Bringing her hands upward she stopped as she glanced at Quinn’s arms. Scratch marks covered the inside of his forearms. “I’m sorry… but what’s happened?”

“You’re changing. Turning.”

“I’m what?” she asked, feeling light-headed. “You can’t mean shifting?”

“No. You’re not going to become a wolf. You’ll reflect my Lycan power coursing in your body. Temporarily. It would be a benefit. You’ll be stronger over time.”

“Why didn’t you tell me? You’re damn right about us needing to talk. When were you planning on telling me about these?” She held out her hands. “And your history with Dark Fae?”

“Darling, you’re the first female I’ve mated. It is not an easy conversation to talk about the dark side of Fae evil while hotly lusting after you. You do realize we’re deep in a mating cycle while dealing with beings who want to torture us. Dark Fae have a way of disrupting the best laid plans.”

“Nice try. Riddle me this. Exactly how long is the mating cycle with a domineering Lycan, darling?”

“A pair must mate twice during the full sun. One more time, during the full moon to be fully bonded with no turning back. Some couples go away. Like a honeymoon.”

“I could become pregnant,” she whispered. “I’m not on any protection. Is this the same as other wolf shifters?”

“You won’t. And yes. The glory of wolf shifters. Not unless we’re fully bonded. And you’ll know the moment that happens. It’s far different than regular sex. I won’t be able to extract myself from you for a good hour.”

“A wolf knot,” she said, feeling her face blossom with heat. She’d heard of this from her work at the club. Painful and the reason why male staff wolves needed time off.

“The very thing.” He lifted her up, easily. Quinn rose, straightening to his full height. The hollows in his face were more pronounced as he gazed over the garden wall. “We’ll have to leave here soon.”

He arranged himself, zipping his jeans, and tunneling his fingers through his just wildly sexed hair. With her panties reinstated, her dress pulled down, and the delicious feel of the ache between her thighs, she longed to open the French doors into the master bedroom in lieu of the garden gate. A dream to stay in bed with Quinn, sipping champagne, and listening to soothing music.

“Don’t fret. This will be over soon.” Quinn proved they were becoming attuned to one another each time he answered her thoughts. He held out his hand, waiting for her, and without touching her, he perceptively plucked her heartstrings. Her body was changing, and now there was a tenderness housed inside her, bolstering her while making her aware the fragile nature of this new emotion. A possible weakness. Not good when it came to mindreading Fae.

Back inside, she picked up the laptop on the way down the hall. Coming into the dining room, she and Quinn met the curious stares of the men. “How far did you have to go?” Tristen said.

Fin sharply cleared his throat, and Tristen peered at her laptop in her hands. “Just open up the accessories and get the web cam program up and running. Turn off the camera but you’ll need to record both of you talking.”

“What should we say?” Sherry asked, glancing at Quinn.

“Doesn’t matter, just keep up a dialogue then copy it and sort it, out of order. We need to end up with at least thirty minutes. So if you can record five, then shuffle it, I’ll be satisfied.”

“And this gibberish is for what reason?” Quinn asked.

“The Fae won’t be able to resist honing in. While outside searching, they would overhear your conversation inside, and I’ll work the sound board, tweaking the pitch low for their range of perception. They’ll think you’re both inside. An easy dupe. The lighting will keep them at bay. Those fuckers will hide around the place in wait for you to exit.”

By that time, she’d hoped they would be long gone.

Quinn picked up a book his cousin had left, pulling her down the hallway into their bedroom. He showed Sherry the title. “
Xenio
. It might be fun.” It was an erotic novel, and he stroked his finger down her arm, hungering to lick the skin that pebbled under his touch. So responsive. She wasn’t like any of the human women he’d slept with and even shifter women had nothing on her. He silently groaned, wanting to fill Sherry again and again until her eyes sparkled, the gold and silver patterns within her irises burst into a mesmerizing design. A shooting star wouldn’t be as bright.

He opened the book, scanning the page, then winged it across the room at the bed. “I’ve a better idea,” he said, hauling her near him. Without asking, he picked Sher up, crossed to the bed and gently flung her down on the mattress before he took a seat next to her. “God, I want you.”

“You’re in a whole lot of trouble if you keep this up. How do you expect to see the Fae coming with you pants down?”

“I’ve got skills when it comes to making love to you and protecting you. I believe it’s called allocating and managing resources. Hence the reason for Fin and Tristen.” He winked at her.

“We’d better start to read.” She opened the laptop and clicked a few times. Seated on the bed, his hardened cock refused to simmer down. Jesus, he’d just fucked her and wanted to do it all over again. She read to him, lightly stroking the skin on his arm.

Gritting his teeth, he rolled his eyes. This book, the words on her breath, and the topaz flames from her glance scalded his lust. He shifted his position, unable to concentrate. All he could think about was her and his need to protect her. And with that need he had to claim her.

“Your turn. Quinn, if I have to keep turning off the recorder, this isn’t going to work. We need a stream in order to shuffle it.”

“You’re too damn sexy for this story. I should have picked up the financial page from the
Times
.”
Liar.
She’d be sexy reading the ingredients from a can of soup.

She stopped about to press the record button and locked her gaze with his. “Is it because you’ve got a hard-on that would make a lead pipe seem soft?”

“You noticed?”

“Um, I’d have to be blind number one. And a vegetable, considering you keep poking me with your erection. Hell, yes I noticed!”

“Being so close to you… your scent has me over the edge.”

“You planning on doing something about it?” Without missing a beat, Sherry trailed her thumb down his length.

“Doll, you’ve got my attention,” he groaned.

“I’m not teasing. It’s my turn. Lay back,” she said, putting aside the laptop.

“You’ll not hear an argument from me, love.”

She came up to him, meeting his gaze and undid the button on his jeans. He released a long held breath, while her eyes appeared to sparkle. Slowly, she lowered his zipper. “I’m in control,” she murmured.

Sherry removed his erection from his pants, freeing him from being constrained, and he growled in total enjoyment. She wrapped her hand around the base of his dick, and took his swollen head into her luscious, hot mouth. He moved her hair, grasping a handful so he could see her giving him head. Squeezing him tight, she worked her mouth up and down, licking him around his crown, until the need to drive himself into her mouth forcefully took over.

“Love, take me deeper into that mouth of yours.”

She glanced up at him, his cock housed within her mouth, and her eyes fluttered. She pumped her head over him, allowing him to go deeper and deeper down her throat. He pushed his hard length into her mouth, tapping the soft back of her throat, fucking her erotically.

He watched her cheeks become flushed, and his balls tightened, his need catapulting, his pulse racing. An electrical jolt rocketed along his taut nerves. He was close, being driven insane by his wild woman lover. Sherry dug her nails into his thighs, her mouth locked around his erection, and he jetted a hot spasm over her tongue. His body shuddered in pleasure, and he half growled, half groaned. Then again, he released, and a wave of goose bumps covered his skin.

For minutes afterward, they lay together, and he realized he’d almost shifted. During sex, there had never been a point to shifting. Before Sher, it was sex. He’d enjoyed it with humans—not a regular thing. Had sex with other shifters as a rule. It was the easiest way to get to the business of coming. But with Sherry, he desired her fully including in Lycan form, but turning into his primal state wasn’t possible unless she was also a wolf. He had to remain in his human form.

Sherry yawned, and then sat up. She licked her lips and an expression of shock spread over her face. “My teeth.”

“What happened?” Did he knock one of her teeth out with his forceful gyrations? He’d lost control, but to have that much force? He stopped his egomaniac ramblings on the size and power of his dick the moment Sherry opened her mouth.

She displayed four long canines. “Another change.”

“Careful,” he said, and smiled into her displeased face. He’d not fully understood the changes that would occur to his spellcaster mate. And without him being able to shift, this was becoming more and more precarious if each time they made love Sherry began to take on more and more Lycan qualities spurring him to mount her. He scratched his fingers along his jaw, observing her glowing eyes. “A few changes. Nothing mind-blowing.”

“Not such a big deal? You do realize we’re talking about my body?” she asked, looking worried. “What exactly am I looking forward to?”

He shrugged. “I can’t provide you with a rundown on what will occur moment by moment. I’m not versed in female issues.”

“Oh, how very manly of you.”

He held up his hands. “Hey, it’s not that I don’t care. I zoned out whenever this topic of conversation came up with family and friends. Not exactly what every guy is looking forward to hearing. What goes on with women is… mysterious.”

“Do you know how babies are born?” she asked, as though he were a complete moron.

“Yes.” He answered seriously. “The stork brings them.”

She pushed up, hovering over him, flames all but leaping from her fiery eyes. “I bet that you barely know much more. Jeez. Even Lycans. It must be some male chromosome thing. Species aside.”

Quinn pulled her across his chest. “I know enough. You’re my mate. The rest is detail.”

Her sudden anger flared a need in him to bring her back to her rightful position. By his side. He’d grabbed her so swiftly, he’d not realized he held onto her tightly. Possibly bruising her flesh. “Sorry. I think there’s a few things we’ll have to come to terms with. I’m more than willing to try. You?”

Stubbornly, she inhaled and jerked her chin. “Fine. But if I become covered with fur, I won’t be happy. I seriously doubt laser hair removal centers can deal with this amount of growth.”

She stroked up his arm. He nodded. “Dammit. We both need to get a handle on what this means.” His arms were covered in dark wolf fur, a sign he was on the verge of shifting and one that normally he controlled with little thought. Until now.

“You’re beautiful as a Midnight Lycan,” she murmured. “The other day, the way you appeared so powerful. Majestic.”

“Kiss me,” he said, desperately desiring to connect with her softly. She was his, almost. And each time they made love, his yearning skyrocketed. Sherry was becoming his own personal drug of choice, bathing his bloodstream with an unfamiliar jagged need. He brushed the hair away from her face, gazing into her steady stream of golden fire. “I’m falling fast,” he murmured.

With the recording completed, they returned to the kitchen where Tristen and Fin sat fiddling with wire, a soldering gun, and several bottles filled with paper, buckshot, and the blue power in a chamber at the top. Sherry came up next to Fin, and Quinn’s wolf senses rifled. She removed her dagger from her bag and cleaned the edge. As she began rolling up her blade, she smiled down at Fin. “A tool.”

“Cool,” Fin said.

“It comes in handy,” Sherry replied, tucking the blade into her bag.

“I bet,” Tristen retorted dryly. “Like a magical sledgehammer.”

Quinn withheld the growl that filled his throat. He knew that Fin and Tristen were pack all the way. But Sherry was right. He and she were both experiencing changes and his came in loud and clear. Every sudden movement, brought him closer to shifting and standing his ground around his soon-to-be mate. He’d always been laid back, and a bit of a jackass in his refusal to get hot and bothered over some babe.
