The fucker was persistent. He didn’t want Ralf around her. They had been a couple, and he’d seen how cut up she had gotten over their breakup. She’d even run away to the city.

It was your arms she was coming apart in.

You were the one she was screaming in pleasure at.

Climbing off his bike, he made his way into the shop.

“Who are you seeing?” Ralf asked.

“Me,” Knife said.

They had already turned toward him. Knife glanced at Sarah to see her smiling at him.

“Knife,” she said.

Turning his gaze to Ralf, he saw the other man was pissed. “You’re dating this fucker?” Ralf asked.

“Ralf!”

“Don’t talk to her that way,” Knife said.

“So you think you can come into our town and take our women from us? Pipe may be screwing Saint’s sister, but that doesn’t mean you can take from us.”

“That is out of line,” Sarah said.

“Sarah doesn’t belong to you, and she hasn’t belonged to you for a long time. You left her alone. What did you expect? Did you expect her to wait for you?”

“We were not through.”

“Ugh, are you being this stupid on purpose?” Sarah said, drawing both of their attentions to her. “You left me, Ralf. You walked away and behaved like I was the one who made you be different.”

Knife watched as Ralf’s shoulders dropped. “It wasn’t over between us.”

“It was over a long time ago, Ralf.”

Ralf shook his head. “So you’re shacking up with this bastard.”

“You can call me all the names you want, but don’t even think of trying to insult her.”

“She’s mine.”

“No. You were an idiot, and idiots always lose because they don’t realize a good thing until it’s gone.”

“Did you cheat on me?” Ralf asked.

“I’d never do that,” Sarah said.

“You know what, it’s time you left,” Knife said.

“Don’t even think of putting a hand on me.” Ralf held his hand up in warning. “I mean it, stay the fuck away from me.”

Knife held his hand up. He didn’t want to cause a fight. The clubs were getting along, and he wasn’t going to let a little disagreement spoil that. Ralf walked out of the shop, slamming the door closed as he did. The glass shattered, and Sarah cursed.

“Great, just great.” She grabbed her cell phone and started calling someone.

Moving up to the counter, he waited for her to finish.

“Hello, Saint, I know you’re probably super busy, but Ralf has just broken the glass in the door. We now need a new door. Get back in touch. Bye.” She hung up the phone, and sighed. “Hi.”

“Are you mad?”

“No. I’m not mad at you. He came with some lunch, and I didn’t know what to do, and he was being a little persistent. We were an item at one point, but he doesn’t seem to grasp that it’s over. Hopefully, he’ll see that we are so over. How are you?”

“I’m doing great. I see you’re already eating lunch.” He took a seat at the counter and took her hand.

“Yeah.”

“A burger? Don’t they have that special you like?”

“They do. Ralf got me lunch.” She shrugged. “I guess a few years of dating wasn’t enough to let him know what I liked or not. I’m a little offended. We were dating a long time, and he doesn’t even know what I like.”

Knife shrugged. “I guess he wasn’t paying attention.”

“You like that, don’t you?”

“His loss is my gain.” He tugged on her hand, and she leaned across. “I’m not going to be stupid enough to lose you.”

She cupped his cheek, and he claimed her lips. Plunging his tongue into her mouth, he moaned as she met him halfway.

Sarah sighed. “You know exactly what to say and do to make me feel so happy.”

“Now, eat. I know it’s not what you want, but there’s no need to put good food to waste.”

“While I eat, you look,” she said, passing him a newspaper.

He opened it up and looked at a couple of apartments. “Is this all you could find?”

“They’re within my budget. I’m not made of money.”

“How do you feel about us moving in together?” he asked, watching as she paused.

“Moving in together?”

“Yeah.”

“Don’t you think that is a little soon?”

He shook his head. “I don’t think it’s too soon. It’s just the right time, unless you’re not ready.”

“It’s not that. It’s just, erm, we’re new.”

“We’ve been getting to know each other a long time.”

“I get that, but there is no coming back from moving in together. That is a long term thing. I’m not exactly well known for it.” She winced, and he laughed, running his thumb across her bottom lip.

“You’re gorgeous when you’re nervous. How about we give ourselves a tester?”

“A tester?”

“When we find an apartment, I stay with you one day a week for a month, and then we increase it.”

“We can’t do that?”

“We can. I’ve got a place to stay at the clubhouse. What do you have?” he asked.

“I’m staying at the cabin with Elena and Pipe.”

“Exactly. You’ve not got a place to stay. I’ve not even bothered looking for a place to stay because I’ve got a warm bed at night.”

She nodded. “Okay, one day a week, and then we keep on increasing that?”

“Until you’re ready for us to go full time living together.”

Sarah nodded. “I like that.” She took a deep breath, and he saw the blush rushing into her cheeks.

“How long does Elena have for lunch?”

“She has another half hour.”

“Do you have an office?”

“Yes.”

“Would you like me to show you what I can give you with only half an hour of my time?”

She sighed. “Hell yes.”

Chapter Seven

Saint frowned as he disconnected the call and left his office. Sarah rarely called him, yet when she did, it was always for a good reason.

Leaving his office within the clubhouse, he walked out to the main part of the club. Rage, Willy, and Shorty were going over some paperwork.

“Where’s Pea?” he asked.

“In his room. He’s not been down since the party last night,” Rage said.

Leaving the main club, he made his way up toward Pea’s room.

“What is it?” Rage asked.

He didn’t say anything as he charged into Pea’s room. The man was curled up with two of the club whores naked, and sprawled over him.

Kicking the bed, Saint stood back. “Wake up, Pea.”

“Saint? What the fuck?” Pea ran a hand down his face and then started to push the women off him. “What’s going on?”

“Mel, she’s just gone into Dirty Deeds sporting a black eye. Do you know anything about that?”

Pea frowned. “Wait? What the fuck?” he said, again.

Saint repeated the words as Pea moved out of bed, standing up. He was butt ass naked, but Saint was used to seeing his men in nothing.

“I just got a call from Sarah. Mel just went into the shop and she has a black eye. Do you know who is responsible for that?” Saint did his best to stay out of his boys’ love lives, but he didn’t accept women getting abused. He drew the line at physical and sexual violence. The club whores, they were protected, but they knew nothing else was expected of them. They were there to fuck, and in return they were looked after. None of them were hurt in the process.

“I’d never hurt Mel. You guys know me. I do stupid shit all the time, but I never harm what belongs to me. I’m fucking insulted you’d even think I would.”

Saint was aware of several of the brothers behind him.

“Fuck, I was here all night partying, and you know I don’t hurt Mel. I love her.”

The men behind him snorted.

“Shut the fuck up,” Pea said. “I may not be the best husband, and our marriage may not be fucking conventional, but it’s ours, and I do love her.”

Saint believed him. Melissa and Pea’s marriage was their own, and he didn’t delve into that shit.

“Time to leave, ladies,” Pea said, sitting on the edge of the bed, rubbing at his eyes. “Fuck me, I drank too much last night.”

“Who would hurt her?” Saint asked.

“I’m just trying to think.” Pea shook his head. “Councilman Wallace. He’s the only one she has been seeing, I think so.”

Saint watched as Pea reached out to grab some pants, pulling them up his thighs.

“I’m going to go and see her,” Pea said.

“Did she know you were here?” Saint asked.

“Yeah, I tell her every time where I’m going to be.” Pea pulled his jeans up. “I’m going to head on over there. Are you sure Sarah saw correctly?”

“I’m sure. This is Sarah. She wouldn’t call about nothing.”

Minutes passed and they were heading out of the clubhouse toward their bikes. Saint took the lead, riding toward Melissa and Pea’s house.

The ride did little to clear his head. He wanted to know who was hitting one of their women, and how he was going to deal with it.

Pulling onto the drive, he saw her car was already there. Saint left it to Pea to take the lead now, walking into his home.

Rage, Willy, and Shorty had all come, as had he.

Melissa came to the head of the stairs and walked down. At first look, Saint couldn’t see a problem.

“How much fucking muck do you have on your face?” Pea asked.

Saint frowned. He didn’t see her wearing all that much.

“What are you doing here? I thought you had club stuff.” Melissa tried to brush past them, but Pea caught her, pressing her against the wall.

Melissa was a beautiful woman.

Saint saw tears fill her eyes as she looked up at her husband.

“What’s going on, Mel?”

“I don’t understand what the hell is going on here, Pea.”

Pea swiped his finger across her left eye, and there, just peeking from underneath, was the bruise.

“What the fuck, Mel?”

“It’s none of your business.”

She moved away, and Pea followed her.

Rage went to follow, but Saint stopped him. “This is
his
job to find out who did this.”

“I know. I want to know who did. Penny will be pissed. She loves her sister no matter what.”

“Give Pea time. Do you really think he’s going to allow anyone to hurt his woman?” Saint asked.

“You know, I don’t get you. You spend a great deal of time being all silent and shit, and yet you seem to know what everyone is thinking,” Rage said.

“I know everything because I spend my time watching, Rage. It’s why I make a good Prez. I’m always watching.” The one time he hadn’t been watching and his sister ended up falling in love with a man who was totally wrong for her. He’d never take his eye off the ball again.

“I thought you were staying at the club, testing out the new club whores,” Melissa said, grabbing herself a cup from the top cupboard within the kitchen.

Pea was fast losing his patience with his woman. Running a hand down his face, he stared at her back, and wished she would just stop.

“Baby, turn around.”

“Why are you here?”

“I said turn the fuck around!” He lost his temper, and he slammed his hands on either side of her. “I’m not moving until you turn around, and look me in the eye.”

Melissa shook a little.

He’d never lost his temper, not in all of the years he’d been married. Pea did love her. They belonged together, and he loved their marriage. He wouldn’t see her go without, and he wouldn’t see her hurt. Yes, in the beginning he’d wanted to fuck her sister, but there was no chance in hell of that ever happening, and then he’d lost all interest in Penny.

Mel released a sigh and slowly turned around. He stared at her eyes, and the streak that he had made with his finger stood out. The bruise underneath only served to anger him.

Grabbing a paper towel, he dampened it, and moved back into position. “Wipe your eye.”

“Pea?”

“Wipe your damn eye.”

She took the paper from him and licked her lips.

It was the first time he didn’t find anything sexual in her movements. Melissa oozed sex. She was like him. They both liked the adventure, and they both had the need to explore other people.

She started to wipe her face, and he noticed how she took her time, making each movement slow. Whenever she touched her face too hard, she winced. By the time she was finished, he was so damn pissed and angry. The left side of her face was black and blue, and that only came with a fist.

“Who did it?”

“You know who did it.”

“Wallace?”

“Who else?”

“Motherfucker.”

“He wants me to marry him,” Melissa said.

Pea paused. Councilman Wallace was on the books at the club. Melissa slept with him in order to keep him sweet and compliant. Pea had never asked her to. She’d wanted the challenge, and she also liked the fact that his wife couldn’t do a damn thing about it. “He’s already married.”

“And now he wants to marry me.” She sat at the table, and he watched as she started to cry. These were not those fake tears that she tried to use on Penny. The tears were real. “He’s going to divorce his wife, and he wants me to divorce you.”

Pea didn’t like the way her words felt. It was like he’d been kicked in the gut. “What did you say?”

“I laughed and told him there was no chance of that ever happening.” More tears fell down her cheeks. “I’m scared, Pea. He said if I don’t marry him, he’s got enough on you and the club to put you away.” She turned to look at him. “There’s nothing I can do.”

“Well, fuck,” Pea said.

“He hit me when I laughed, and he told me to get things ended with you. He wants me by his side, and if I don’t cooperate with him, the cops will be coming to call.”

Pea nodded. “Okay. Saint!” He called toward his Prez, who entered the room seconds later. He asked Mel to repeat everything she had said to him.

“I don’t know what to do. I didn’t mean for this to happen.” She was all out sobbing, and Pea just couldn’t stand it. Going to her, he knelt down and pulled her against him, trying his best to offer her comfort.

“Don’t, Mel, don’t tear yourself up about this. We can handle this together.” He kissed her head, and only when she had stopped crying did he speak again. “We’re going to go and handle this. Go upstairs, take a long bath, and do not open the door to anyone. I’ll be back to let you know what happened, okay?”

“I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

“Nothing is going to happen to me. I’ll take care of it.” He waited for her to leave before turning to his Prez. “Tell me you have a plan.”

“Councilman Wallace is on our payroll, Pea. I’ve got a plan. Come on.”

Pea followed his Prez outside of the house and made sure it was locked.

They all stood together as Saint pulled his cell phone out.

He was ready to take the fucker on.

“Wallace, hey man, sorry to bother you at such short notice, but I need your advice on a piece of property. I’m tied up all day. Can you swing by the club tonight?”  Saint nodded. “Excellent. See you then.” He hung up the call. “Round the boys up. We’re going to end this shit tonight.”
