Authors: Sarah Prineas
Loads of thanks to this novel's first readers: Greg van Eekhout, Jenn Reese, Ingrid Law, Robin LaFevers, Deb Coates, Lisa Bradley, and Dorothy Winsor. Wow, there are a lot of you.
To my genius editor, Antonia Markiet, and her editorial assistant, Abbe Goldberg. And the always-outstanding publishing team at HarperCollins Children's: publisher Susan Katz, editor-in-chief Kate Jackson, senior production editor Kathryn Silsand, senior art director Amy Ryan, senior designer Tom Forget, and production manager Esilda Kerr.
To my agent, Caitlin Blasdell, of the Liza Dawson Associates literary agency.
To readers Edie Parsons, for getting Benet together with Captain Kerrn, Toby Barnes, for the extra bacon, and Tasha Kazanjian and Nancy Fink.
To my mom for the eggplant surprise.
Ingrid, we have to try again for lunch!
And thanks to all my dear families, especially my mom and dad and the memory of my dear old Sparks-like grandma, Anne Hudson Hankins.
SARAH PRINEAS
lives in the midst of the corn in rural Iowa and can usually be found writing fantasy novels on a stealthy silver MacBook Air called Dash. Prineas's Magic Thief series introduced readers to the irascible wizard Nevery and his gutterboy apprentice, Connwaer. Sarah holds a PhD in English literature and recently taught honors seminars on fantasy and science fiction literature at the University of Iowa. She has an amazing dragon action-figure collection and occasionally bakes biscuits (although she says hers never seem to turn out as tasty as Benet's do in
The Magic Thief
). She is also the author of
Winterling, Summerkin
, and
Moonkind
.
Sarah is married to John Prineas, a physics professor, which comes in handy when she's writing about magic. They are the parents of Maud and Theo. You can visit Sarah online at www.sarah-prineas.com.
