When he popped off, she spoke again, her voice ragged with arousal. “Now isn’t a good time, Marcus. The world is too uncertain.”

“I agree.” He sucked her other nipple into his mouth next.

She firmed her grip. “Then what are we going to do?”

Marcus finally took pity on her. He lifted his head from her chest and leaned over to the bedside table to extract a condom. When he returned to center, he held it up. “I hate these things.”

“Me too. But…”

“I know.” He smiled. “No worries. I’ll protect you from my swimmers for a few days.” As much as he would love to have a child with Heather, he had to agree with her reasoning. Now was a bad time. Hopefully soon the world would be a better place, and they wouldn’t have to worry about so many factors concerning the birth of another shifter. He ripped the foil open and rolled the condom onto his cock.

“Thank you.” She visibly relaxed her frame.

He stroked a hand between her breasts, across her stomach, and lower. When he pressed into her pussy, he found her wetter than ever.

Heather moaned and lifted her torso into his touch.

Marcus set one hand on her torso and pressed her firmly into the mattress. He needed her as badly as she did him. The urgency had skyrocketed with her ovulation. He couldn’t bring himself to tease her tonight as he normally did. Instead, he swiped his fingers through her folds and across her clit. “So wet, baby.”

Heather didn’t respond. Her eyes glazed over as she watched him.

He didn’t wait another moment. Taking her by surprise, he leaned over her, straddling her with his elbows on both sides of her head, and thrust into her.

She screamed.

He never took her that fast. He usually enjoyed the game they played where he tortured her with his fingers and his lips until she pleaded with him to let her come.

Tonight was different, however. Tonight he had renewed hope for the world. Tonight Heather’s scent drove him quickly to the edge. Tonight he needed to be inside her immediately, reassured by her pussy gripping his cock that life was good. The world was still a good place. They would survive.

Marcus thrust harder. He dipped his hands under her knees to press them up and away from her body. It gave him the deepest penetration.

Heather moaned. Her head rolled back and forth. She grabbed his biceps tighter.

“Marcus. I’m going to come.”

He nibbled a path to her ear and whispered, “Come with me, Heather. Now.”

They both crashed over the edge at the same moment, an orgasm that took Marcus’s breath away even with the addition of the condom.

He kissed his mate thoroughly, delving into her mouth with his tongue as the pulses of her orgasm slowed.

“I love you. We’re going to be okay.”

“I love you too,” she mumbled against his mouth.

Marcus stared into his mate’s eyes for long moments, hoping his optimism was well-founded. He prayed the two sides of this impending war could work things out with minimal loss of life.

He looked forward to a long and happy future with his mate. They were just starting out. They deserved the same life expectancy generations of shifters before them had experienced.

It had to work. He would accept no other option.
