“Just for you.”

“That’s okay,” she said and then yawned. “I
don’t want you to be sweet to anyone but me. What did you mean when
you said ‘mating gaze’?”

He kissed her throat. “It’s because you’re my
truemate. A saber’s eyes turn a very deep gold only in the presence
of his or her truemate before they mate.”

“It was a beautiful color,” she said.

“That, too, is just for you.”

He drifted off to sleep with his mate tucked
securely against him. For the first time in years, he was truly
happy.

Alaric thought his mate made the sweetest
sounds when she came. He woke her up several hours after they’d
fallen asleep, making good on his promise to lick her for a good,
long while. When they finally made love again, the connection he
felt between them strengthened even more. Each time he came inside
her, he felt closer to her, as if there were an invisible tie
between them, linking them forever. He’d never been one to wax
poetic, but while his sweetheart writhed under him in bliss, he
wanted to write a sonnet about how gorgeous she was.

Creamy skin flushed pink with passion, her
eyes a beautiful deep brown, bright with happiness. He was already
half in love with her. The mating connection allowed him to feel a
shadow of her feelings in his own heart, and he knew she was on the
same page as him. They were both falling for each other, after only
a few hours together. The more time they spent together, the deeper
the connection would grow.

He nuzzled her belly with a purr, and she
sighed deeply in contentment. “Cats love cream, I guess,” she said
with a passion-roughed voice.

Grinning, he licked her navel. “You’re my
favorite flavor.”

Climbing up the bed, he dropped next to her
and pulled her flush to him. She fit perfectly against him, her
soft curves against his hard muscles.

“Are you hungry?” she asked.

“I just ate,” he said, chuckling.

She snorted. “Well, I’m hungry.” Rolling to
face him, she wiggled close and kissed his throat. “And sticky. I
want a shower and something to eat.”

“It’s good to be sticky when it means we’ve
had so much fun,” he said.

“True.”

After a long moment, he sat up and handed her
the tablet from the bedside table. “If you order room service, I’ll
get the shower ready.”

“What do you want?” She asked as she took the
tablet from him.

“Whatever you’re having is fine. Then get
your sweet butt into the shower.”

He kissed her forehead and stood, stretching.
Glancing at the clock, he saw they had a couple hours until it was
time to meet his brothers and sister. Just enough time to clean up,
feed his mate, and get sticky all over again.

Chapter 7

Aubrey closed her eyes as Alaric sucked on
her neck. The elevator was quick, and she knew that the few floors
between hers and where his family was staying would be over fast,
but she couldn’t get enough of Alaric.

Slipping her hands under the back of his
shirt, she said, “I feel so connected to you.”

“Me too,” he said against her neck.

“I didn’t think that would happen with me
being human.”

He lifted from her neck and looked down at
her. “We’re truemates, Aubrey. It wouldn’t matter if you were human
or another shifter or supernatural creature. The connection between
us would be just as strong. You’re not less than because you’re
human. You’re perfect for me because of what we are to each
other.”

“You don’t mind that I’m human?”

He scoffed. “No. There were times in my youth
when I would have given anything to be human. It’s a difficult life
at times. We are what we are, and there isn’t anything I’d change
about you.” He raised a brow. “Does it bother you that I’m a
shifter?”

“Of course not.”

“Good.”

The elevator reached the eighth floor and
chimed, and the door slid open. “After dinner,” he said quietly,
“we’re going to make love on the balcony.”

Her stomach flipped at the thought. “Which
one?”

“Both.”

He grinned devilishly, and she couldn’t help
but return it. They walked down the long hallway to room number
822. She had received a text from Gretchen with the room numbers
while she and Alaric had been making love the first time. She knew
her best friend would have taken good care of Aubrey’s new
family.

“I invited my brother to join us for dinner.
He won’t eat, of course, but he can sit and chat. I’m excited for
you to meet him.”

Alaric nodded and knocked on the suite’s
door. It swung open almost immediately, and Lia greeted them
warmly. When Aubrey followed Alaric into the room, Lia hugged her
tightly.

“I’m so glad my brother found you,” she
said.

“Me too.”

Lia released Aubrey from the hug and smiled
brightly. “There’s been a development.”

“With what?” Alaric asked.

Galen, who was sitting on the couch in the
sitting area of the suite, said, “Slade found his truemate.”

“Really? Where?” Aubrey asked.

“It’s your friend, Gretchen. They met, he
passed out, and then he shifted. It’s a good thing the lobby was
nearly empty or there might have been some explaining to do,” Lia
said.

“That’s so cool!” Aubrey said. “Are they
coming to dinner?”

Galen shook his head. “Slade texted me when
he shifted back to human form and said he’d meet us for breakfast
tomorrow. You know what this means?”

“What?” Aubrey asked.

“I’m next.” Galen’s brows wiggled and a big
grin split his face.

“And then me. Woohoo!” Lia did a little
dance, with her short, black skirt fluffing as she moved.

Aubrey looked up at her mate and he smiled.
“You’re good luck, sweetheart.”

“I am?”

Nodding, he said, “Because of you, my brother
also found his mate. Maybe Galen and Lia will be lucky enough to
find their mates in Belle Terra, too.”

“I hope so,” Lia said wistfully.

“I’d like to go to bed right now,” Galen
said.

“That’ll have to wait. We need to discuss our
contract with Jonathon, our plans for the future, and Aubrey’s
brother is joining us.”

“I’ve never met a master vampire before,” Lia
said. “What should we call him?”

“Caleb is fine,” Aubrey promised. “Vampires
who swore an oath to his kiss call him Master, but you’re part of
the family now, so you can call him by his name.”

Alaric looked down at Aubrey. “Are you ready
to go to dinner?”

“The sooner the better,” she said.

As the small group left Lia’s room and walked
to the elevators, Aubrey squeezed Alaric’s hand tightly. She
couldn’t believe that her best friend was now mated to her
brother-in-law. She had wondered if, when Slade began to have the
mating dreams and had to move on to find his mate, Alaric would
have wanted to leave with his family. She couldn’t imagine their
family wanting to be apart after being together for so long. At
least for now, until Galen started having mating dreams, they could
all be together.

She looked up at Alaric as the elevator doors
slid shut and headed to the lobby. He was her mate. The sexiest guy
she had ever laid eyes on was hers for the rest of their lives.
Someday – soon she hoped – she would have his children, and their
little family would grow. She could now call Gretchen her sister in
truth, and that was sweet, too.

“What are you thinking about?” Alaric
asked.

“Kids.”

“Cubs,” he corrected.

“Right. I was thinking about having your
cubs.”

He purred and her stomach clenched.

“Seriously? I want to eat dinner. I’m
freaking starving,” Galen grumbled.

Alaric hauled Aubrey close with a gruff sound
and said, “We can talk more tonight. Dinner first. Then
dessert.”

Galen made a strangled, annoyed sound, and
Alaric lifted his hand from Aubrey’s back and slugged him in the
shoulder.

“Ouch, damn it.”

“Be nice. My mate is talking about having my
cubs.”

“Fine, fine. Oh glorious day, my brother is
having a conversation in an elevator about knocking up his
mate.”

Aubrey chuckled and then it turned into a
full blown laugh. “I like your family,” she said, as Alaric lowered
his head to kiss her.

“You’re part of it now, too.”

“Good.”

He kissed her and then nuzzled her neck. “I
want you to be mine in every way. Mated, married, living together.
Whatever the future brings, I know your life is in Belle Terra, and
I’m not going anywhere.”

Relief twined through her. She hadn’t
realized that thinking about leaving her brother and her life in
Belle Terra had been a source of stress. She would have gladly gone
wherever Alaric needed to go for his family, but she was supremely
happy that he wanted to be in Belle Terra.

“Thank you, Alaric.”

“For what?”

“For being an amazing mate.”

He grinned broadly. “I haven’t hit amazing
yet, love. Just wait until dessert.”

Slade’s Feisty Mate

Saber Chronicles Book Two

Slade Carmichael, second oldest were-saber
toothed tiger, is happy his brother Alaric found his mate. He can’t
wait to begin mate-dreaming about his own mate and get started on
the next chapter of his life.

She-wolf Gretchen Havers is thrilled her best
friend, Aubrey, found her mate at the were-fights and is happy to
help Aubrey’s new family get settled in the supernatural hotel
where she works. It is just a typical night, until a sexy guy walks
in the front door, locks eyes with her, and promptly passes
out.

She never expected her mate to purr, but
she’s thrilled she’s found her truemate. She’s always thought of
wolves as being the most awesome shifters because of their hunting
skills and beautiful fur coats, but she’s beginning to think that
tigers are pretty awesome too. Especially her truemate, who thinks
she smells like butterscotch and likes how feisty she is.

Contains m/f interaction, a lot of pleasure,
and several creamy puns.
