Blake and I both freeze as my sister’s sobs fill the air. He’s so stunned that I’m able to roll off the bed, without him stopping me. As I rush toward Alex, I see Trix standing behind her. Brew is staring at me, his eyes an angry shade of brown. Boz and Smoke are also standing in the doorway. Each man has a pistol in their hand, pointing at Blake. I have no idea how or why they are here. Right now, I really don’t care about anything or anyone but my sister.

I ignore them all as I head straight to Alex. “I’m sorry, so, so sorry.”

Suddenly, the room fills with the sounds of Blake’s laughter. “You weren’t sorry when you were getting off, with my cock buried deep inside you.”

My entire body vibrates with shame as I pull Alex into my arms. “I tried to keep you safe. I was willing to do anything to keep you safe.”

“But, I wanted to keep you safe.” My sister looks me in the eyes as tears pour down her cheek. “Everything I did was to make sure you had a future.”

The words barely leave her mouth, before she lets out another scream. This one is filled with pain of a different variety. She clutches her stomach and lets out a moan. At the same time, a gush of water hits the floor.

“The baby,” she shouts, letting out another pain-filled moan. “It’s too early for this. She can’t come yet, not right now. We have to be gone first.”

“No, no, no,” I chant, trying to wrap my head around everything that is happening. “You have two weeks to go. We had everything planned.”

“Trix and I will get her to the hospital,” Boz says as he puts away his gun and picks my sister up, holding her like a child. “Smoke, you make sure this fucker doesn’t follow us.”

“I can handle that,” Smoke says, walking toward the bed.

Boz then turns to Brew and orders, “Get your shit locked down, brother. Then take care of your woman.”

As if Boz’s words were what Brew needed, he rushes forward and pulls me into his arms. “Oh, baby. Why didn’t you tell me?”

I look up at him and get lost in his beautiful hazel eyes for just a moment. “I didn’t want you to hate me, the way I hate myself.”

He blinks at me then buries his head in my hair. “I couldn’t hate you, Little Red. Haven’t you figured it out yet? I’m falling in love with you.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Brew

ADDY HAS
been asleep in my arms for hours. A few minutes after we got to the hospital, Trix gave her a valium, something I didn’t even know my woman took on a regular basis. Within minutes, she was out, and she’s been sleeping against my chest ever since. I hope it’s something she’ll be doing on a regular basis from now on.

As soon as that thought crosses my mind, Smoke walks into the waiting room. His eyes lock on mine, and he motions toward the hall. As much as I hate letting her go, I know I have to find out what happened to the fucker that hurt her and her sister. Hopefully, there is enough left of him that I can get a piece. I carefully stand up and carry her over to the couch Boz and Trix are sitting on.

After laying Addy down, I look over to the woman I am proud to call my friend and ask, “Will you watch her for me, please?”

“I’ve been watching over her since we were kids,” she says, lifting her tear-filled eyes. “Obviously, I haven’t been doing a very good job.”

The pain in Trix’s voice is so clear that it nearly cuts through me like a knife. I wonder if I sound the same to everyone else. I wonder if my pain is so easily heard, and they all know how bad I fucking regret letting Addy leave the clubhouse.

“Darlin’, don’t take this shit on,” Boz says, pulling her closer to him. “If I know anything about Red, she would hate to know you’re hurting right now.”

“He’s right,” I tell her, hoping she’ll actually listen. “She would kick your ass if she saw you crying over this shit.”

Trix doesn’t reply, just buries her head in Boz’s chest and continues to cry. He motions for me to go to Smoke then places a kiss on the top of her head. I turn away, just as he starts to whisper to her. I’m out the door before I hear a word of what he has to say.

When I get into the hallway, I find Smoke leaning against the wall. His eyes come to mine, and he shakes his head. He pushes off the wall and starts walking down the hall. A second later, he’s leading me out the door and pulling two cigarettes out, one for me and one for him.

“You didn’t kill him, did you?” I ask, wanting to make sure I get my revenge.

“No, but he probably wishes he was dead,” Smoke answers, putting a cigarette in between his lips. “I’m figuring an ambulance will be bringing him in any minute. He’s hurting, but he’ll live until you can get your hands on him.”

“Is he gonna talk?” I have to ask, even though I know my brother’s not messy.

“No, we cleared that shit up real quick,” he replies, handing me a light. “If he does, he knows he’ll be a dead man. Lucky for us, he doesn’t realize he already is.”

I light my smoke and say, “Yeah, he is.”

After lighting his, he looks at me. “That motherfucker is messed up, brother. I mean, he’s completely and totally fucking wacked.”

“I think we already figured that shit out,” I growl out, lighting my own cigarette. “I knew that the minute I laid eyes on the douchebag.”

Smoke shakes his head, taking another draw. “No, brother. He’s rotten all the way down to the core. Hell, I think he would make Crank and Stone look like saints.”

His words send a wave of trepidation through my body. “Just tell me what you got to say and quit with this cryptic bullshit.”

My brother looks away, shaking his head. “If I understand all the shit he was telling me, this shit has been going on for nearly a year.”

I close my eyes and try to pull in a calming breath. I know what he’s saying is true. Already guessed it, just by what Trix had told me. Still, to know it for a fact is different. I can’t imagine what Addy has been going through.

“That’s not the worst of it, Brew,” Smoke says, drawing my attention back to him.

What in the hell could be worse than being raped for an entire fucking year? No matter what my imagination comes up with, I can’t think of one damn thing. Unable to say anything, I just lift my chin for him to go on.

“He played her, played Addy and her sister.” He pulls out another cigarette and lights if off the one he’s still smoking. Trading them out, he looks at me again. “The sister actually got the easy part. He kept her at home, only letting her see her parents and Addy. Other than that, he ignored her. Well, he ignored her after he knocked her ass up that is.”

I don’t understand what power the fucker had over Alex. I get that Addy was trying to save her sister. I don’t really understand the whys and hows, but I understand what she was doing it for. Alex, on the other hand, I just don’t understand why she didn’t divorce his ass and be done. That’s a question for later, though.

Taking another drag off my smoke, I ask, “What about Addy? What did that motherfucker do to her, brother?”

I already know what he did; we all do. Still, I need to know it all. I’m gonna make sure the bastard pays for every single thing he did to my woman. I’ll also make sure he pays in a way that means he’s not breathing anymore.

“Addy had it worse. He used her, man. He forced her to do what he wanted or he promised to make her sister pay,” Smoke explains, not quite meeting my eyes. “He even convinced himself that she liked it, and I’m guessing he must have convinced her of that, too.”

My eyes jerk to him as I ask, “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Once I started hitting him, he wouldn’t shut up, so I had to try to decipher what his meaning was. If I got it right, he learned her body. Then, he made sure to use that information against her,” he says, taking another draw off his cigarette. “He said she cried every fucking time. Let me tell you, brother, he enjoyed every tear she shed.”

I’m so shocked by what he said that I blurt out the first thing that pops into my mind. “Are you telling me that she got off with that fucker?”

“Yes, that’s exactly what he’s saying,” Addy says as she walks out the door, with Boz and Trix right on her ass.

She comes right to me and pushes her deep red hair from her eyes. “I got off nearly every time he touched me. I prayed and prayed that I wouldn’t, but my prayers were never answered.”

Before I can say anything, Smoke grabs her arms and twists her around to look at him. “You didn’t do a damn thing wrong. You were an innocent kid, and that fucker forced you into his bed.”

“I wasn’t a kid,” Addy yells with a shake of her head. “I was a grown woman, with a mind of my own. But he still made me come almost every time he took me to his bed. What kind of person does that make me? How fucked up am I?”

“He did this shit, Red. Not you. It was all him,” Smoke says, giving her a little shake. “He fucked with your head until you had no control over your own body.”

I can hear Trix crying behind me, the cars driving down the street, even the people coming in and out of the hospital. Still, nothing is as loud as the sound of my own heart beating at this moment. It’s like the whole fucking world has stopped, as I try to make sense of what I just learned.

Then, Addy’s voice reaches my ears and it becomes clear as a bell. “No, I didn’t want him anywhere near me. I got sick every time he touched me. A little piece of me died every time he laid his hands on me.”

I jerk her toward me and say, “Every time I touch you, I’m gonna bring one of those missing pieces back to life.”

After those words, I pull her into my arms and kiss her. It’s long and deep, going on and on. I put everything I have into it, kissing her in a way that I hope she can see that none of this shit means anything to me. It doesn’t change the way I feel about her or how much I love her, because I do. I love Addy more than I have ever loved anyone or anything in my life, and that’s never going to change. Did it happen fast? Hell yeah. Still, the feeling is real and it is deep.

When I finally pull back, her beautiful brown eyes are full of pain. “I’m not good enough for you, Brew. I wish I was, but I’m not. I want you to find a woman that deserves you. You need someone that’s clean, and that’s something I’ll never be again.”

“You’re clean, Addy. There’s not one thing about you that’s dirty.” After pulling her flush with my chest, I place my chin on top of her head. “But, you need to know that you could be dirty, and I’d still want you.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Addy

LOOKING DOWN
at my nephew, I find my first true smile of the day. “He’s beautiful, Alex. The most perfect little boy I’ve ever seen.”

She motions for me to give him back to her. “He’s absolutely gorgeous.”

As I’m laying him in her arms, Brew and Trix walk through the door. My eyes catch site of Boz and Smoke standing guard at the door. As much as I hate that they all know my darkest secrets, I’m so glad they’re here. I’m not sure I would’ve made it without them.

Without even thinking, I walk over to Brew, wrap my arms around his waist, and lay my head against his chest. “I’m glad you’re back.”

His arms wrap around me as he kisses the top of my head. “I told you, I was just going to grab you something to eat.”

Before I can say anything, Trix shoves a duffle bag at me. “I’m better than him. I brought you some clean clothes.”

I nearly squeal in delight as I grab the bag and rush to the bathroom. Blake destroyed my dress last night, leaving me with nothing more than a rag that didn’t cover my body. Before Brew even took me from the room, he tugged off his tee shirt and pulled it over my body. Even though it hung to my knees, I still felt naked.

After pulling on a clean pair of panties, I shove my legs into a pair of Trix’s leggings. I hesitate before taking off Brew’s shirt, not wanting to lose his scent. I do, though, and put on the shirt my best friend brought me. After running a brush through my hair, I pull it into a high ponytail and head back into the room.

When I step into the room, the vibe has completely changed. My sister and Trix both look tense, and Brew is gone. “What’s going on?”

“Mom and Dad are here,” Alex answers, her voice flat as she rocks Cameron gently in her arms.

My eyes go to Trix for a second, before I rush to the door. My best friend stops me, just before I pull it open. “Don’t go out there, Addy. The guys are taking care of it.”

I jerk my head toward her and narrow my eyes. “No, it’s about time I start taking care of my fucking self.”

“You’ve been doing that for the last year. Please, let them deal with this,” she begs, giving my arm a tight squeeze.

She’s been treating me like glass ever since I woke up last night. She’s also said she was sorry about a million times, taking this all on her shoulders, even though none of this is her fault. At this point, I’d be willing to give her just about anything to take the look of anguish out of her eyes. I can’t give her this, though. I have to do this, have to deal with my parents one final time.

“Trix, I need to do this,” I say, pulling away enough to grab her hand. “If I don’t face them, they’re gonna fill my nightmares for the rest of my life.”

“I understand why you have to do it.” She nods then releases my hand, only to cup my jaw. “Just be careful, okay.”

“I promise,” I say, turning away and walking out the door.

As soon as I do, Smoke is staring down at me with fire in his eyes. “What the fuck are you doing out here, Red?”

I go to my tip toes, so I can at least come to his chest, and say, “I’m gonna go vanquish some monsters that have been making my life a living hell.”

He lifts a brow as a grin spreads across his lips. “Are you sure you’re up for that? I don’t think Brew can handle you breaking down again.”

I want to tell him yes, tell him I’m stronger than he thinks, but I refuse to lie to Smoke. There’ve been too many lies in my life lately, and I want to put that to an end right now. Instead, I take a second to pick my words carefully.

“I’m not sure, but I do know this has to be done,” I say, honestly. “If I do break, and that could happen, it’ll be hard on Brew. But there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s up to the job of putting me back together again.”
