quiet, allowing her to find the words she needed at her own speed, only

interrupting with a few questions here and there.

―Regardless, Ernst, my feelings for you haven‘t changed. I love you

as much as I did before. Perhaps more.‖ Her hand rested upon his chest, her

fingers trailing patterns on the gray shirt he wore.

―I love you, too, Kacy. And I don‘t want to live without you. Not an-

ymore.‖

Tilting her head so she could see his face she asked him, ―Would we

be able to live here?‖

Closing his eyes against the powerful wave of emotion that surged

over him, Ernst nodded. ―Anywhere you want, my love. Anywhere you

want.‖ He opened his eyes when he felt her move away. ―I want to ask you—

―Shut up,‖ Kacy said. ―I have a question for you.‖

Ernst sat up and met her gaze. She was still in coveralls and sitting on

her bed. ―Ask away,
liebling
.‖

Her eyes were full of hope and love as she watched him. ―Will you

marry me?‖

One half of his mouth quirked up into a grin. He should have known.

―That‘s supposed to be my question to you.‖

―I know I messed up things between us.‖ She maneuvered her body

to straddle his hips. ―I don‘t want to be without you, either, not anymore. Not

Ich liebe dich,
‖ he

whispered to the woman of his dreams as she snuggled closer to his naked

physique. Resting his lips against her head, he realized he had no anger left

in him. It had disappeared.

Tomorrow, he would get her a ring and move his stuff over here. He

would be with her when she testified against Kirby, which was what she had

ultimately decided to do. He would protect her for the rest of his life. A wry

smile moved slowly across Ernst‘s face. Who knew he would‘ve found his life

outside a bar in Hawaii?

The woman in his arms was everything he desired and more. His

love. Koali Cynemon Travis was, after all…
