Oh fuck, not this. Not yet.
Darryl was eye to eye with me now. I held firm, because I saw no other option. His gaze strode over my chest like the needle that had inked me up.
“What the fuck is wrong with you Meg?” he roared down. “How the fuck are you dating a Nazi?”
“Darryl what the hell are you talking about?”
His finger trembled just off my skin. “‘88’. You don’t know what that means? It translates to HH. Heil motherfucking Hitler.”
I bared my teeth to this man who had disturbed our solace. The I felt a tiny hand take mine and the fight left me. She tugged my chest towards her so she could see, and I couldn’t do much but to follow. I found her eyes trembling as they had before, but not with lust. They swam over my tattoos, then slowly rose to meet my gaze. I had looked into that beautiful face so many times this past week, slept thinking about its inky dark warmth, but there was only coldness there now.
“Vaughn?” She gulped for air, then went on. “Is he right?”
I sighed and let the truth come crashing down on us. “He ain’t wrong.”
