Chapter 18

“Calm the fuck down.” Garrett shoved Hunter, who started pacing.

“Yeah, okay.” Hunter ran his hand through his hair. He wanted to kill the bastard, and his wolf was totally enraged that he hadn’t. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes trying to regain composure.

“You good?” Garrett eyed him closely. “Because honestly, I can’t lose you now because you kill the stupid son of a bitch. I need you. If the police are looking for him because of this, then the best thing to do is let them take care of it.”

Hunter nodded, knowing this, but it still didn’t keep him from wanting to rip the man’s throat out. “I know, and I’m good.”

“Then get out there with Emily,” Garrett ordered, heading toward the back door before stopping. “Hunter.”

Hunter turned to look at Garrett standing in the doorway. “If the court system doesn’t do right by her, then we will our way.” With a nod, Garrett turned and left him alone.

Staring at the door, Hunter knew that to be true before Garrett ever said anything, but to hear his alpha confirm he’d be behind him calmed him somewhat. Taking another deep calming breath, he headed back out front. Emily still stood where he had left her.

“Hi,” Emily said when she spotted him.

Hunter gave her a nod. “Hi.” He kissed her, pulling her tight against him. He pulled his lips from hers. “Did he hurt you?” His voice was rough with anger.

“No.” She shook her head, her eyes meeting his. “Thank you.”

“You still up for a little walk, dinner, and then my place?” Hunter took her hand and started walking, but she wasn’t moving with him. Turning, he saw the frown on her face. “What’s wrong?”

Emily hesitated, her eyes searching his. “I really don’t think this is going to work unless we get our pasts out in the open. You just beat the hell out of my past, but yours still haunts me.” Emily’s eyes remained on his. “I’m not going to play games so I’m going to ask you straight-out, and I want the truth.”

“Ah, okay.” Hunter’s brows dipped low as he turned completely to face her. “What is it?”

“Sadie stopped by the store before I closed.” Emily squared her shoulders, looking straight at him.

“And?” Hunter asked, trying to mask the anger in his voice. He should have known something like this was going to happen.

“Listen, I’m done caring about who you dated or whatever in the past, but honestly, I don’t want to be another girl you take to your place and—”

“Let me stop you right there.” Hunter touched the side of her face. “I have never taken a woman to my home, ever. My home, as is any male shifter’s home, is chosen with a mate in mind, not a place to take random women.”

Emily swallowed visibly. “I don’t want to sound like a jealous—”

“And once again, let me stop you.” Hunter rubbed his thumb against her full bottom lip. “Never hesitate to ask me anything. I know how I acted in the past and I understand you doubting me. I accept that and will do everything in my power to prove to you I’m no longer that boy but am the man who will lay down his life for you, my mate.”

When he started to speak again, Emily prevented him by wrapping her arms around him tightly and laying her head against his chest. “You have nothing to prove to me, Hunter.”

Pulling her close, he kissed the top of her head. “Oh, I do. My wolf demands it.” Hunter tilted her chin to look into her eyes. “I’ve been at war with my wolf over you since the first time I saw you. Another regret I have. It’s time to make it right.”

Emily smiled, looking up at him. “Then how about we start with something to eat? I’m starving.”

His anger with the bastard he’d just beaten the hell out of hadn’t subsided, but he was good at hiding his feelings. He would make damn sure the bastard never came near her again.

******

If Emily had ever in her life been this happy, she didn’t remember. Just walking with Hunter calmed her. She could almost forget about everything and everyone, but still there was that feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop. As hard as she tried to push that feeling away, it was there and she had to acknowledge the fact. No one could be this happy and content; it wasn’t what happened in the real world. Everyone had happy moments, but the next moment could be hell on earth. She always tried to keep a level head with things like that, but Hunter Foster made it damn hard to stay rational.

The way he surrounded her made her feel safe, as if nothing could touch her. She soaked in the sensation like a starving woman.

“Well, here we are.” Hunter grinned at his house and then down at her.

Emily stared and then laughed. “That is so not the house I thought you’d live in.”

Hunter’s grin started to slip into a frown.

“No, I love it.” Emily playfully used her fingers to push his lips back into a smile. “It’s just… I figured you for a bachelor-pad type of guy. Not a simple little cabin adorned with a woodened fence.”

Hunter crossed his arms staring down at her. “Are you making fun of my house?”

“No, I’m….” Emily bit her lip looking back at the house. “I absolutely love it.”

Hunter growled. “No, you don’t.”

“Yes, I do!” Emily put her hands on her hips, a frown now marring her face. “Are we about to have our first fight?”

“I hope so because I really want to make up.” Hunter winked before pulling her to him for a long kiss. “Do you really like it?” he murmured against her lips.

“Yes, I really do,” she reassured, their lips still pressed together. “I love it.”

In a quick move, Hunter picked her up and carried her toward the house. “Good, because it was built with you in mind.”

“Hunter, you really don’t have to say things like that.” There was that doubt creeping in.

“Why?” He stopped just outside the door looking down at her. “It’s true.”

Emily offered him a smile, her heart easing. He bent, held her against him with one arm, which was impressive, and opened the door with the other. Once inside, he used his foot to close the door and then sat her down. Glancing around, Emily once again smiled. The house was devoid of any pictures, curtains, or furniture other than a small round table that sat with two chairs in front of a large picture window.

“Where’s your furniture?” Emily asked, absolutely loving the little cabin. Her mind went crazy on decorating ideas. She stopped herself with a warning to slow the hell down.

“I hardly stay here,” Hunter admitted. “I always planned for my mate to decorate.” A ghost of a smile played on his lips. “When I first started to build, I did it slowly and once it was done, I knew I wouldn’t stay here.”

“That doesn’t make any sense.”

Hunter shrugged. “It’s our way. Marcus has a house that’s in the same state as mine. We stay in town a lot with Garrett. Garrett had to have a place. Being alpha, he needed to be accessible. Once he steps down from being the alpha of our pack, he will build Janna a home just for her.”

Emily knew they had walked a distance from the town, but didn’t mind it at all. Everyone walked in Beattyville, except in the winter months, because everywhere you looked there was beauty. “Why so far from town?”

“Because when I want or need to shift, I don’t have to find any place to do it, and once I shift back into human form, I’m completely naked.” Hunter grinned with a wink. “Kind of hard to do in the middle of town.”

Laughing, Emily walked to the large window where the only table sat and looked out. The view of the valley of nothing but trees was amazing. “Can we have kids?” Emily gasped after asking, feeling her cheeks warm with embarrassment. Where in the hell did that come from? “I mean….” She kept facing the window, but her eyes were squeezed shut. Seriously, what in the hell made her ask that question? Heat appeared behind her, the only warning before Hunter’s arms wrapped around her.

“Absolutely.” Hunter’s voice was close to her ear, his breath tickling her neck.

“Do you want kids?” Emily decided to jump in completely since it was already out there.

“Yes, I want two boys and a girl.” Hunter kissed the side of her neck.

“Given it a lot of thought, have you?” Emily tilted her neck further providing better access. His kisses were so damn good.

“Mmm hum,” he mumbled against her neck, his arms tightening around her.

Emily sighed as his hands roamed her body, one moving to her breast and stopping. Reaching up, she grasped his hand moving it the rest of the way. She wanted this, wanted him. It seemed like she had waited forever for this moment and she was going to enjoy every single minute of it. She wasn’t a scared, shaking virgin. No, she was a mature woman who decided to give herself to the man she loved and thank God, that wait was over.

“I want to take it slowly,” Hunter whispered, but didn’t remove his hand from her breast.

“And I’ve waited long enough.” Emily turned in his arms. “I’m not naïve, Hunter. I know what to expect and I’m more than ready for this, for you.”

“Shifters are sexual beasts, Em.” Hunter’s eyes roamed her face then lowered to her breasts. “I don’t want to scare you.”

“Scare me, Hunter.” Emily cupped his cheek. “I trust you.”

Hunter swallowed, but didn’t say a word as he removed her shirt, followed swiftly by her bra. Sudden self-consciousness overwhelmed her. Her breasts were big with a few stretch marks, her stomach not flat and wouldn’t you know it, a flash of Sadie Johnson shot through her mind. One arm went up to cover her breasts from his view as the other wrapped tightly around her stomach. Okay, so maybe she wasn’t as brave as she thought.

The only thing she feared at that very moment was his rejection of how she looked, how she was made. His growl made her jump.

“If you ever try to hide from me again, I will tie you to my bed so I can look at you without any barriers.” Hunter gently moved her arms away from herself.

Excitement made everything that could tingle on her body do just that, but a tinge of doubt still fogged her mind. “But I’m—”

“Perfect.” His eyes roamed her body as his hands came up to cup her breasts. “So fucking big and perfect.”

“Big?” Emily frowned. She knew she was overweight, but he really didn’t need to bring that up.

“Yes, big.” He growled, his eyes narrowed in irritation. “Your tits are big, lush and full, just the way I like them.” He bent his head, licking one nipple.

“Oh,” was all Emily could think to say, a hot blush burning her body.

Hunter chuckled, licking his way up her neck. “You’ll get used to my language.” Hunter’s tongue invaded her mouth in a sensual stroke. “I will be easy, soft, and use flowery words the first time as I make love to you, Em, so it is special for you, but after that, I’m going to lay you down wherever you stand and fuck you like a man fucks his mate.”

“Oh, God.” Emily’s legs honestly gave underneath her, which Hunter must have anticipated because he was ready and caught her to him. “I won’t use sweet words such as breasts, your flower opening or buttocks.”

Though her brain was mush, she seriously thought she’d heard him say her “flower opening.” “Hunter, what the hell is a flower opening?” Her laughter became a moan when he pinched her nipple. She felt his grin against her shoulder. “If it’s what I think it is, please never call it that.”

Hunter leaned back and looked into her eyes, the smile on his lips slipping. “I will use words such as, I want to fuck those beautiful big tits after I lick your pussy and when I fuck you from behind, I will be smacking that sweet ass.” His eyes narrowed, a growl escaping his throat as he leaned closer to her face. “Does that scare you?”

Emily was so turned on she didn’t even have words, but knew she needed to find them before Hunter got the wrong idea. “What are you waiting for?” She licked her dry lips. “Are you scared?” She knew by the surprised look on his face she had said the right thing. She wasn’t a sex goddess by any means, but by damn she had waited for this moment for so long she was more than ready for whatever Hunter Foster had to give.

Chapter 19

Hunter picked her up and hurried up the steps. Fuck dinner. They’d eat later. He was ready to explode and needed to be inside her. He finally understood why he had always gone for skinny dark-haired women; he’d been trying to wipe a certain full-figured beautiful blonde from his mind. It never worked. It was wasted time he planned to fully make up for.

He knew he was crude with his words to her, but he wanted Emily to know exactly who he was and son of a bitch, she threw his words right back in his face. Seeing her body for the first time had him shaking, and she wasn’t even completely undressed. His dick pushed painfully against his jeans. His wolf surprisingly remained silent, but then again she was human. The connection to his wolf was not sexual. That was all for the man.

Kicking his door open to the bedroom, he was reluctant to let her go. Putting her down, he took off his shirt and was pleased when she touched him, her eyes following the path of her exploring hands. He stood perfectly still watching her pleasure until he couldn’t stand it anymore.

“Undress.” His voice was harsh with need. Her breasts were bare to his eyes, but he wanted all of her. He watched as she slipped out of her jeans, her underwear following. With a growl, he pushed his body against her and then moved to the bed, keeping his weight off her and on his arms. “Are you afraid?”

“No,” she whispered, her eyes searching his. The softness of her hand on his cheek felt so damn good.

“I can’t believe you waited for me.” Hunter felt choked up by that fact. To give him the gift of being the only man to ever…. Hell, he couldn’t even finish the thought without feeling like he was going to cry like a little fucking bitch. And in all honesty,
he
was a little bit afraid.

“You’re the only man I’ve ever wanted, Hunter.” Emily gave him a sad smile. “So it was an easy decision for me.”

“I promise to make sure you’re not disappointed in your choice.” Hunter moaned as he explored her body, gently prepping her for him. Not only would this moment be something he would never forget, but a moment she would always remember. He would die making it special for her.

Confident she was ready and hoping to hell that was true, Hunter rose and stripped away his jeans. He always went commando; most shifters did. His cock jumped as her eyes devoured him with no fear whatsoever in those gray eyes. He hated that she was going to experience some pain, but his male pride soared because of what that meant.

“I’m clean,” Hunter said, but seeing the confused look on her face, he grinned. “We do not get human diseases, so I’m clean.”

“Oh, okay.” Emily’s cheeks flushed. “Then I guess we’re good to go.”

Hunter chuckled shaking his head. “I can still get you pregnant, so don’t move and I’ll be right back.”

She stopped him from moving away. “I’m on the pill, Hunter.”

Instant anger flashed across his face. “What the fuck are you on the pill for?”

“Ah, because if this ever happened with you, I wanted to be ready.” Emily searched his eyes, then looked away embarrassed. “Stupid, huh.”

His racing heart stopped at her words. “No, never stupid. How long have you been on the pill, Emily?”

“Since I was seventeen.” She admitted with a shrug. “It’s not a big deal, Hunter. Can we please just finish what we got going here.” She laughed nervously, her eyes not meeting his.

Leaning down, he kissed her deeply and thoroughly, the tip of his cock teasing the entrance of her wet pussy. Yeah, she was definitely ready. Leaning up, he prepared to break through the barrier every man wanted to feel with their mate, and if one said that it didn’t matter, they were a fucking liar. Again, he hesitated because of the pain she would feel, but it was a pain that would solidify that she was his.

Looking directly into her eyes, he rammed inside her, breaking through without resistance as he gasped the words, “I love you.” He declared them with so much feeling, he felt his eyes swim with tears. Jesus, this just might fucking kill him.

Emily barely even gasped at the pain. Her eyes remained on him as a sweet smile curved her full lips. “I love you, Hunter Foster.” Unlike him, her tears spilled down her temples, disappearing into her hair.

Hunter fought with everything he had to keep it slow, to show her pleasure for her first time, but he only had so much control before the predator in him came to the forefront. Watching her full tits swaying with each pump of his cock didn’t help matters. She was on the edge, her breathing becoming choppy with need, her eyes pleading for something she didn’t know or understand. It told him exactly where she was and he loved it, loved her. The power she made him feel blew his mind. Never had he felt like this, and he knew with her that every time would be the same, even better than this very moment. He had no doubts about that.

Moving his hand from her leg, which he used as leverage, he found her plump nub and brought her closer to what she sought, what he demanded: her complete pleasure. Anything less would not do.

Hearing her cries and moans pushed him hard, his hips rammed into her and she pushed right back, each fighting to give the other pleasure.

“Please,” escaped her lips and knowing she wasn’t quite sure what she was pleading for, he took pity. But the next time he would make her beg. He smiled, wondering if he wasn’t just being cocky and it would be her making him beg. If so, he would enjoy every moment. The thought made his cock harden even more inside her.

Leaning down, he took her lips, kissing her with everything he had before raising slightly. “Hang on, Em,” he whispered, nipping her bottom lip. “I’ve been making love to you, but I think you’re more than ready to be fucked by your mate, and that is the way I want to take you to completion for your first time. Are you okay? You ready for this?”

“Dammit, Hunter.” Emily lifted her hips when he slowed. “Shut up and fuck me already.”

Hunter didn’t think he could smile any bigger without his face splitting in half. Grabbing her legs, he moved in deliberate pumps until he rammed into her with everything he had. And goddamn if she didn’t meet his every thrust. His gaze traveled from her bouncing tits to her face. Her eyes fixed on his. Her mouth opened with husky moans escaping. Every second, he ensured he didn’t cause her pain, but she took him with such passion he was honestly shocked.

Knowing he was close, Hunter reached for her swollen nub and began to pinch with each thrust. Within seconds she screamed, her pussy clamping his cock, milking him. Satisfied she had her pleasure, he let go, and he swore he was going to pass out. His cock emptied inside her. Giving one last thrust, he held against her, not wanting to pull out. Instead, he collapsed on top of her, her fingers ruffling through his hair. Hunter couldn’t catch his damn breath and wondered if they were going to have to call 911.

“Jesus!” A deep groan followed.

“Did I do okay?” Emily’s small voice met his ears, and he found the strength to rise up to look at her and chuckle.

“Honey, if you’d done any better, I’d be dead.” Hunter shook his head in disbelief. “Son of a bitch, we’re going to have to keep 911 on speed dial.”

Emily gave him a proud smile. “When can you fuck me again?” She laughed when he collapsed on her breast with a moan.

******

Emily had to be at the feed store early the next morning, so Hunter woke early with her and drove her on his bike. They barely ate any of the meal he had Roxy make, and after a few bites, they were back at it. She was definitely sore this morning, but she didn’t care. She felt alive and loved, finally.

Closer to the store, she saw the lights on. Hunter stopped outside, climbed off and helped her off. Seeing her staring, he glanced at the store. “What’s wrong?”

“I know I turned the lights off before I left last night.” Emily frowned not seeing Deb’s car. “And Deb isn’t here.”

Hunter’s body stiffened. “Give me the keys and wait here.”

Emily did as he said, except for the wait here part. Instead, she followed him up the steps.

“Em, go back by my bike,” Hunter ordered, before opening the door. “If someone is in here, I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“Well, I don’t want you to get hurt either,” Emily whispered, looking around him to see inside the store. “I can be your backup.”

Hunter growled, grabbing her by the arm and walked her back to his bike. “Wait here and do not for any reason come inside that store until I tell you otherwise.”

Emily huffed, but stayed and watched him disappear inside. What seemed like hours was only five minutes before he walked back out, waving her up. “No one was inside. I even went up to the attic, and it doesn’t look like anything is destroyed.” Hunter opened the door for her. “Look around and see what you think. Maybe you left the lights on.”

“Maybe,” Emily replied but highly doubted it. The electric came out of her check, not her sister’s, so she was good about making sure they were off. Emily walked around, climbed up to her attic room with Hunter right beside her and then back downstairs. “Nothing seems out of place.”

Glancing at the clock, she went over and flipped the open sign, making sure the door was unlocked. Before she could even get back to the counter, the bell over the door dinged. Turning, she saw Jill and Slade enter.

“Hey, I saw you guys ride up and wanted to say bye before we head out.” Jill smiled with a wave.

“You’re leaving?” Emily frowned, forgetting about the oddity of the lights being on. She’d been hoping to get to know Jill better.

“Yeah, duty calls.” Jill nodded and then snorted. “Or should I say Sloan calls and we go.”

“I hope you get to come back soon.” Emily glanced at Slade, still a little intimidated by the massive doctor who was the most gorgeous man she’d ever seen, next to Hunter of course.

Slade smiled down at her. “We’ll be back closer to the time the babies are due unless Janna has problems.”

“Great.” Emily blushed at his attention making Hunter growl.

“We’ll hopefully have more time to get to know each other then.” Jill reached over and gave Emily a hug. “You take care of this guy.”

Jill reached up giving Hunter a tight hug. “Don’t let this one go,” Jill whispered, but Emily could hear her. “She’s definitely the diamond in the rough.”

Hunter laughed loudly. “You are absolutely right for once.”

“I’m always right.” Jill snorted and grabbed Slade’s arm.

Slade glanced down at Jill with narrowed eyes before reaching out and shaking Hunter’s hand. “Make sure to give us a call if you need anything,” he told Hunter. He nodded toward Emily before they walked out the door. “As soon as I give Janna some final instructions, we’re out of here.”

“She is so nice.” Emily watched them go.

“And he’s so handsome.” Hunter mocked her.

“You think so?” Emily gave him a teasing grin and then shrugged. “He’s okay.”

“I don’t know what it is with Dr. Hottie McVampire that makes women go nuts.” Hunter snorted, puffing out his muscular chest.

“Dr. Hottie McVampire?” Emily stared at Hunter as if he’d lost his mind.

“It’s a name one of the Warriors’ mates gave him.” Hunter chuckled. “Sure do miss those guys though. Maybe we can go visit them before Slade and Jill come back.”

“I’d like that.” Emily beamed. With a small frown, she then asked, “Is Steve leaving?”

“Yeah, but I think he’s upset about leaving Leda.” Hunter explained about Garrett catching Leda and Steve in a kiss.

“I told them to be careful,” Emily said without thought.

“You knew about Steve and Leda?” Hunter’s eyes popped open in surprise.

“Yes, I caught them in the kitchen yesterday kissing.” Emily grinned. “It was just harmless kissing. Garrett was really that mad?”

“Well, if you consider asking Marcus how to kill a vampire is mad, then yeah, he was pretty pissed off.” Hunter grinned and then leaned down and kissed her. “I’ll be right back. I’m going to run over to the house for a second.” Hunter kissed her again.

“If Steve is still there, tell him he better come and see me before he leaves so I can say good-bye. If he doesn’t, I’ll tell Garrett what I saw in the kitchen.” Emily gave a sly grin.

Hunter smirked as he walked out the store. “That will probably send him running.”
