—Huntress Reviews

“A terrific contemporary fantasy that makes sorcery and witchcraft seem genuine…The action-packed storyline is fast-paced and provides strong characterization.”

—Midwest Book Reviews

Industrial Magic

“Set in a supernatural but credible underworld of industrial baron sorcerers and psychologically crippled witches…breakneck action is tempered by deep psychological insights, intense sensuality and considerable humor.”

—Publishers Weekly

“Dark, snappy and consistently entertaining…Armstrong never loses the balance between Paige’s sardonic narration, the wonderfully absurd supporting characters and the nicely girlie touches that add a little lightness to the murder and mayhem…Armstrong knows how to keep the reader constantly engaged. There’s never anything that could be described as a dull moment or filler and for nearly 600 pages, that’s quite an achievement. The series, in general, is developing into something more interesting and less predictable with every installment.”

—SF Crow’s Nest

“Armstrong’s world is dangerous and fun, her voice crisp and funny…a solidly engaging novel.”

—Contra Costa Times

“Not to be missed. The action is fantastic and the drama is very intense.”

—Huntress Reviews

“I found a lot to like in the humor and diversity of Armstrong’s world.”

—Denver Post

Industrial Magic
is a book not to be missed. The action is fantastic and drama is very intense. Kelley Armstrong creates such fun characters that really jump off the pages. The book is fast paced with lots of unexpected turns. Like the other books in the series, I wanted more after finishing
Industrial Magic
.”

“One of Armstrong’s strengths is the creation of plausible characters, which is a real bonus in a series based on the premise that there are supernatural creatures walking and working beside us in our contemporary world. Her werewolves, witches, sorcerers, et al. are convincing as people, not just as monsters or super-humans; despite their powers, they have relationship problems, personal insecurities, and family conflicts. Yet there is nothing maudlin about these books. A dry sense of humor runs through all of them and is particularly pronounced in
Industrial Magic
. The female characters are refreshingly strong without becoming bitchy caricatures, and while some of the male characters are stereotypically testosterone-driven (as seen through Paige’s eyes, at least), most are more balanced than that. Armstrong includes a healthy dose of sex and romance as well, without going overboard à la Laurell K. Hamilton. There is a recurring motif of gender conflict in the series, but it is muted in this novel, taking a back seat to the theme of family relationships. None of the supernaturals, it seems, has anything like a normal family life, and those that came closest at one point—Paige and Savannah—are now orphans.
Industial Magic
is a page-turner and is very hard to put down.”
