“Not tonight.” She frowned, but nodded and left.

“Erak, I don’t know about you, but I need to fuck,
and the one I want hasn’t returned from the back,” Genet said, his voice
strained.

“I agree. My cock is hard as steel for that little
human. I think we should go back there and get her.” Raimi reached down and
adjusted himself.

Erak agreed with both of his brothers, but going
after her was not an option.

“Scaring her into submitting to us is not an option.
She was hesitant when all three of us showed an interest earlier. Clearly she
is not accustomed to that, and I’m not about to corner her. I want her just as
badly as you two, but she needs to come to us willingly. Has that not the way
it has been with our kind?” They may be going to search for females to carry
their sons, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t let said females come to them,
and choose who they wanted to mate with. The only problem was, could he uphold
his own words and stay away from sweet, sweet Luna?

****

Luna leaned against the wall and took one more deep
breath. She needed to get back out there before Maximo came looking for her. She
didn’t know how long she had been in the storage room, maybe but a few moments,
but that was enough to enrage Maximo, that she was certain of. With her mind
made up on what she was going to do about the Asek warriors, she steeled
herself and pushed away from the wall. Before she could go back to where the
Aktullas were the door beside her banged open, and she whirled around.

“Ah, there you are, princess.” Maximo shut the door
behind him and grinned. Thin lips stretched over his decaying teeth. “Hiding,
are you?”

“No.” She straightened her shoulders and glared at
him. He was by her in the next instant, his stench surrounding her.

“I think you were. I think that is exactly what you
were doing, Luna.” He reached up and gripped the back of her neck, trying to
pull her closer. She used all her strength to hold her ground. “You see, the
Aktullas won’t even purchase you for the night, and they don’t care what
species of female they bed.” He leaned in closer and ran his nose up her cheek.
A revolting shiver raced up her spine. “If I can’t sell you, then what good are
you but wiping up tables and warming
my
bed?”

The slimy feel of his tongue along her temple had
her squeezing her eyes shut. She pushed him away, but he was stronger than she
was. It was a damn shame that most species were physically superior to humans.

“You steal from me, and now I can’t even sell you to
make up the cost. I guess I’ll just have to take out your payment in the form
of sexual favors.”

“No.” She tried to push him away again, but he moved
closer until her hands were sandwiched between their bodies.

“Wrong word, princess, and one I don’t particularly
like anyways.” His species was humanoid in appearance, but that was where their
similarities ended. His kind was cruel and disgusting, degrading and appalling.

“Let me go, Maximo, or I’ll scream.” His chuckle was
anything but humorous.

“Go ahead. No one can hear you with all the noise.
And besides, you think they care? Remember where you are, princess, and that to
everyone else you are nothing but a whore to be used and discarded.”

His vile words brushed over the surface of her body,
but didn’t penetrate her soul. She had lived with cruel words, hateful actions,
and all forms of abuse from every part of this planet. The ones that had cared
for her had been the only light in this darkened world, and she missed that
warmth terribly.

“Maximo, we have an issue with a fight between a
Kabulla
beast and a
Hatuni
.”
Meesha
rushed in, but came to a sudden halt, her
unrestrained breasts swaying from the force. She looked between her and Maximo,
and then back at Luna. A look of sympathy crossed her face, but she didn’t make
a move to pull the filthy male off of her. Maximo cursed and turned to look at
Meesha
.

“Dammit. I’ll be out there momentarily.” When
Meesha
didn’t move right away Maximo barked out, “Get the
fuck out. I said I’d be there soon.” She scurried off without a backward
glance. When they were left alone once more he turned back to her and grinned.
“By the end of the night you’ll be mine, princess.” With that he pushed away
from her and glared. “Now get your ass back out there, serve my patrons, and
just remember that once the last customer leaves, your virginity will be mine.”

Bile rose in her throat, but she didn’t give in to
the urge to vomit. With one last look he turned and stalked off. For several
moments all Luna did was stand there, trying to catch her breath and decide
what she was going to do next. She moved to the small window in the door and
peered out. She needed to see if striking a deal with the Aktullas would even
benefit her, or if Maximo would find out and get angrier yet. She looked over
at them, saw the nude females dancing lewdly right in front of them, and defeat
settled inside of her. How could she compete with females like that? They were
gorgeous, exotic, and knew how to move to tempt a male. They also knew how to
pleasure a man, unlike her. Besides, Maximo had already told her they refused
to purchase her. They were warriors, used to getting what they want. No doubt
they wanted experience, not a naive human female that had never had sex, let
alone been kissed.

Turning away
and looking around frantically, she knew she had to leave now. She’d go home,
get the small pack of essentials she had packed, and run as fast and hard as
she could. She could go to where the crafts departed, maybe see about getting
on one of them to help her. It was worth a shot, even if she doubted it would
get her very far. One thing was for sure, no way in hell was she letting Maximo
claim anything of hers. She slipped out the back door, her heart beating so
fast and hard she couldn’t hear anything besides it banging in her ears.

Her small shack was only a few minutes from Tao, and
when she rounded the corner and saw it come into view a sigh of relief escaped
her. Darting as quietly and stealthily as she could, she slipped into her home
and shut the door behind her. For only a second she allowed herself the moment
to calm her racing heart, but she knew she had to jump into action, because
once Maximo realized she was gone he’d come for her.

The bag where she had packed the essentials for a
speedy escape sat behind her bed. It had a change of clothes, a sock filled
with her life savings, a few cans of food and some bottles of clean water. Looking
around to see if she needed anything else, she tightened her hold on the
tattered strap of her pack. She walked over to her mattress and lifted the
stained and frayed weight up. Sitting like a jewel in garbage was her adoptive
mother’s only possession worth anything. The large
q’anna
shell hair barrette wasn’t worth anything, but it meant everything to Luna. Slipping
it into her pocket, she glanced around once more. She needed to hurry if there
was any hope of escaping with her life intact. Slinging the bag over her
shoulder, she was just about to leave when Maximo’s enraged voice came from
just outside the front door. There was nowhere to escape since there were no
windows in her home, and her only way out was currently blocked by a maniac.

Quietly setting the bag on the ground, she
frantically searched for something to use as a weapon. Aside from a few plates
in her cupboard, rusted tattered utensils, and her less than attractive mattress,
she had nothing. Running over to the utensils, she found a two pronged, dented
and beaten to hell fork, and snatched it up. It was a primitive instrument used
for eating, but on this planet technology was less than appealing. Silently
moving behind the door, her gaze dropped down to the bag. Lifting it, she tested
its weight. It was heavy enough that she might be able to knock him down with
it, which would throw him off balance and give her enough time to escape.
Maximo’s clipped voice came through the front door once again.

“I knew you’d run, just didn’t think it would be so
soon. Come out here, Luna!” He started to
chuckle,
and
her heart beat faster. “Open the door like a good girl. I won’t hurt you, that
is, not unless you beg.” His voice sounded off-key, crazed even. Gods, had he
finally snapped, well, even more than normal?

Keeping quiet, she hoped he left, but knew that was
a lost dream. This scenario was a long time in coming, but even knowing this,
she wasn’t prepared. The handle jiggled once, and when he realized it was
locked he started beating on the door. Thank the heavens she had been smart
enough to turn the lock when she got home, but the thin barrier that currently
kept him back wouldn’t hold for very long.

“Open.
The.
Fucking.
Door!”
He roared out. Gripping
the fork tighter, she braced herself. It would only be seconds before he busted
through, and when he did she needed to be ready to attack and run. Maximo
slammed his body against the door. The already rotting wood bowed forward. He
did this over and over again, and when the strain became too much for the
abused wood it busted forward. A crack of lightning filled the room. Maximo
stumbled forward, his face a mask of sweat and redness. He stood in the center
of the room, and he clenched his hands as he frantically searched for her.

She stood perfectly still, not even daring to breathe,
but it didn’t matter because when he turned around and spotted her, his face
broke out in a sick, predatory grin. Eyes blood-shot and glazed from his rage,
he looked crazed. He stepped closer, and the scent of
bloonda
berry liquor laced his breath. The very thought that he had partaken of the
potent alcohol made her breath freeze in her lungs. Not only was the liquor
rare and lethal, it also altered a person’s perception and caused raw fury to
overtake them. That made Maximo’s normally rage-filled species even more
unsteady. The alcohol was illegal in fifteen different planets, including the one
they were currently on, and that was saying a lot since nothing seemed to be
illegal here.

“I had a few drinks with some
Kleebo
males.” He licked his dried lips and let his eyes move up and down her body in
a disgustingly suggestive glare. “I went back for you, but you can imagine my
surprise when I realized you left me.” His words slurred together, but she knew
he hadn’t meant the latter in the literal since. The problem with
bloonda
liquor was that it hit hard and fast. It became
more potent with each passing minute. The longer she stayed in front of him,
the more dangerous the situation became.

“I didn’t, Maximo.” Trying to keep her voice level
and steady, she made herself appear calm when she was anything but.

She needed to lie, and make it believable. “I
simply came home to freshen up. I intended to come back.”

He stared at her, his gaze traveling up and down her
body once more. Her skin crawled. “You lie.” Spittle dripped from his mouth,
and he advanced.

“Stay calm.” She internally winced at her choice of
words. He stopped, gritted his teeth, and came forward again. That was probably
not the smartest thing to say.

“I am
calm
,
princess. I’m going to show you how calm I can be.” Lunging toward her, she
dodged out of his grasp, but it was far too close for comfort since she felt
the pads of his slimy fingers brush along her shoulder. His roar of outrage
seemed to rattle the walls. She turned, held the fork high in the air, and
watched him unsteadily. His laughter was maniacal, loud and cackling. “What do
you plan on using that for, Luna? Fork me to death?”

He lunged toward her again. Despite his
intoxication, Maximo was quick. As he grabbed a chunk of her hair, she cried
out in pain. Lifting her arm high, she tried to blindly stab at him. Failing
several times, she twisted in his arms until she could see a clear shot.
Without thinking Luna brought the fork down. She felt resistance and then heard
him roar out in pain as the utensil hit its mark. The impact caused him to
loosen his hold on her hair, and she slipped from his grasp.

Time was of the essence. Rushing toward the door,
adrenalin pumped through her body. Just when she was almost free Maximo tackled
her from behind. Feet coming out from under her, she lifted her arms to shield
herself as gravity and Maximo’s weight took her down. Raw pain spread up her
arm as something thick and sharp pierced her flesh. She was rolled over
roughly. Maximo straddled her waist and slapped her across the face. The taste
of blood filled her mouth. He slapped her again and again, finally stopping
when she couldn’t hold off her tears any longer.

“You made me do this, Luna.” Caressing her face
almost lovingly, he whispered the words. Hauling her from the ground, Maximo
pulled her close for an embrace.

The pain that encompassed her was like nothing she
had ever felt before. Head cradled to his chest, she didn’t fight him, didn’t
have the strength to. As he murmured unintelligible things against her hair
that was when she remembered what was in her pocket. Using slow movements as
not to alert him to what she was doing, she pulled out the hair barrette. Luna
tightened her fist around it and leaned back to look at him. One of her eyes felt
swollen, and her vision was blurry and out of focus. He looked down at her and
caressed her face once again.
