I took a few short, stumbling steps towards Ronan and he caught me in his arms, holding me tighter than ever before. Even with how sore I was from my hours of captivity, it was the best feeling I'd ever known. Garret and Terry still had their guns drawn on
Nitty. Ronan's attention was elsewhere now. He pulled the gag down past my chin and started to say a word but before he could, I kissed him. That was all that needed to be said.

"So what'll we do with the yank, here," Garret asked. Ronan was still holding me tight, watching
Nitty
out of the corner of his eye. Terry stepped forwards to take charge of the situation.

"I'll take care of it," Terry said. "Stick around, Garret. Ronan, get her out of here." I wasn't used to seeing Ronan ordered around like that, and I knew that he hated having his father making so
much as a suggestion as to what he should be doing at any given moment, but right then I knew it was the best advice possible. If Ronan had stayed in that room one second longer, I don't think anyone would have been able to stop him from tearing that man limb from limb. Maybe he deserved it. I can't say.
But I know one thing - I didn't want Ronan to carry the memory of what he'd done that day with anything less than pride. Rescuing me was something to feel good about. Whatever he had done after I was safe... that would be a different story.

Ronan untied my wrists and gave Nitty
one last hard look before we walked together to the door of the factory. Behind us, Garret and Terry stood, still as statues. I didn't know what Terry had planned, but it didn't matter. I didn't care what memories he had to carry in his heart. We exited the factory and Ronan led me through the parking lot. Around the corner of the building, their three bikes were
parked,
out of sight from the main drive way. I wondered how long they'd been watching the place before Vic had returned with the food.

As soon as we turned the corner, it felt like the weight of the situation vanished. Even though the gag was still hanging around my neck and the place where the rope had cut into my wrists was aching, it felt miles away already. I held Ronan's hand tightly and pulled him to face me.

"Cat," he said, "I'm so sorry. I never should have left you... I should have..."

"Stop," I told him, putting my finger to his lips. "You did just what you should have. When I needed you most, you came to get me.
That's
what you should have done and you did it."

He held me tightly and I could feel the way his hands were shaking. I'd never seen fear in him before, and I'm still not sure if that's what I was seeing then. Someone had threatened to take me from him and I'd gotten to see how he reacted. It was terrifying and beautiful all at once.

"Ronan," I suddenly blurted out, holding him away from me, "Is Lila okay?! Back at the apartment, she-"

"She's fine," he interrupted. "They just knocked her cold is
all.
She's worried sick about you though. Kept
sayin' that she felt awful for letting them take you, as if there's anything she could have done against them. Woman's ninety pounds, soaking wet."

I laughed, happier than I could have imagined myself being for the safety of a woman I'd met less than 24 hours earlier.

"I already called Darren," he said, "He says he's going to take her out of the city until this is all finished. I told them that when I got you back, I would be sending you along with them."

"But... you're... what?" I asked, confused.

"I love you, Cat," he said, holding his warm hands against mine. "But it's not safe here for you. They tried to take you once and I can't say they won't try it again. Until we win this fight, you'll be safer somewhere else. Darren said the three of you can take to the beach for a few weeks
is all."

I smiled at that and tears began to streak from my eyes once again. I suppose I was going to get the vacation I'd been dreaming of after all, even if the circumstance were a bit more like witness protection that I'd been hoping for. I bent forward to kiss him and felt his lips warm and full against mine. When he'd left that morning, I was happy to be here in Belfast with Ronan. I never thought I'd be so happy that he was sending me away. It wasn't just for my safety, either. It was for
his own
sanity. This man who cared for me so deeply that he was willing to risk his life for me would stop at nothing to protect me. I knew that now. That meant I had to do what I could to keep myself from harm as well. If it took a beach vacation to keep his mind at
ease, that was a sacrifice I was certainly willing to make.

He mounted his bike and I got on the back of it with him, holding myself as close to him as I ever had before. It would be strange to spend so much time away from him. Ever since I'd met the Druids, I seemed to spend nearly 24 hours a day in Ronan's presence.

"You'll come and visit at the beach," I said. I realized halfway through saying it that it was a statement, not a question. He noticed the difference as well and leaned his head back to smile at me.

"Yes, ma'am," he said and his smile turned into a grin.

He started the bike and we rode off onto the streets of Belfast, leaving the factory and the horrors it contained far behind. The events of that day had brought me to a place I never thought I'd go. I'm not talking about the factory, either. The place of fear that I visited - a place of uncertainty, where you don't know if you'll see another day - is not something I would wish on anyone.
I had my shining knight to protect me though. When he'd set out on this journey, he said he was fighting this war for me. Now it was more than just sentiment. The men who had taken me were just agents of a much greater force. Ronan and the Druids were ready to fight them, though. For me, for Daisy, for Lila and for themselves, the Druids would triumph here. Doubt is a powerful force that can distort our minds and poison our thoughts. What happened to me in Belfast has cleared the shade of doubt from my mind. Ronan was more than just my biker
boyfriend,
he was the man who would always be there for me.

As we rode off towards the apartment to gather my things so I could leave his presence, I didn't feel any apprehension. I knew that wherever I went and whatever I did, we would find each other. He would defend me and I would defend him. I held him close and felt the strength inside his body, knowing that if necessary I would be able to harness my own strength. I would stand up against anything for our love and now I knew he would do the same.
