Their drive home was pleasant, but again, they weren’t alone. Lacey and Iian had arrived and insisted on driving them home. Lacey didn’t want Todd to drive with his hands bandaged up, and Megan wasn’t allowed to drive yet. Iian drove the Jeep home; he’d reached the house a good five minutes before them.
In her absence, Lacey had seen to breakfast and lunch for her customers. She had also cleaned both cabins and the main house. When they drove up in Lacey’s oversize sedan, she could see a whole group of town people standing on the porch, their hands all full of dishes. It was going to be a long night.
Megan had been propped up on the living room couch. Boomer made a point in complaining to her, his disagreements of her not being home last night. Then, he snuggled up in her lap, and continued purring.
Now, as the evening drew to an end, she could feel her energy draining away. Faces started blurring together. When, her head almost rolled off her shoulders, Lacey ushered everyone out of the house.
Todd walked over and picked her up in his arms.
“Let me take you upstairs.”
“I’m just a little tired,” she said into his shoulders. He was getting this habit of carrying her around, she liked it.
“Good night.” Todd said to Lacey.
“I’ll just clean and lock up. Good night.” Lacey already had a hand full of dishes.
When Todd laid Megan gently down on the bed, he pulled off her shoes and sat down next to her.
“You gave me a scare.” Todd said, gently pushing her blonde hair behind her ear. “Don’t do it again.” He leaned down and placed a light kiss on the tip of her nose.
“I won’t as long as you don’t either. When I saw him point the gun at you…”
“Don’t.” He pulled her in for a gentle hug. “Let’s not talk about it now.”
“I couldn’t bear life without you. You know. I – I” she stuttered against his shoulder. Pulling back from him, she looked him in the eyes. She wanted to see his face.
“I love you. I think I’ve loved you from the first moment I laid eyes on you. You’re my future. You’re everything to me. I love you
so
much. Marry me Todd.”
She could see the emotions cross his face. Then he was kissing her, she knew she had found what she had always been looking for.
Megan was nervous, her stomach had butterflies, and it had nothing to do with her morning sickness, which had ended last month. She stood in front of her large mirror and looked at her reflection. She could just make out a small bump which caused her to smile.
The dress was loose and flowing with short sleeves, showing off her shoulders. Her scratches and bruises were gone, her skin looked smooth and pale. The light cream color of the dress accented her coloring perfectly. Her hair was down, curling around in small ringlets with flowers pinned in it. She looked at her face in the reflection and enjoyed the glow of her eyes. She was happy, very happy.
A soft knock sounded from the door and she didn’t even jump at the sound. “Come in,” she said, without taking her eyes from the mirror.
“
Oh, you look wonderful.” Lacey said crossing the room, smiling at her. “It’s time.”
Megan blinked and turned around. Lacey handed her a small bouquet of pink roses and quickly hugged her.
As Megan walked down the stairs towards her back yard, which had been transformed for the wedding, she knew she’d feel just like this for the rest of her life, happy.
Lacey Jordan was a woman who knew what she wanted… and she wanted nothing to do with the new doctor in town. He had the perfect smile, perfectly tan muscles and a way with people. Her people. This was her town, her family, her life, and he’d come in and shaken everything up, including her heart.
Aaron was running away from a hard breakup where more than just his heart had been broken. At this point all he wanted to do was take over his grandfather’s medical practice and work on his new house, turning it into the first place he could call home. He liked the town of Pride, in fact he’d spent the only good parts of his childhood here. What he hadn’t expected was to bump into a fairy goddess. Bumping hard enough to get a concussion and have his heart mended at the same time.
Just when everything was finally looking good for the pair, the town gets a visit that will change their lives forever, if they can survive.
