‘Don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop,’ she pleaded. He smiled and
resumed his oh so dedicated attention to bringing her. Her orgasm crested a
wave so large it swept over her mind, body and soul. She was drowning in the
sensation of having his mouth on her, his tongue in her. Then he slid his
finger into her, bringing her again.

She thrashed on the bed, still restrained by Korvain’s hand on her
stomach, until sweat beaded and her heart felt as if it would beat right out of
her chest. When at last her body had quieted, she sat up on her elbows and
looked at Korvain down the line of her body.

K
orvain’s eyes
traversed all the soft and gentle slopes of Bryn’s body as his gaze drifted
languidly up to her face. He was between her legs—in his opinion no sweeter
place to be—and he had brought her to orgasm.

The only thing bothering him right now was the fact he had called
her
Sh’mai
. It was an elfish word loosely translated to ‘beloved of my
soul’. He hadn’t meant to let it slip out, but it had. He just thanked the gods
Bryn wasn’t familiar with the term. He was still trying to get his head around
it.

Korvain climbed up her body until he lay alongside her on the bed.
Her body was fluid and boneless; she was a woman well satisfied. She touched
his face gently, stroking his bottom lip softly. He knew she was trying to see
his fangs again. He had felt the thrill that had run through her body when
she’d seen them before. They were practically vibrating again now. But he would
not take her blood this time. They had plenty of time for that.

He captured her thumb in between his lips and bit down gently
without breaking the skin. She gasped, her eyelids drifting to half-mast. His
tongue swept over where he’d bitten, and she withdrew her finger.

‘I want to feel you, Korvain. All of you.’

‘I don’t want to hurt you,’ he murmured.

‘You won’t hurt me.’

‘You’re sure?’ he asked, his voice croaky. He had been dreaming
about this happening ever since he’d started invading her dreams. She nodded.
Her blonde hair was fanned out on the pillow beneath her, giving her every
reason to look like the goddess she was.

Propping himself up onto his arms, his hands beside her head, he
lowered his body down until he was being cradled by her hips. He’d decided this
was his most favorite place to be. His erection was a whisper against her
opening.

‘Last chance to change your mind,’ he said.

‘I’m not going to change my mind.’

He nodded and lifted his hips just a little. His weeping tip made
contact with her slick heart, and he let out a sharp breath that puffed out his
cheeks. Gods, she felt so good, and he’d only just touched her. Bryn lifted her
hips up, forcing the contact he had so badly craved.

Pushing gently, he began burying himself within her. He knew she was
still a virgin, so he had to go slowly. He pushed a little further into the
well of her body. Bryn gasped, her fingers latching onto his shoulders. Sweat
broke out on his brow as he tried to maintain his gentle pace. When she gasped
sharply, he froze.

‘I’ll stop,’ he said, regretting the words instantly.

‘No, don’t,’ she replied with a grimace, sucking in a breath.

‘I’m not going to hurt you, Bryn,’ he said darkly.

‘You’ll hurt me if you stop,’ she retorted. Her back arched off the
bed, forcing more of him into her body. He felt her stretch to accommodate his width
and he swore under his breath, attempting to pull free of her body.

‘More,’ Bryn whispered. ‘I need more of you.’

She angled her hips to hold him within her. She was driving him crazy
with her body. She was clearly in pain, and he was the one to cause it. He
started to withdraw despite her little protests. They could try again later
when she
wasn’t
recovering from torture.

Bryn dug her fingers into his biceps, forcing him to look at her.
‘Make love to me, Korvain,’ she whispered.

He searched her eyes, hoping to find the answer to what he should
do.

‘Fuck me,’ she commanded when he didn’t react. ‘It’ll be the same
the next time we do this. And I plan on doing this with you again.’

With a soft growl, Korvain penetrated her, stretching her wider and
wider until he could go no further. Bryn called out his name when he started to
rock into her, the gentle rhythm creating the friction he had been longing to
feel.

‘Gods!’ Bryn gasped, getting a tighter grip on his shoulder. He
stopped.

‘Am I hurting you?’ he asked in a panic. Gods, he had never asked
anyone that question so many times, but Bryn was different. Hurting her was the
last thing he ever wanted to do.

She looked into his face, smiling. ‘Yes, but it’s temporary. It will
pass. I knew it would be painful, but I know what I’m asking for here.’

He nodded reluctantly. ‘Okay.’

Leaning down, he kissed her gently on the lips. Her tongue slid into
his mouth, pushing against his. His hips arced against hers and she moved with
him, absorbing the impact.

Korvain was so keyed-up he knew he wouldn’t last long. Bryn just
felt too good. It just felt too good being buried to the hilt within her. As if
those thoughts were the catalyst, he felt the familiar tightening down low in
his body.

‘Gods, I’m going to come,’ he managed to grit out. Before he had a
chance to draw breath, Bryn surprised the Hel out of him. She flipped him over
onto his back so she was riding him. Her face contorted at the deeper invasion.

He panicked, trying to flip her back over again. ‘Bryn, no.’

‘Shh,’ she soothed with a forced smile. ‘Trust me. Just relax.’

She took his hands and placed them on the top of her thighs. He
swallowed, his eyes drifting down to where their bodies were joined. They
travelled further up her lean stomach to her breasts which were swaying with
the steady rhythm of her rocking back and forth on his hips.

Sweat had beaded on Bryn’s face, her eyes squeezed shut. Korvain
could taste her pain, but Bryn wouldn’t stop. Her mouth parted a little, her
tongue darting out to sweep along her bottom lip. She was rocking and grinding
against him. He could feel her inner walls clenching around his cock,
squeezing. He clutched the top of her thighs suddenly, his knuckles turning
white.

‘I’m coming,
Sh’mai
. I’m coming.’

Bryn threw her head back and rode him harder. He came within the
well of her body, jetting his seed deep inside her. There wasn’t a better
feeling for a man than that, knowing that he had marked his woman inside and
out. Bryn cried out his name as she, too, came again.

He felt her inner muscles clenching down onto his cock, drawing yet
another orgasm out of him. His hands went to her hips, fingers digging in. He
threw his head back into the pillow, his back arching while Bryn held on.

His breath was beating out of him. Bryn’s was matching his. He
looked up at her and Bryn’s dual-ringed eyes looked back into his. Leaning
forward, with their bodies still connected so intimately, she placed a gentle
kiss on his lips.

Chapter Thirty-seven

T
aer stared at
Korvain sitting in front of her and tried to make sense of the words he was
saying.

‘Tay? Adrian’s de—’

‘Yeah,’ she interrupted. ‘I heard you the first time.’

Adrian’s dead. Adrian’s dead. Adrian’s dead.

Yep, she got that message loud and clear. But why was she still
here? She must have asked the question out loud because Korvain began speaking
again.

‘When I went home, I found you both in the garage. Adrian...’

She winced over his name.

Korvain sighed. ‘Your brother was dead. You had had your throat
slashed, but you still had a weak pulse. I brought you here to be healed.’

She eyed the room she’d woken up in again. It was plain,
eggshell-white with more plain and functional furniture. She was lying in one
single bed while another identical bed was set on the opposite wall. The sheets
were still rumpled as if it had not long ago been slept in.

‘Who healed me?’

‘A Valkyrie named Eir mainly, but another called Kara helped to
stabilise you first.’

‘Where’s Darrion?’

Korvain shook his head. ‘I don’t know. I’ve searched his safe
houses, even the ones he doesn’t think I know about. He’s nowhere to be found.’

‘Yeah? Well, I’m going to find him,’ she snapped, her anger started
to cloud her mind. She was going to find him and return the fucking favor he’d
bestowed upon her and...her brother.

Taer felt the first tear begin to swell, but she blinked it away.
She would not cry—not in front of Korvain or anyone. She had to be stronger
than that. Ad...her brother had told her life was tough, and she had to be
tougher. Well, guess what? She was going to be tougher. She would avenge her
brother and she would make sure Darrion’s death was a long and slow process.
That bastard had just hurt the wrong Mare.

Revenge was coming.

Retribution was near.

D
arrion watched
the house burn, watched the humans swarm like flies to cow shit. He waited
until the very end, until Korvain emerged. He watched as the Mare shrugged the
shadows from his shoulders.

‘Well, fuck me.’ He had no idea the bastard was capable of that. He
knew he was powerful, but to be able to manipulate the shadows like that...well
he hadn’t seen that happen since before he was an apprentice. The Mare moved
silently though the burned remains of his house.

Adrian’s body had been taken away in an ambulance, but there was no
way they’d be able to ID the body without dentals, and Adrian didn’t have any.
Darrion shoved his hand into the front pocket of his cargoes and ran his
fingers through the collection of teeth that were so fresh the blood was still
drying on them.

He should have had double the number, but he had discovered Taer’s
body was gone, which could have meant one of two things. Either she was still
alive, or Korvain had taken her body away first before coming back for Adrian.

Yeah, Korvain was just that chivalrous.

Bastard.

He faded back to his safe house in South Boston. He knew he had to
get out of there. Korvain would be coming for him. Besides, what more could
Darrion do? Bryn was still breathing, which meant Odin was still breathing. He
could try to strike again, but he needed time to rally himself, to arm himself.
This particular mission had failed, but the next one wouldn’t.

Opening up his safe, he took out his collection of weapons and
enough cash to see him through to the next move. He had to get out of the city.
Darrion threw a bag of clothes together, hastily shoving them in along with the
cash.

He didn’t know where he would go. All he knew was
who
he had
to go to. Closing his eyes, he felt the vibration of his old master. At long
last, his deceit had paid off. He faded away from Boston on his way to plot his
revenge.

Prologue

L
oki watched from
his dark, dank corner of the room. Whiskers twitching, his beady eyes followed
the demi-god as he fell to the ground. The Mare spun around, staring down at
Bryn who was clutching her golden blade in her fingers.

Loki didn’t know the true power of her blade until that very moment.
One little cut was all it took to cut the strings of his puppet, to cut his
strings and send him spilling out onto the floor—his last breath puffing out in
front of his mouth.

After freeing the Valkyrie, Korvain scooped Bryn into his arms and
led the only other living thing in the subterranean room out through the metal
door. In this form, Loki’s sensitive nose drew in the scent of the decaying
bodies of the Valkyries who had perished at his hand. They lay in a pile in one
corner, the ground littered with their bloodied feathers.

No doubt Bryn would come back for them as soon as she was able which
meant he had to get out of there. With a single thought, he reformed into his
true form, running a hand through his pale hair and stretching out his neck.

With one final look at the first battle in his war against Odin,
Loki faded from the tunnel...
