Rafe
pulled out from her. “No! Rafael, stay, stay!” she screamed. Her pussy was on
fire. Her need for him inside of her was so acute she could not see. Only feel.
He grabbed her hips roughly and flipped her over onto the soft loamy ground.
She lay splayed on her back, her thighs parted, her body undulating wildly out
of control.

She
looked up into Rafael’s stormy face. His eyes blazed, his chest heaved, his
glistening red cock jutted arrogantly toward her. He crawled over her, his cock
and balls hanging heavy between his legs. Falon grabbed him, reveling in the
power of his sex. She raised her hips and guided him into her. He thrust high
inside her, his heavy balls slapping against her ass. “Rafa,” she cried.

He
thrust harder. Deeper. “Is that what you wanted, Falon? To know what it was
like?”

Unable
to speak, she could only nod.

“Was
it all that you expected?”

“Yes,”
she gasped.

“Do
you want me to shift, to feel my beast inside of your woman?”

The
suggestion of such a thing was so taboo, her cheeks flushed. He thrust again.
Falon shook her head. “I want you like this.” If this was the last time they
would be together, she wanted to remember the man she fell in love with. She
raised her knees higher, giving him more access to her.

“Let
go, Falon. Let go like you have never let go before.”

She
ached at the realization that he mirrored her own fear that this could be their
last time together. Falon obeyed her alpha. “I love you, Rafael. I love you
with every breath I take.”

He
gathered her up into his arms and claimed her lips with a deep, soul-scorching
kiss. Falon wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him so close their
heartbeats thudded in perfect harmony. As one their passion spiraled up and out
of control, then released them both at the same time, for the hard,
earth-shattering drop into sexual oblivion.

For
nearly an hour, they lay on their backs, their bodies steaming, their breaths
unable to stabilize, and their yearning for the other no more quenched than
when they ran up the mountain hours ago. It would never be quenched, Falon
realized.

Rafael
rolled over and kissed her forehead, her eyelids, her nose, and finally her
mouth. “It’s time to return, my love.”

Falon
closed her eyes. “I don’t want to go back there.”

He
laughed, though there was not much joy in it. “We must.” He stood and hoisted
her up.

They
began the return home, hand in hand, and despite the great wolf sex and human
sex, nothing had changed Falon’s mind. If anything, she was more determined.
“Rafael, my way will work.”

He
let out a long breath. “I could not live with myself if you succumb to Lucien’s
vengeance.”

She
stopped and faced him. She placed her hands on either side of his face, holding
him a captive audience. “Have faith in my abilities and determination, Rafa. I
swear it—we will be together on the eve of the rising. It is our destiny.”

Finally,
she saw him waver. She pushed for victory. “I will not live without you if I
don’t have to.” She nipped his chin. “Believe it and be it. It will happen.”

“You
are asking me to give my sanction to murder my brother because though I swore
to accept the verdict, you won’t.”

“Not
murder, Rafe. I have no part in your blood feud. My only crime is being in the
wrong place at the wrong time that night at Del’s. Do not underestimate me. I
will defend myself. I will kill before I am killed.”

He
nodded in understanding, though she knew it cost him to acquiesce. He would
never forgive himself if she didn’t survive. So she would have to see that she
did. She smiled and hugged him. “Now, let’s hope this is all for naught.”

Dawn
came too swiftly. As they had at dusk, everyone converged in the great room.

Rafael
watched the council’s faces for a “tell” as they filed in. They refused to look
at him or any of his pack. Trepidation shivered along his spine and with it,
the beast roused. Falon was oddly quiet, reserved. He was anxious. Lucien stood
across the room from him, his gaze locked on the council. The council refused
to look at him as well.

As
the elders sat, Maleek remained standing. The room was tombstone quiet. He
looked across the room, his eyes settling first on Rafael then Falon then on
Lucien. “Lucien Mondragon, Rafael Vulkasin, and Falon Vulkasin, please approach
the dais.”

Hand
in hand, Rafael and Falon approached as did Lucien to their left. Rafael
between his brother and his woman.

Maleek
opened a leather scroll. “After careful consideration of all the facts
presented here, the council has come to a verdict.”

Everyone
in the room held their breath. Maleek looked at Falon. “Before I render our
decision, understand that while you, Falon Vulkasin, have proven to be an
invaluable asset to the Lycan nation, it had no bearing on our verdict. Our
verdict was based on the facts presented and what would be fair and righteous
considering the impasse we find ourselves in the midst of.”

He
cleared his throat and read, “It is the decision of this council that Falon
Vulkasin’s life be spared.” Cheers erupted around them. Lucien snarled.

Falon
gasped, clasping Rafael’s hands. Joy exploded in Rafael’s chest. It hit him
with the velocity of a fist. He could scarcely breathe, he was so overcome.

“The
council could not determine if Lucien’s chosen one was in fact a Slayer, but
Rafael believed she was. Although he cannot prove it, Rafael Vulkasin is a
Lycan reputed for his honesty, and with such a reputation, the council gives
him the benefit of the doubt.”

Falon’s
body shook with excitement beside him. Rafael wanted to pick her up in his arms
and dance.

“However,
Lucien Mondragon’s claim cannot be ignored. Therefore, the council grants
Lucien full blood rights to Falon Vulkasin with the understanding she is not to
be harmed in any way, and if she is, Rafael has the right to avenge her.”

Shocked
gasps rent the air. Rafael stood stunned, unable to comprehend what he just
heard. As the verdict registered, in that one moment in time, his heart
shattered, and all hope for his future crashed and burned.

Falon’s
fingers dug into his hands; her body shook violently.

“Lucien
Mondragon, if you choose not to accept Falon Vulkasin as your chosen one, then
she is free to remain with Rafael.”

Lucien
looked as stunned as the rest of them.

“Do,
you, Lucien Mondragon, understand that if you choose to take Falon Vulkasin as
your own chosen one, in so doing you agree to give her all the rights due an
alpha’s true mate?”

Lucien
turned his bright golden eyes on Falon. His face remained impassive. But when
his gaze rested on his brother, his lips quirked. He turned back to the
council, then hoarsely said, “I do.”

Then
all hell broke loose.
