“Money isn’t a problem for us.

I know I don’t have to buy your friendship, but I do intend to continue to spoil you, if you’ll let me.”

She patted my thigh.

Janette was back to her old self.

I had no idea she felt so much guilt for a few simple bruises.

We had all enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Dying to press her on the money issue, I thought better of it.

It just wasn’t the right time.

“Janette, darling!”

An older couple approached.

The woman had thin blonde hair and was wearing a thin pink wrap.

The older gentleman was wearing a speedo and had no hair at all.

“Francine!

It’s so nice to see you.

William, you’re looking well.”

She kissed them both on both cheeks.

“I’d like to introduce you to someone special.

This is my dear friend Candy.”

“Hello,” I said as I shook their hands.

“This is William and Francine.

They were my first couple.”

Now it made sense.

Janette wanted them to see her passing the torch so to speak.

They were much older than I was.

Suddenly, I was worried that I would be expected to physically entertain them.

“Candy, you’re simply lovely.

I can see why Janette adores you so.”

Francine ran her hand down my arm making me painfully aware that I was still bare chested.

“Please, help yourself to some lunch.

There’s a pitcher of tea and a pitcher of Banana Daiquiris.”

Janette motion them toward the buffet.

“Janette!”

Another couple approached.

This time the couple looked closer to my age, middle thirties, well maintained, but both completely naked.

This place was really going to take some getting used to.

“Jason and Kayla, so nice of you to come.

This is my dear friend Candy.”

Janette quickly directed them toward the buffet and continued to make introductions.

Four more couples and a few single females made their way over, recent divorcees from Janette’s introduction.

I couldn’t keep anyone’s names straight.

Finally, John and James arrived.

I gave John a very big kiss and thanked him for coming back earlier than expected.

“Wow, a party, huh?” John asked.

“Yeah, and I was already like this,” I said pointing at my chest, “when people started arriving.”

“But most of them are naked.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about.”

He kissed my forehead.

“I’m starving.

Let me grab a plate and I’ll come sit with you.”

Having John near set my nerves at ease.

“So you’re Candy, right?” Kayla asked as she sat next to me.

“Yes, I’m sorry, I can’t remember all these names.”

“Kayla, and it’s okay.

There are a lot of people here.

Janette tells me you’re in advertising.”

“She’s right.”

Oh, networking.

I had to learn to listen better.

Janette told me this was a great place to make business contacts.

“Tell me about it.”

“Mind if I smoke?” I asked.

“Honey, we’re outdoors.

Fire it up.”

She winked.

Once I had the comfort of my nasty crutch in my fingers I began.

“I am an Advertising Executive.

I just like to take my sales hat off.

So many people get pushed into a sales conversation and they are put off by it.

The last thing I want to do is sound like a used car salesman.”

“Smart.

I’d say just tell people what you do and see where it goes.

You don’t seem like the pushy type to me though.

That’s good.

I own a chain of small retail stores, well, my husband and I own it.

Janette mentioned that you have a line of beauty products you’ll be launching soon.”

She was very serious, brows tensed and her hand fisted under her chin.

“Yes, actually, if it weren’t for me having the most fantastic assistant on the planet, I could not have taken this vacation.

I’m going to be very busy when I get back.

My client’s product is fantastic.”

“It has to be.

Janette looks ten years younger.

She says you’ve given her some of the product to try.

That’s all the evidence I need.

Sometime in the next few days, let’s exchange information.

I’d really love to put a display in my stores.

Now, enough business, are you having a good time so far?”

Kayla sat back in her chair and put her sunglasses on.

“We’ve only been here a day, but so far I’m impressed.”

“Hello hunk!” Kayla said lowering her glasses.

John had taken off his golf shirt and slung it over his shoulder.

He was walking over to us with two plates of food.

I snickered.

“Kayla, this is my boyfriend, John.”

“Hello Biceps, I mean John.”

She sat up a little taller in her chair.

The woman was damn near salivating over my boyfriend.

I tried not to laugh.

“Hi Kayla.”

John smiled at her briefly before sitting next to me.

“What does John do?”

“John renovates old buildings into green living spaces.”

John said with his mouth half full of food.

“John is also three feet away and can hear you.”

I slapped his arm.

“Sorry, he’s cranky when he’s hungry.”

That was a total lie.

John was put off by her bicep comment.

I knew him well enough to know he hated comments about his body, especially if he were being objectified.

He was not the typical man in that regard.

“That sounds fascinating.”

Kayla leaned toward us, resting her large breasts on the arm of the lounge chair.

“He does beautiful work.

He’s a real craftsman, and more than a little humiliate about his talent.”

“John can still hear you.”

“Oh, eat your food.

You can join in when you’re full.” I teased.

“He is cranky,” Kayla laughed.

“Don’t sweat it,
John
, my Jason is a real dick until he has a cup of coffee in him.”

I giggled at her emphasizing his name.

This could get fun.

She wanted to lick him from head to toe and despite she looked like a Barbie doll with fake tits, John wasn’t interested.

At least not yet.

It was hard to get the man’s attention when he was hungry.

Janette walked over, handing Kayla and I both banana daiquiris.

I began to wonder if it wasn’t her plan to keep me completely smashed during the entirety of our vacation.

“John, I managed to talk the resort into getting some beer.

It seems you’re not the only man here who has been unhappy about the lack of hops and barley here.

It’s been chilling all day and I’m having some brought out here from a local brewery.

They package it in tiny kegs like Heineken does.

There is a light honey wheat beer, a pale ale and something that looks very dark, like molasses.

James seems to think you’ll like the dark beer the best.”

“Damn Janette!

You’re the hostess with the most-ess.”

John smiled.

“You’re my favorite friend of Candy’s by far.”

Janette smiled, “Well, I think after last night you earned a little hospitality.”

“Bitch!” Kayla said.

She erupted in laughter.

“How do you always manage to nail the hunks first?”

“Nail?” Janette looked at Kayla with disdain.

Kayla just fucked up.

Janette didn’t strike me as the kind of woman that appreciated her friends teasing her like that.

“Sorry Jan, it’s the daiquiris.

They’re going to my head I think.

It won’t happen again.”

“Perhaps a plate of fruit to rehydrate you then.

You don’t want your day to end so soon.”

Whoa.

Janette was still being polite.

I’d seen her pissed before and she usually didn’t recover so quickly.

It had to be from too much time as a judge.

It was her way or the highway and no other way was acceptable.

Janette went back to the other guests.

John gave me a sympathetic look as he finished his second plate.

“All better,” he said, “I just needed some food.

Golf wiped me out.”

“Wanna go for a swim?”

I stood from my chair and held out my hand.

John didn’t answer.

He stood, dropped his shorts to the ground and grabbed my hand.

We eased into the water, John scooping me up.

I wrapped my legs around his waist.

“You look hot.

The sun is good to you.”

His hand on the back of my head, he pulled me in for a hot kiss.

“I love seeing everyone paying you so much attention.

Sort of makes me feel like a genius for snagging you up when I did.”

“Uh, correction there, Mister.

It was I who snagged you.

I seem to remember forcing you to talk to me in the bar that night.”

I nibbled his bottom lip briefly.

“I missed you,” he whispered.

“I couldn’t wait to get the damn game over so I could be with you again.”

“I was so glad to see you, I nearly squealed like a high school girl watching some nitwit romance teen vampire show.”

“What?”

“Teenage girls are into mythical creatures these days.

Never mind.”

I kissed him again.

It was obvious to me that I missed him.

I hadn’t missed anyone in a very long time.

“So what did you do today?” he said as he cupped my ass.

“You’d better distract me quick, or I’m going to fuck you here in the water, and James gave me a long lecture about no fucking in the lagoon.”

“Huh?”

“He started talking about vaginal infections before a slight ringing invaded my ears rescuing me from any real damaging information.

So, what did you do today?”

“After a very nice massage, I grabbed a book and hit the sand.

I was really enjoying myself.

I was just about to find out who the serial killer was when Janette invaded my space, demanded I get out of the sun and eat.”

“Judge Dredd is a little commanding, isn’t she?”

I nearly choked on water.

“Judge Dredd?”

“Come on, you had to have thought so too at some point.

She’s sweet one moment, then the next minute she’s bossing people around.

Sort of like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”

“Okay,” I said laughing, “no more comparisons to fictitious characters.

I get it.

Yeah, she can be a bit much sometimes, but her heart is in the right place.

This little gathering of her friends was so that I can network for business and booty.

It was all for me.”

“No shit?”

John pushed me back so he could measure me up to judge my sincerity.
