“Really and what don’t I know,” He replied leaning forward. Placing the blank paged book back on the shelf, I turned towards him.

“I’m half demon.” As I spoke his smirked turned into a worried frown.

“How is that possible?” He whispered.

“My mother was a Demon, well she wasn’t at first but by the time I was conceived she was. It’s a long and very messed up story, but conclusion is, I’m half angel and half demon but full on witch.” I babbled, totally un aware why I have told my life story to a demon.

“So your half and half?”

“I suppose so yes.”

“Well at least we know why Lorias wants you.” Logan coughed. I’m guessing the dust was getting to him to.

“What? What does he want with me?” I asked not really wanting to know the answer. I really didn’t want another thing on my mind, well not until this week was over.

“Do you read nothing?” He mocked. Standing up he took the two steps that were keeping us apart.

“You’re the key.”

“I’m what now?” I stuttered. Raising his left eyebrow, he made his way down the leaf covered aisle and through the knocked down door.

“The Key.” He shouted from outside.

I am so confused. One thing I know for sure is that I need to show Alex and the others this box. I also need to sow them the diamond, which I should really have told them about ages ago. Following Logan out of the broken down church, I stopped at the entrance. The wind picked up as I pulled Logan’s jacket tighter around my body. I picked up the scent of Calvin Klein. It filled my head as the wind swept past me. Poppy really was good with her scents, putting my mind back on reality. I searched the graveyard for him.

“One body with the mind of two,” He muttered appearing from the side of the building. Wait that’s what it says on the Diamond.  This offering I give to you, one body with the mind of two.

“Where did you hear that?” I asked tucking my hands in his jacket pocket. The cold air was making my hands freeze.

“You look so hot in that,” He smiled biting his lip as he leaned against a head stone.

“Back on topic. Where did you hear that?” I asked trying to hide my own smile that was forming after his compliment.

“What… Oh yeah I read it in a book at home. It’s written on a diamond metal key. It fits in the slot in that box inside. Then it’s supposed to lead you to the Devils gate,” He explained running his hand through his hair.

So I have the key to getting to the devils gate, that again is going to cut down this week.

“Why are you telling me this Logan? You’re a demon which means we are sworn enemies. Surely you want to open the devils gate. So what I don’t understand, is why you are telling me this because you do know I’m going to stop the person who tries to open it”

“Wow you stereotype” he chuckled.

“Excuse me”

“Come on, you of all people prove that just because you’re told you are one thing, doesn’t mean you are.” Looking at him blankly, he laughed as I headed towards him.

“Care to explain.” I asked sitting on the floor in front of him and leaning against a headstone. Checking before that it wasn’t actually on a grave.

“Look. Just because, I’m of demon blood, doesn’t mean I want to kill everyone in the world, which opening this gate will do…”

“Let me guess. You like to live in a world filled with rainbows and butterflies.” I mocked interrupting him.

“Your cute, but no. That would be my worst nightmare.” He shuddered at the thought.

“So you don’t want the gate to be open then?” I asked slightly confused.

“No,  it would be anarchy amongst my people,” He sighed. Glancing at his watch, he leapt up making me jump.

“I got to go I have a meeting. I’ll talk to you later maybe.” Winking he headed towards the portal, before I could argue or even give him back his jacket. Folding my arms and hugging myself, I trudged through the piles of leaves on the floor. With on last glance at the broken down church, I stepped back into the cornfield on my way home.

Chapter thirteen

Dancing rainbows covered my bedroom, as the sun hit the water stone. The sound of crashing waves filled ever inch of my room.  The smell of the sea filled my nose, and the salty sea taste tickled my taste buds.  Picking up the palm size crystal in my hand, I turned it around and inspected the three tiny wavy lines carved into the face of it.  Pulling the diamond key from my bag, I placed it on the floor in front of where I was laying. The crystal in my hand began to glow, filling the room with a light blue light. I’m sure that has never happened before. Holding the crystal closer to the key, it glowed brighter and brighter the closer it came to the key. Placing the crystal next to the key, it shone brighter than any light I’d seen. Shielding my eyes I knocked the crystal with my hand across the carpet, far away from the diamond.

“Well that was different,” Alex whispered from the bedroom door.

“Oh hey Alex,” I greeted lifting my stomach off the floor and slowly standing up.

“I wonder if mine does that.” She questioned taking her’s from its bag and placing it next to the key. The room instantly changed from cool and calm to hot and fiery.  Crossing the room to pick the water crystal up, a blinding red light beamed from the middle of the room.

“What about both of them?” She asked turning towards me and pulling her crystal away, to calm the red glow down to a small flicker. Sitting down next to Alex, we both began to push our crystals slowly towards the key. Each crystal connected to one side of the diamond. As they let out a blinding purple light which shook the room, Attaching themselves to the key it levitated. Moving higher and higher towards the ceiling till it was at our eye level.

“Whoa.” We both cried out, jumping up away from the glowing crystals.

“That is awesome!” Alex gasped stretching her arm out ready to touch it.

“Alex don’t be stupid, you don’t know what could happen!” I exclaimed pulling her arm away before it was zapped by god knows what.

“What’s the worst that could happen?”

“Do you seriously want me to answer that,” I replied pulling her away at her attempt to touch the flying key again.

“Come on. If I get zapped then it’s my own fault, Please let me touch it” She pleaded. Sighing I gestured for her to go on but if she gets hurt I am not being held responsible.

Edging closer she held out her right arm as far as she could. Taking two steps closer, her fingers barely touched the metal before it began to drag Alex into its metal case.

“ALEX!” I yelled pulling her from the key.  It fell to the floor, separating from the crystals as they flew across the room.

“See! This is why you always listen to me!” I shrieked rubbing my temples. Rolling her eyes she picked up the fire stone and placed it in its bag. Placing the water stone back into its box, the room fell silent and felt bare without the sounds of a crackling fire and crashing waves.

“You still haven’t given that back?” She asked, picking up Logan’s jacket from my dressing table.

“I haven’t seen him since last weekend,” I replied “and I can’t exactly orb over to Malum and give it back to him can I.”

Malum the land of all evil, the realm opposite to our own is where Logan lives. There is no way I’m going to risk my death to return his jacket.

“Fair enough. Or you could call him and ask him to meet up with you.” She smirked, perching on the corner of the dressing table.

“I think I’ll pass thanks.”

“So what’s the deal with you and this guy?” She asked pulling out the chair at the side of her and sitting on it backwards. Following her lead, I sat down on the ottoman at the bottom of my bed. Biting my bottom lip I couldn’t think of what to say to her. I had no idea myself. We aren’t exactly friends, but I wouldn’t say we were enemies, not anymore.

“Your guess is as good as mine Al” I muttered chewing on my thumb nail.

“Well my guess is that you two have a lot of romantic times alone..”

“Alex, graveyards don’t scream romantic and anyway there is no romantic link between me and Logan. Trust me. He’s the prince of all evil, and I’m the princess of all good. That my friend is literally the opposite of each other.” I explained continuing to chew my thumb nail.

“Opposites attract Elle…”

“Seriously Alex” taking my thumb nail from my mouth, I stared at her.

“Ok fine. I’ll let it go, but I’m telling you my spidery senses are tingling and telling me there’s something there.” She protested playing with her hair. She continued to smirk at me.

“Well did you spidery senses tell you to touch the floating diamond? That didn’t go so well did it?” Smirking back at her there was a knock at the door.

“Come in!” I called.

Josh opened the door with a big smile on his face and walked over to sit next to me. Glancing at Alex we both shrugged and turned to Josh.

“And the reason for the big grin is?” I asked shifting my body to face him properly.  His dimples were practically being swallowed by his cheeks, he was smiling so much.

“I just scored a date with none other than Megan Cairns” He grinned.

“No way! She would never go for you,” Alex protested raising her eyebrow.

“That my naïve little sister is where you are wrong. I was leaving my martial arts training with Leo, and there she was. Standing there in the corridor, looking at one of those old pictures, she must of saw in my mind that I was checking her out. So she asked me out.” He beamed running his hand through his curly hair.

How in the world did Josh get a girl like Megan to ask him out? This girl was the Paris Hilton of the magical world. With her thin waist and her humongous boobs, she had me being jealous of her as soon as she entered a room.

“I heard she was dating Kian Price,” I interjected trying not to burst the ego bubble that he had going on.

“Ah Kian Price now he is a babe!” Alex sighed pretending to swoon off her chair. She wasn’t wrong there. Kian Price could put a super model to shame. He was that gorgeous with his big brown eyes and short blonde hair. The thought of him made me want to swoon for real.

“Didn’t she dump him because he cheated on her with a nymph on the garden committee?”  I asked. Ah nymph’s known for their green fingers and their wandering hands.

“Ah yes! Kate told me that last week during potion training.” Alex muttered.

“Anyway… I have a date with Megan Cairns!” He exclaimed jumping from the ottoman and doing a cheering motion.

“Alrighty then,” I chuckled standing up to push him over, as Alex threw Logan’s jacket at him.

He picked the jacket up from the floor and inspected it before letting out a sigh.  Looking from me to Alex, he threw the jacket onto my bed with a lot more force than needed.

“Not given it back to him yet then,” He mumbled with his hands ruffling his hair.

“No,  not yet.” I smiled trying to diffuse the anger that was boiling under his skin. His hands were turning black as he breathed in shallows breaths.

“Calm down stress head. It’s just a jacket come on, we need to get back home before dinner is ready.” Taking Josh’s hairy hands, she led him to my door.

“Elle did you want to join us for dinner? Seeing as your Dads out?”

“Sure.” Hanging up Logan’s jacket on one of the four posts around my bed, I left my room with Alex and Josh.

                                                          ***

Alex’s mother was an amazing cook. My stomach felt like it was going to explode as I took a seat on their leather sofa. The Edelweiss’s living room was small and filled with dark wooden ornaments. The medieval theme ran through most of their living quarters, creating a warming effect. A roaring fire filled the room with warmth, and the sounds of crackling flames echoed in the room.  Flitting around the open fire, their mother tossed more logs onto the open flame.  Her brunette hair fell loosely around her shoulders, as the kettle began to boil on the stove above the open flame.

“Do you still take your tea the same way Adabelle?” Their mother asked pouring the hot water in a dark blue mug.

“Yes, Thank you Odette” I answered. Receiving the steaming cup, my body warmed as I took a sip of the delicious tea.

“Odette have you seen my blue tie. I’m sure it was around here somewhere.” Appearing in the middle of the small room, their father began to look under the small leather sofa we were sitting on. Ruffling his blonde hair that was exactly the same as Josh’s, he sighed and went to lean against the stone fire.

“Oh hello your highness” He greeted.

“It’s over here Jonah darling.” Wrapping the tie around her husband’s neck she looked at him lovingly. I envied Alex and Josh’s family. It’s not that I don’t love my father and Ethan.  I just envied the nuclear stereotype that they were. Two perfect children and the perfect married couple. They had May also, but she wasn’t exactly perfect.  If it wasn’t so sweet it would be sickening, The Bales family is also a nuclear family, but unlike Alex’s family, they weren’t at all close. The only family time they shared was when Grandma Bale was around, and then there were forced to be together. Giving his wife a peck on the cheek, he ruffled Josh’s hair and kissed Alex on the forehead as he left the room with his briefcase in hand.  As a doctor,  their father had the ability to heal a patient with one single touch. He also had the same ability as Alex. To disappear and reappear wherever he wanted, which I’m guessing makes it easier for him to get to his patients.

“Thank you for that wonderful dinner Odette, it was amazing.” Odette hated it when anyone called her Mrs. Edelweiss, she felt it was to official and made her feel uncomfortable. Being a down to earth woman she wanted everyone to think of her as her own person, rather than a part of a unit. Even though she expressed strongly that she loved being in a unit with her family. She also, in her words wanted to be herself.

“Your very Welcome Adabelle,” She smiled. “How’s your father been lately after the incident that happened on Edith’s grave stone.” She asked taking the kettle from the stove and cooling it on the brick shelf above it.

“He’s ok I guess. I think it affected Ethan a lot though. He hasn’t been his self since he went to see it with my father, but that is understandable”

“Poor boy.” She sighed taking a seat on the small arm chair that was close to the fire.

“Hey Mum. Guess who Josh has a date with tonight.”

“ALEX!” Exclaimed Josh.

“Who? Oh don’t tell me it’s that bimbo from your fathers office. Josh I have told you, she is not good enough for you.” She babbled. Did Odette just call someone a bimbo. That just sounds weird coming from her mouth, she is so awesome.

“No,  Mum, its Megan Cairns the seriously hot… I mean great personality.” He smiled awkwardly as his mother raised her eyebrow at him.

“Isn’t she going out with Kian Price?” She asked. Living in the castle, everybody knew everybody else’s business. It was like living in a small village.

“No, she dumped him. He cheated on her with a nymph.” Alex corrected her. Stretching her legs out she put her feet on the oak table in front of us.

“Hmm I figured he would cheat on her with a nurse more than a gardener. I suppose we can be wrong about these things.” She pondered. Pushing Alex’s feet off the table, she began to tidy away the mugs of tea and made her way towards the kitchen.

“Your mum is so awesome, she’s one of those hip mums” I laughed.

“Hip? Anyway enough of… whatever this is. I’m going to get ready for my date.” Kicking my feet off the table he made his way up the stairs to his room.

“Want to go steer him in the right clothes direction?” Alex beamed sitting up straight.

“I don’t know he’s usually really good at that” I replied sarcastically.

Jumping up from the sofa, we both raced up the stairs. We pushed each other as we tried to beat each other to Josh’s room.

Pushing open his door a strong smell of lynx greeted us, making us both cough uncontrollably. In the corner of the small room, Josh had began doing push ups on the floor in front of the mirror.

“Man your vain.” I coughed, making my way in to his room. The walls were covered In Jackie Chan movie posters, and most of the floor was covered in weights and other workout material. Taking a seat on his single bed, I had to let out a chuckle at the Mr. Men bed sheets he had.

“Is it possible that you can spray yourself with a bit too much lynx body spray?” Covering her mouth with her west life jumper, she made her way to the small wardrobe in the corner of his room.

“So what exactly are you two un funny girls doing in here?” He grunted taking off his top to reveal his amazing six pack. Trying but failing to avert my eyes, I watched as he sprayed himself with another bolt of body spray. He could have been in an advert for lynx, he would defiantly sell at a lot of bottles.

“Elle?” Waving a shirt in my face my daydream was cast aside.

“When you are finished checking out my brother, do you want to help pick out his clothes?”

“Does he have to put on clothes?” I mocked tilting my head to get a better view as Josh was flexing into the mirror.
