NOTES
PREFACE

Casanova's twelve-volume
Histoire de Ma Vie
has appeared in countless editions. All quotations from it in this book are taken from the original French text, published in 1993 by Robert Laffont/Bouquins in a three-volume paperback edition, edited by Francis Lacassin. For simplicity, references in the endnotes refer to HDMV, followed by the Bouquins volume number (I, II, or III) followed by the page number in that volume.
