The camera swung between them, and she might just have swatted it away if providence hadn’t intervened.

“Dolphins!” someone shouted, and everyone jumped up to look the other way.

Everyone but Mia, who kept up her death stare.

“Have you come all the way to Bonaire to embarass me some more?” she hissed just above the noise of the outboard.

Ryan’s head jerked from side to side. “I’ve come all the way to Bonaire to apologize.”

She barked something close to a laugh and leaned over him. Good thing she was standing and he was sitting; it was easier to pretend she was imposing that way.

“Right. Apologize. Do it,” she dared him.

“I’m sorry, Mia.” He breathed it like the breath of life, but she just scoffed.

“Great. A quiet apology, so nobody notices. Try it loud sometime, Ryan, so everyone can hear. Lay yourself bare. Strip your soul for everyone to see. Embarass yourself as badly as you can and you still won’t know what it was like for me. How humiliating.”

She’d never been this close to heaving a guest overboard. And hell, with all the adrenaline rushing through her system right now, she probably could lift his hundred-and-eighty pounds of muscle over the rail.

“I never meant to hurt you,” he murmured, and damn it if his voice didn’t stir something inside.
