Next time? She’d experienced the sensation from the human side with Duke. Jak was in over his head. “There can’t be a next time.”

He moved toward her, his cock stretching with each step he took. “If I give you blood, you can stay for the whole weekend.”

“No, it’s too dangerous. Animal blood keeps me alive. Human blood is like a drug, a craving that’s hard to control.”

His eyes glittering with desire, Jak removed her T-shirt. He cupped her breasts and thumbed her nipples. “I look at you and get hard. Let’s fuck.”

Jak was still feeling the blood-sex desire. He’d let her do anything, just like she’d let Duke feed while he rammed his big cock into her. She had to do for Jak what Duke hadn’t done for her. Fuck him to exhaustion and control her thirst.

She led him into the bedroom. He slanted his head and leaned down to kiss her. “Don’t. Your lip is still swollen and you have your big meeting tomorrow.”

“Suck me. I want to feel your fangs on me.”

She grasped his swollen cock and ran her fingertips over the burgeoning veins. Now that she’d tasted him, controlling her blood thirst tested her in ways impossible for him to imagine. “Don’t tempt me, Jak.”

Azza climbed onto the bed and deliberately presented her ass to him. If she fucked him face-to-face, she’d be tempted to taste him. Balancing her weight on her hands and knees, she swayed her ass. “Fuck me, Jak. Take me from behind. That way I can’t lose control and bite you.”

He climbed behind her and instead of shoving his cock into her Jak palmed her ass and caressed her thighs. He dipped his fingers inside her pussy, fucking her slowly with his fingers. “You’re so soft, so silky wet.”

Vampire pussy wasn’t usually hot and wet and plumped with blood like human pussy. It was slick and cool if the vampire fed regularly. But human blood, even the small amount she’d taken from Jak had made her wet.

She loved the slow slide of his long fingers, so warm and sensitive.

He removed his fingers and nudged the broad head of his cock inside her. “My cock is throbbing, aching.” Instead of thrusting hard, he teased her, driving her mad by dipping the head inside and pulling back. “You feel so good.”

Azza rocked back, forcing his blood engorged cock deeper, but Jak gripped her hips. “Don’t rush it.” He thrust, pushing inside her just an inch or two, then retreating. “I want to fuck you slow, make it last.”

She shivered and dug her nails into the mattress, ripping through the sheet and fabric. Jak took his time, taking her in slow strokes until he was buried to the root.

He stilled and inhaled sharply. “Gotta make it last.”

His lack of movement made Azza intensely aware of the blood pulsing in the veins lacing his cock. She moaned, a tingling climax sweeping through her.

Jak shuddered, easing back and pulling her against him as he slipped his thighs beneath hers. He splayed one hand on her belly and lifted her. Her back was pressed against his chest and her thighs rested on his. He tucked his chin at the side of her neck, anchoring her in position.

He pushed up with his thighs, lifting them both, then dropping back in an erotic pushup that drove his cock straight up toward her belly button. He wrapped his arms around her, tugged a nipple with one hand while teasing her clit with the other.

Azza was surprised Jak chose a position favored by the old male vampires. Fucking in this position required strength and the erotic angle was satisfying to both male vampire and female victim. When the moment of ecstasy arrived, the vampire would strike, sinking his fangs into her neck.

But Jak wasn’t about taking blood, but giving her satisfaction. For the first time since she’d become a vampire, she was at the mercy of a human. Jak was in control, the master of her pleasure.

His forefinger circled her swollen clit in fast, tight circles bringing forth a mind-blowing climax.

Perspiration slicked his hot skin, trickling down onto her shoulders, running in tiny rivulets over her breasts. His breath was ragged. The muscles in his arms, belly and thighs were tensed. He held her tight, fucked her with slow, passionate precision.

Azza shivered on the verge of another climax.

“I’m on the edge,” he whispered. “I love you, Azza. Come with me.”

He thrust upward, hard and deep. His grip on her breast tightened and his fingers dug possessively into her tight thatch of curls. Her pussy convulsed.

He shuddered. “Fuck, I’m coming.” He thrust, once, twice, stilled, then slumped back.

Their energy spent, they collapsed on the mattress. Jak was sucking air into his lungs and Azza was fighting sleep. Vampires were super strong as long as they fed regularly and slept during the day. Azza needed to sleep, regain her strength before sneaking back into the Cemetery.

She never knew exactly what she’d encounter, cops on the outside and horny vampires on the inside. It wasn’t uncommon for a female stinking of human male to be assaulted by three or four vampires. Defend or participate was the code. Azza always chose to fight, so she had to remain strong. “I need to rest.”

Jak kissed her forehead. “Sleep. I’ll watch over you.”

Azza smiled and fell into a deep sleep.

Chapter Seven

Jak paced. Azza hadn’t moved in hours. Her skin was colder than usual and she was dead still. It was mid August and hot. Jak was sweating buckets, but he didn’t dare open a window. Understanding he’d have to tough it out until nightfall, Jak took a cold shower.

He had another peanut butter sandwich and drank a cold beer. Drowsy, he curled up next to Azza, loving the coolness of her skin, and slept.

When his eyes blinked open, he was sprawled across Azza. Jak sat up, turned on the lamp and rolled out of bed. His guest was still asleep.

He stretched, walked into the bathroom and showered. After he’d dried off, combed his hair and brushed his teeth, Jak checked on Azza. She was awake and staring at his cheap wristwatch.

“It’s already ten.” Azza placed the watch on the bedside stand. “I have to be back at midnight. I’m sorry I slept so long.”

Jak climbed onto the bed and draped an arm around her shoulders. “We still have a couple of hours together. I like having you here.”

Azza laid her head on his shoulder. “Did you mean it? Or was it just sex talk?”

“I meant it.” Jak kissed her hair. “I love you, Azza.”

“Despite the eternity factor?”

“Most of us humans live day to day. I won’t give you up.” He thought about the places he’d lived, not one he truly called home. And the people in his life were transient figures. Love was a precious commodity in Jak’s world. “I’ve learned the hard way to appreciate the moment.”

She sat up and climbed onto his lap, straddling his thighs. “I love you, Jak.” She shook her head. “Are we crazy? What we have, there’s no future in it.”

“We’ve got now. Let’s not waste a second.”

Looking into one another’s eyes, Jak entered her in one slow thrust. He took her hands in his and held them in a tight grip while she rode him, slow and easy, then fast and hard.

Sweat blanketed his skin, but hers remained cool. While his breathing became ragged, hers was soft with a sigh or moan. They were as different as the sun and the moon, but they needed one another.

Hold onto the moment. Don’t think about forever
.

The mantra remained in his mind as he drove down the isolated street adjacent to the Cemetery. He glanced at Azza. “You’ll come for my birthday?”

“I’ll try my best. Good luck tomorrow. I’m happy for you, Jak. I hope you get a great job.”

He reached out and took her hand. “Thanks. I’ll be waiting for you, Friday night, at eleven fifty-nine, exactly.”

“If I don’t show at midnight, leave. It’s dangerous here. As soon as I close the door, go. Get out of here and don’t stop for anyone. Only vampires lurk here.” She gave his hand a gentle squeeze and let go. “Stop here.”

Jak braked. “I love you, Azza.”

“I love you, too.” She climbed out of the car. “Drive.”

She closed the door and Jak pressed on the gas. He glanced in the rearview mirror. Azza was gone. He saw movement out of the corner of his eye, a shadowy figure moving along the street. The engine protested as he shoved his foot down on the accelerator.

Three blocks away he spotted a DSA vehicle, its UV spotlights flashing along the sidewalk and on the buildings. Praying Azza was safely inside the Cemetery, he headed for home.

Jak approached the placement officer’s desk. He brushed his palm against his thrift store slacks and extended his hand. “Thank you for the appointment, Mr. Baxter.”

Baxter gave him the once over, his gaze flicking over Jak’s clothes. The pants, shirt, jacket and tie were the best he could afford. Jak hoped the job wouldn’t require business attire.

Instead of shaking his hand, Baxter shoved several sheets of paper at him. “You’ve been assigned. The agency address is on the paperwork. Orientation begins in an hour. Don’t be late.”

Jak took the papers, thanked Baxter and hustled out of the office. His heart was pounding by the time he reached the waiting area where he’d sat for over two hours. He had a job. A real job. Even if he was pushing a vacuum he was one lucky son of a bitch.

Jak strode to the elevator and pushed the call button. He inhaled a deep breath and looked at the papers. He read the first line and his heart sank. It wasn’t possible. Fate wouldn’t deliver him so cruel a blow.

He squeezed his eyes shut and looked again. He’d been assigned to the Dead Souls Agency.

Chapter Eight

“Are you sure you want to do this?”

Reeni had tried her best to talk Azza out of going to see Jak, but no way was she missing Jak’s birthday. “I promised him.”

“The rave is going down tonight. I don’t want to go alone.”

“The cops raided the last rave. I think you should skip this one.”

“I’ll think about it.”

Azza hugged Reeni, thankful to have such a good friend. “I’ll only be gone a few hours. I’ll be back at four.”

“Be careful.”

Azza slipped through the door. Excited to see Jak, she hustled through the tunnel. Within minutes, she was outside the Cemetery, rushing toward Jak’s vehicle. She opened the car door and climbed inside. “Happy birthday.”

Jak leaned over and kissed her, a hard brief kiss, then he took off, racing down the block. “I was afraid you wouldn’t make it.” He was gripping the steering wheel so tight his knuckles were white.

“What’s wrong?”

“Everything. I don’t think you should be outside the Cemetery tonight.”

“I was only going to stay out until four.”

Instead of heading toward his apartment Jak turned onto a street paralleling the Cemetery.

“This isn’t a safe area, Jak.”

Jak grabbed her hand and held onto it as if his life depended on it. “I know, but I don’t want you trapped on the outside.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I was hired by the DSA.”

Fear shot through Azza. No wonder he was agitated.

“I wait years for a fucking job, willing to do anything, clean toilets, sweep the street with a toothbrush and I end up working for the Dead Souls. The powers of the universe must hate me.”

“Don’t take the job.”

“That was my plan, but something happened in my orientation that made me hang in this week. The DSA knows about the tunnel. We’ve been training all week, to provide perimeter security while a demo team blows it up.”

If the tunnel was destroyed she’d never get out again. She’d never see Jak again. Azza had to warn the vampires. “When is this going to happen?”

“I don’t know, exactly.” He pulled a slender electronic device out of his pants pocket. “They issued the trainees a pager. When the alarm sounds, I’m supposed to report to the local station. I was scared the damn thing would go off before I saw you. Before I could warn you.” He shoved the pager back in his pocket.

“I’ve got to get back. Reeni is thinking about going to the super rave tonight.”

“Fuck. I bet it’s going down tonight.”

“Tonight?”

“My sergeant mentioned the super rave. He told us a big rave was planned to coincide with the destruction of the tunnel. The DSA doesn’t want the public to know the tunnel existed, so the explosion will be blamed on the illegal rave.”

“Take me back. I’ve got to warn Reeni and the vampires. Any vampire caught outside is toast.”

He turned around and headed back to the street where he’d picked her up. “I love you, Azza. Fuck, I don’t want to lose you.”

She couldn’t stay out and Jak would never survive inside. “I love you, Jak. I wish we could be together. Maybe, someday, there’ll be another way out.” How many weeks, months or years would pass before a safe route was found?

Jak stopped the car in the same spot where he’d picked her up. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

Azza clung to him. Her insides twisted in pain and her chest hurt. Tears of blood seeped from her eyes. She pushed away from Jak. It was risky for him to remain longer. “You’ve got to get out of here.”

“I’m resigning from the DSA. I won’t participate in the raid. I can’t bear the thought of burning vampires with UV wands or tossing them in jail because they’re having sex with humans.”

Azza caught a flicker of movement, dark shadows moving toward the car. Two vampires were slinking along the building, one on each side of the street. “Vampires.”

“Where?”

“I’m going to get out of the car and climb onto the roof. Drive as fast as you can.”

“You’ll get hurt.”

“Fuck, Jak. You’re the one in danger.”

Azza opened the door. “Drive!”

The car took off. Using her vampire strength and speed, Azza vaulted onto the roof. The vampires chased after the car. One leaped at her. She’d seen him before. Roach was a nasty fucker, a street thug in his old life, but he hadn’t been dead long. He wasn’t as strong as she was and his skills were pitiful. Azza’s foot met Roach’s chin, sending him flying backward.

The second vampire attacked from the side. Koz was Roach’s friend. Azza grabbed him by his long black hair, swung him around and sent him slamming into a building. She jumped off the car roof and waited to see if Roach or Koz would bother to come at her again.
