When she realized
with a slight chuckle that it wasn’t, she gazed back at him, confused. Ty
stared back at her, his heart in his eyes and a nervous smile curving his lips.
“Marry me,” he said.
Sherrie gasped in
shock, and after a silent moment, was unable to do anything but nod. She
couldn’t speak through the lump in her throat, so she nodded several more
times, not wanting him to think the wrong thing. Tears threatened to spill. Ty
chuckled, reaching up to cup her face in his hands, moving her face closer to
capture her lips for a breathtaking kiss.
Sherrie threw her
arms around him and squeezed him as hard as she dared.
Ty got up to get some
wine, or so he said, but he came back with more than that. She stared in utter
shock at the two carat, square cut diamond sitting on the shoulders of a
platinum band. Smaller stones were embedded around it, and she couldn’t stop
staring at how it sparkled from the firelight. It took her breath away.
Ty slipped the ring
on her finger. Tears slid over her cheeks and she couldn’t find the right words
to thank him. It felt like a dream. She didn’t ever want to wake up. Ty
gathered her in his arms and kissed her passionately, demanding her response.
When he pulled away to gaze into her eyes, she struggled to speak. After
everything she’d been through, trying to do her best while watching Ty from a
distance, now he wanted her to be his wife.
“Ty…I…I would love to
marry you. Thank you for this beautiful ring.” Sherrie couldn’t risk saying
more as another lump formed in her throat when he smiled, his love for her
shining bright in his eyes.
He brushed away her
tears with his thumbs, and gave her one of his crooked grins, raising his eyebrows
in the comical way he knew always made her giggle. “I hope you don’t think
we’re dancing like that at our wedding.”
Sherrie laughed
through her tears and kissed him.
