My day at work is turning out to be really eventful. The owners of Page Six announced they are being purchased by another company and we may or may not have a job at the end of the buyout. To be honest, it doesn’t really bother me that I could lose my job. Maybe it’s Cloud Evan I have been on for these weeks that has me seeing life a little bit differently, but I really enjoy my life right now and I’m ready for an adventure.

Evan told me he wants to take a break from his job and travel and maybe not even come back here. That scared the shit out of me until my heart jumped into Evan Oblivion the second he asked me to go with him. Of
course
I said
yes
.

The control that I’m giving over to him is growing, kind of like when you put money into a savings account and it grows interest.

Every day with Evan is amazing. The love he shows me is amazing, the sex is amazing, the way he tucks my tendrils behind my ear…Everything he does is amazing.

I get scared though because I know all good things must come to an end and that is what has me looking over my shoulder. I’m searching for the prince of darkness that is going to rip it from my life. I know he’s close, but of course everyone will think I’m crazy if I say that out loud.

Losing my sister definitely scarred me, but it keeps me alert to the truth of the world. The truth that happiness doesn’t come without a price. I’m just not sure of the price I will have to pay to keep this happiness that has found me in my darkness.

I walk out of the grocery store with my bags in hand. I plan on making my guy a steak dinner tonight. Poor thing eats every healthy thing I put in front of him without a complaint and I thought it would be nice to surprise him with a little grease. He said this morning that he would be working late so I asked if I could have his security card so that I could wait for him and he nearly put it in my bag himself. I smile at how excited he was to have me in his home waiting for him.

That is definitely a first for me. And I feel overwhelming love in my heart for him. Love I have only just begun to understand. This man is the one for sure, I know that and I’m so happy, truly happy for the first time.

I drop the new towels that I bought for the kitchen onto the stone floor of Evan’s apartment. I bend over picking them up and then throw them in the washing machine that sits in the utility room. I jump when two arms wrap around my waist.

“I fucking love you so much.”

Evan
.

I breathe in his amazing scent.

“I thought you were working late.” I turn, wrapping my own arms around his neck.

“How the hell can I work late knowing you are here waiting for me? Yeah not happening.” His beautiful lips meet mine as the last word leaves them.

“I’m making you dinner. It was
supposed
to be a surprise. I was going to serve it to you naked,” I pout as I tease him.

“Oh, well did I mention I have to leave. I will be back.” He smiles. “Why don’t I just undress you myself?” He sticks his lip out.

“How is a girl going to argue with that?” Yeah I’m not that girl, no arguing here. He can undress me any time he wants.

Evan pours the detergent in the washer as I continue to drop the towels in.

“So you’re lending me your decorating techniques I see.” He smiles.

“Well I can’t very well cook for you in a kitchen without the proper tools now can I?”

“Well in that case let’s go shopping for anything you need so that I can keep you busy right here.” We close the lid to the washer and he picks me up, placing me on top of it.

“Oh I see how you like your women. Barefoot and pregnant. Is that you M.O. Mr. Young?” I laugh through the serious look I’m trying to maintain.

“Hardly, but if your game.” He winks

“Evan I don’t think you will want me if I’m here that much. Honestly I can’t believe you are still putting up with me as it
is
.”

“I was going to ask you this later, but I can’t wait.” His grin is shining so bright I’m almost blinded. “Move in with me.” This is a request not a question.

“Evan Nathan Young, there is no way I can move in with you.” I can’t move in with him can I?

“Angel there is no reason that I can think of why you wouldn’t move in here.”

Well I can.

“Evan we are moving so fast and besides we are together all the time anyway, isn’t that enough for now?” Honestly I’m just scared.

“Abby, we can have this every day; me and you in each other’s arms, eating, having amazing, incredible sex every day. What’s not to love about that idea?”

“I don’t know Evan, I need to think about that later down the road. Later ok? Let’s just enjoy each other in the moment. Ok?” I’m so worried that this is where the prince of darkness is close behind. Maybe Evan won’t wait for me to make the decision he wants me to make.

“Angel don’t worry. It’s silly for me to assume you’re ready. I know you have been through a lot in the past. I love you, it’s ok.” The look on his face says he can hear my thoughts and I take a deep breath with the reassurance he gives. My heart swells. I’m so in love with him. I just wish I had the courage to say the words.

“I need to check the potatoes,” I say.

Evan picks me up and pulls me to him. I wrap my legs around his waist as he walks us into the kitchen.

“Would you like a beer, wine?”

“See, why would I want to be here without you? You think of everything. I’ll take a beer please.”

“I know right? I
am
amazing.” I bat my lashes and laugh.

“Exactly,” he agrees as I hand him a beer.

We sit opposite each other at the kitchen bar. I pour my wine as I watch this beautiful man that wants me to
live
with him. Every second that I’m with him makes my feelings bulge out of the protective seams I have worked so tirelessly to sew together.

I absolutely adore the way he tilts his head, his eyes so blue and a smile so bright. And there are always the dimples of destruction that pop out, taking over my heart. The three-day-old scruff on his face is perfect too. This man is solid freaking perfection and he wants me. I just don’t get it.

I don’t get it
,” I accidently say out loud. Opsie.

“You don’t get what?” he questions as he’s about to take a drink of his beer.

Shit now what am I supposed to say? I don’t want to sound like I’m insecure even though I am. This man can have anyone he wants and he says he wants me and that should be enough right? It’s just not enough for me. I know firsthand it doesn’t matter how much you love and adore someone. They can leave you in a second whether it’s their decision or not; it can and has happened and likely it
will
happen here too.

“I just don’t get how one man can be so beautiful.” I wink.

Dimple destruction. Geez everything he does is hot.

“I’m really an alien underneath all this man,” he teases. “I’m waiting till the perfect time to take you to my spaceship and do dirty things to you.” He throws his head back and laughs. I want to throw my hands over my face. Every second that I am with him, I change my mind about moving in with him and I can’t do that. As much as I want to, I can’t take the chance that we are moving too quickly.

Evan and I enjoy our dinner of steak, asparagus, and a baked potato; against my better judgment. I did enjoy it though. We talk and laugh like we always do. He even throws in a few reasons why I should move in. I roll my eyes, but I have to give it to him. He’s definitely persistent and I know deep down that it’s just a matter of time before I give in.

The bubbles in the bath Evan runs for us are peeking over the side of the tub and while I enjoy relaxing in the warm water, it makes it so much nicer knowing he’s in here with me.

I almost said I love you like twenty-two times tonight during dinner, but the words would not leave my tongue. I know I love him and I know he’s the one. My internal memory is scared and I don’t know how to shut it off.

I splash in the water as I lean against Evan.

“Hand me the shampoo please,” he asks. “I want to wash your hair.” He’s so romantic.

Evan’s phone starts ringing and for the first time ever, he abandons me, and what we are doing, to answer it. Usually he tells me he doesn’t care so I find it strange that he jumped out of the tub to answer it.

As he leaves the bathroom he closes the door behind him, which I also think is weird. “Oh well.” I lay back in the tub as the sound of Laurel plays through the speaker system from my Spotify playlist. I close my eyes as my body melts into the warmth, my voice singing along with the words to
To The Hills
.

I really am curious who he’s talking to, I’m not going to lie. That is just so not like him. My insecurities are showing their teeth now. I hate that about myself. Why can’t I just accept that I am a worthy person?

“Hey angel, sorry about that,” Evan says as he steps into and sits down behind me in the whirlpool tub. “Now, where was I? Oh yeah, I was about to wash your beautiful hair.” I hand him the shampoo and he begins to lather it into my hair.

“Hey I’m thinking, maybe you should go visit your parents for a week or so.” I quickly jerk my head to look over my shoulder.

“Why?” Ok something strange is going on.

He laughs. “I don’t know. I just think it would be good for you to see them.”

“Does this have anything to do with the phone call you abandoned me to get?” Ok I know I’m being a total whiney brat, but I can’t help it.

“Baby that was work. Seriously. I know you miss your mom and I think you should go and have some girl time...”

“That does sound nice. If I went, would you come with me?” My inner sexy girl is jumping up and down.

“I have to go out of town for the next week so I won’t be able to go with you. I’m sorry.” He kisses my cheek as he begins to rinse my hair with the sprayer.

“Is that why you want me to go?” I’m a big girl Evan, I want to demand.

“Well I’m not saying that I don’t get worried about you when I’m away, but that’s my job. Protecting and loving you is all I want to do.” His voice is so hypnotic I swear he can get me to do anything he wants with that voice.

“Well, I guess if you’re not going to be here I may as well.”

“Good, now come here.” He turns me around on top of his length.

“Ah,” I say as I slide on top of him.

“So perfect. Do you have any idea how fucking perfect this is?”

“Mhmmm,” I agree.

Our bodies move in perfect rhythm as he pushes my body down in the perfect way that has every nerve on high alert. My body seizes within itself ready to implode.

“It’s amazing Evan.” I sit up in his lap, my full breasts heavy. Evan’s hands leave my waist to take them into his hands, squeezing just the right amount making me quiver above him.

My body is taking all of him now. I reach forward, grabbing his hair into my hands. “I’m going to come all over you.” My dirty, sexy girl has fully been unleashed and the Evil Evan grin is in full force now.

He grabs me, pulling me to his chest, holding me as tight as he can. His touch, his hold is all I want. I need it as my body unleashes the orgasm around his hardness. He follows with his own pleasurable cry as my name rolls off his tongue.

He holds me in his arms, lightly tracing circles on my back as we catch our breath.

“Abby, I want you to know. I have never felt this way and I never will again. Me and you forever.” And with that I’m fully, unconditionally, irrevocably in love with this man.

Chapter Thirteen

Abby

“Really? No cell service? Being in the mountains seems like it would bring me closer to the damn satellite.”

My mom laughs at me. “You kids are obsessed with your electronic devices, I swear.” She sways in the porch swing.

I give up, for just a minute anyway. I need to talk to Evan. I am literally having withdrawals from his perfection, his touch, his kisses, his everything. I even miss those damn dimples that can manipulate me into anything.

“Abby, you should really learn how to be in the moment. Who is it that you want to talk to so badly.” She’s prying, but she knows who I want to talk to, I haven’t stopped talking about him for the two days I have been here or for the last four weeks before that when we would talk over the phone.
