Carol says “Wow Anna really? Why would you do this?”

Anna says nothing. Just gathers her clothes and bolts out the door. Carol and I just stand there watching Zack get dressed.

“I swear Raelyn this is all a misunderstanding.”

“Wow really. A misunderstanding.” I chuckle. I can’t believe he is saying this to me. “Ok. Let me see if I get this correct. You get jealous over me helping several people fix the damn copy machine, get so physical with me that I end up breaking my wrist, forcefully have sex with me to the point of you left marks on my neck and then I catch you fucking someone else. Wow am I missing something?”

“Yes you are Raelyn. Gavin confronted me about what I did and honestly I feel so bad. I was so upset I started drinking and then Anna was here and one thing led to another. I am so sorry baby but you have to believe me she means nothing to me.”

“Yeah well apparently Raelyn doesn’t mean shit to you either.” Carol says

“You shut up or I will fire your ass.” Zack grits his teeth and points to Carol.

“You can’t fire me. I don’t work for you. And I know Gavin won’t do a damn thing to me since the recommendation for firing would be coming from you. Your word around here won’t mean shit and all you will ever been known as is the lawyer that abuses woman you cheating mother fucker.” Carol says getting right up in Zack’s face.

“Carol you are right. He is nothing but a cheating ass mother fucker who beats the shit out of woman he claims he loves.” I say backing away towards the door.

“Raelyn wait please. I do love you. Marry me.” He says as if that is what will save our relationship and fix all our problems.

“Are you fucking serious?” I ask thrown back. I can’t believe he is asking me this right now when two minutes ago I caught him fucking someone else.

“Yes Raelyn please marry me. I love you so much and I can’t live without you. I won’t live without you. Marry Me. Let’s put this all behind us and have a life together.” He gets down on one knee in front of me.

I can’t hold it in any more. I burst out laughing. What I call Ugly Laughing. The kind of laughing that brings tears to your eyes and you can’t breathe because you are laughing so hard. Once I finally calm down I wipe my tears away and look him right in the face.

“No Zack! I will not marry you. Matter of fact we are done. I hate you and want nothing to do with you. Fuck you Zack. Have a great life.” I turn and walk out the door with Carol.

Zack comes running out the door and says “I am still your boss your ass better be here tomorrow morning.”

“Fuck you Zack or I mean Mr. Thompson. I QUIT!” I yell as I walk out the office and leave this horrible situation behind.

I crash at carols for 2 weeks. Going on job interview after job interview and nothing is happening. Nothing at all. I know that is all thanks to Zack. I tried a few times to use him as a reference but that ended up making it worse. After a few bad references from him I just stopped using him all together. But who is going to hire someone who has no job reference. Not one that pays anything decent. Carol said I could stay with her as long as I want but after two weeks I realize I have nothing left here for me. I can’t believe I came down here to start a new life and ended up getting in such a bad situation that I have to go back home. And to go home physically broken and without a job. Luckily since I was making so much money from working with Zack and having no bills because I lived with him I am not broke. Which came in handy when I had to buy new clothes because Zack refused to give me any of my belongings back. He claimed that I would be running back to him so he didn’t see the need in moving any of my things. I figured it would be simpler to just buy everything new then see him again or fight with him about it.

But now I am home. Away from my abuser but back to the town I once dropped everything and ran from. I should have known I couldn’t stay away from here. Bellefontaine is one of those towns where people are really quick to escape but it sucks ya right back in. Might not be right away but everyone eventually comes home. And right now I am the one coming home.
