QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
  1. Cheyenne believes she's come to Redemption by accident. Kitty tells her God leads needy people to the small town. Do you think such a thing is possible? Does God really lead people to do things? If your answer is yes, how has he led you?
  2. Have you ever known someone who was a victim of a violent crime? How did the crime affect that person? How did he/she cope and recover?
  3. Cheyenne was filled with a mix of shame, guilt and deep humiliation, all typical responses in a rape victim. Why do you think women react this way? Why would someone blame herself for such a crime? Is rape ever the fault of the victim?
  4. Cheyenne's friends and family were uncomfortable with her after the rape, another common reaction. Why do you think this happens? In what ways could a friend or family member be a comfort and help to a rape victim?
  5. Trace's motto was “Today is the best day ever” but Cheyenne's was “Nobody does something for nothing.” Which of these is closest to the way you feel? If you had a personal motto, what would it be?
  6. Trace has seen his share of tragedy and yet he is emotionally healthy. Why do you think this is so? Do you think his relationship with God had anything to do with his ability to heal after his wife died? Have you ever faced a tragedy and found strength and healing through your faith?
  7. When Cheyenne first arrives in town, she misjudges the two old Dumpster-divers. Have you ever misjudged someone
because of appearance? What does scripture say about how God judges us?
  8. The town of Redemption is populated by a number of interesting characters. Who was your favorite secondary character? Why?
  9. The well at Town Square is engraved with scripture. What was it? How did it play a part in Cheyenne's character growth? Why do you think the other characters kept asking her if she had seen the well?
  10. Trace's daughter Zoey is blind, but Popbottle Jones and G. I. Jack said she had vision. What did they mean? Contrast Zoey's type of darkness with Cheyenne's.
  11. The Bible says “God is light and in Him is no darkness.” What does this mean? How could this apply to the story and to Cheyenne's emotional darkness?
  12. Is it scripturally acceptable for a woman like Emma Madden to leave her abusive spouse? Discuss the various views on this and find scripture to back up your opinion.
  13. Because she'd had a few drinks the night of the rape, Cheyenne is certain God must be angry with her. Do you think God “punishes” our mistakes? Or do you think we sometimes punish ourselves instead? Is there any scripture to support your opinion?
  14. Trace tells Zoey that God has a perfect plan for each of us. Do you believe that? Can you find the scripture that supports this?
  15. Do you believe God has a plan for your life? What is it? How can a person know God's perfect plan?
