Chapter 31
Dontay How Much
The wedding was only a couple of days away and I'd been spending my days grinding like crazy looking for work or a loan. And trying to ignore the guilt that stayed with me over what happened on that boat. Visions of Bear on his knees between my legs made my stomach capsize in on itself. When I'd gone back onto the outer deck Toi was clueless about what I'd done. I wasn't into that shit it was just the fuckin' crack. I can't even believe I did that shit.
I pulled up to the house and took a deep breath to prepare myself. Toi swung open the frosted glass door in her pink house coat, matching fluffy pink slippers sipping what had to be her fourth pink cosmo. She always wanted to fuck or fight when she drank and I had no idea from the expression on her face which one she was in the mood for.
“You take my car all damn day and you don't think to call?” Toi snapped at me the second my foot hit the porch.
I rubbed the knotted muscles in the back of my neck trying not to get irritated with her. I was flipping through the best way to answer her without making an even bigger deal out of the situation. Seriously, she just gave a nigga a boat; now I couldn't use the car? She needed to keep tabs on my every move?
“Toi, I've been pulling extra hours trying to make sure we can do this dream wedding. I didn't know you'd use everything I gave you on the surgery.” I lied.
Her tone softened. “There was the funeral too. I'm sorry.”
“It's all right. I'll work something out.”
I kept my tone cool scoopin' Toi up into my arms. She was so damn short it was nothing to grab her up making her my temporary hostage. I nuzzled my nose into the curve of her neck. “I thought you'd be okay since you were driving that nigga's Beemer.”
I was referring to the red BMW 345i that had miraculously appeared in our driveway one day. I breathed a mental sigh of relief as the tension melted out of her body and she relaxed in my arms.
“He said I can keep the Beemer or borrow the Lex for as long as I want. But I still need to hear somethin' from you whether you have my car or not. That you're alive and you're okay. That you still love me.” Toi pouted up at me and I wished for that moment that I wasn't torn between starting this new chapter of my life. She wasn't making it easy for me to continue our story though. Granted Reverend had this crazy pyramid investment crack scheme going on. I couldn't tell if he was trying to recruit me or steal my woman. Every time I turned around she was flaunting new shit in my face with a Reverend Matthews thank-you card. And the gifts kept coming even after I got off that boat turning after turning down him and his hand outs.
“I told you to leave his ass alone. I'm not gonna keep doing this. We can call the wedding off right now.” I glared over my eyebrows at her reminding her for the hundredth time.
Her eyes darkened from their usual glittering peach-pit brown into shimmery snifters of warm brandy like the Paul Masson she loved to slip in her tea. Toi never had an answer when it came to talks about her leaving her current sugar daddy. I set her down and followed her into the house. She was looking fine as ever in a little black dress held together by all these gold chains.
First thing that crossed my mind was a relaxing, long, hot shower tellin' her how much I missed her. The only thing that stood between all of that was the family I'd started and Toi's unwillingness to cut off the old head she had taking care of her. Her place smelled like warm sunsets, sweet pineapples, and coconut piña colada. I looked around: no toys, no coloring books, no Jada.
“Where's Jada? I thought you were going to pick her up from your aunt's while I was at work.”
“I didn't have my car.” Toi pouted like a spoiled seven-year-old.
“The Beemer been sitting out there all day.”
“I don't like red. I wanted my car.”
I jabbed the air. Something told me I shouldn't have let her people tell Eva's sister CPS had Jada. Eva was probably worrying herself to death thinking the worst about her. I just didn't want any of her family scoping me out or tracking me down after the sentencing and they would have started with Jada.
I glared at Toi and she silently stepped aside. I sat myself on our brand new ugly velvet gray couch. The material was the color of wet cement with pleats along the back. It instantly brought the inside of a coffin to my mind and I tried to focus on something else. A deep gold throw rug lay on top the dark gray carpet and gold armchairs sat on either side of us. I tried not to make sense out of the gray and gold color scheme. The gold stuff was all new; it definitely wasn't here when I'd left this morning and an instant wave of jealousy went through me. Good old Reverend Matthews aka her sugar daddy was laying it on extra thick.
Damn, so she's fittin' us in like that in twenty
-
four hours?
I sneered at her and her stupid color scheme. It was like trying to warm up slate with fake sunshine. Women definitely did some strange shit when it came to decorating themselves and their houses with colors. I heard chicks all the time sayin' men were color blind.
Nah, y'all just color confused.
“I see you got some new ugly-ass shit up in here. Your other nigga drop it off for you?” I couldn't keep the anger out of my voice, didn't try to either.
“Dontay, since you've been layin' up in here, have you put any new shit up in here other than your stank shoes?” Toi stood her small self over me with her hand on her hip. “Until you are doing more than driving the gas out my car and bringing it back damn near on E, don't say shit about what someone else does or doesn't do for me.”
“Toikea.” I used her full first name so she'd know I wasn't playing. “Why would I break myself and offer to do anything if another motherfucka is gonna be rolling up in here reaping the benefits? You already got a nigga taking care of you. You want me to go broke payin' for you too, just like my pops did?” Adrenaline made me pop up off the couch. “I gotta pay for my woman now? Tell me how much the pussy cost, Toi? Another house, another car? Oh, wait you want a boat, boo? How many cars can you drive at one time, Toi?” I pulled my paper out my pocket and flipped it off the palm of my hand: hundreds, twenties, ones. “Is this enough for your time tonight, ma'am?” Every dime I had left to my name was now littered across her floor like trash.
Her ice-cold cosmo splashed me across my face burning my eyes. The palm of her hand connected hard with my wet cheek, and my head snapped ever so slightly. That small, involuntarily movement made me see red. I blinked, furious that she'd even dare touch me; grabbing Toi by the shoulders I flung her little ass onto the couch. It rocked with the force of her landing on it. My pulse throbbed in my forehead, my face hurt, and my hands clenched into fists against her skin. Black mascara streaked tears ran down her cheeks and I loosened my grip. I couldn't, wouldn't ever hurt a woman. That was my pops; that wasn't me.
Toi kicked me hard as fuck in the stomach. I grunted and went from being on top to lying in the floor on my back. She'd done some kind of Jackie Chan stunt roll off the couch landing on my chest. Glass shattered dangerously close to the side of my head and I winced.
“Tell momma you're sorry, Dontay,” Toi whispered against my skin; her cosmo-scented breath warmed the skin on the side of my neck.
What I could only imagine to be a shard from the glass was pressed against my pulse on the other side. I took in a shallow breath when it pricked my skin. My hands went into the universal “please don't kill me” position in the air.
“Baby, I'm sorry,” I whispered.
Toi's hips wound into my groin, her teeth grazed my skin from my neck up until she was she nibbling at my chin and I forgot how to breathe.
“Tell momma what you're sorry for,” she demanded still holding that damn piece of glass.
Blood warmed my skin, tickled and itched as it trickled its way down my neck, making my brain go into a confused panic. I could barely move my lips. “Bae, I'm sorry I disrespected you, I ain't mean it. You know I love you. You know I . . .”
Toi ran the tip of her tongue up the side of my neck licking that itch right up to the source of the wound she'd just inflicted. My brain stopped dead in its tracks; the hamster fainted on the wheel. She trailed her lips up to mine and I was dizzy from the adrenaline rush, ready to do some damage of my own. I was feeling like I'd drunk a gallon of the sweet cosmos I could taste on her tongue mingling with the unmistakable taste of my own blood. If that wasn't the sexiest fuckin' shit in the world I didn't know what was. Crazy as hell but sexy.
Everything I knew about love and making love I'd learned from Toi and she'd just stepped shit up to a level no one could ever compete with. I was careful to slide the shard of glass out of her fingers just as easily as I slid her out of her pink housecoat. I treated her like my personal buffet tasting every bit of skin I uncovered. She tasted like jasmine, warm violets, and carnations, like Gucci Rush on shower fresh skin.
She started running her nails over my abs underneath my shirt and the muscles tightened out of reflex. My other muscle started to tighten and swell, too. She frowned up at me pouting her lips.
“Dontay, can we do something new tonight?” she asked dragging her nails lower and lower.
What the hell else could be newer than what just happened?
My eyes drifted downward and I got ready to watch some nail porn. Toi's nails was always on point. I'm talkin' about French manicure, French American manicure, it didn't matter. Eva had nails but she ain't never paint 'em or make 'em pretty. I never understood how important it was for a woman to have nice nails until this chick wit' Don Cheadle nubs grabbed my dick and I looked down and yelped. It was like seeing one of my homeboy's hands stroking my business. Not cool.
She had two lit candles on either side of the bed and they had the room smelling like warm pears and butter cream frosting. I laid her down on her stomach and took my time removing my own clothes. My hands were ice cold. I was scared as hell that I'd slip and cut or scratch her up. But that's exactly what she wanted. She got up on her knees and begged for me run the broken glass along her back. Toi purred and growled; it made these ugly red slashes across her skin.
All of that ass sat perfectly up in the air looking like the top half of a thick “come fuck me” heart.
See now that's exactly why dudes be fallin' in love. Get a chick who just toot it up and we be back there seein' hearts. Eva could have definitely used some notes from one of these seasoned broads.
When I couldn't take it anymore I made her hit that first-stroke note. Some chicks moan so loud their voice cracks, or they let out a sharp surprised gasp. Toi did a combination of the two and I loved it. I realized that I loved her had been in love with her all along. I loved Eva but I'd made a mistake and even though my heart hurt at the thought of leaving her all Toi had to do was say a word or make a sound.
She was breathless now, gasping and grabbing the sheets. I tangled my fingers in her short hair pulling her head back so I could control her arch, make her take me deeper.
“This is my pussy, it bends, stretches and only cums for me.”
I flipped her on her back folding her legs like a pretzel in front of me. My fingers were wrapped tight around her ankles. I let her feel the tip before she raked her nails across the sides of my back begging me to vent all my pent-up anger. Closing my eyes I slammed into her over and over; her body shuddered and her climax made me explode.

Toi was dozing off on my chest while I traced the shape of her nose with my eyes. It was my mission to make her leave whoever her other nigga was.
“What in God's name is this?” someone shouted, flipping on the lights. I must have dozed off. I woke up momentarily disoriented. I looked for Eva and Jada's crib before I remembered where I was.
“Daddy, what are you doing here?” Toi shouted pulling half the blankets with her.
“Toikea, I told your mother I'd take care of you before she passed. Now, I don't ask nor do I expect a lot from you but no daughter of mine will be running around with some jobless Negro half her age who's barely taking care of his own family,” Reverend Matthews shouted.
“Wait what, did you call this nigga Daddy? Toikea, why didn't you just tell me this was your pops?” I knew exactly why as soon as the words left my mouth. Old Rev didn't want to mess up his crooked house. He had more skeletons than I did. I let him feel the full brunt of my rage. “Nigga, I take care of all mine. I don't jerk off or get power crazy over a nigga suckin' another nigga dick either I'm more man than your cracked-out ass,”
“My daughter will not marry any man who is so weak he'll
drop his guard and let
another man suck his dick, Dontay.”
Toi who was staring at me wide-eyed.
Reverend Matthews glared at me. “You didn't look so manly with another man's lips wrapped around your li'l willie with your soon-to-be fiancée in the next room.” He turned to leave and spun back around on his heel sneering as he looked me up and down.
“Who was he trying to show off for? It wasn't me!” I snapped back, launching off the bed without thinking about where I was or who he was. I didn't mean to but nobody insults a man's pride, family, and his dick all in one breath and thinks he's gonna just walk away.
He was not a small dude by any means. We locked up midair and when we landed he had my naked ass in a full nelson with both my arms pinned back behind my head.
