“What—what are you doing?” she asked.

“We’re going to erase everything that happened tonight, sweetheart.” As soon as his cock sunk into her, all of the intentions he had with Darcy would be gone. He would wipe tonight’s slate clean and never follow through with another.

She beat at his chest, kicking her legs, trying to dislodge herself from his hold. “Oh no, we’re not, not after you didn’t deny you were about to sleep with her.”

In the hallway upstairs, heading to her bedroom, a sort of paralysis numbed his motions—he couldn’t move, stuck in mid-step. It was surreal.

Mya jumped out of his arms and backed away from him, holding her palm up in the air, facing him. A tear streaked down her face. “No, you will not be erasing anything by taking me to my bedroom,
sweetheart
,” she bit out at him with disdain.

Holy shit. Did she freeze him with her magick
?

He tried to talk to her, but his lips and tongue wouldn’t budge.

She paced back and forth in the short hallway, looking down at the floor, talking with her hands. “I told you I wasn’t a one way street. You demanded from me, and I gave and gave, time and again. Now, I demand from you. What were your intentions with Darcy tonight?” She raised her palm toward him again…her green eyes flashed black. She looked at him wildly, her skirt still drawn up to her waist, exposing her thong. “I want the truth. Speak.”

Cole worked his jaw back and forth, the rest of him unable to do anything. Fuck, if he told her the truth…she might incinerate him. And he deserved it. He’d felt first-hand how powerful and dark her magick could be. But, at this point, the worst thing he could lose was Mya, even if she killed him. He’d rather rip out his cold dead heart and give it to her, then ever see her with another man again. “Okay. I admit. Darcy and I have been friends for years. Tonight—I thought we might take it a step further, but only because I knew I couldn’t have you and it eats me up alive inside.”

“You were going to fuck her?” One of her brows cocked up as she narrowed her sights on him.

“Baby, I didn’t want to.” Truth.

Her tone held an icy fierceness. “You didn’t want to screw her, yet you were going to? You looked so happy laughing with her, whispering in her ear.”

Damn it to hell. “I’m not allowed to be with you. There’s not an
us
in our future.”

She took a methodical step closer. “Why can’t there be an us, Cole? Because I’m to be queen?”

He needed to tell her the truth. “Yes.”

“Or is there more to it that you’re not telling me? Is it because of your scar?” She studied him.

“No. I’m imperfect. Nobody wants an abomination to mate with their queen.” The admission left a bitter taste in his mouth. He wanted to spit it out on the floor in disdain, but instead, choked the truth back down.

“Except the queen herself,” she said with determination.

“You don’t get it, Mya. I’m a defect. I couldn’t even heal myself. What does it say about me as an Aos sí? We’re natural healers.” Even though he was frozen in place, the pain still gored him in the chest. “Don’t you see, baby, I’m corrupted on the inside.” He gritted his teeth from the pressure swelling below.

Her hand dropped limply to her side as she lowered her head—crushed, conquered.

No, he couldn’t have her defeated in this way. After he gained mobility, he scooped her up again in his arms and carried her into her bedroom. Magickally turning on a lamp, he closed the door as well and locked it behind them.

He turned her to face him and she wrapped her legs around his waist—fitting him like a glove. Undoing his jeans, he released his strained cock. He never needed another like he needed her right then. “I want you so bad it hurts. You have no idea, wildflower.” Holding her up with one arm, he ran his free hand over her red hair, smoothed back in a ponytail. “Let me be yours, right now.”

She nodded, nibbling on her lower lip and it was enough for him.

Cole pulled her thong more firmly aside and slipped his aching shaft into her soaking pussy. Fuck, she was so wet, so needy. Using her ass for leverage, he pumped her up and down on his cock.

Mya slid down him all the way and cried out. Her hips undulated with his rhythm driving him harder into her soft, tight heaven.

His mouth moved to the soft column of her neck and he kissed her skin, sucking her tender flesh and laving her with his tongue. Overwhelmed with the need to mark her, he drew his shaft out and slammed it back into her as he bit down on her neck and held her between his teeth.

“Cole,” she screamed digging her nails into his shoulders.

Panting between thrusts, he breathed, “You’re so damned intoxicating, baby, I can’t get enough of you.”

Her green eyes swirled with fire. “Tell me again.”

“I can’t get enough of you, Mya. These urges you drive inside of me are like a drug. You’re a stimulant—and I’m—I’m addicted. When you look at me like this, with that fucking ravenous hunger, I want to stuff you with my cock and feed you.”
More
. He needed more—to drive into her, to claim the beauty riding him. The one who owned him. He crushed his lips against hers, demanding entrance to her mouth and she opened. Taking him in, drawing his tongue inside her. He groaned at the contact and the sweet walls of her sex clenched around his cock.

Using his magick, he untied his work boots and then kicked them off, shucking his socks with them. His pants went down next and he shuffled out of them. He reached behind him and pulled her cowgirl boots off, discarding her socks too. Still inside her tight pussy, never leaving her lips, he carried her over to the bed and climbed on top with her.

Mya stared up at him, chest heaving. Her kiss swollen lips were a beautiful crimson.

He pulled his shirt over-head, a crazed desire to have them skin on skin, then shimmed her shirt off. “I really hope these aren’t your favorites.” He tore her bra open in the middle and her exquisite breasts popped free exposing the hardened nipples he couldn’t wait to devour. “Damn, baby.” He pinched her rose colored buds, rolling them in his thumbs and forefingers until they turned a marvelous shade of maroon from the blood rushing to them.

Mya moaned and rocked her hips in to him, pressing his cock deeper inside. Her body responded to him with such intensity.

And he fucking craved it like a lunatic. Bending down, he took a swollen nipple in his lips, sucking the areola into his mouth and caressing the tip with his tongue.

Her back arched and she fisted his hair, pressing him harder against her. “How do you always do this to me, Cole?”

“Do what, baby?” He switched to her other breast, teasing it to the same heights as the other.

“Make me want you so badly. I swear all you have to do is look at me.” She cried out when he bit her perky bud as hard as he could.

He ripped her jean skirt in half along with her thong. Finally, they were both naked. He lowered himself down on her until he felt the warm heat of her skin against his. Her full breasts smashed against his chest. Nuzzling his lips against hers, he said, “Baby, you do the same thing to me.” He slid his shaft slowly out of her and she whimpered with the loss. “Does my greedy girl want more?”

“You know I do,” she breathed against his mouth.

“Are you hungry for it? Hungry for me?” He teased her slickened entrance with the tip of his head.

“I’m famished.” She nipped his bottom lip with her teeth at the same time she dug her fingernails into his ass.

Cole slammed his cock back into her, burying her to the hilt, feeding her sex with his sustenance. Her inner walls tightened around him sending a fierce ache to his balls. He wouldn’t be able to draw this out much longer, he craved to fill her up. “Come for me baby.” Taking her lips with his, he kissed her—urgent—desperate to brand her entire body.

He rolled his hips into her, harder, faster and she moved with him, arching her ass. She screamed against his mouth, her sex clenching with spasms all over his shaft. His balls tightened building up his release and he erupted inside of her—bursting in waves of intoxicating pleasure.

When they finally came down from their high, he rolled them over and pulled her against him—cradling her body with his and tucking her head under his chin. He needed this connection with her.

After a moment of silence, she pressed a kiss to his collarbone and asked, “Will you tell me more about yourself?”

“Like what?” He caressed the soft ridges on her lower back.

“What do you like to do for fun…and please don’t say playing darts.”

She would never let him live that down and he deserved it. Cole couldn’t help but chuckle. “Let’s see. I like to take trips on my motorcycle and there’s a classic mustang I am trying to restore. When I can find a worthy opponent I like to play chess.”

She raised her head and looked at him. “You play chess?”

“What’s wrong with chess?”

“I don’t know—you don’t seem the type.”

“It’s a game formulated around abstract reasoning and cognitive thinking. It helps me concentrate.”

“Deep on so many levels.” She sarcastically smiled.

“What’s your favorite game, then?”

Mya pursed her lips to the side deep in thought. “Texas Hold’em.”

“Poker?”

“I love poker. I’m really good it.”

“Well then, maybe I’ll have to challenge you to a round of strip poker sometime.” He bumped the tip of her nose with his.

She smiled at him, but then a flash of sadness crossed over her face.

He cupped her chin. “Hey, what was that thought about, baby?”

“Nothing.”

“No secrets. I thought we established this. Tell me.”

Mya looked away. “Earlier you said we aren’t allowed to be together. How long will I have you this time—before you leave again?”

And there it was…reality slapping him in the face with a cast iron skillet. He had to leave, not just her room—but he needed to vacate the compound and expel himself from the temptation named, Mya. For good. The last thing he wanted was to bring her down with him and it made is fucking heart bleed out as he started to pull away from her.

CHAPTER FIVE

A
trickle of light seeped into the darkness of night. The cavern turned out to be Gavin’s saving grace.
If you put your mind to it, you can and will achieve it.
With his silenced gun aimed, he poked his head up out of the hole he dug and surveyed the grounds for any Unseelie patrols. The coast was clear.

He reached up through the dark earth and pulled himself up, climbing out. It took him a damned week to dig through the three mile long, underground river tunnel, but he fucking did it.

Now, he was in the Unseelie compound, in the back of the mansion, supposedly housing Mya. Quickly and lying flat on the ground, so his clothes blended in with the darkness, he covered the hole with an artificial turf he brought with him. He crouched, glancing around the area, and ran the ten feet distance toward the mansion. Making himself flush with the house, he hid in the shadows.

Thankfully, all the info Nick supplied him with turned out to be pretty damned accurate, because he couldn’t afford to make any mistakes with this mission. Since it was midnight, the lights were off, giving him easier access.

He closed his eyes and aimed his magick to the lock on the backdoor. It wouldn’t budge. Son of a gun, he hadn’t planned on them having the house reinforced with magick. Maybe he could old school it and pick the lock. He reached around to the side of his backpack and pulled out his mini toolkit, then got to work on the door. Each time he slid the mechanism to flip over, in the lock, it switched back into place. The whole thing must be permeated with some type of magick.

Exhaling a weary breath, he looked up at the sky. A chimney jutted from the roof. If Santa could do it, why not him? Gavin put the safety on the gun and slipped it into its holster, then he scaled the outside of the house, using the ridges in the stone façade for his grip. A few times, he almost slipped, but his determination kept him moving, giving him strength. He crawled up onto the roof and crouched down, making his way over to the brick structure. The chimney was large enough for him to slide down. Big damn houses and there over extravagance—worked in his favor.

Not hesitating for fear of being caught, he crawled over the edge and dropped down into a free fall. His feet hit the bottom, landing on the grate. He bit the curses back, as he absorbed the impact and fought to balance on the cast iron. He already made too much noise with the stupid fucking piece of metal underneath him. Forget the pain. The only thing he cared about was extracting Mya.

Luckily, the lights were off in the house, but he still pulled his gun out of its holster before he ducked out of the fireplace and took off quietly up the stairs. Damn, the whole place reeked with the stench of Unseelies. Softly, he crept down the long hallway, keeping the gun aimed, trying to catch Mya’s scent. He didn’t want to open up the wrong door and wake someone else. Who knows how many people were staying here and he’d been fortunate enough to dodge any guards so far.

Finally on the left he caught a whiff of her, a faint light glowed underneath the door. He focused his magick on the lock and unlatched it. Then, he carefully twisted the handle and the door slowly swung open.

And his heart seized in his chest. Cole, butt ass naked, slid off the bed. Mya. His Mya lay bare on the same bed, red welts on one of the cheeks of her ass. Pure unadulterated violence covered his vision. “You son of a bitch,” Gavin roared as he charged Cole.

Half way across the room, he suddenly stopped paralyzed, unable to move in mid stride, his arm drawn back ready to bash Cole’s head in with the butt of the gun.

Cole held the same pose, yet his ding-a-ling hung right there in the air.
Shit.
Scrub the eyes with salt.
What in the hell?
How did they freeze in place like this? Gavin looked at Mya. She clamored off the bed, dragging the sheet with her and wrapped it around herself. How was she not frozen in place too? And what the fuck happened?

For a moment, she disappeared behind a door then reemerged with a towel. She walked to Cole and wrapped it around his waist, tugging each side into the makeshift band.

My eyes.
Gavin would have to scour his brain with bleach to get the images of a naked Cole out of his head.

Mya addressed Cole, “I’m going to release you, but you will not touch him or say a word until I speak with him first or instruct you.” She held her open hand up in the air, directed at Cole. “You will not make one single move. Do you understand?”

Cole growled out a, “Yes…” Then clenched his jaw.

Gavin tried to talk, but couldn’t.
Did Mya wield this power?
Must be part of the hybrid magick everyone always whispered about because Aos sí couldn’t control another member of the race like this.

When she lowered her hand, Cole wobbled, but quickly regained his balance. His chest puffed up as he squeezed his fists open and close while his dark eyes cast threats silently to Gavin.

Yeah, keep staring punk.

“Mya, this is a major security breach and if we’re going to be ambushed,” Cole said, “I need to call the troops.”

She turned toward Gavin. “How’d you get in here? Are there more Seelies with you?” Her palm raised in the air facing him.

The mobility in Gavin’s mouth started to spread until muscle movement twitched his face. “What the hell is going on here, Mya? You slept with him?” A heated jealousy stirred in his chest.

Cole glowered. “Don’t you dare trust a single word he says, Mya. He’s a filthy, fucking liar. Let me get my phone to call for reinforcements.”

Great.
He didn’t want reinforcements called. Gavin wanted Mya out of here and away from the nasty Unseelie. He wouldn’t spin any untruths if only to stall Cole from calling for backup while he was still frozen in place. “I’m the only one here and nobody else in the Seelie Court knows. There’s an underground cavern I excavated. When I got close to the mansion, I drilled out a shaft to climb up. The hole is in the backyard, ten feet from the back door. I covered it with turf. Then I climbed up the wall and dropped down through the chimney.”

“Go ahead and send out the information about the breach,” Mya instructed Cole, “But don’t tell them we have Gavin yet.” She met Gavin’s eyes. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to save you.”

“Save me from what?” she spat out at him.

“These people. They’ll destroy you. I mean seriously, tell me you didn’t sleep with an Unseelie, much less him.”

“I happen to have half of
these people
running through my veins.”

The fact she was part Unseelie spurred his rage further. “And so what? You just jump into bed with the first one you meet and spread your legs? I mean come on. We’ve been friends for years. I’d expect a little more decency from you.”

Mya sucked in a breath. “What I do is none of your business. You burned down my house!”

A sharp heaviness twisted in his chest.
She knew.
“Mya, everything I did was to protect you. Please believe me. I couldn’t lie about if I wanted to.” He looked at Cole. “But this guy Mya, all he will do is hurt you. I know firsthand how vindictive he is. He only cares about himself.”

Her eyes closed slowly, a flash of pain radiated over her face.

So, she knew what a monster Cole was?

All emotion erased from her expression when she opened her eyes. “Tell me how burning my house down was to protect me? My entire world went up in flames, every memory I had of my parents. You stole everything from me do you realize that? You took everything away from me.”

Her words socked him in the nuts. He destroyed her livelihood at a great cost—but only to protect her. “I’m sorry. I didn’t see any other way to get you to leave. If you didn’t have anywhere to stay, I thought—I thought I could get you to come with me easier.”

“To where?” Mya threw her arms up in the air.

“Anywhere away from the Aos sí. I’ve known since your birth that you were a hybrid. Things happened when you born, everything changed.” He shot a glance to Cole, catching the scar along his chin. “People changed and not for the better.”

Cole’s nostrils flared. “You’re one to talk. Attempted murderer turned arsonist, hmm?”

“At least I follow the rules.”

Mya tilted her head and narrowed her eyes on Cole. “Silence.” Her attention turned back to Gavin. “Did you come here to kidnap me and take me back to the Seelies? I know about the bounty.”

“No. I would never hand you over to them, but I won’t let the Unseelies keep you either.”

“Why not?”

“Because.”

“Gavin, I’m on a very thin wire here. You better spill everything.”

“Because you should be with me. I know what you’re capable of and I’ll protect you. The Unseelies are utilizing you solely for your power. They want to use you to wipe the Seelies out. Then, with your magick, they could rule above humans and make themselves as powerful as the gods we once were. You’re just a puppet for their end game. Why can’t you see that?”

She began to pace back and forth. “Is he telling the truth, Cole?”

“No.”

The lying bastard.
Cole could be saying no to anything, evading the truth by not elaborating to what he said no to. Didn’t matter. Gavin wouldn’t be leaving this house until he killed Cole for good…and Mya would be his, his alone. All he needed was for Mya to unfreeze him with her magick, then he could shoot Cole.

~****~

The air swirled with a ripe tension and Mya didn’t know who to believe, what to think.

Gavin admitted the truth when he said Cole would hurt her—he already had. Before Gavin came in, Cole was leaving her, for good. Though he never said it out loud, she could feel it in the breadth of her entire being. And every time she looked at Cole, standing there, bowed up like a magnificent, half-naked warrior—her heart bled a little more. “Go get dressed, Cole.”

His lips pressed into a firm line and he moved like an angry bear, snatching his clothes from the floor.

He didn’t like be commanded, especially in front of Gavin, she knew that much. However, she couldn’t handle seeing all of his glorious strength bound up in his muscles, or the way he looked at her, knowing he was about to sever things for good between them.

Cole marched into the bathroom.

Longest day of her life. She exhaled wearily. “Answer me in complete sentences, Gavin. Do you care for me?”

“Yes, I care for you. If you want me to be honest. I love you. I always have.”

Cole came roaring out of the bathroom wearing only his pants. “I will fucking kill you.”

“Seriously?” She stepped in front of Cole, placing her hands on his chest and released a calming magick in him. Standing on her tippy toes, she leaned to his ear, whispering, “You were about to leave me for good tonight, don’t think I don’t know the truth. You have two options, stay and talk with me about this after we’re done with Gavin. Or you walk out that door right now and never,
ever
return. Because I promise you this will be the last chance you’ll ever have and I will be sure to have Drake, Gavin, and whomever I want in my bed after I watch you turn your back on me.” It may have been dirty, but she would whip out the big guns. They’d made great strides tonight. Yet, for every step they took forward together, they fell two steps back.

Every muscle in Cole’s chest strung taught, but he nodded to her, before returning his stare to Gavin.

And damn it to hell, he still was half dressed, clenching his shirt in his fist. Seeing this alpha male, warrior side to him only spurred her desire for him further.

“Mya,” Gavin said garnering her attention, “The Unseelies only want to use you, I’m not lying and you know it. Even Cole dodged the answer. Better yet, why don’t you ask him how your parents drove off the bridge? Why don’t you ask him who killed them?”

Ice wove in her veins, crystalizing her blood, shooting a deep piercing pain through her body.
Mom and dad? Murdered?

“I had nothing to do with the death of Mya’s parents and you damn well know that.” Cole pointed a finger at Gavin. “So, don’t try to pin things on me.”

“Does Mya know you were at the scene of the crash?” Gavin stared at her with pleading eyes. “When I showed up at the bridge afterwards, I saw Cole slip into the woods.”

He couldn’t lie and Mya didn’t detect any usualness in his statement to suggest he spun untruths. Or perhaps, the numbness from the turn in the conversation left her in shock. She turned to Cole. “Is what he said, true?”

“I’m an arson investigator, it’s what I do. I always get called to major accidents.”

He was on the scene of her parent’s car crash? Why didn’t he ever tell her?

Information overload. Pounding in her head grew stronger. She closed her eyes and pushed the pressure point between her eyebrows, rubbing in circular motions. She needed time—and some space, to process everything she’d learned. Plus, she still wanted to talk to Cole. Not to mention put some clothes on. A bed sheet did not make a dress. “Gavin, we will finish this conversation tomorrow after I’ve had some rest.” Today had been a proper day in hell and she didn’t want to continue further. “Cole, is there somewhere we can lock up our guest, but at least give him proper accommodations?”
