Kyle looked down at what she had given him and just stared at it.

“Do you know what you have in your hand there buddy?” Aaron had come over to look at it with him.

“Not a clue. Am I supposed to?” He looked up at him and noticed the other men grinning at him.

“Hummm, I’d say she thought you should. It seems Maddy’s pregnant. See that little plus sign, that means she’s—” Aaron stopped talking. Kyle didn’t need to hear the rest.

“Go away, I’m not finished being mad at you yet.” She was in the bathroom on the floor crying.

“Madison, are you…are we…shit Madison a baby.” He went in picked her up and sat her onto his lap as he sat on the toilet.

“You made me mad. I wanted to tell you tonight. I wanted it to be a surprise.”

“It is, and I couldn’t be happier. I love you Madison Shelby Dixon. And I’ve never been happier than I am right now.”

“I have this too.” She handed him the glowing job reference from Sherman and sat still as he read it.

“Do you not want to work for us anymore?” He stood up as he asked and carried her out to the bedroom. He laid her gently on the bed and then laid down beside her.

“I wasn’t…I…we live here, and I didn’t know…I know you can hold down a day job and I’m not a bad lawyer, just inexperienced. So I thought I’d work until we could find us a house, or something.”

“Honey, do you think we’re poor? Because we aren’t. We are very, very, very wealthy.

I’ve had fourteen hundred years to invest and collect, and save my money, just for you. I don’t think we’ll run out of money in several lifetimes, or more for that matter. I stay here because Aaron is my friend, but if you’d rather we stayed elsewhere, then we can certainly afford to move anywhere you want, be anywhere you want, love.” He pulled her closer. He loved the feeling of her body next to his.

“No, here is fine. But I want a place before junior is born.” She yawned then, big and deep.

They snuggled for a little while, his hand on her flat belly. She was nearly full asleep when the knock came at the door.

“Tell them to go away, I’m sleepy.” She buried deeper into his neck, signing heavily when the knock became a pound. Kyle walked over and yanked the door open to snarl only to have everyone barge right in.

“So you thought to just give us this information and get away with going too fast?” Aaron didn’t look mad to Kyle, but sometimes, like now it was hard to tell.

“Frankly, I don’t care what you think about my speeding, or my driving for that matter,”

Maddy answered him with another yawn. “You may be old enough to be my fathers, fathers, fathers, fathers, fathers, or however many you might be, but you aren’t, so back the fuck off.”

“Ouch! Damn girl you go right for the jugulars don’t you?” Bradley had slid into the room too. Kyle was beginning to think Maddy was right, they needed their own place.

“You do realize that the father of your baby is as old as I am, don’t you?” Aaron pointed out.

“Yeah, I know. Good to know
he’s
not shooting blanks, huh? Good thing for Mrs.

MacManus you had one left in the old pistol.”

“Why you little—” Aaron started for her.

“Keep back, you bloodsucking corpse! I mean it. I’m not in the mood to fuck with you today.” Maddy had backed herself in a corner, both literally and figuratively and Kyle thought he’d like to see who came out the winner. Aaron kept going toward her.

When he stood before her, she put up her tiny fists as if to fight him. He looked down at them. Moving them out of his way, he pulled her to him and hugged her tight.

“Ah Maddy, I knew you’d be a worthy adversary the moment I saw you. I’m so happy for you and Kyle. And I’m not a corpse.” He pulled back, but still held her in his embraces.

“Thank you for what you’ve done for us, we are going to accomplish so much with your help.

And just for the record, I love the name ‘Blood Moon’.”

“You’re not mad? I don’t understand you Mr. MacManus. I really don’t. But you’re starting to grow on me.”

“Good, then will you please start calling me Aaron? I am old, but to have you call me that makes me positively want to break something.”

“Yeah, I know. A girls gotta have fun,” she told him with a cheeky grin.

Kyle leaned back against the door and sighed. “Do you think you assholes could get the fuck out of here? I’d like to make love with my mate and we don’t need an audience.”

The men all left and Kyle made his way back to the bed and Maddy. He started taking off his shirt and dropped it to the floor before he reached her. “Now, where were we?”

About the Author

I woke up one morning and decided to give play time to the people in my head who were keeping me awake. Little did I know that they would be so relentless and want their time right now! I wrote for the pure joy of it and to entertain my family and friends. But mostly it was to get more than an hour of sleep without a story playing out. Of course, the more I write, the more they want. So…well, as a result of sleepless days (I work through the night as a gun toting grandma — nope not a vigilantly but an armed security guard) I have lots of stories written.

Hello! My name is Kathi Barton and I’m an author. I have been married to my very best friend Sonny for at times seems several lifetimes — in a good way, honey.

And together we have three wonderful children and then the ones we brought into the world — Paul and Dale Barton, Jason and Wendy Barton and Danielle and Ben Conklin. They have given us seven of the greatest treasures on Earth. They don’t live at home seven days a week! No, seriously, seven grandchildren — Gavin, Spring, Ben, Trinity, Sarah, Kelly and Kian.
