Likewise with John’s story, I tried to present the taking of Dachau as sensitively as possible. We’ll never know what actually happened, what went through those soldiers’ minds as they opened fire on the Germans, but I’ve looked at both sides of the story and hope I’ve presented a respectful possible version.

As a side note, lesbians were also rounded up and sent to camps, although not in the same high numbers as homosexual males. They wore the black triangle which signified “Asocial.” This book does not deal with their plight as their history is even more obscure than that of the pink triangles.

I am deeply appreciative to have been given the opportunity to share this piece of history with others through literature. My hope is that it will spark the desire to know more about the men with the pink triangles.
