“Carlos, I won’t last long,” Reed
confessed.

He felt his cock hit the back of
Carlos’s throat. Carlos withdrew his mouth in one smooth motion, taking a few
seconds only to deep throat him again. Fuck. Reed was impressed. So was his
body.

He jerked Carlos’s head back and
his orgasm swept him away. Strings of his warm cum decorated Carlos’s smooth,
bronze chest, and the ground beneath him fell away. Pleasure rode every fiber
of his body, flooding and coursing through him like a furious force of nature.
Reed gasped, jerked, and twitched.

He hadn’t felt this good in ages.

When reality swam back at him, he
found Carlos was watching him. Reed’s gaze dropped to the Alpha’s swollen cock.
He imagined Carlos’s enormous long shaft filling him to the brim and claiming
his body like it did in the past.

“Fuck me, Carlos,” he whispered.
“Please.”

“It’s about time,” Carlos agreed.

The Alpha helped turned him over
and placed him on his hands and knees. Reed expected force and
roughness,
however Carlos’s touch was firm but steady. Anger
no longer rolled off him. Only desire possessed his former mate as he gripped
and palmed one of Reed’s ass cheeks.

“I need to get the lube.”

Chapter Three

“What the fuck am I doing?” Carlos
stared at the lube in his hand.

A conflicting mess of emotions
brewed inside him. One moment he wanted to tear Reed apart and the next he
wanted to fuck him. It felt right too, touching Reed and feeling the Beta
squirming beneath him.

Time hadn’t dulled or erased the
memory and feel of Reed’s skin against him. If anything, years apart only
sharpened his desire and longing to a fine keen edge. Carlos badly wanted to
believe and trust Reed’s words, but how could he trust the man who had torn his
heart and soul in half?

His wolf may be fast and eager to
forgive their lost mate, but the man was far from convinced. Carlos wouldn’t
jeopardize and risk his pack so he could have his mate. It just wasn’t done.

Reed was probably just playing with
him. Clutching the lube, Carlos went back out. He expected the Beta to be gone.
This was a trick, a test to see if the Alpha of the New Haven Pack was a weak
and sentimental fool.

The backyard wasn’t empty. Reed was
still waiting, his delicious lean body offered only to him. His brittle heart
shattered at the sight. How many times had he come home to his mate waiting
like this for him all those years ago?

Think
later. Fuck now.
Did I tell Reed I’d
claim him again? Didn’t I say I’d make him mine again? Am I arrogant enough to
believe I’m capable of doing such a thing?

Worry nagged at him, but they
seemed insignificant. Positioning himself behind Reed, Carlos began palming and
massaging one of Reed’s ass cheeks.

“Tell me again how much you want
me, Reed.”

“I’m so hard for you right now,
Carlos,” Reed whimpered when he traced his finger around the thick muscles of
Reed’s asshole.

Wanting to see if he was telling
the truth, Carlos’s hand zoned in on the other man’s cock. It was long, smooth,
and steel-hard, like Reed said. Just curling his fingers around the thick
length was enough to make Reed gasp.

Carlos began to pump him, using his
pre-cum to slather and wet his length. He wasn’t a man who was satisfied by
simply taking his pleasure from others, giving his mate pleasure gave him equal
satisfaction.

Being Alpha to the New Haven pack
ensured he never ran out of bodies to toy and fuck with, but none of the men
and women he’d fucked were able to make his body react the way Reed did.

Fucking them only made him emptier
and more aware of the missing part of his heart. He knew taking Reed was wrong
on a number of levels, but he didn’t care. Carlos had enough of thinking. He
wanted to be a slave to the desires of his flesh, heart, and wolf.

The golden beast inside him writhed
and thrashed, wanting to feel being inside its lost mate again. The wolf didn’t
care about human emotions and human hurts, and for the moment, so did Carlos.

“Carlos,” Reed whispered.

Reed’s body may have become leaner
and harder over the years, but Carlos still knew each mole and dimple. He knew
which parts of Reed to caress and touch. A few frenzied strokes were enough for
the other man’s orgasm to climb, but Carlos withdrew his fingers just before
Reed reached his edge.

“Please,” Reed
pleaded,
frustration evident in his voice at his denied pleasure.

“You’re only to come when I tell
you to, Reed.”

“Bastard.”

Carlos smiled at the witty reply
and began to coat his fingers with a generous amount of lube. Reed ceased
complaining once he felt Carlos’s cold and wet finger over the tight ring of
muscles. Carlos spread more lube over Reed’s asshole, slapping his ass when he
wriggled impatiently at him.

“Relax yourself for me, Reed. Show
me how much you crave cock.
My cock.”

The muscles relaxed under his
voice.

Carlos slipped one finger in and
then a second. Reed growled low, thrusting his hips at Carlos’s hand. Carlos
scissored his fingers inside Reed’s entrance, taking his time.

“Carlos.” Reed moaned his name deep
and low.

“Patience, Reed.”

Once he was certain the other man
was ready for his entry, Carlos nudged the head of his cock a few inches in.
Reed’s muscles contracted wonderfully around his cock, tight and nice.

“Touch yourself while I fuck you,”
he commanded.

Reed obeyed without being told
twice. Carlos could see Reed’s other hand moving to pump his tormented cock.

Carlos made his way inside Reed’s
opening inch by inch until his balls touched the curve of Reed’s ass. Reed let
out a moan, and Carlos could see he increased his hand movements over his cock.

“Remember what I said, Reed?”

Carlos was answered by a tormented
whimper, and Reed’s hand movements slowed.

“Carlos, please.”

“What do you want, Reed?”

“I want to feel you moving inside
me.
Now.
Please.”

Holding his hips in a bruising grip
Carlos knew Reed liked, he began to ease his way out of his former mate only to
slam himself again in. There was no resistance. The slide was smooth and slick.

A pleased moan came from Reed.

“Work me harder, Carlos,” Reed pleaded.

Hunger and desire shot right into
his core and his firm, eager cock. Carlos happily complied. In the past, Reed
always liked it a little hard and
rough,
and it
appeared he hadn’t changed. Reed’s willing submission pleased him a good deal,
so Carlos didn’t hold back.

He drove into his mate, each thrust
more intense and deeper than the one before.

With the joining of their bodies,
their wolves were also joined again. Never before had Carlos could feel the
intensity of their mate bonds. Their wolves yipped, danced, and yielded to each
other like two missing halves made whole again.

It felt like all the wounds Reed’s
abandonment had caused were healing at an astonishing speed.

Carlos’s metaphysical bestial
energy coursed, pulsed, and spilled outward. Reed gasped, this time in
surprise. He wondered if Reed felt him and all the wolves connected to him.

Pleasure speared through Carlos’s
entire body. It thrummed and poured across his skin and burned deep inside him.
The sky, the backyard, and everything else no longer ceased to matter

The only thing he cared about was
Reed panting and pleading as he offered his body up to Carlos.

“Tell me who you belong to, Reed,”
Carlos demanded, his voice sounding rough and uncontained. He needed to hear
Reed’s words before his own pleasure was driven to the edge.

“You.
I’ve
always belonged to you and no one else, Carlos,” Reed gasped.

The other man’s admission made
Carlos grip at Reed’s flesh hard. He was aware of his thumping heart, which was
never a good thing given his high cholesterol levels. It felt like a trapped
creature eager to be free, but he couldn’t do anything about it now.

“Come, Reed. Come for me.”

Reed expelled a shuddering sigh and
exploded. Carlos hammered into Reed one last time and his own orgasm swept him
away just seconds later. Opening his mouth, Carlos let out a triumphant howl,
as he let waves of pleasure ride his body.

He felt it spill out of him like a
warm liquid glow. Every muscle in him shuddered and quivered with pleasure.

“Fuck, Reed.”

Carlos slowed his breathing as the
world swam back into focus. He found Reed on his knees in front of him. Reed’s
hands were pressed over his knees, and his eyes were wide and vulnerable with
emotion.

“I meant what I said, Carlos. After
you, I’ve never taken another mate. I belong to you and will always belong to
you. Distance and time doesn’t change anything.”

The words pouring out of Reed were
the last words Carlos expected and wanted to hear. He couldn’t risk his heart
again. Carlos knew he wouldn’t survive.

“Shut up. Stop lying to me.” Carlos
gripped his hair, but Reed didn’t stop.

Ignoring his grip, Reed slid his
palms upward and rested them on Carlos’s upper thighs.

“No matter how long it takes for
you to forgive me, I’ll wait.”

Carlos broke. He was ripped into
two.

“You’re playing a sick game, Reed.”

Anger flickered in the other man’s
eyes.

“I offered you my life and you
rejected it. Tell me what else I can do to prove myself to you and I’ll do it.”

“You can start by telling us what
Jax is planning.”

It wasn’t Carlos who spoke.

Pissed at the presence of an unwanted
audience, Carlos jerked his head to growl at Don, “Fuck off, why are you idiots
here? Didn’t I tell you to wait outside the house?”

The enforcer looked unperturbed,
amused even. Beside him, Derrick was bright red. Terrence cleared his throat,
his dark eyes assessing and contemplating the scene before him.

“Well, boss, we were worried for a
second about the interesting sounds coming from your backyard.” Derrick bit his
lower lip. “
Your…
uh pleasure reverberated through the
pack bonds.”

Reed calmly got off his knees,
brushing leaves and dirt off him. Carlos mutely grabbed the other man’s wrist,
making sure he wasn’t going anywhere.

“Don’t get me wrong, boss. It felt
good.
Really good.”

“Just shut up, Derrick,” Terrence
said, and the big wolf wisely did.

Carlos expected Reed to bolt, to
put up a fight, but his mate only gave his enforcers a steady look before
looking at him. “I’ll tell you everything I know.”

Chapter Four

Reed talked. He didn’t leave out a
thing. The New Haven wolves probably knew by now Jax and the rest of the Starr
Mountain Pack had formed a blockade just outside the town, preventing any wolf
or human from entering or leaving.

Whether Carlos had forgiven him or
not, Reed no longer cared. He knew Carlos had changed over the years, but some
aspects of the man hadn’t, and the Alpha could hold a grudge for a long time.
Unfortunately, Reed no longer had the luxury of time.

Don whistled after Reed finished
explaining what Jax intended. “The bastard never wanted to settle this cleanly.
He always had the intention to slaughter us.”

“Sounds just like Jax,” Derrick
agreed. The Beta looked glum. “They said my father was a good and honorable
Alpha once, but those days are gone.”

“We won’t be going without a
fight,” Terrence pointed out.

He listened to what Carlos’s
enforcers were saying. While the Alpha of any pack ultimately made the final
decisions, it seemed Carlos still listened to the advice of his Betas. Only
Carlos hadn’t spoken. While Reed knew he was paying attention to the conversation,
he felt the Alpha’s heated gaze on him.

A familiar frown was affixed on
Carlos’s handsome face and in the past, Reed would’ve gone up to him and kiss
the corners of his mouth just to see him smile again. It was no longer the past
though, and he had to face the consequences of the present.

“What will you do now, Reed?” Don
finally asked.

“If I’m not a hostage, I’ll head
back to Jax and my pack.”

He saw Carlos’s eyes narrow at his
words.

“Why should we believe every word
this bastard has said? If he thinks we’re just going to let him crawl back to
his Alpha,” Terrence began.

“Either way, Jax is going to smell
Carlos’s scent on you, Reed. He’s going to take that as a betrayal,” Don
pointed out.

“I know, but I have an obligation
to my pack. I’m still his second, even if I’ve failed him and I’m not going to
run away with my tail between my legs.”

Reed knew he told Carlos only
minutes ago he’d do everything he could to convince him he had changed, but it
was only wishful thinking. He’d done all he could by warning Carlos about Jax.
It was all he could really do.

They weren’t young men and
werewolves not tethered to any pack with all the time in the world. They each
had their own packs to take care of, and even though Jax was a bastard, Reed
would abide by his obligation to him.

“You ran away before, coward. You
ran away from Bonnie and you ran away from me.”

“I’ve changed too, Carlos. I’ve
always placed the needs of the Starr Mountain Pack before mine, but this time I
placed my needs first. Didn’t you say you wanted to claim me again?”

“There’s too much shit between us,
Reed. You can try to convince me we can both change, but ‘I’ isn’t ‘we’.”

Carlos’s words still hurt, Reed
realized with a pang. There was too much history between them. Too many
half-healed emotional wounds they could poke and re-open. There was simply too
much poison between them. He realized he’d been deluding himself into thinking
Carlos would want him back and forgive him, but it was also his fault for
believing they could patch things up.
