Doctor’s Orders…

“Dr. Reed, I beg your pardon. We didn’t mean to cause a scene or disrupt the staff here.” A snort escaped me at Anderson’s bullshit, kiss-ass technique for two reasons. One: what staff? Flirty nurse looked embarrassed, and the two whom decided to show face five minutes ago, seemed happy with the free entertainment. My bet was that it was better than blood and guts any day. And two: his
oh so
formal tone.

How was that it even possible to sound so fake?

“Find something funny, Miss?” Immediately I missed his warmth. Hands that once held me in place released their hold and his body put space between us. Just like the other occupants inside the room, Dr. Reed walked around me, took a stance just to the left of my arresting officer.

Four sets of eyes snapped my way, but it was the doctor’s intense stare that made me pause. Brow cocked and nostrils flaring, he dared me to answer. To challenge his authority in his environment.

I became mute.

There was a deep need within me to yell—tell him to fuck off, but I didn’t. Couldn’t even if every fiber of my being told me to.

“No,” I mumbled after a few intense seconds of gazing. Eyes on mine, he raised that brow once more, but this time with a slight upward curve to his upper lip. Right at the corner, making his smirk defined and a single dimple to appear on his cheek. Knees weak, I took the few steps between me, and the uncomfortable chair I’d been sitting on all evening.

Ignored the heated stares and the few whispers coming from the nurses still witnessing the fiasco this had all turned into. Hand out, I clutched the hard plastic and leaned my weight onto it. My pussy and ankle were throbbing while my temples pounded to the rhythm of each stab of pain.

“No what?” Was this man kidding me with this shit?

Once my breathing calmed and I could concentrate on him, I matched his heated gaze.  “No,
Sir
. Is that better?”

Nodding once, he turned with his arms over his chest toward Anderson. “What did she do?”

The Officer’s eyes flickered between the Reed and mine, not sure how to answer. “Climbed a fence while running away?” Seemed I wasn’t the only one in the room affected by this man’s intimidating persona.

“You were chasing—”

“Sit.” One word and I complied. What the fuck was wrong with me? “Good girl.” This was whispered low, so low, I read his lips. Automatically my pussy clenched and I felt the rush of wetness settle over my labia.

I’d heard about Dr. Reed before just never met the man. Last summer I’d volunteered to work in the neo-natal unit with newborns. Helped feed and change the adorable tiny humans. Three other women worked the same shift as I did and they talked. So did the nurses, single or not.

He was a commodity.

Wanted and desired by most of the female staff at this hospital.

Considerably older than me, he looked to be in his mid-thirties. Not that it bothered me, just threw me for a loop. I’d never been attracted to a man more than five years my senior. Now, seeing his body—his muscles—encased in those scrubs, I saw the appeal.

All man. Thick cords of muscle pulsed each time he opened and closed his hands. His chest expanded and his intake of air was sexier than it should be. Not one solid inch of him was unattractive and I wanted him.

This wasn’t good at all. Not something I was prepared for.

He was beyond words.

“I’m not a child,” I huffed, one that he ignored while strolling back over to where I sat. Seven steps. I counted each one, breathing a little choppy the closer to me he got. Fuck, his mere presence filled the room with heat. Stifling—an overpowering fever that made me lose control and caused a gasp to leave my lips.

“Quiet.” Dr. Reed ate me alive with his hazel eyes. To an outsider looking in at this display, it would seem authoritative. A dominant man; his eyes were bright and full of something dangerous which turned me into a quivering mess. Muscles spasmed, thighs clenched, and my hands balled into tight fists. He noticed this; of course he did, but didn’t say a single word in acknowledgement. The effect he had on me only visible to us. Something I was grateful for. “Not another disrespectful word. Do I make myself clear, Miss…”

“Nora,” Officer Anderson interjected and I smiled at the man. Reed’s eyes narrowed at the act and I shrunk back into the seat. A barely perceptible nod was all the acknowledgment he gave the cop behind him, his eyes trained on mine.

“Nora.” My name rolled off his tongue and it had never sounded dirtier. Filthy sweet and took from me in ways I’d never experienced before. How could the mere mention of my name caress my skin? Kneeling before me, my doctor looked up at me, eyes serious, and mouth quirked in a sinister grin. “Are you going to sit here in silence?” At this demand, I nodded much to his pleasure. The hand he’d placed on my knee squeezed down and I whimpered. “Something wrong?”

“Foot hurts.” While it did, I lied through my teeth. I thought for sure that after that final warning he would back away. Stand and leave me the hell alone to reconcile what was happening within me.

I was wrong.

The hand on my knee slid down my bare calf and placed his warmth over the injured area. “Where?” Strong, yet smooth fingers wrapped themselves around my ankle and applied slight pressure. Checked for tenderness and guided his assessment on how much I flinched at the feather light touch. “Need verbal confirmation, Nora.” God, I wanted to, but while the pain intensified there was a low current of erotism in his touch. There was no way for me to contain the slight moan that begged to be released and I shook my head. Being denied, he leaned in and whispered, “Tell me. Or do I need to take you back and into my
private

office? Your choice.”

“No.” Dr. Reed looked at me expectantly. As if I’d made a cardinal sin, the single word answer was not enough for the beautiful man. He needed me to continue, but with everything else running through my mind, and my sudden submissive to his dominant behavior, for the first time in my life I was at a loss for words.

Never in my twenty years on this earth have I been the type of woman who bows her head and keeps quiet. Brought up in a home where my mother was outspoken and made no apologies for it. No pretenses. A
what you see is what you get
personality.

So why now? Since when did I bow to another’s will? No, that’s not right—not just anyone’s will, but
his
, a man I’d spoken a total of four words too?

“Next time I ask you a question I expect to be answered verbally. Not by nods or grimaces…can’t help you, if I don’t know what’s wrong.” Hazel orbs burned holes into the side of my face. I’d turned away, looked over toward the other occupants in the room who seemed to be having their own conversation. Two wore matching grins while the rest seemed hungry for gossip. This entire night was full of ridiculous moments. Surreal. “Understood?”

“Yes.” Back to one word, low and meek while I was at it. He seemed to rejoice in the sudden hold he had over me and I hated him for it.

“Don’t make me regret this, sweetheart.” Ignoring the choke gasp that left me, Dr. Reed released my leg back to the ground and stood. Patted me on the knee twice and walked over to them.

“Get me a wheel chair and prepare room four for her.” Stretching, he loosened the muscles in his neck and upper back. The ripples became pronounced through the thin material of his scrubs. Eyes wandering lower, they settled on his ass. Nice and round, enough to grab onto as he takes me over his desk.
Wait what?
No. I wasn’t going there. Couldn’t. “Order x-rays while you’re at it, I need to make sure that there was no break in the bone. Doesn’t feel like it, but then again, I’ll need to take a better look.”

“Of course, sir,” one nurse—a red head—answered, and turned away to follow up with his request. The other followed her companion, both with their heads tilted toward the other’s while they spoke in hushed whispers.

“Don’t I have a say?”

“And she speaks.” Sarcastic, his response had both the cop and his love interest snickering. Assholes. Reed turned toward my warden in the judicial sense and began to speak as if I were not here. Low murmurs that met my ears while nods were given and hands shaken.

I was in the middle of a negotiation that no one wanted me to take part of, yet, it concerned me in its entirety.

When it came to my care, I seemed to have no say in the matter according to him.

Doctor’s Orders…

“Wait a minute. I’m standing right here…discuss my care with me, not them.” Anger burned—a volcanic rush of ire rose within me and wanted to be released through a black cloud of insults. I was an adult, not a minor. Owed no one an explanation for my actions, and although, I didn’t want to disappoint my parents, it was out of respect that I didn’t punch these assholes in the mouth.

No later had the last syllable passed through my lips, when he turned in my direction. “I’ll deal with you in a minute.” Stopped me in my tracks, my arms which held my weight on the chairs armrest trembled from exertion. He dared me to stand. To come to him.

Long fingers pointed at me, with a simple up and down movement told me to not move.  Dismissed, and told me to sit as if I was a mere kindergartener and as such, I backed off like the good little girl I wasn’t.

What is wrong with me?

Once again he turned around giving me his back.

I admired the view as he spoke to Anderson, watched as he commanded the attention of every person within this room. Each who entered looked his way. Unintentional or not, his mere presence called you too.

An aura that exuded control; the desire to master everything within his reach. An alpha male in every sense of the word, and even though this bitch wanted to challenge, she knew when to stand down and lick her wounds.

So I sat and waited.

“What exactly happened tonight?  What injuries, other than her foot, need to be assessed?” My cheeks reddened. Knowing what was coming and accepting it were two very different things.

Embarrassing.

Anderson signed, shifting from foot to foot. Clearly uncomfortable. “Long story short; vandalized the school and when we showed up, she ran. I watched her slip, pole landing between…well,” he said the latter in a whisper while pointing down lower.

Reed’s head whipped my way and traversed my short frame. Even as I sat there in that hard, plastic chair I felt the heat from his stare. Felt as if his eyes were trying to melt away the thin layer of denim separating him from my bruised pussy.

“What else?” While speaking to Anderson, his attention was on me.

“You could imagine my horror when she just yelped in pain and tipped over.” Didn’t believe that statement, but the look on the cops face made me pause. Maybe he was more than just a uniform doing his job. Grimaced, his face contorted and his eyes looked far away. As if he was reliving the moment. “Caught her and she decided to fight my hold making us fall. Nora landed awkwardly on her foot. One minute she was standing and the next on the ground, couldn’t hold herself up. I know it’s not broken, but definitely sprained.”

“Has she complained?” That edge was back in his voice. Same one he’d addressed us with the moment he entered the E.R.’s department.

“I’m okay.” Low, I’d found my voice, but it still came off as meek. “Just bandage me up and I’ll be on my way.” Could probably still make it to the bonfire before ten and celebrate my birthday drunk.

“From where I stand,
Nora
,
” he spoke slow, hands at his side and fists opening and closing. “The contusion on your ankle is quite severe. And from the quick examination I made minutes ago, it’s a bit worse than a sprain. Need to take a closer look. X-rays have been called and you will comply. Add to that the other injury I was just informed of…you aren’t going anywhere.”

“Enough…” with reddened cheeks I begged him to stop “…please, just fucking stop.” Reed cleared his throat, a warning for my utter disrespect and use of the F-bomb. Couldn’t he see how humiliating this situation was for me?

What happened to making the patient feel comfortable and their choices respected?

His smirk answered my unspoken question. The bastard was enjoying my humiliation.

There was a spark in his eyes as he assessed me from head to toe and I began to feel naked. “We weren’t speaking to you.” Tone stern, had that melted chocolate like quality that made women moan. My panties dampened and the tinge of pink on my cheeks became heated.

Because of his animalistic charisma I now wore my own Scarlett Letter.

Red: color of sin and desire.

Spoke to everyone that saw me and made me feel bare before him.

This intense attraction and the way he made me feel didn’t sit well with me. Yet, I couldn’t find it in me to curse him out—express how infuriated I was with this fiasco of an E.R. visit.

His powerful aura had awoken something inside of me.

A want that I couldn’t control nor did I want to.
Fuck me.

“Reed,” I began, but the look on his face had me backtracking. Stupid raised brow. “Dr. Reed? Is that better?” It left me on a small huff.

A barely perceptible nod. “Try again?”

“Sir?” He nodded, pleased with my compliance while the officer, and the one nurse with nothing better to do, chuckled. Jerks.

“Look…” pushing up from my seat, I hobbled over to where they stood “…this is both uncomfortable and completely unnecessary. I don’t need to be seen or ‘assessed’ as you so eloquently put it. This isn’t my first, nor will it be my last sprain. I’ll ice the swelling, bandage, and keep it elevated. Easy to take care of and manage without your input.”

“Didn’t know I had a med student on my hands.” Again with the sarcasm from the beautiful specimen of a man.

Ignoring his comment, I chose instead to lay a hand over his bicep to hold myself steady. Squeezed the muscle there and enjoyed the way it flexed beneath my fingertips. Burned me. In essence, all I wanted was to gain his attention so I could seek understanding. That, and not fall on my ass.

Pain had intensified and my pussy wasn’t doing any better.

“Listen, I’ll be fine and take care of it on my own!” I yelped having had the floor swept from under me. Up in his strong arms, I found myself a breath away from his face. His exhale was my inhale.

“I’m taking her straight to the back and into room four. Officer, follow me. I’ll need you to stay with her while I set some things up.”

“Doctor your shift is over in ten minutes, I could get someone else to take the chart,” Flirty nurse tried, but didn’t get far with him.

His hold became tighter. “No.”

“Jackson,” she spoke low, trying not draw attention to the fact she revealed his first name. “Let Dr. Kemp take care of her and get some rest. You’re coming off a very long shift…he’ll take her case without a problem.”

“Go home, doctor. It’s okay,” Anderson interjected with a sigh; he probably felt as annoyed as I did. We’d been here for hours now and I still hadn’t been seen.

No, instead I found myself in his arms. Separation would make the jumbled mess I’d become since his apparition, clear. Maybe, I could go back to being me and happy.

Someone who just wanted to celebrate her birthday with a few friends, on the beach and with a few good shots of tequila. Dance under the stars and laugh. Enjoy being of legal age to drink and retire her fake I.D.

“Nonsense, I have time and I wouldn’t put
this

brat
in anyone else’s care. I love my staff too much.” Laughter came from the two, uninhibited this time. Fucking rude if you asked me.

“I’ll follow you to the back. Sooner she’s seen, faster I’ll have her booked.”

He has to be fucking kidding me.
“What part didn’t you understand? We didn’t vandalize anything!”

“Nurse,” my captor barked out capturing my attention.

“Yes, Dr. Reed?”

“Swipe your key card and get us through the back. It’s time I deal with her.”

“Of course, sir.” Without another word she turned and moved to do as he’d asked. She was followed close by a captivated Anderson who didn’t spare me a second glance.  As if I were invisible and my choices didn’t matter.

“I’m going to fix you, sweetheart.” Spoken low, wisp of a breeze against the side of my neck so no one else could hear. “And I think I’ll begin with that smart mouth of yours.”

I gulped.
