JAXON

“Calissa, you are killing yourself. You have to stop.”

“Cally. Stop.”

“Little angel. You are doing great but you are going to die if you don't stop.”

I open my eyes and have to instantly close them again due to the brightness of the lights overhead. I have no idea where I am. I don't even know what happened. I feel weak and limp but alive. Actually I feel different.

Something in my hand slips out and I squeeze the other one to stop whatever is soft in my hands from going anywhere. It feels nice.

“Cally!”

“Calissa!”

“Cally!”

“No!”

What the hell is going on? I try again to open my eyes and I have to blink a few times to let my eyes get used to the brightness. I manage to keep my eyes open as I look around at my surroundings. I think I am in some kind of warehouse? Maybe an office? I hear murmurs and shouting and a hell of a lot of commotion coming from the right of me. I try to turn my head but I feel too weak.

“Jaxon?” That's my name. Who said that? I blink and try to look around to see where the voice came from. A woman with dark brown hair and blue teary eyes stands over me. I must be dead because that sure as hell can't be my mum standing over me while I am alive. I frown and she smiles though she doesn't look very happy to see me. “Oh thank God you are alive! Edward! He's alive! She brought him back!” Tears fall off her face and land on mine. Ugh! Hold on... alive? But
you
are dead!! Edward? My dad is dead too? Oh no! Unless...

“Mum?” My voice sounds hoarse and feels rough on my throat.

“Oh baby, mummy is here. We are dealing with a little problem right now. Give me a minute, I will get you anything you need.” Before I can say anything, she disappears from my sight. Where did she go? Come back!

I try with all my might to turn my head towards the direction she went. I manage to get a few inches before wishing I never looked at all. I see my dad, the woman that looks like mum and Caroline, help a woman with dark red hair using some kind of magic on a pretty blonde girl. A very pretty blonde girl. She looks so fragile. I just want to hold her and tell her it is going to be okay. What are they doing to her? There is a boy, he looks young and very familiar. He is standing off at the back of the room, eyes as wide as golf balls and looking like he'd rather be anywhere but here. His eyes shift around the room and when they land on mine, he does a double take. He marches over to me with a frown on his face.

“Nice to see your alive and all mate but your girlfriend is fucking dying right there.” He points to the blonde girl. Girlfriend? I don't have a girlfriend. Do I? I can't have girlfriends. I will just kill them. Maybe that is what happened.

“H-how is she dying?” Wow that took a lot of energy.

              “You
died
Jaxon. She brought you back to life. She gave you every ounce of her energy just so you could come back.” I knew it. I killed her because of what I am. Why do I even bother with girls?

“I didn't mean to.” I whisper to him. “I purposely don't have girlfriends because of this.” I sighs.

“What? No you have it all wrong. Do you even remember her? Calissa? Your girlfriend? The half angel half succubus? Come on Jaxon sort it out mate! She pushed all of her energy into
you
when she was healing you and she ended up pretty much killing herself!” Calissa? Things start flooding back. My brother's babysitter. Hellhound. Half angel. Beautiful amber eyes. Kissing her. Making love to her. Not killing her. Then Tessa, the gun, aiming it half a foot away from Calissa's face. Pain. Now here I am.

“Shit.” I blink away the memories as the present kicks me up the arse. “How long ago did it happen?”

“Two days ago, I think. Calissa passed out around twenty minutes ago and Lorraine, is trying to bring her back but she can't Jaxon. She can't.” My heart cracks in two. I feel energy buzzing through me as I try and sit up. I remember this guy now. It's Mike, the werewolf. He jumps in behind me to help me sit up. I turn towards where the witch, Lorraine, has resorted to CPR instead. I slide off the bed I am laying in and fall onto the floor. “You okay man?” I nod as I crawl over to the girl that owns my heart. She can't die. Not for me. My dad sees me make my way over to her and steps aside. Caroline moves too. Lorraine and the mum imposter lean back so I can be with her.

“She's almost gone Jaxon.” Lorraine says quietly. I shake my head. I won't believe it. She brought me back. She's literally dying for me. “I'll call her mother.” She gets up and walks out of the room.

I don't even know how to start. I look down at her sleeping, peaceful, beautiful face and trace my thumb down her pale cheek. I lean down and kiss her lips. “Titch. My beautiful Titch.” I sigh as I play with a silver ring she is wearing on her thumb. It is the only piece of jewellery she has on. “You wanna know why I call you Titch? Because you have always been this annoying tiny itch I can constantly feel but can't get rid of and you know what? I don't think I could survive without that itch. And compared to me you are pretty titchy.” I huff out a laugh. “Come on princess. Wake up. I am sorry I wanted to kill you. I am sorry I let dad convince me to try. I am sorry for bringing this upon you. I just need you back now. Don't you die on me Calissa Rose Bond. Don't you dare leave me. I will fucking lick your face if you don't open those gorgeous eyes of yours. Those stunning amber eyes.”

“Brown.” I look up when I hear Caroline's voice.

“What?”

“Her eyes have been brown for the past two days. After you well, um, died, the light in her eyes died out and they turned into a shade that looks similar to brown. So we took her to a bar and because of how powerful she is, it caused her succubus self to suck a whole bar filled with people dry... I know what we have to do! Pick her up!” I blink at her sudden movements and loudness but slowly get to my feet. I sway but recover quickly. I try to bend down and pick her up but Mike beats me to it.

“Save your energy.” He says. I give him an appreciative smile though I am quite jealous that he can carry her and I can't. He leaves the room carrying the only girl I will ever love and I slowly follow him but my dad stops me; I watch as everyone leaves the room and follows Calissa and Mike.

“I am glad you're okay son. Despite the circumstances.” He gives me a sad smile and then shocks me by pulling me in for a hug. My father is definitely not the loving, comforting type. So, him doing this right now, feels foreign and awkward to me. “I am sorry that I lied to you about your mothers death.” He says solemnly as he pulls away.

“So that woman
is
mum?” I ask bewildered.

“Yes Jaxon.” He looks down at the floor, ashamed. I open my mouth to speak when Caroline runs in the room.

“Come on you two! We have to go before she dies!” That small sentence snaps me back to what is really important and I leave the room.

THIRTY-SEVEN

We drive to the closest town which happens to have a holiday resort of some kind. There are crowds and crowds of people even though it is two in the morning. We park right in the centre and Mike carries Calissa to a busy pub. A lot of people stare at us as we walk passed them but no-one comments on the unconscious girl we have with us. I don't know how, but my 'mum' manages to get us all in even with Calissa and we enter the pub and stand in the middle of the lounge.

“Okay, give it a minute, watch everyone around you carefully. It is the only way we know if this is working.” Caroline tells us.

I do as she says. I don't even know what I am looking for but I hold on to the hand of the only girlfriend I have ever had. In the corner of my eye, I see a girl near by yawn and a few of the rowdy drinkers start to quiet down. Maybe they are getting tired? My body starts to buzz lightly and I start to feel funny.

“It's working!” Caroline exclaims. I frown as I look around at the people around us. The room goes strangely quiet and a lot of people start to fall asleep. One person walks passed us, stumbles into Calissa and collapses in a heap on the floor. Lorraine rushes over and checks their pulse and gives me a gentle nod before all of our attention falls to my Titch.

At first, it is hard to miss but her eyelids twitch and then her hand moves. I don't believe it. She drained a whole room and is waking up! Pride and joy flows through me and I offer to take her from Mike. I assure him I am strong enough and I take her in my arms just as her eyes flutter open. She blinks a few times and looks at me with a frown edged in her beautiful face. Caroline said her eyes were brown, they aren't, they are a shocking gold. Glowing profoundly.

              “Hi.” I smile.

“You're dead.” She rasps out and I chuckle.

“No.” She raises a hand and touches my face, I close my eyes at the tender touch. She gasps.

“You're really here. Um, where are we?” I smile and look around us. Lorraine starts to look weak and so does my mum and Mike. Oh shit.

“We are in a place we need to leave from. Everyone come on before she kills someone.” We practically jog out of the pub and back to the two cars we brought down here. Still carrying Calissa, I slide into the back seat of Lorraine's car with Caroline while Mike opts to go with my father and mum. Oh that is weird to say. We drive for around twenty minutes before arriving outside a large house. One I haven't even been to before. I don't even need to ask to know it is one of my fathers homes.

We pile out of the cars and walk into the house where I almost get knocked to the ground from Serena pouncing on Calissa and I.

THIRTY-EIGHT- CALISSA

Mum pretty much knocks Jaxon and I to the floor when we enter Edwards home. She doesn't even apologise when she climbs all over us and plants kisses on both of our faces. I grimace as she kisses my cheeks, forehead, nose and so forth and Jaxon laughs as she does the same to him. She then pulls the two of us in for an enormous hug and I swear my head is going to pop off if she squeezes me any harder.

“Serena, get off the poor kids will you?” I know that voice! My head snaps around and I see dad standing in the entry way of a room with his hands clasped together. I wriggle away from mum and Jaxon reluctantly releases me. I wobble at first, when I take a few steps but then I go into a sprint and run into his open arms.

“Daddy!” Tears fall down my face as my dad holds me close to him. His body shudders underneath mine and I realise that I am not wearing my gloves and have just touched him. I gasp and pull away but he isn't shuddering from my touch, he is shuddering from crying. “Why are you crying dad? What's happened?”

“Oh Cally, you died baby. Well almost. Your mother teleported to Mexico and grabbed me as soon as Lorraine rang her and said your heartbeat was weak. You were actually dying.” I gape at him and turn around to look at the rest of the people in the room. Lorraine, mum, Jaxon, Edward, Caroline, Tiffany, Mike. They all nod in confirmation of what dad is saying is true.

“How?” I ask weakly.

“Saving me.” Jaxon says as he steps closer to me. I blink at him. “I died Titch.” Don't remind me. My heart still aches at the memory. “You pushed all of your energy into me when your healing wasn't working. It drained you of your life as if I was feeding from an ordinary person. Caroline then came up with the idea with the pub and the room draining thing you can do and so we gave it a try, it worked and here we are.” He shrugs.

“And here we are.” I repeat. I shake my head disbelievingly. “So I
died?”
I ask again. I don't get it. I feel like I have just had a nap. I feel buzzing with energy.

“No, you
almost
died, Jaxon actually died.” Lorraine tells me. Lorraine! Oh God! She must hate us for all of this. I wonder where my not so best friend is...

“You almost died?!” I spin around and shriek!

“Ana!!!” I run and gather my six year old sister in my arms. She grunts when I squeeze her but I don't care. “You're here!” I look at mum who is smiling.

“I brought her back too. Guess who needs their powers bound.” My eyes widen and I look at my baby sister.

“You a little succubus too honey?” I coo as if talking to a baby instead of a six year old child.

“Shut uuuup! I don't even know what that means. Put me down Cally. Ahhh you're squishing me!” She starts giggling as I tickle her. I put her down when her laughs turn into grunts and she begs me to stop. “I am tired. Can we go home now please?” She asks mum and dad.

“Yes we can. Cally, you coming with us?” I hesitate at my mums question.

“Where is she?” Everyone goes silent. They know exactly who I am talking about. “Don't ignore the question. I want to know where she is.” Lorraine ducks her head down as if suddenly ashamed of her daughter. “I just want to speak to her, I swear.” I smile at Lorraine but she looks unsure.

“Oh for crying out loud. She is in the attic at home. We cast a spell on the entire floor so that no magic can be used inside. Lorraine, she won't harm Tessa.” Mum snaps, getting agitated.

“If you want to be there when I talk to her, you can.” I assure Lorraine. She thinks about this for a moment and then shakes her head.

“I trust you Calissa.” I smile and turn to everyone else.

“Thank you all for helping me, for saving me and for everything else. Edward, thank you for not forcing Jaxon to kill me when he went against your orders and thank you for helping with Levi. Caroline, thank you for saving my life, being a great help and friend to me and my family. Mike, Tessa was stupid to dump you. You are awesome.” He blushes. “Tiffany, I like you. Stick around this time please.” Everyone laughs at my demand except her who smiles lightly. I turn to the last person.

              “You, Jaxon Cray-”

“Jaxon Raymond Cray.” Tiffany cuts in and I grin wide and Jaxon shoots daggers at his mum.

“You, Jaxon Raymond Cray...” I look around the room and see everyone's eyes on us. I rethink my speech to him. “...are coming with me. Come on. See you later everyone!” I grab Jaxon's arm and we shimmer out of the large house and into my room. “We need to speak to her together.” I say and he nods.

“Yeah, I think so too. Let's have some fun first though.” He gets an evil look in his eye and leads me out of the room. He takes me to the entrance to the attic and using the key I swiped from mum, I let myself in and make my way upstairs. I usher Jaxon into the room while I stay behind and listen in.

“J-Jaxon! You're not dead?” Tessa's shaken voice sounds. I try not to feel bad at the fact I know she has been crying.

“Oh I was but Calissa brought me back. Killing herself in the process.” He sniffs and I stifle a laugh at his terrible acting skills.

“No!! She can't die! Is there anything we can do? I can't live without her. I need her.” Aww.

“There is one thing you can do.” Jaxon starts. “You can- ah screw it I can't do it Titch.” I groan.

“Jax you are a shit actor you know that? Can't even keep up a façade for longer than thirty seconds.” I walk into the room with my hands on my hips and frown at him.

“Yeah I know but I can't even go along with it. Living it was hard enough.”

“N'aww you gone all soppy on me. I don't like it. I want my caveman back.” I pout and he laughs before planting a huge kiss on my lips. I turn towards Tessa who is staring at me in horror. “Hey Tess.”

“You- that- um. He- Oh! Don't do things like that to me!” She yells out.

“Why not? You shot
him
, aiming for
me.
Life doesn't get easy after things like that Tess.” I plant my hands on my hips again and Jaxon stands behind me and slips his arms through the gaps and wraps them around my waist.

“I know. I am sorry. Truly am. I don't know what came over me. I don't even
like
my dad.”

“I know you don't. You hate him. Hence why I don't know why you went to him in the first place.”

“I do.” Jaxon cuts in. “After I dropped you off after our date, I went home and got a call from Wayne, the blue haired demon guard from the dungeons? Well he's been working for us on the inside for years. Anyway he said that there is a warlock working for Vepar and Levi that made Tessa do as Levi asked. You were literally under a spell Tessa. When Levi died and Paul came back, the spell increased and made you go on a mad one because it was wearing off.”

“Wayne told you all of that?” I ask dumbfounded.

“Yeah why?”

“No reason. Just seems weird that he couldn't even set us free is all.” I huff and Jaxon laughs and kisses my cheek.

“So, am I forgiven?” Tessa asks hopefully. I give her a repulsed look.

“Uh, no!” Her face drops. I laugh. “Just kidding, yeah. Kind of. I don't want you living here though. I still love you but I don't entirely trust you yet. Besides, our bone crushing power thing works wonders when together and not using it on each other so I'd be dumb to throw that away.” I giggle. So does she but it sounds strained.

“Yeah that thing you did to me frigging hurt. It felt as if all my-”

“Bones were being crushed? Yeah, hence the reason I call it bone crusher.” I smile and she rolls her eyes.

“So what now?” She asks.

“Well, I don't know about you but I want to enjoy the rest of Summer before Uni. I also want to enjoy my boyfriend a bit more.” I give them both a cheeky smile.

“Oh yeah, I'm down for that.” Jaxon whispers huskily against my neck, causing goose-bumps to erupt all over my body.

              “Oh gross.”

“Oh, Rhys wants you to ring him when you are back. Actually he wants me to ring him but he scares the crap out of me so I will leave that to you.” I manifest up the card he gave me and toss it to Tessa.

              “Oh no.” She groans.

“Ha! Well, I'll leave you to it then. My beds all your tonight if you want it. Think your mum is planning on moving back to your old house tomorrow though.” I tell her. I get ready to teleport Jaxon and I away but stop when I see that she looks pained. “What?”

“Can I, um, have a hug?” Her words shock me a bit but I only half regret my response.

“No. I'm not ready for that yet.” I whisper. When she nods, I squeeze my eyes shut and take Jaxon and I out of the room, landing in his. “Was that horrible of me?”

“If you're not ready, you're not ready. No-one will hold it against you.” I nod. “Anyway. We have two days to make up for on that bed of mine.” A mischievous grin forms on his perfect face. “Wanna know what Heaven looks like?” I don't get to form a reply because his bedroom door swings open revealing a sweaty and distressed Lara.

“Cally! I need your help. My friends are in trouble.” Jaxon groans when I sit up to attention.

Just can't catch a break can I?
