Rebecca took his hand and smiled at him, tears of relief and joy gathering in her eyes. “What was it called in Hawaii?”

Max looked up at the ceiling and closed his eyes with a pained grimace. “To The Max.”

Rebecca tried to hold in the laughter but failed miserably. She dropped his hand and covered her mouth as she attempted to cover her mirth with a cough.

“You think that’s funny, do you?” He advanced toward her and Rebecca backed up, her hands held out in front of her. He said grimly, “Yeah, someone else got a kick out of it too.”

Rebecca laughed harder at the forbidding look on his face. How could he be so
serious
about it? “I’m sorry,” she choked out, wiping her eyes and making an effort to stop the giggles still escaping.

He caught her then, pulling her flush against his body and leaned down until his face was level with hers. “I’m free,” he whispered. “Sort of. I can’t promise that I’ll be easy to deal with. Who I’ve been…what I’ve done…” He swallowed and closed his eyes. “I can’t take that back, and I wouldn’t if I could.”

“Max—”

“Let me finish,” he interrupted. “I’ve been working on this.” He took a deep breath and continued, “But I’m free now, and I want…I want things I’ve never wanted before. I can’t give you children. I had a vasectomy years ago. But I can give you a lot of other things if you’ll let me. I’ll be good to you, Rebecca, as good as I’m capable of being.”

She didn’t know what he’d meant by “sort of,” but she would find out later. She wanted to focus on the “free” part instead. Rebecca shushed him by placing a finger against his lips. Wordlessly, she pulled away and turned on the iPod sitting on the entertainment center. She scrolled down until she found the song she wanted and turned back to him, waiting.

When the first soft strains of music came through, Rebecca moved back into his arms.

“Dance with me,” she whispered.

He eyed her warily for a moment before stepping forward to embrace her. His arms circled her waist as they began to sway to the music. Rebecca laid her head on his chest and whispered the words of the song as the Pretenders sang about standing by someone, despite the darkness.

The heat of his body, his even breathing, the shuffle of his legs against hers, the brush of his erection against her stomach…Rebecca recorded everything in her mind. Even if he never left again, she wanted to remember this: this one moment where anything was possible as long as they were together. It was silly and romantic, but dammit, she’d never really had a stupid, sappy, romantic moment and she was going to enjoy it while it was happening.

His hands stroked up and down her back slowly and he rested his cheek against the top of her head.
Max.
It was a ridiculous name, but it was
his
and that made it exquisite.

Max’s hands tangled in her hair and tugged. Rebecca tilted her head back. He lowered his lips to hers slowly, as though he expected her to pull away.

Rebecca lifted on her tiptoes and gripped his shoulders to meet him. The kiss was gentle at first. Max stroked his tongue against hers reverently for long, wonderful moments. The song ended, and he pulled away.

His lips were moist from hers, glistening in the low light of the lamp. Rebecca pulled his head back to hers as the song—set to repeat—started over.

He resisted though, stopping just before their lips met. “I’m sorry they hurt you. I’m sorry I wasn’t there. I wanted to be…”

“I know. I understand.” Rebecca closed her eyes and whispered, “One life for many. I get it, I do. And I don’t blame you. Just…don’t let it happen again, okay?”

He smiled a little and closed his eyes. “Okay.”

“Max.” His eyes opened and Rebecca fell into the deep, dark pools. “If you don’t take me to bed right now, I’m going to turn on some faster music to dance to.”

He smiled again, and this time it reached his eyes. Rebecca’s heart liquefied at the tiny spark of happiness she saw there, the first she’d really seen in him.

“You got it, ginger.”

“Hey!” She squealed as he lifted her with his hands beneath her ass. “No calling me ginger!”

Max nuzzled her neck and said, “Whatever you say. Ginger.” He strode through the living room and into the bedroom.

Rebecca poked him in the ribs just before he tossed her on the bed. “Nobody calls me ginger. Nobody.”

He smiled at her again, that wilted little smile that broke her heart every time. “Have I ever told you that I’m a real sucker for a ginger?”

She giggled. It didn’t sound so bad when he said it like that. But still…“I mean it. No calling me ginger.” She tried to be serious, but he was being playful and that was so damn wonderful that she couldn’t manage it.

“Fine. I won’t call you ginger. Often.” Max stretched his body out on top of hers, his weight pressing her into the mattress, and his erection jutting against her thigh.

Rebecca wrapped her arms around his neck and lifted her lips for a kiss. After several seconds of waiting she opened her eyes to find him watching her.

“What?” She tried to tug him down for her kiss but Max resisted.

“I, uh…” He looked away.

“Don’t stutter, just say it.” He blushed and Rebecca watched in amazement as his cheeks turned pink. What could possibly make
him
blush?

“I’m less than two minutes from coming.” He didn’t look at her, focused instead somewhere around her left ear. “That dance out there…I kept thinking about the club. That dance…fuck, Rebecca.” Max buried his face in her neck.

Rebecca smiled. Good to know she’d made an impression. She didn’t respond at first, just stroked her hands down his back and pushed her leg against the hard bulge digging into her thigh. He grunted.

“Max.” Rebecca pushed at his shoulders until he lifted his head to watch her warily. “It’s okay.”

Rebecca pushed at him again until he lifted his body from hers and turned over onto his back. She sat beside him and let herself look at him.

“Take your clothes off,” she whispered.

“You first.” But he sat up and began tearing his clothes off anyway.

Rebecca smiled at his impatience, then frowned when his ravaged body came into view. A fresh wound marred his lower back, zigzagging through old scars and ending just above the waist of his pants. She inhaled sharply when she saw it. She hadn’t even known he was hurt. Max froze and Rebecca jerked her gaze from the marks that had been revealed and up to his eyes.

Max watched her, a guarded expression on his face. “I can turn the light off.” He waved toward the living room, where the lamplight spilled into the bedroom just enough for them to see. “I’m sorry, I…” He swallowed and looked away.

Rebecca remained silent and stood up to remove her clothes. Max didn’t look at her though, just rubbed his hands along his thighs and stared at the wall. When she crawled back onto the bed and slid her hands along his back, Max tensed.

“Shh,” she soothed. “I’ve got you. And these scars have no power over you anymore.” Rebecca straddled his back and settled her legs by his. She wrapped her arms around his chest and rested her head on his back. He was still stiff though, the edginess radiating from every pore.

“If they bother you…”

“It bothers me that you’ve been hurt so much.” Rebecca rubbed her cheek against his shoulder, the jagged line of some previous mutilation rough against her face. Tenderness filled her as Rebecca stroked her hands up and down his chest and shoulders. “I don’t want you to ever feel pain again,” she whispered, agonized at the thought.

Max turned suddenly, lurching out of her arms and yanking his pants down. His erection sprang free and Rebecca reached for it, wrapping her hand around him. He stepped forward until he stood between her legs, his engorged cock bobbing in front of her.

Rebecca didn’t hesitate, just wrapped her lips around him and sucked until she tasted the salty precum. With a pained groan, Max jerked himself away. He nudged her shoulders gently, urging her to lie back. When she did, he straddled her chest, his cock resting between her breasts.

“There’s something I’ve always wanted to do.” His voice was soft, low. “If you don’t want to, that’s fine. But I’ve always wondered…”

Rebecca giggled. She knew what he wanted. Sometimes she forgot that beneath the scars and toughness beat the heart of a typical man. “Knock yourself out, big boy.”

One side of his lips quirked up in a smile and he said, “Do you have any lube?”

“Top drawer,” Rebecca pointed toward her dresser. “Underneath the yoga pants.”

Max rolled off the bed and made his way to the dresser. Rebecca admired the view. Scars or not, he was finely made. He was packed with muscle, but wasn’t huge. He just looked…strong. Capable.

“Well that’s interesting.” He pulled out Rebecca’s blue-clawed vibrator.

Rebecca giggled and turned over with a moan. “Put it back! You weren’t supposed to plunder!”

“Well, at least I don’t feel insignificant.”

Rebecca opened one eye and peeped out. He was comparing size.
Oh God.
“Put it back and just get the lube!” She buried her face again, embarrassed to her very marrow.

“It says it’s waterproof.” Rebecca couldn’t look at him and kept her face buried in the pillow. “Isn’t that more of a requirement than an option?”

“Argh!” Rebecca muffled her scream in the pillow.

“One day you’ll have to show me how you use it.” Max’s voice was closer, and he nudged Rebecca gently. She rolled over onto her back, her eyes still closed. “Open your eyes.”

The bed dipped as he climbed back on and straddled her chest again. Rebecca blinked up at him as he squirted some of the lube into his hands. He rubbed his hands together to warm it and Rebecca smiled at the small consideration.

Then he began massaging her breasts, his hands hot and firm. Max pinched her nipples, his fingertips slipping because of the lubricant.
Slippery nipple. Ha.
Rebecca arched into his touch and moaned.

“Your breasts are so sensitive. Can you come that way?”

Rebecca moaned at the thought. It sounded fantastic, but completely unrealistic. “I don’t think so.” She panted as Max pushed her breasts together and squeezed both nipples at once.

“We’ll find out eventually.” He kneaded her breasts, staring at them as he squeezed and manipulated the weighty globes. “Goddammit, that’s sexy.” His voice was throaty, his eyes narrowed. “They’re…shiny.”

Rebecca whimpered. She was so turned on it was agonizing. But Max was too, as evidenced by the silky stream of precum dripping from the end of his dick.

“Max…” Rebecca whispered.

Max finally looked up at her, tearing his gaze from her breasts. “If you want me to stop, just say so. Promise?”

Rebecca nodded, ready for him to just
do it
already. “All right.”

He watched her for several moments, then satisfied with whatever he saw on her face, he nodded and pushed her breasts tightly together.

“Fuck.” He whispered the word as he probed the valley between her breasts with his erection. He slipped between them easily, plunging until Rebecca felt his testicles resting just beneath the bottom curves of her breasts. She tilted her head and looked down. The plush crown of his dick poked through between her breasts, just a few inches from her mouth.

Rebecca craned her neck and licked away the salty precum.

“Ahhh, Christ!” Max began driving his cock between her breasts then, over and over. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I can’t…oh fuck! That’s amazing. Your tits are so fucking perfect.”

His hands slid off her breasts and the tight tunnel he’d created widened. He groaned and Rebecca pushed them back together for him. This wasn’t nearly as good as sex for her, but it was obvious that Max loved it. And she wanted that for him, wanted him to love it enough that he lost it. She wanted to watch him come, just from fucking her tits. And Max looked close, had sped up the motions. His breathing was harsh, strained.

Since she was holding her breasts, Max pinched her nipples, tugging until they were erect and throbbing.

Finally, he let out a hoarse cry and slowed. Rebecca watched, craning her neck to avoid getting a facial, as semen gushed repeatedly from his cock. The creamy fluid hit her chest and neck as Max thrust above her, short grunts wrenching from his chest.

He slowed and gradually stopped. Breathing heavily, he said, “Dammit. I’m sorry. I knew I was too close for that.”

“It’s all right,” Rebecca murmured as he moved off her chest and stood by the bed.

Max hummed a little in his throat, a growling sound that sounded like a man well sated. Rebecca reached for him and opened her mouth to tell him it was her turn.

“Hang on. Let me get you cleaned up.” He spun on his heel and walked—a little wobbly—into the bathroom.

Rebecca heard running water for a few seconds before Max reappeared. He cleaned her gently, almost reverently, before giving a nervous little laugh.

“I really am sorry. I didn’t intend for that to happen.” He stood and tossed the washcloth through the bathroom door where it landed on the floor with a wet
plop.

Rebecca made a mental note to pick it up and put it in the hamper before she fell asleep.

“It was…kind of hot.” Rebecca grabbed his hand and pulled until he knelt beside her on the bed.

“It was unbelievable.” Max leaned down a kissed her lightly. “Thank you,” he whispered.

“You’re welcome. Now can I…?” Rebecca gestured toward her sex, where she still ached with need.

“Hell, yeah.”

* * * *

Fucking hell, he was already half-hard again, just from cleaning his cum off of her. It had been a paralyzing orgasm, watching her big tits surround his cock while he spurted and came on her chest. He still needed to make her come, at least a thousand times to repay the near-death experience he’d just had.

Max kissed her, her lips and tongue desperate against his. He tried to slow her down, but Rebecca was having none of that. She arched and pulled and pushed until he finally settled between her legs.

Rebecca spread her thighs wider with a moan and lifted her hips.
Jesus, she’s hot for it.
“Sweetheart, I wish I could, but I can’t fuck you right now. Give me a few minutes and I’ll be ready.”
