Garret rotated his beer bottle. The thing had been empty for
about fifty-five minutes. “It’s us. Trey and me. He sees you here with us and
can’t control himself any longer.”

Trey circled sections he’d written on the paper. “There’s a
pattern. He takes dozens of pictures for three or four days in a row, then
there’s nothing for months.” He looked from his brother to her. “Where is he
during those months?”

“And why didn’t he have pictures from when we were in
Chicago?” Garret looked at her.

“Or from Seattle. A year ago, the convention was there.” Her
worst fear during the past two years since he’d been out of prison was going to
the Comic Artists and Readers Conventions, last year in Washington state, this
year in Chicago, where she’d met the McGatlin brothers. “All that worrying and
positive self-talk to get myself to those conventions, and he’d been stalking
me at my home the whole time.”

“Maybe he didn’t have clearance to enter the US.” Trey wrote
a few notes on the page.

“Until now.” Garret stood and dropped his bottle into the
recycling bin.

The noise made her jump, but she covered it by getting to
her feet. “Are you hungry? Should I put the...” Her brain wouldn’t focus on
anything but her stalker. “Whatever Inez made.” She gestured toward the oven
and sucked back the fear that threatened to burst out of her in a scream.

Garret strode to her and pulled her into his arms. “Baby.
It’s okay.”

Behind her, Trey’s chair slid and his footsteps came closer.
“Are you hungry, Megan? Or do you want some tea? Another beer?”

“I couldn’t eat.” Her nerves tingled, like her sanity was
preparing to jump out of her skin. “I think I’ll lay down a while.”

“C’mon.” Garret kept an arm around her as he guided her up
the steps and into Trey’s bedroom.

She slipped into the bathroom and closed the door, pacing
across the gray and maroon room. What now? Things were escalating. Exactly the
way they’d happened in college with Hines. Next, he’d try to take her...

She covered her face with her hands then dropped them into
fists.

No, she was stronger than she was eleven years ago. This
time, she would defend herself, fight back, no matter what it cost her.

But what if getting to her meant going through Trey and
Garret? Could she live with herself if either of them was injured or killed?

Maybe her parents were right. Partially. If she truly loved
these men, shouldn’t she protect them? Acquiesce to Hines’s demands and leave
Texas? But not secretly. Blatantly, so he would follow. She’d talk with her
parents, sound out her ideas with them. Maybe hire security people in Alaska,
set a trap to actually catch Hines instead of just trying to keep him away.

She pulled open the bathroom door. Her men sat on the bed
staring at her. A cup of tea steamed on the nightstand.

She let out her breath—and her anxiety—on a sigh. These two
would probably follow her all the way to the North Slope. Squeezing in between
them, she sat and took their hands. “Nap?”

“Yeah.” Garret’s crooked smile set her heart beating faster.

Chapter Five

Trey kicked off his boots and set them in the corner of the
big bedroom. “You must be exhausted.”

Megan nodded and let Garret tug her onto the bed, the three
of them lay on their backs, shoulders touching.

“Do you want to talk some?” The words, from Garret’s mouth,
sounded foreign.

“No.”

“Want your tea?” Trey turned his head to see her.

“No.” She looked at him. “Thank you, though. I’ll drink it
later. After we finish.”

“Finish?” Garret sat up, propping himself on his elbow.

Megan bit her lip and wiggled. “Help me forget all the bad
stuff. Take my mind off it.”

“Gladly.” Garret reached for her.

“You sure, sweetheart?” Trey rolled on his side facing her
and stroked his knuckles along her cheek.

“I’m sure.” She sat up and the guys tugged off her shirt,
unhooked her bra and sent it sailing, then helped her wriggle out of her slacks
and underpants. “Um, why am I the only one naked here?”

Garret and Trey exchanged stares, nods, then turned her on
her side facing Garret. “This is going to be about you, baby.” Her hotshot
kissed her, his hand threading into her hair, tipping her head for better
access.

His tongue played along hers, drew it into his mouth.

She moaned as a soft ache hit her low in her belly.

Behind her, Trey’s rough hand skimmed along her ribs and
down her hips, then made the return trip and rested on her breast. He leaned in
and nibbled her shoulder as his fingers played lightly over her nipple. “Sexy.”

Garret licked the corner of her mouth. “Beautiful.”

“Ours.” Trey sucked her skin.

“That’s the best part.” Garret ran his hand between her
breasts and down to her belly. “You belong here.” He rubbed in slow circles.

His words, his touch, the intensity in his eyes, sent a
chill skimming over her skin. Belonging somewhere, to someone—two someones—gave
her a warmth in her chest she never wanted to do without.

Trey tugged on her nipple.

Electricity traced from her breast to her pussy. “Yes.” She
grabbed Garret’s shoulder with one hand, the other she placed on top of Trey’s
hand at her breast. “That’s good, cowboy.”

Behind her, he chuckled and pressed his chest against her
back, sliding his free hand between her and the bed to grasp her other nipple.
He tugged them both. “Twice as good?”

“Yes. Four hands are undeniably better than two.”

Garret winked at her. “That’s your way of telling me to get
busy?”

“Uh huh.” Megan lifted her top leg slightly. “You need help
figuring out where to put that hand?”

“Damn, Baby, you’re impatient.” He nibbled on her lip as he
eased his fingers down to her bare mound.

“Sheriff’s coming. No time for patience.” She flicked her
tongue on his lips and tipped her hips forward.

“So is our girl, in about thirty seconds.” Trey’s warm
breath stirred across her ear. Tingles of desire skittered down her spine. He
released one nipple and smoothed his palm down her ribs, over her hips, and
across her butt cheek.

Garret’s fingers slipped between her legs, stroking along
her sensitive pussy lips. “Wet for me.” The words rolled low and breathy.

Inside her core, her muscles shimmied.

Trey’s fingers on her nipple played and tugged while his
hand at her bottom stroked closer to her pussy.

As Garret slipped a finger into her canal, Trey lifted her
leg another inch, parting her for their pleasure.

Her hips jerked as sweet pangs of lust rolled through her
belly.

Garret’s finger eased out of her canal and moved upward,
finding her clit and bathing it in her lubricant. “All yours, Trey.”

Her cowboy bit her earlobe as his hand moved forward and a
thick digit—his thumb?—pressed into her slit, swirling in circles, making her
wild for more.

Withdrawing, he parted her butt cheeks and pressed the digit
to her anal opening, circling, probing inside with just the tip. “Yeah, she’s
wet, all right. Ain’t you, sweetheart.”

Her lips moved but all that came out of her mouth was a
moan.

Garret leaned in and kissed her, an open-mouthed kiss that
mingled their breaths. His finger on her clit circled slowly.

Megan’s brain began to click off, one cell after another as
warm ecstasy rippled in waves through her.

Trey’s thumb at her anal hole wiggled and slid in just to
the first knuckle. The stretching pleasure sent heat swirling around the base
of her spine. Easing two fingers forward, he pressed them into her slit.

She jerked and froze, letting the sweet touch send her
toward oblivion.

Trey groaned and sucked at the tender flesh under her ear.
His fingers at her nipple twisted and pulled.

Garret leaned in and sucked her other nipple into his mouth
as his finger on her clit jittered, sending streaks of delight to her brain.

Behind her, Trey’s fingers slid in deeper, tight into her
pussy, wiggling as they entered, and into her back hole, as far in as he could
get his thumb.

She shouted as she let go, sparks sizzling behind her
eyelids until darkness covered her, sealing her off from the world, silent and
perfect, her body hot and pumping as her lungs emptied of air.

For long moments, she drifted, total delight making her
weightless, lost.

Her lungs chose that moment to work again, and as they
sucked in air, her eyes opened, looking into the dark blue ones of her hotshot.
She smiled.

He chuckled. “Woman, where did you go?” He kissed her as he
cupped her mound in his warm palm.

Trey eased his fingers out of her canals and nibbled a path
to the nape of her neck. “Someplace close to heaven?”

Emotion, unexpected and too strong to ignore, swamped her
and her eyes filled with moisture. “Mm hm. A place close to heaven, called the
Silver Spur.”

“Aw, sweetheart.” Trey moved in closer, touching his
fully-clothed body to as much of her naked one as he could. He wrapped his arm
around her and pressed even closer.

Garret stared at her for a long moment then sighed. “Baby.
You know it.” He rolled closer, Trey moved his arm so his brother could
sandwich her from the other side. Garret flung an arm over her and his brother,
keeping them as close as they could get.

She let go of a few teardrops. The happy ones. Never again
would she let that bastard Hines put tears in her eyes, or fear in her heart.
She had something to fight for, now. Two men who offered her a future filled
with more than she’d ever dreamed she’d have.

Trey and Garret rolled onto their backs, and she did the
same in the middle. A chill shook her at the loss of body heat from her guys.

Garret pulled a blanket from the foot of the bed and covered
her. “You want to sleep?”

“No. But we should talk.” She’d throw her idea out, see what
they thought.

“Hm. That’s never good.” Garret stacked his hands behind his
head.

She smiled. They definitely wouldn’t like this one. “What if
we set up a trap for Hines.”

“With you as bait, I suppose.” Trey rolled to face her,
propping his head on his bent arm.

“Not here.” She couldn’t meet his gaze. “In Alaska. I’d
leave here very conspicuously, so he could see me go, then up north—”

“No.” Trey shook his head. “Too dangerous.”

“Let me finish.” She sat up, pulling the blanket over her
breasts, and scooted back against the headboard. Somehow, this felt more like a
position of power than laying between them.

Trey’s lips tightened. Garret sat up, his legs over the edge
of the bed.

“I’d hire a security team, undercover. When he showed up
there, we’d capture him.” She caught her men looking at each other.

“Let’s not make any changes right now.” Garret stood. “When
the sheriff gets here, we’ll get Dad up to the house. If we can get the Rangers
more involved, come up with a more aggressive plan, be more careful about
leaving you alone...” He hung his head.

Megan hated to see his guilt about the coffee shop. “That’s
the thing. I can’t expect you to follow me everywhere I go. You have lives.”
She gestured out the window at the ranch. “Jobs. Garret, aren’t you meeting
with your agent this week in LA?”

“Cancelled.” He glanced out the window. “I couldn’t leave.”
He locked his gaze on her. “Didn’t want to leave you.”

Her heart stuttered. She knew exactly how he felt.

Trey set his hand on her leg. “There’s nothing more
important to us...
nothing
...besides you. Your safety.”

The house phone rang. Neither man moved. “Are we okay?” Trey
sat up. “We’ll stay put for now, right?”

She nodded as he reached for the receiver.

****

Garret heard Trey talking to their dad as he left the
bedroom and walked down the stairs. This morning, he’d left Megan vulnerable so
he could relieve his frustration by tearing a chunk out of the sheriff’s hide.
He didn’t often let guilt drive him, especially with Trey always riding him to
help at the ranch. But what happened to Megan today would live on his
conscience for a long, long time. If not forever.

In the kitchen, he pressed the button on the stove that
would bring it up to temperature fast and pulled the foil-covered metal pan of
Inez’s grub out of the fridge. He read the directions and slid the pan into the
oven.

Placing his palms on the cool white marble of the counter,
Garret looked out at the ranch buildings. Clouds had rolled in while they were
upstairs. They could use some rain.

It scared the shit out of him to think of Megan luring Hines
up to Alaska, but maybe some of what she said was right. They had to think like
a maniac to catch one.

Overhead, the sound of water trickled. Was she taking a
shower?

Trey’s booted footsteps sounded behind him. “What are you
thinking?” He went to the coffee pot and set it up for a fresh batch.

“I fucked up.”

“We both fucked up.” Trey pressed the button and got the
coffee brewing. “Now we know we can’t leave her alone again. Either we or the
security staff need to be right there.”

Garret nodded. He’d give up every plan he had for the next
year to be next to her, protect her. “What did Dad say?”

“He’s calling the Rangers. Security’s going to let him know
when the sheriff gets here. He wants to come up to the house and be part of the
conversation.” Trey took the same posture as Garret, his hands on the counter.

Upstairs, the water stopped running.

“I think we should give her a pistol. Teach her to shoot
it.” Garret turned and leaned his hip on the counter.

Trey looked at him. “You saw her today. That fucker scares
the shit out of her. We’re better off sticking close to her than trying to
teach her to shoot.”

“Yeah. You’re probably right.” The stove beeped, letting
them know it was up to temp. “Beer?”

“No. I need to do some thinking.”

Garret frowned. “That’s new. Since when’ve you been doin’
that?”

Trey flicked him the middle finger with a half-smile. “Grab
that county map out of your office and let’s figure out where Hines is holing
up.”

Garret walked into the big office right next to the one Trey
used for himself. Trey had built the two offices when he’d expanded the ranch
house with the kitchen, and big upstairs bedroom. Garret hadn’t been in the
room in a year, and he jerked to a stop.

Their grandfather’s big wooden desk sat in the middle of the
room. Four leather wingback chairs faced the desk, and a swivel leather chair
sat behind it. The walls bore large, framed pictures of every generation of
their family.

The pull on Garret’s heart felt like an anchor being
dropped. Home. This was his place. His future. “Shit.” Why hadn’t he figured
that out before now?

On the desk, a rolled-up map of McGatlin County sat on top
of his dad’s old blotter. He’d spent a lot of pre-teen hours pretending to be
the boss and scribbling fake correspondence on ranch letterhead on that
blotter.

Grabbing the map, he strode back into the kitchen.

Trey filled two coffee cups. “Find it?”

“Couldn’t miss it. When did you move it from your office to
mine?” His brother could be a sneaky bastard.

Trey chuckled and set their cups on the table. “This
morning. Figured it was the only way to get you in there without using a
headlock.”

That chuckle got right on Garret’s nerves. “You’re a fucking
asshole.” He didn’t like to be manipulated. Didn’t like game playing. Even if
the results were exactly what Garret—and the Silver Spur—needed.

Trey’s neck turned red. “You’ve got a responsibility to this
ranch. This family.” His hands fisted at his sides. “You’ve been ignoring it
for too long.”

“Nothing has slipped here. You’re keeping up. What the fuck
do you need me here for?”

“Yeah, I’ve heard all your bullshit.” Trey narrowed his
eyes. “You’ve got your own life, and it ain’t here.”

That
had been
Garret’s line. Now, it wasn’t as strong
an argument for him. He was just in a piss-ass mood. His fuckup with Megan, his
brother’s accusations. He slugged Trey in the shoulder. “Let’s take this
outside.”

The corner of his brother’s mouth curved up. “Gladly.” He
cracked his knuckles.

Neither of them moved.

Megan walked into the kitchen. “Okay, I have to admit I’ve
been standing outside the room listening. I figured this was as good a time as
any to interrupt.”

Garret smacked his fist into his palm. “Sometimes, the only
way to clear the air is to draw some blood.” Strangely, now that Megan was in
the room, nothing seemed as infuriating as it had a minute ago.

Trey looked between him and Megan. “It can wait.”

“Don’t postpone it on my account, but don’t be gone long.”
She opened the oven and breathed deep of the spicy scent. “This is going to be
ready soon.”

Garret watched her. She’d already seen him and Trey getting
ready to beat the shit out of each other back behind the barn. Now, here they
were, winding up to do it again.
