“He’s thirty-two, same as me. And as to how he’s gotten to be where he is…well, you saw him in action this morning. He dreamed up the idea for the reception without running it past me. It’s what he does. He can walk into a place and see at once what needs to be done.” Luke shrugged. “His dad was well off and gave him a helping hand in the early days, but it didn’t take him long to get established in his own right.”

“Why are you settled in England?”

Luke shrugged. “Not sure, to tell you the truth. Jay said he wanted to see what England had to offer, but I think there’s more to it than that. His mom was English, so he has dual nationality. Perhaps he’s just trying to retrace his roots or something deep and meaningful like that.”

“Perhaps but America had to be a far more lucrative market for a man with his obvious talents.”

“Jay used to stop by regularly to see his mom. When she died a couple of years ago, we kinda gravitated over here and haven’t left. Jay disappears off to London quite regularly, but I don’t know why, which is odd because we don’t have many secrets.” Luke shrugged. “Probably a woman he doesn’t want to share.” Jealousy streaked through Skye. It annoyed her because Jay hadn’t made her any promises, and she’d be a fool if she read too much into his temporary interest in her. “She must be quite something because he doesn’t usually keep his conquests to himself. Nor do they last two years for that matter.”

“You must miss America.”

“We still go home regularly to keep up with our interests there and to check out any of the new venture we’re offered that we like the look of. It’s my job to find out everything I can about the hundreds of applications that come in and recommend whether or not we pursue any of them.” He grinned. “I’m quite good at ferreting out hidden nasties.”

“So I have you to thank for Jay’s interest in The Fox.”

“Actually you don’t. Much as I’d like to take the credit for that, I told Jay that I didn’t think it would be worth our while.” He shrugged. “Sorry, babe, but it’s too small for us.”

“Then why—”

“Beats the hell out of me, but I’m sure glad he took it into his head to give The Fox
a chance.” Luke flashed a sexy smile. “Otherwise we wouldn’t have met you.”

“Thanks.” Skye paused, wondering if she could ask the question that was nagging away at her without it making her sound needy.
Oh, what the hell!
“I can’t figure Jay out,” she said pensively. “Last night—”

She blushed furiously, too embarrassed to finish her sentence. Luke looked down at her, greatly amused by her reaction. “Yes,” he said tauntingly. “What about it?”

“Oh, stop goading me!” She punched his arm. “You know what happened. He’d spent the entire day being remote and unimpressed and then—”

“You saw a completely different side of him?”

“Well, yes.”

“And now you wonder why he’s gone all officious on you again today?” Skye nodded. “Jay
never
mixes business with pleasure. If it’s any consolation, I’ve never known him take up with any of the women we come across during our working days either. With all due modesty, they do tend to throw themselves at us.”

“So you think it’s just circumstances that made him go for me? If that brick hadn’t been hurled through his window none of it would have happened.”

Luke appeared to be having trouble not laughing. “Oh, I think it would have happened sooner rather than later. You’re enough to tempt a saint, Skye, and believe me, Jay and I are no saints.”

She rolled her eyes. “I already know that much.”

“Well, there you are then. Tonight he’ll be the charmingly dictatorial Dom that you met last evening, but this time I’ll be there to join in the fun.” The hunger in his eyes tugged at a level she didn’t seem able to control, and she was suddenly very keen for the evening to come round. “But nothing keeps Jay’s mind off business during working hours, not even that gorgeous body of yours.”

“That’s good,” she said, tossing her head. “At least we understand one another.”

Luke chuckled. “Of course you do.” They headed toward the two acres of paddocks adjoining The Fox. “Did you like what Jay did to you last night?” he asked, his voice taking on a husky edge.

She shot him a look. “What do you think?”

“Tell me, babe. Tell me what he did to you and how it made you feel.”

“This is the working day.”

“I didn’t say that I don’t mix business with pleasure. Now come on, fess up. I want to hear it all.”

“Well, no one’s ever given me orders like that before,” Skye said, deciding to be completely honest. “It was a real turn-on.”

“You’re a natural sub then.” Luke smiled at her. “I told Jay you would be.”

“He started by giving me a massage. Said I was too uptight and needed to relax.”

“Ah, that’s why he asked me to get massage oil.”

“Hmm, probably.”

“Did you like the massage?”

“Yes, he’s very good at it.”

“Jay’s good at everything he does. It can be damned infuriating sometimes.”

“Then he licked me all over.” Skye felt her pussy leak as she relived the moment. “I asked him to do that.”

Luke hoisted a brow. “He let you dictate terms?”

“I think he was…er, breaking me in gently.” She giggled at her clumsy use of words. “He told me not to expect the same thing tonight.”

“Where did he lick you, Skye? Tell me how it felt when his tongue reached your pussy.”

“It was wonderful,” she said, closing her eyes dreamily. “I couldn’t hold back and came right in his mouth.”

“Hmm, I’ll just bet you did.” Luke’s hands were now in his pockets. He appeared to be adjusting the huge bulge in his pants. “Did he punish you for that?”

“He put me across his knee and spanked me.”

“So will I tonight. Count on it.” They were now out of sight of the pub. He pulled her against him and enfolded her in his arms. “Will you let me spank you, sweet Skye?” His lips hovered inches away from hers. Still aroused by memories of the previous night, she was desperate for him to kiss her. She felt cherished and excited because Luke obviously wanted her, too. Whatever happened with The Fox, she’d never forget the few days she’d spent with these two hunks. “Will you let me tan your lovely backside?”

“Yes.”

She whispered the word against his lips. His triumphant smile sent fresh tremors through her as he finally closed the gap between them and kissed her, luring her into participating with confident sweeps of his tongue. She returned the kiss with passion, parting her lips, impatient to at least have his tongue inside her mouth.

His hands drifted to her rear, pulling her closer against him. She could feel his cock, rock solid, pressing against her stomach and was ashamed of the need she felt to have that inside her, too. Had he pushed matters, she’d have probably let him fuck her then and there. The realization astonished her. What had happened to the hard-working, level-headed businesswoman who had little or no time for sex? Since these two Adonises had pitched up in her quiet backwater it appeared to be all she could think about.

Approaching voices caused them to pull apart.

“Shit!” he said, clearly as frustrated as she was.

He guided her back toward the pub, avoiding the gaggle of workmen who’d wandered away from the courtyard on a smoke break.

“We’ll have to carry that on later,” he said, winking at her. “Are you turned on, babe? Is your pussy wet?”

“Hmm, perhaps just a bit.”

“Are you cold?” He glanced at her body, his eyes lingering on every single curve and coming to rest on her breasts.

“No. Why?”

“Your nipples are speaking to me. They’re rock hard.”

Skye blushed. “A bit like you then.”

“Noticed that, did you?” He chuckled. “Wouldn’t be much use to you otherwise, would I now?

“You’re very full of yourself,” she said, laughing.

“Jay won’t be having all the fun tonight. On that you have my guarantee.” They reached the stairs to her loft. “I’ll come and tuck you in if you like,” he said, a wicked glint in his eye.

“Wouldn’t that be against the boss’s orders?”

“There are some occasions when I don’t toe the party line. I choose my battles wisely, but with you all stirred up like you are now, this one’s a no-brainer.”

Skye was still laughing as she climbed the stairs to her loft, waving to a disappointed Luke standing below. “I’ll make it up to you later,” she called down.

“That you will,” he said, drifting off to talk to one of the workmen.

* * * *

“Peter!” Skye clapped a hand over her heart. “You gave me the fright of my life. What are you doing lurking about here?”

Skye stood at the bottom of the same stairs where she left Luke waiting earlier that day. Peter had just materialized from beneath them, where presumably he’d been waiting for her.

“Where have you been all the afternoon?” he asked. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”

“Peter,” she said, sucking in her annoyance. “You shouldn’t be back here. It’s not for the public.”

“Is that how you think of me now?” His gaze darkened. “As nothing more than a member of the public?”

Skye started walking toward the kitchen door. “I don’t have time for this.”

“What’s going on here?”

Skye shrugged. “We’re having a reception.”

“I know. I got an invitation.”

That surprised Skye. His name hadn’t been on the list she and Luke had dealt with. Jay must have sent it because he wanted him there for some reason. “Well then, why ask?”

“You’re going ahead with the Americans?” He grabbed her arm, forcing her to stop walking. “Think about what you’re doing, Skye. Why would they want to invest in this place? They must have an alternative agenda.”

“And you don’t?”

“You know what I want.” The hunger in his eyes unsettled Skye. She’d not seen him quite this intense before. “What I’ve always wanted.”

“Our relationship’s in the past,” she said. “Besides, you have Annie now.”

“Not jealous, are you?”

“Not in the least.” But she now understood why he’d taken up with the all-too-willing Annie. It was a clumsy effort to invoke Skye’s envy. Unfortunately for Peter, it had the opposite effect. She was pleased to see him happy but now felt bad for Annie. “If you’re not serious about Annie then you ought to end the relationship. You’re not being fair to her. She thinks you’re going to buy a house together.”

“Things are seldom fair in matters of the heart,” Peter said bitterly. “Take it from one who knows. Besides, if you’re so concerned for Annie, why don’t
you
tell her why I won’t be walking down the aisle with her anytime soon?”

“Don’t drag me into your affairs.”

“You’ll always be the central part of my affairs, Skye. Nothing changed there. You just don’t realize it yet. But you will when the American bastards do the dirty on you and you come running to me for help.”

“Let go of my arm. You’re hurting me.” Skye pulled out of his grasp, biting her lip to prevent her anger from bubbling over. She tended to speak without thinking when her temper got the better of her, and that would be a grave miscalculation in this situation. “And don’t hold your breath about my needing
any
help from you,” she said tersely.

“You don’t understand how business works. They’ll take advantage of you.”

They would if Skye had any say in the matter, but not in the way Peter meant. “Are you saying I don’t know how to run The Fox?”
She glowered at him. “The financial problems aren’t of my making, as you well know.”

“No, but they’re too deeply entrenched for you to get out from under them. These guys are hard-nosed businessmen. They don’t give something for nothing. You really ought to run their proposals by me before you commit to anything.” The intensity of his gaze caused Skye to shudder. “You know you can rely on me.”

“Thanks, but I don’t need your help.”

“Why are you dressed like that?” He glanced at her scooped-neck black top and skin-tight white jeans. She wore shoes with four-inch heels, had washed her hair and left it loose because Jay had said he liked it that way. Well, what he really liked was to see it spread beneath her all over a pillow, but that would come later. She’d even applied a dab of makeup, something she also never did for a night’s work in the bar. “That’s what you’ve done to attract them, is it?” he sneered. “Sold yourself to them.”

Skye gave up on trying to withhold her temper. “How dare you!” she yelled.

“How much do you charge nowadays? Perhaps I can afford a bit of you, too.”

Before Skye could formulate a response, the kitchen door flew open and Jay stood there glowering.

“If I were you I’d think carefully before you start making those sorts of accusations,” he said in an icy tone.

Peter levelled a malevolent glare at Jay, but Jay simply glared right back at him. The air positively vibrated with aggression, but it was obvious to Skye that there could only ever be one winner in this testosterone-fuelled battle of wills. Sure enough, Peter was the first to drop his eyes.
