And then there is no reading into anything.

“I have some demands myself,” I say, pushing his hand off and unbuckling my seatbelt.

“Seatbelt, sweet thing.”

I get on my knees and lean across the console. While I kiss his neck, I undo his pants.

“No one else gets this for as long as it’s my secret.”

“Secrets go to the grave, Madison. Let’s not fool ourselves.”

“Your cock,” I say in his ear, “is my secret.”

“It sure is,” he groans as I pull him free.

“If you stick it in anyone else while I am fucking you, I will cut it off.”

A deep, dark laugh comes out of him. “I’ve never done that, but don’t mistake this for a commitment.”

“Okay,” is all I say before stroking him as I bend down and take him in my mouth as fully as I can.

“Jesus Christ, Madison,” he groans. “You’re gonna make me break the rule if you keep doing that.”

I let him fall out of my mouth and look up at him, “Well, then, as much as I like breaking rules, a promise is a promise.”

“Madison?” he snarls. “Shut up and suck my cock. I’ll improvise.”

“Thank God.” I like the way he feels in my mouth, so hard and velvety soft. The way it glides in and out.

I trace the veins on the underside with my tongue, and he groans as his hand slides down my back and under my waistband.

“No underwear,” I pant. “Remember?”

“Tell me a secret?”

“Um …?” I stop to think.

“With your mouth,” he says as his finger rubs the crack of my behind.

I roll my eyes at the stupidity, and he winks.

“Right.”

He pulls me toward him and his finger rubs between my lips—electric.

I moan, and he hisses. His finger pushes inside of me and immediately hits the spot that makes me tremble. I stroke him faster, take him deeper.

“I’m gonna come sooner rather than later if you don’t slow it down,” he growls.

I don’t slow down. I can’t. I want to taste his cum. I want it so badly.

Another finger slides in as he rubs faster, harder, stretching me more.

I feel my body tense, and the knot in my belly forms, followed by heat everywhere.

“Give it to me, sweet thing,” he groans out as his thumb presses against my clit.

I cry out then feel hot jets shooting into my throat. I close my mouth around him as we come together. Then I lick him slowly, cleaning, stroking, savoring.

“You like my cum, don’t you?”

I pull my mouth away as he slides his fingers out of me.

Before I can answer, he licks his fingers. “You’re such a sweet, sweet thing.”

“Is that what you meant when you called me sweet thing and not that I was actually
sweet
?” I gasp.

His lips curl up at the corner, and he shrugs. “Take it any way you want it.”

I sit back and buckle my seatbelt. He reaches over and clasps his hand on my knee, rubbing his thumb slowly up and down.

I look over to see he is still fully erect and isn’t bothering to cover himself.

I have to fight not to reach over and stroke him again. Instead, I rest my hand on his forearm and sit back.

“Thirty minutes,” he grumbles.

I give his arm a squeeze, hoping to reassure him.

“Do me a favor?” he asks.

I look over at him and nod.

“Book us a room.”

“Of course.”

“One bed,” he says with a nod.

“One bed,” I agree.

“Sleep until we get there.”

“I don’t need to. I’m fine.”

“Madison?”

“Billy?”

“I plan on telling you secrets all night long, so please, get some sleep.”

“Promises, promises.” I giggle.

He shakes his head. “We’re fuck buddies, not roommates. We won’t be sleeping.”

“Fuck buddies,” I say with a grin.

“Fuck buddies and secrets.” He winks.

I let go of his hand to grab my phone.

I get out of the car and walk around as Madison gets out.

“Feel free to go to the hotel. I can catch a cab,” I tell her, expecting that is what she will do.

“I’m going in with you. I am here as a friend to support you, Billy.”

“It’s not at all necessary.” I shrug. “I would actually prefer it if you didn’t. Go shower and be in bed when I …” I stop when she walks away from me toward the entry.

I don’t want her to meet him. How fucked up is it my new fuck buddy—the sister of one of the men he fucked over, one of my friends who will hate me very soon—is actually here with me? And I can’t be the bigger man and make her go away. Fuck, this morning, I was the one who went after her.

She said she wouldn’t hate me, but I know damn well she will. Just like
they
will, and I won’t blame them.

What a mess, what a fucking mess he has made, and I just made it worse. Why? Because Billy Jeffers let loose and ended up fucking one Madison Black. One lick and that was all she wrote. It became something I was desperate to have again.

I watch her stop and turn around. She waves me to her, and damn if I don’t comply.

What the fuck is she doing to me?

Better question, what the fuck is it going to do to her?

I walk in beside her, and she looks up at me. “Everything is gonna be fine.” Then she links her pinky around mine, and I allow it because I’m a selfish fuck.

I look at my phone and open my mom’s text.

As we stand in front of the elevator, she hits the up arrow.

“Fourth floor, room four-twenty-seven,” I read aloud.

“You think we could hit the bathroom first?” she asks, looking over her shoulder at me.

“Of course. Wouldn’t want you to piss your pants.”

She slugs me in the arm. “That’s one of those things that should not be talked about.”

I nod. “Understood.”

“Do you look like your dad or your mom?” she asks almost excitedly.

“I’m not really sure.” I sure as hell hope I don’t act like either.

“Well, what do they say?”

“About?”

“You know, ‘oh, he has my eyes,’ or ‘he has my hair color.’ ”

I shrug. “I never paid much attention.”

“So you have always been this … in your head type of person?”

I yawn and cover my mouth. “I suppose, yes.”

I look straight ahead, knowing she is looking at me. I need to concentrate.

I had four hours to figure out how I’m going to deal with him, but my new friend, fuck buddy—the girl I share
secrets
with, the one who two days ago was the bane of my existence—has me all sorts of fucked up.

The elevator door opens, and she grabs my hand.

“Madison.” I pull my hand away, and for a fleeting moment, I see hurt in her eyes. “Our secret, remember?”

“Of course.” She smiles at me like she does everyone else when I am around. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not, though.

Fuck.

We stop at the nurses’ station and one of them looks up.

“I’m here to see William Jeffers.”

She smiles and nods. “The rock star son.”

I hate that he brags about me, but more importantly, I hate that I wonder what exactly he thinks he will get out of me now.

Three days ago, I wanted to be just like him. Now, my eyes are open, and I see my past mistakes, the things I just let slip. And then he did this … They both did this.

“Sure is,” Madison answers for me.

I look down at her, and she gives me a sad smile.

“I’m sure he’s fine, Billy.”

“Your mother is in the room with him now. Only two visitors are allowed at a time,” the nurse says.

“I’ll be over here.” Madison points to a waiting area. “Can you direct me to a bathroom first?”

“Head back the way you came, but go left. You’ll see the signs.”

“Come with?”

“You need me to?”

“Well, no, but you should go to the bathroom and wash your hands,” she whispers the last part then walks away.

I stand outside room 427, trying to calm myself. Half of me thinks I shouldn’t have let Madison come in with me since I clearly can’t focus on anything else when she is around, not anymore.

I walk in to find my mother sitting beside my dad, holding his hand. They both turn and look at me.

“You’re here.” My mother smiles as she jumps up and comes over to hug me.

“Of course I am,” I remark, looking over her at my father.

“Hey, sport.” He nods. “All I had to do was end up in the hospital to get the attention of my famous rock star son, huh?”

“Oh, William,” my mother scolds, pulling away, walking back over to him, and taking her spot next to … him.

“Do you have the test results?”

My mother replies, “They think—”

“They are keeping me overnight and hooked up to all these blasted wires and tubes. We should know more tomorrow.”

I nod and walk over to lean against the windowsill.

“Mom mentioned you brought a friend?” he asks, looking at me.

“My brothers,” I say because I am in the mood to push some buttons, “in the band insisted I don’t go alone, so Memphis’s sister, Madison, offered to drive.”

“You let a woman drive?” He snorts.

“She’s a good driver.”

My mom smiles at him like he hangs the moon. “Behave, William.”

“Well, I would like to meet her.”

There is no way in hell I am going to let that happen.

“Only two people are allowed in the room at a time.”

“I can go out. I need to stretch my legs, anyway.” Mom puts her hand on his heart. “I haven’t left this one’s side.”

“Now that Billy boy is here…” I cringe when he says that. I always hated it and hate it even more now. “I think you should go and get some rest.”

“Oh, William, I just couldn’t.”

“We don’t know what we’re facing tomorrow. I want you rested.”

She shakes her head, but he nods.

“I insist.”

I swear there is no other woman I have met in my life who could turn on waterworks the way my mother can. I thought Madison was doing the same thing when she bit her tongue. Clearly, I was wrong.

“Do you really trust this girl’s driving?” my dad asks.

“Of course I do,” I answer, not telling him she has a lead foot and makes a horribly distracting passenger.

“Do you think she would drive Mommy home? I would prefer her not to take a cab.”

Other than my father, or the father of a young child, I have never heard a man refer to his wife as Mommy.

“Your vehicle’s not here?” I ask.

“Of course not. She rode in the ambulance with me.”

I take a deep breath, and my mother immediately asks, “Is everything okay, Billy?”

“I’ll walk you out,” I tell her.

“You’ll be back in the morning, Billy boy?” Dad asks.

“I’m actually gonna stay for a while. I’ll be back. Let’s go, Mom.”

“That’s not necessary, son,” he calls behind me.

“I would surely appreciate it if you’d stay with Daddy for a while,” my mom says as we walk out into the hallway.

I nod, and we stop at the nurses’ station on our way out.

“I’m being forced to go home.” My mother actually pouts.

“He’s fine,” the older nurse tells her with confidence. “We’ll monitor him tonight, but we’re very sure it was an anxiety attack.”

“He works too hard,” Mother says.

My blood boils.
Fucking anxiety attack
? I bet.

“You’ll be with him, right?” She squeezes my arm and then links hers in mine.

“Yes,” I answer.

We walk silently down the sterile-smelling corridor toward the waiting room. Before we even enter, I see Madison pacing back and forth, biting her fingernails.

She stops and turns as she sees us approach.

She takes in a deep breath then gives a very sweet, somewhat innocent, and very un-Madison-like smile.

“Aren’t you adorable!” My mother smiles at her and opens her arms.

In three … two … one … cue the tears.

“Thank you so much for keeping him company during this horrible time for our family,” Mom says as tears roll down her face.

“Oh,” Madison gasps as my mom hugs her. She looks up at me, her eyes full of sadness. Her lower lip quivers, and she closes her eyes and hugs my mom back. “I’m so sorry. We really tried to get here in time.” She hugs Mom more tightly, and I see a tear fall. Oh, hell.
