Shades of Wolf 2

Forever Our Ever

A year has passed since the werewolves Kris, Liam, and Mick Sten became a part of Ever Wilson’s life. She is carrying their children, and after a second attack on her life, Kris decides that it would be safer for them to live on clan property. Ever is none too thrilled about the move, even though Kris has had a beautiful house built for her. She is six months pregnant, and on the rare occasions when she is not sleeping, she is being unreasonably crabby, but can’t seem to stop herself.

Ever is also having very real and sexual dreams about Carmen, the werewolf who turned her.

On the night of Kris’s ceremony to welcome him into the clan as Alpha, tragedy strikes. The repercussions of this single event spread out to touch the entire Sten family, and none of their lives may ever be the same.

DEDICATION

Thanks to my good friends Sandra and Dawn, who support and encourage me to continue writing.

I have to admit, though, that I love to write and see what happens as the story progresses. No, I never know in advance, and usually when I think I know, it takes a turn and goes elsewhere.

Thanks also have to go out to my husband, who finds other things to do as I sit at the computer typing.

To you, my fans, I enjoy your feedback, and without you, I would be writing for only my own amusement. Thank you.

Chapter 1

Ever groaned as Liam shook her. “What?” she grumbled as she gazed over at him.

“We have arrived. You need to wake up.”

“I don’t want to wake up. I’ll just stay in the truck and sleep. I’m too tired.” She had been dreaming about Carmen again. They were weird dreams, more like memories in sleep, but she hated to be woken up in the middle of such a great sex dream. Sex with her men had been put on hold. Mick had insisted that the babies were stressing her womb and the last time they had tried, the babies had ruined her mood by kicking the hell out of her. That was over two weeks ago, and as sex had ended, sleep had gone from knocking on her mind to pounding the door down. She was having trouble keeping her eyes open unless she slept for at least twelve to fourteen hours a day.

Liam gave her a bright smile and opened the door, sliding out. Ever felt as if she was going to tumble after him, her body too exhausted to stay upright on its own. He put a hand under her armpit and braced her with it until he could get a better grip on her and slide her into his arms. She hated to be carried, her bulging stomach seeming to arch higher into the air. It made it hard to even put her arms around his neck, and she felt as if she was two hundred pounds heavier than she had been six months before.

Liam, however, was having no problem walking with her in his arms. She didn’t want him to walk. She wanted to go back to the truck and go home.

Trying to distract herself, she let her eyes take in the scenery. The trees and groundcover around them were dense and green, a virtual wall of forest in every direction she could see.

Kris walked up beside Liam, grabbing her hair and tugging her head back so he could look into her eyes. “Are you still pouting and ornery?”

It had become a perpetual state of mind since Kris had informed her that they were going up to the clan’s property before the birth of the babies. It didn’t help that he never seemed to be home anymore. Either he was gone, or Liam was. She supposed it might just seem that way, because she was sleeping so much, but…

Of course, when he was home, she seemed to be moodier. For a while, she had been able to control her mood swings, but not today. “Yes. I don’t want to be here. I want to go home!”

“That’s not possible and you know it. It is too dangerous.”

“That’s what you keep telling me, so I will ask you again. What happens after the babies are born? It won’t be any safer. If anything, it will be worse. What then?”

Kris grunted in anger. It was a question he had refused to answer no matter how many times she asked. Ever had a feeling that she knew the answer. Either they had plans to sell her house and take up residence among their clan, or they planned to allow someone else to raise her children. Ever would not have it. They were her babies, and she wanted to be a part of their lives. “It takes a clan to raise a were” was their father’s motto, or so Kris had told her. Ever had yet to meet their father. He was supposed to have come for a visit, but had never shown up. As far as Ever knew, the man hated her even though he had never met her.

“Is your father here?” That question she might get an answer to.

“Yes,” replied Kris with a disdainful roll of his eyes.

“Goodie, do I get to meet him or will he shun me here also? Has he been spreading nice rumors about me to the clan?” Her voice was tinged with sarcasm and Kris scowled at her.

“I don’t know.”

“What? You don’t know if I will meet him, or if he has been spreading rumors?” She was being exceptionally crabby and it was really unfair to Kris. He had been doing everything possible to make her happy and comfortable. Of course, her condition was his fault. He had gotten a single whiff of her breeding scent and had turned into a wild man. They had fucked for almost four hours straight and no sooner had she gone to sleep then Liam had joined them in bed and it had started over with both of them. Mick had been away at a holistic convention and had unfortunately missed the entire event. She was already carrying a child, or, more aptly, children, when he returned. He had been slightly furious, but it really wasn’t anyone’s fault and he knew that.

She had no control over when her time had begun and it was simply Mick’s bad luck that he wasn’t home.

Liam walked with her up to the two outer steps onto a long front porch with a beautiful padded bench hanging from the ceiling on chains. The outer walls had been left in a natural state of wood finish, and they shimmered with a thick coat of varnish. The front door was majestic, thick logs carved with the image of wolves standing guard over the entrance. Kris opened the door and Liam carried her inside. He took a right, bringing her into a huge bedroom and laying her on an oversized bed. There was no footboard, but a spiral-slatted headboard that was definitely cut from pine. The entire room oozed with the scent of the wood. “Whose house is this?”

“It’s ours,” replied Kris in a sharp tone. “Where the hell do you think I’ve been for the last month?”

Ever flinched at his tone. She had suspicions that were leading her to believe that he was going to someone else for sex. Obviously, she had been completely wrong. Now he was really angry with her, and she deserved it.

Kris growled and rolled his eyes to the ceiling. “I’m sorry. I know that you’ve been sleeping a lot and you have every right to be cranky. I have no right to return the emotion. It’s our house. Liam or I have been here on and off to oversee the construction since the plans were drawn up. We wanted everything perfect for you so you would be happy here.”

“So you do have plans to sell my house and have us move here.” Ever was trying to restrain the anger brewing in her mind. She kept her comment on the side of logic. “Isn’t this kind of far from Mick’s practice?”

“Yeah, that’s why Mick chose to stay at your house.”

Her shoulders sagged as she stared at him. “Has Mick been excluded? What happened to ‘family always stays together’?”

Kris leaned over and pulled her into the center of the bed. He sat down opposite her, crossing his legs to look at her. Liam did the same on her other side, each man taking one of her hands. Kris leaned and tugged up her very tight shirt and kissed her stomach. “Ever, we love you. All three of us love you. Mick is the moneyman and he is handling things back at home. The eventual plan is to sell his practice there and open one here. Right now, the only healer on this entire estate is Renta, and she received hands-on training from her mother. Mick is far more skilled.”
