His eyes went wolf. "There is no old way, Ria."
"Death by Alpha." The words left Ria in a rush. "But none of this makes sense. Why did he want me dead?"
"I don't think the Arizona Alpha wanted you dead. At least, not initially. Between the lone wolf attacks and your attack, there's a bigger problem. We'll take it to the Council."
Ria's stomach twisted at those words. "We could be trusting the wrong people."
"Yes."
Ria took a long, hard look at her mate. "You know what you're doing. I assume you have a plan?"
"We'll draw them in and let them think we're only worried about the drug."
She heard him say "we" and felt a twinge of guilt. He was going alone, but an Alpha's mate should be by his side, even if she was half-human. Ria hated her own cowardice.
Ria walked to the closet where all of her clothes now hung and pulled out her suitcase. Drake smiled in approval when she placed it on the bed next to his duffel.
"I guess I better pack, or we'll miss the flight."
Adrenaline flooded her body. Ria was about to take her place as her Pack's Alpha female and its Alpha's mate.
THE END
None of this would have been possible without the love and support of my very large family, most specifically my husband. My Saturday writing crew, though the faces have changed due to time constraints and distance; K.C. Burn, Jeanan Glazier Davis, Jax Cassidy and Lori Sjoberg. My friends Katie Reus, Qwillia Rain and Latessa Montegomery. To Jaycee DeLorenzo and Caro Carson, I couldn't have done this without your expertise and your guidance.
I was born in Brooklyn New York, raised on the island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. According to my father, I learned to read at three and wouldn't allow him to skip a page of a story. I grew up raiding my mother's stash of books and my Aunt Patsy's extensive library. There, I developed my love of literature, and specifically romance.
Books transported me to different worlds, and encouraged me to learn about different cultures, continents, expanding my horizons. I currently live in Central Florida with my family and our interesting pet pooch Maya.
