Hearing her say it like this, no pretense, no jokes, made his heart seem to swell, let him know that this was different; this was forever. “I love you too.” He kissed her thumb.

Astrid rested both arms behind her head. “You're still kind of an arse sometimes.”

Eli couldn't help but laugh. “Maybe I am. Still want me?”

She smiled. “I guess I can get used to it. It might take a while, though. Maybe a lifetime.”

Rolling over, he gathered her into his arms. “I think we have that long.”
