and—”

“And what?” Clinton smirked menacingly.

“Don’t,” Parks threatened viciously as he stared down his father. Clinton seemed to take great pride in provoking his son, cruelly making him feel diminutive.

The first course arrived just in time to end the sparring match between father and son, and Clinton left the conversation at a rest and began asking Trent about his multimillion pound computer business. Yawn.

“You okay?” I edged towards Parks, pressing a reassuring hand to his knee.

I watched him purse his lips. “If you just move your hand between my legs, I’ll be fine.”

My sex clenched in response to his low, rude words, stealing my breath and replacing it with desire. The way Parks coped with things he couldn’t deal with was by letting his temper get the better of him or fucking me senseless. Delving into my world to forget his own.

Wanting so badly to cup his cock, I couldn’t help but do it. His lips parted, his fork in midair. I didn’t even notice what our main course was. My focus was on pretending to eat and fondling the love of my life.

My palm started rubbing against his solid cock that was thickening under my touch. Only I could hear the low groans that left his mouth, but his expression remained impassive, controlled, and false.

“Evelyn,” he breathed so I could only hear. “Unzip me.”

“What?”

Parks chewed his food slowly. “Do it.”

My gulp seemed loud but only to my ears. My mouth was dry. My core tightening. I really, badly wanted to take his cock out and wank him off under the table. But getting caught wasn’t the way I wanted to do it.

“Did you hear that, Wade?” Clinton’s question forced me to let go of Parks’s erection and place my hand back up onto the table. Parks growled in his throat before replying to his father.

“What’s that?”

Clinton placed down his fork. “Trent’s business has turned over two hundred million dollars in its first year alone.”

“Great.” Parks nodded in acknowledgment to Trent.

Clinton’s eyes narrowed, despising his son’s ignorance. “I heard the finance companies’ shares have dipped by one percent.”

Both Jasmine and Parks exchanged glances, then stared at their father. Jasmine was the CEO of WParks Financing. Parks had told me he gave it to her, so I wasn’t entirely sure why it seemed like Clinton was grilling Parks for it.

“It did,” Parks cleared it up confidently, “but it will go back up in a couple of months. I’m not worried. And neither is Jasmine.”
