“When was Joe supposed to help me do this? While he was on the phone with me, driving through town with his lights and sirens on for everyone to see? Or was it when he was calling his father to tell him to come to the house? Just when exactly was he supposed to help me tie you up and drag you into the house, Roger?”

Roger was looking around frantically, knowing that he was fast losing the support of the pack. Nate could see it in his eyes. He knew he had been found out.

“You administered punishment to my mate, my human mate, knowing that he had done nothing wrong?” Joe growled as he started stalking towards Roger. “He was defending himself and his home from a stranger that had come in uninvited. You knew that those papers were on the porch, just where I said they would be. What reason did you have for entering my home, Roger?”

“Now look, Joe—” Roger said, backing away from him.

“By pack law, I now have the right to seek retribution for crimes against my mate. Is this not so?” Joe asked as he looked around the crowd, receiving nods from most everyone gathered there.

“Roger Drummond, by right as Nate’s mate and by pack law, I—”

“Joseph,” Nate called out, quickly walking over to him and grabbing his arm. “No, he’s not worth it. Everyone knows the truth now. They know that he lied. It’s over now. Let it go, honey.”

“Nate, he whipped you knowing that you hadn’t done anything wrong. How can I just let that go?”

“Because I’m asking you to. This was my fight, not yours. I knew what I was doing when I walked into this circle.”

“Just what were you doing? You could have said something before he started whipping you. Then none of this would have

happened. Did you lose your mind on the way here?” Joe yelled down at Nate.

“No.” Nate laughed. “But I had to show you and everyone here that even though you are my mate, when it comes to pack law, you will not treat me any different than any other pack member. You know everyone was waiting to see what your reaction would be.”

Nate waved his hand around to Joe’s pack members, watching as several of them bent their heads in shame. Yes, they had been waiting see how Joe would handle this situation. Nate was sure they had been shocked when Joe had just stood there as punishment had been administered. Now that they knew the truth, though, maybe they would see Joe’s mating with him as something good.

“Okay, baby, if that’s what you want.”

“That’s what I want,” Nate said as he hugged Joe. He started to turn to walk back to the car when he heard Daniel start to say something.

“While my son and his mate have not chosen to seek retribution from Roger for his misconduct, I do not have the same forgiveness inside of me. I refuse to have someone in the pack that behaves as you have done. Roger Drummond, as alpha of this pack, I banish you. All those in agreement, raise your hand.”

Nate watched with astonishment as nearly every member of the pack who was present raised his or her hand. Daniel nodded, then turned his back on Roger, the rest of the pack joining him. He was confused when Joe carefully turned him around too, facing away from Roger.

“Joe, what’s going on?” he whispered quietly.

“Roger has been banished from the pack. By turning away from him, we are telling him that we no longer recognize him as a member of our pack. He now has the choice to continue to live here or move to another pack."

“What does this do? So he’s not in the pack anymore, so what? If he continues to live here, he can still cause trouble.”

“True, he can. However, he will get no assistance from the pack nor does he have the protection the pack provides anymore. He can’t attend pack functions either. Sure, he can still live here and shop and eat in pack-operated businesses, but no one will give him pack privileges.”

“So, basically, he’s just been kicked out of the club?”

Joe chuckled. “Yeah, baby, Roger has just been kicked out of the club.”

Chapter Nine

Joe looked up at the clock on the wall of his office. He had another thirty minutes before he could leave work and go home to Nate. Joe smiled as he thought about his mate. He still couldn’t believe that Nate had taken ten lashes from a leather whip and
then
argued his defense before asking Joe not to seek retribution from Roger.

He wasn’t sure he was ever going to understand the way Nate’s mind worked. He didn’t seem to hold a grudge against Roger, even after everything he did. He just wanted to move on with his life. He hadn’t even been angry with Roger when he had been in so much pain while the ten lashes on his back were healing. He had just clenched his teeth and not said anything.

Joe knew his behavior had not been quite so gracious. Every time Nate had started to cry out or his body twitched in pain, Joe had wanted to rip Roger’s throat out. It had been a long couple of weeks for him, waiting until Nate was healed enough to get out of bed without hurting. He had only been able to come downstairs to dinner several days ago, the first time since the whipping.

Maryann had made them a special dinner, she and Daniel joining them along with Joe’s siblings and their mates. It had been a regular family get-together at the Nash household, complete with storytelling, laughter, and even a few tears.

Joe couldn’t believe how much he had enjoyed it, especially having a mate by his side for the first time. He was proud of Nate for the way he had handled himself during the whole Roger incident. But he was even more thankful for the way that he had become a part of

Joe’s family. Every member of his family had taken him aside at some point last night to tell him how much they liked Nate and were glad that they had mated.

No one, however, could be as happy about it as Joe was. Nate was everything he could have possibly imagined in a mate and then some.

His strange abilities aside, he was loving, caring, and brought joy to Joe’s life every day.

Nate seemed to have no problem expressing his affection towards Joe, coming up to him several times a day for a kiss or a cuddle. Joe had nearly swallowed his tongue yesterday when Nate had walked downstairs naked. He had walked right into the office, straddled Joe’s lap, and demanded his attention, which Joe had gladly given.

Besides all of the physical loving Nate seemed to give him, he was really making their house into a home. It had taken Joe a while to realize the small touches Nate had added, but one day last week, he had suddenly realized that things had changed. They were small changes, a pillow here, a vase of flowers there, everything clean and organized.

The biggest change was the wonderful smells that welcomed Joe home every evening. Nate seemed to have found his niche in baking.

Nearly every night the scent of fresh-baked bread or a dessert was waiting for Joe.

It was all Joe could do right now to stay at work until it was time for him to clock out. Knowing that Nate was at home waiting for him made him truly understand why his father always seemed so happy to come home every night.

He’d rather go home to cuddle with Nate in front of the fire than do almost anything else, except for tonight. Tonight he planned on taking his little mate out to dinner. It would be their first date out in public since they had been mated. Joe couldn’t wait.

Joe glanced at the clock again…fifteen minutes. Oh, to hell with it, he was leaving now. He’d come into work fifteen minutes earlier tomorrow. It wasn’t like he was getting any work done right now

anyway. His mind was filled with images of Nate, and nothing but Nate.

Grabbing his jacket, he walked out of his office, locking the door behind him. “Charlie? I’m heading home. Remember that Ben is on duty tonight, so don’t call me unless you absolutely have to.”

“Hot date, Sheriff?” Charlie chortled.

“You got it. I’m taking Nate to Darnel’s for dinner tonight. We’re celebrating our anniversary.”

“Anniversary? You haven’t been together long enough to celebrate your anniversary.”

“Yes, we have.” Joe grinned. “We’ve been together for two months today. That’s an anniversary, isn’t it?”

Charlie grinned. “Yeah, I guess it is, Sheriff. I’ll try not to bother you tonight while you’re out on your anniversary date.”

“Thanks, Charlie,” Joe said as he walked out of the sheriff’s office. There was a distinct spring in his step as he walked towards his truck. He was humming by the time he got his truck on the road, heading for home.

He had to keep a close eye on his speedometer most of the drive home so he wouldn’t speed. He couldn’t believe how excited he was from just the idea of a taking Nate out to dinner to celebrate their anniversary. He hoped that Nate liked the ring he had in his pocket.

He had gone to the jeweler and had the ring specially made for Nate. It had gold and silver braided together all the way around. Joe’s name was engraved on the silver, Nate’s on the gold. He had a matching one for himself. A lot of men didn’t like the thought of wearing a ring. He hoped Nate wasn’t one of them.

Joe pulled into the driveway and hopped out of the truck. He made it to the house before the truck door even closed behind him. Opening the kitchen door, he walked in.

“Nate? I’m home, baby.”

Nate stared down at his outfit wondering if he looked okay. Joe hadn’t said where they were going, just that they were going out and he needed to be ready by the time Joe got home. He must have changed ten times already. He still didn’t know if he looked okay. It wasn’t like he had a lot of choices. His dresser was almost empty.

Looking at the tight faded blue jeans and white button-down dress shirt he was wearing, he frowned. This would have been a whole lot easier if Joe had told him where they were going. Then, he would know what to wear.

“Nate? I’m home, baby,” he heard Joe call out from downstairs.

Well, that blows it. He’d have to go like he was. As Nate turned to leave the room, his eyes fell on the pile of clothes on the bed. He shook his head and continued out of the room and down the stairs.

“Oof!” he cried out as he ran right into Joe coming around the corner.

“Well, fancy meeting you here.” Joe chuckled as he wrapped his arms around Nate’s waist, pressing his body back against the wall.

“Hey, Sheriff,” Nate said, wrapping his arms around Joe’s neck.

Standing on his tiptoes, he leaned up to kiss Joe, savoring the flavor of his mate’s tangy taste. As Joe pressed him back against the wall, he could feel Joe’s hard cock was pressing right up against him.

As Joe lifted his head, Nate groaned. “Maybe we could skip going out and just stay here and get naked.”

He watched with fascination as Joe’s smoky gray eyes darkened until they were almost black. The hard bulge in his pants seemed to get even harder. Nate spread his legs more, letting Joe’s body settle between them, causing both men to groan.

“How fast can you get out of these clothes and get your ass bent over the side of the bed?” Joe growled.

Nate’s eyes widened slightly before he turned and ran back up the stairs, unbuttoning his shirt as he ran. By the time he reached the bedroom, he was hopping on one foot, pulling his jeans down his legs.

He was reaching for the lube in the nightstand when Joe came through the door, his hands going to the buttons of his shirt.

“Kneel on the bed, and get yourself ready for me, baby,” Joe said, his eyes never leaving Nate’s naked form.

Nate grabbed the bottle and knelt on the side of the bed, his ass in the air. He quickly applied a good amount of lube to his fingers, then reached around and rubbed it across his eager little hole before pushing in one finger.

“Make sure you’re nice and stretched, baby. This is going to be hard and fast.”

Nate groaned at Joe’s words. He really…really…liked hard and fast. Times like that made it seem like Joe couldn’t get enough of him.

He liked slow too, but hard and fast was just so hot!

Quickly inserting another finger, Nate began stretching himself.

He nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt Joe’s hands begin to gently caress his ass, move slowly down to his sac, then to the hard cock below. His knees started shaking when Joe’s fingers wrapped around his cock, quickly stroking him until he thought he would lose his mind.

“Spread your legs more, Nate,” Joe said.

Nate did as Joe ordered, his eyes closing in ecstasy as Joe began to rub the head of his cock along the crack of his ass. He could feel the hard organ brushing against his fingers as he continued to press them into his ass.

“Spread your cheeks for me.”

Nate pulled his fingers from his ass and grabbed his cheeks, pulling them as far apart as they would go. He could feel Joe’s cock rubbing against him, the leaking head pressing into his hot entrance.

“Joe,” he begged.

“God, you are so fucking beautiful, Nate,” Joe groaned as he pushed into Nate’s tight grasp. “Here I come, baby.”

Nate couldn’t contain his groan as Joe pushed into his ass and bottomed out, his soft, silky sac brushing up against Nate’s. As Joe

began a furious pace thrusting into him, he let go of his ass. He braced one hand on the mattress in front of him. The other moved under his body grasping his cock and stroking it as fast as he could.

Within moments, he was ready to explode. He could feel his orgasm building up quickly, his sac pulling up tight against his body.

Who was he kidding? He had been ready to explode since the moment Joe’s lips had touched his.

“Joe, gonna…” he cried out as he ran his thumb over the small slit in the top of his cock, feeling the pre-cum pooling there.

“Oh yeah, baby,” Joe growled. “I want to feel this tight ass of yours squeeze my cock. Make me come, Nate.”

Just Joe’s words alone had the power to turn Nate into a pile of lust-filled goo. The hard pounding in his ass made it just that much better. Nate cried out, yelling his release for anyone near to hear him.
